Nice people (staff) and nice hotel. Friendly design, classic with comfortable beds, good water pressure and efficient climate - control. Ocean views are nice and with great 180 degrees perspective. Excellent Barber Saloon at the lobby level with very professional staff (especially RASHAN). Reception people are helpful, pleasant, and accommodating. Best regards to Manju, who warmly and professionally welcomed me to the hotel upon my check-in.

The hotel looks opulent on the ground floor. The pool, gym and breakfast are top notch. The food in the Indian restaurant was bland and the room was a bit dirty on check-in, especially the bathroom floor. Rooms are a bit shabby but come with plenty of free water.

Taj Samundra was a decent experience for us, though the rooms are old-school and you can see wood worn off in some places, the grandeur of the property over shadows everything. The buffet spread was great but service a bit chaotic. We do want to mention a shout out to Joseph at the gym, Bhatia for room service, Ms Dinushah at check-in and Ms Tathsarani at check-out. I do have to mention the rates we booked at were inclusive of all taxes as mentioned by expedia at the time of booking but when we got the property, it was easily 35 USD more per night including tax. Expedia needs to be clear about this so we can choose the best price for us.

Great property and wonderful folk at the TAJ. Always willing to help and ensure a very comfortable stay for its guest. Though the hotel is 40 years plus, it’s well maintained, oven view and beautiful gardens .

Not sure how this hotel is so highly rated on trip advisor. Room wasn't ready when I arrived. Communal/lobby areas are very nice but rooms are looking tired. Number of occasions where my room was cleaned but not topped up with amenities, such as bottled water. Service is very poor, there are loads of staff but no one seems to help. Difficult to get any kind of drinks with dinner other than water. Lobby bar was out of stock of basically everything. Wi-Fi throughout the hotel is really slow (2mb max speed). Food in the buffet is good but same dishes are served each night. Had some laundry done and all my clothes were shrunk - tried to explain it to staff but they either did not understand/pretended they did not understand.

Hotellet är slitet och behöver en renovering. Personalen är inte trevliga och är helt förvirrade. Det tog personalen ca 6 timmar innan vi kunde få våra bagage. Tillslut fick vi själva gå ner till lobbyn och hämta dessa. Det finns bättre hotell i Colombo för priset som fokuserar på att ge god service och som har fina rum. Vi ångrade att vi checkade in på detta hotell.

Ocean view Deluxe room on top floor smells musty, bugs flying in the room. Bathroom and toilet have glass door so there is no privacy if two people are traveling together. We asked our room to be changed, manager tried his best to delay changing the room, made us wait 4 hours. Eventually we were changed to a city view Jr suite room, which fixed some of the above mentioned issues. Even this room is run down, bathroom door is crooked & barely closes, mini bar is not stocked, no after hour coffee in the business center, strong smoke smell is the hallway when we booked non-smoking room. Being an Indian American, I wanted this hotel to be good (since it's an Indian luxury hotel chain). Sadly It's an overpriced, run down hotel and no attention is being paid to hotel maintenance and customer comfort. I wouldn't recommend this hotel at this price point.

when walking to our room we can smell smoking, when asked we were told that room with balcony is a smoking room, But we can see someone sitting inside the room and smoking, also one gentleman smoking on the corridor. Bath tub is moldy. We paid for room with ocean facing but we were given a room where there is a building blocking the view, There are not chest of drawers in the room. We liked the breakfast and dinner buffet very much. Staff is very nice

Stay at the hotel was comfortable, clean, and carefree. The staff service was great, the food options were amazing. For someone looking to understand how far the oceanfront rooms were from the ocean, please know that there were other buildings and a road in front; the pictures on the hotel website are taken from a different angle.

This hotel is not what it used to be. One of the rooms was not available at 6:30 pm and was given a lower price room with out any monies back. The other room was small and not what I expected. I've stayed at this hotel before, but I will not return.

We love staying at the Taj. Great hotel and staff. They are genuinely concerned for the guest comfort and safety. The staff is proficient in what they do, great management and the food at the Taj is fantastic. We have completed 12 days living at the Taj.

we had an amazing time in Taj Samudra Colombo. Staff was very courteous and generous. Special thanks to Ms. Berni for making special arrangements to make our last day in Srilanka even more special and memorable. As always Taj exceeds our expectations of excellence. We stayed for two nights. ALL of the staff are BRILLIANT and looked after us really well. The room was spacious and the rain-shower incredible… probably the best I’ve had. The on-site Indian restaurant was excellent as was breakfast. Easy to walk around the area and just 5 minutes to Park Street for loads of good dining options. Wholeheartedly recommend Taj Samudra. Thank you.

Excellent short break with my wife . As a regular to Taj properties in India , there is a standard of quality of service and property which is maintained across properties how ever old that property may be . Loved their Japanese restaurant and Navarathna was serving excellent Indian food . Overall very satisfying . 👍

Taj Samudra had incredible hospitality and really elevated rooms. The fact they have reusable bottle program shows that they care for the environment and want to be sustainable. Also it’s right across the water, so you can do a quick walk by the sea any time. The buffet food was good, not exceptional especially the vegetarian options were mediocre at best. Although the stand alone restaurant Navratna had smashing food.
