The rooms are large and clean, and the housekeeping staff is amazing at making sure everything is stocked. Giovanni and Jesus were the perfect entertainment for the week, always engaging and friendly. The food is decent at the buffets, but always delicious in the restaurants. Due to a hurricane, the beach is not as large as it once was, but the water is still clear and optimal for snorkeling.

We would have had a perfect week if it hadn’t been for the air conditioning issues. Talking to MANY people there, everyone seemed to be having problems. It just couldn’t keep up with the demand. Hint keep your drapes closed to help keep the heat out. We left a note for housekeeping and it helped some. Beds were comfortable, and the food was average, but we never went hungry. Was very disappointed in the adult only pool. They never skimmed it and it was very dirty. The main pool was nice. We never had an issue finding a chair by the pool or on the beach. It would be nice if there were a few more umbrellas though. Overall, we had a nice relaxing time.

Actual beach, not a man made beach like in the city. Nothing within easy walking distance, must cab/rent to go to city. Dive shop on site is helpful. Many tour companies will pick up from hotel or dock. Facilities are nice and clean. Frequent power outage, lost water twice.

Occidental Cozumel is a beautiful resort with lush vegetation, layed back atmosphere and friendly staff. The food is good and the restaurant on the ocean shore is my favorite. The rooms are nice and comfortable. Unfortunately, if no actions will be taken for protecting the erosion, the pool and restaurant walls will crumble into the sea at the first severe storm. Dropping some boulders and rocks at the foot of the wall will brake the waves and protect from further erosion.

I enjoyed my stay here overall. Its a smaller resort with not a lot going on so if relaxation is what you are looking for this place is it. I did not use the spa or go on any excursions this trip. The beach is nice, however the pictures are not updated from erosion due to mother nature. The main pool was large with a smaller pool attached for little kids.

Great place, love the location! The food was good, and the snorkeling on the beach at the resort was excellent this time, I'm sure it is dependant on weather conditions and events. Close to other snorkeling locations, and lots of excursions available. We still love the beach, they have done a great job trying to keep up with the beach erosion (which is not their fault!!).

The overall property was nice but limited beach area. Pictures deceiving online. Not much area for sitting on the grounds other than at the pools or beach and limited areas to walk/run(one route from front desk to beach). The adult pool, bar, bartender were fabulous! Room was clean and updated. The staff was friendly, helpful and hardworking.

The location, main property, and staff are excellent. The pool is located in a nice location; however, it is in poor condition and hurricane damage has not been repaired. The food is average and difficult to get reservations for the à la carte restaurants. Overall, it was a great vacation and I would stay there again without hesitation. I just hope they do some work on that pool and the hurricane damage to the pool deck.

The staff was very friendly. The rooms however smelt like mildew and we’re super humid. The blankets and pillows and even the floor constantly had a wet feel to them. I got sick my first night and was sneezing and coughing like crazy all week long. My husband looked in the air vent and saw mold inside which explains the sickness and the smell. The food was not very good and very bland, by my 2nd day there I was getting sick from the food.

Property was dated and our room needed some minor repairs, two lights in the bathroom didn’t work, phone didn’t work, etc. but nothing that affected our stay. Our room and the resort were very clean! Staff is very friendly and welcoming!

It's been 7 years since I went back to this resort The last time I went, it was great but a lot has changed For instance, when we checked in, we all got a bracelet from the resort so they knew that you were a guest there It was a black string with a little metal plate that said the resort's name and a piece of plastic holding it together, that could easily come off and get lost. That would be another charge, especially for guests with children. Then we got to our room The room was hot and there was no fridge They had all the beverages on top of the dresser, and when we visited previous times, they had them in the fridge cold. Then we made our way to the lunch buffet The food that was supposed to be cold was hot and there were flies all around the food after seeing that we didn't have much of an appetite. The pools were dirty; guests who would go swimming on the beach would come in the pool with sand all over them to rinse off and would take in their shoes as well since there were no showers to wash off the sand, which did not help the situation with the pool. When we checked in, they gave us a card for towels but failed to let us know that towels were given between 8 and 5, so we did not have any towels that first day. On the second day, we decided to go into town for some souvenirs, needed to get a taxi and exchange some American money for some Mexican money The lady in the reception area wanted us to pay more for Mexican money. Overall, I would think twice about coming here

Plumbing issues in my room. From the Shower to the toilet. I contacted maintenance several time. No one cared. Went to the front desk for assistance but to no avail. My sheets and bedding were wet. Also the AC did not work.

I did not like anything about this property. Either there was no water or no water pressure, the adult pool was dirty, the bathtub and sheets were dirty,damp and musty odor that came home in the suitcases. No elevators. Had to switch my room when I said I wouldn’t walk three flights of stairs. Several people I talked to got sick after eating at the buffet, barely any beach, air conditioner had one setting and had to be either off or on to adjust, no one speaks English other than the front desk personnel. The bathtub was so dirty and I didn’t notice when I stepped in it and I fell injuring my shoulder. I have pictures of the sheets and the bathtub. I expect a refund both for the property and my $671 flight.

The property is well-maintained and very lush. Our garden room view was nice and on 2nd floor. No elevators but we are okay with stairs. Our room did not have a balcony, a first for us, but without ocean view we didn't miss it. The AC was a little loud but worked wonderfully and kept us cool during hot/humid season. The food was pretty good but we wished there were more options. Spa is small but we had a great massage. Overall it was fine for a 4 day getaway to relax.

The property is absolutely gorgeous with lush greenery everywhere. Rooms were spacious , clean and very comfortable. Pools were not overly crowded and they had one pool just for adults, which was nice. They have an onsite dive center, though difficult to get to this was the main reason for choosing this resort and the staff at the shop and on the boats were absolutely amazing and so much fun to be with. Tao at the excursion desk was great too. He found us an excursion that included all the activities the group wanted to do with out breaking the bank. The downside to our stay was the customer service of the front desk. They lacked basic customer service skills or simply did not care to even try to make guests happy. When there was a problem they had no desire to provide a solution or resolve the concern and when pushed they had a lack of follow through. Another minor inconvenience was they made it next to impossible to make dinner reservations (don’t even waste your time trying if you have a large party) and they would move were the buffet was without any notice. There beach area was small but that was unavoidable due to the last hurricane. So all in all this resort was a good value for the money and we would likely return but not with a large group.

We ignored the negative reviews of this place and wish we listened. Disappointing. Got eaten alive by mosquitos. They don't tell you the resort is close to a swamp with stagnant water hence all the mozzies. They don't tell you the resort loses water pressure. You can't shower, you can't flush the toilet whenever you want. gift shop gouges on prices. Nothing done with urgency. All they say is "I'm sorry" and care even less. The food and dining options were not great. They have different restaurants and schedules every night: we always had to ask 3 times because we were constantly given the wrong info EVERYDAY!! It got really old. We avoided all of the "specialty" a la carte restaurants if we could after waiting 2 hours for our food the 2nd night. The buffet offering was fair Issue with our 1st room: got moved to another room. Our new room's ceiling leaked water all over my suitcase overnight. By then I just couldn't say anything anymore. We were so over it. The concierge at the front lobby overwhelm and push guests checking in with wanting an on the spot commitment to a slot for 90 minute sales pitch early in the morning and then calls non stop if no one goes. Get the message: don't get pushy when people say no or indicate they are not interested!!! We came to enjoy the resort, not sales pitches at 8am in the morning!!! We'll go back to Cozumel but not to this resort.

The room was spacious and very clean. The staff was friendly. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. The only issues were the boat traffic made the water rough and murky so difficult to snorkel, the beach area is cramped, no elevator and was on the 3rd floor, and the A/C was very loud (but worked well). Overall it was a nice stay.

We stayed at the Occidental for a short gateway. We had 1 room with 2 double beds, non smoking room and was big enough for the 3 of us to share. Bathroom had shower and a tub and overall the room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were always various, rich of fresh and tasty fruits, fresh veggies and a great selection between meat and fish. We had dinner once at the mexican restaurant and to be honest we were expecting a bit more in term of quantity. From the apetizer to the desser overall the food was good but quantities can be improved. The seafood restaurant, in my opinion, was the best. Location and food are really worth it but, if you're planning a romantic dinner or celebrating a special occasion this is the perfect spot, make your reservation on time and enjoy it. The pool area was wonderful even though I prefered enjoying the beach and the wonderful ocean. You can snorkeling from here and it is nice but if you like to see the reef you can book an excursion from the hotel. Cozumel and the Occidental was a discovery, really nice location, not to crowded and noisy, this is what I'm usually looking for.
We stayed at the Occidental for a short gateway. We had 1 room with 2 double beds, non smoking room and was big enough for the 3 of us to share. Bathroom had shower and a tub and overall the room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were always various, rich of fresh and tasty fruits, fresh veggies and a great selection between meat and fish. We had dinner once at the mexican restaurant and to be honest we were expecting a bit more in term of quantity. From the apetizer to the desser overall the food was good but quantities can be improved. The seafood restaurant, in my opinion, was the best. Location and food are really worth it but, if you're planning a romantic dinner or celebrating a special occasion this is the perfect spot, make your reservation on time and enjoy it. The pool area was wonderful even though I prefered enjoying the beach and the wonderful ocean. You can snorkeling from here and it is nice but if you like to see the reef you can book an excursion from the hotel. Actual beach, not a man made beach like in the city. Nothing within easy walking distance, must cab/rent to go to city. Dive shop on site is helpful. Many tour companies will pick up from hotel or dock. Facilities are nice and clean. Frequent power outage, lost water twice.

This was our first time visiting Cozumel. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our stay. At our resort there were several issues, from food quality to electrical outages. AC in our room did not cool, either the thermostat was not working properly or it couldn’t keep up, it stayed around 77 degrees. Very difficult to sleep with the room that hot. Choice of adult beverages were limited. The one thing I can say that was great was the massage at the spa. I believe the massage therapist name was Lucile, she was amazing.

During my stay at Occidental Cozumel, I experienced a blend of pros and cons. On the downside, dining options were limited, primarily consisting of themed buffet menus. We ignored the negative reviews of this place and wish we listened. Disappointing. Got eaten alive by mosquitos. They don't tell you the resort is close to a swamp with stagnant water hence all the mozzies. They don't tell you the resort loses water pressure. You can't shower, you can't flush the toilet whenever you want. gift shop gouges on prices. Nothing done with urgency. All they say is "I'm sorry" and care even less. The food and dining options were not great. They have different restaurants and schedules every night: we always had to ask 3 times because we were constantly given the wrong info EVERYDAY!! It got really old. We avoided all of the "specialty" a la carte restaurants if we could after waiting 2 hours for our food the 2nd night. The buffet offering was fair Issue with our 1st room: got moved to another room. Our new room's ceiling leaked water all over my suitcase overnight. By then I just couldn't say anything anymore. We were so over it. The concierge at the front lobby overwhelm and push guests checking in with wanting an on the spot commitment to a slot for 90 minute sales pitch early in the morning and then calls non stop if no one goes. Get the message: don't get pushy when people say no or indicate they are not interested!!! We came to enjoy the resort, not sales pitches at 8am in the morning!!! We'll go back to Cozumel but not to this resort.

You get 3 restaurant reservations for a 7 night stay and they will not seat you without it even if it is empty. (It was suggested to tip the maître d’ $20 by other guests) The claim of 7 restaurants is very misleading. The restaurants are not all open every night. There is a buffet, Mediterranean (Italian), Mexican, seafood, one restaurant is just for royal level and the pizza place only open 9:30 pm to 1:30 am. So you will eat at he buffet a lot! Dress code at restaurants not enforced at all even though you get the lecture about it. Service at the buffet was just not good. It took forever to get coffee in the morning. No A/C at buffet. At lunch it was too hot to eat. Too many more cons to mention. Needless to say, we won’t be back. Pros: room was comfortable. A/C worked well. Housekeeping was great. Cozumel is gorgeous. The property was clean and the beach access was nice but the food was terrible and staff was iffy. Some were kind but most were not very helpful or warm. We paid extra for an upgraded check in experience. When we got there, they sent us upstairs and the person who was supposed to check us in wasn’t there. So the bartender sent us down to lunch (a 5 min walk to the opposite end of the resort). When we got back to try and check in again, we were told we were in the wrong spot again and had to go halfway back across the resort to a different place for check in. When it was all said and done, I don’t know what was upgraded about our check in experience at all. It was no different than being at the front desk. The food is not good at all. We thought maybe the specialty restaurant would be better and ate there our last night only for my husband to get food poisoning. We definitely do not recommend this place.

Absolutely beautiful resort with fantastic staff. We read reviews regarding difficulties in getting reservations for dinner. We booked the Royal level and I highly recommend this if you have the ability. We had reservations for all 7 nights and ate at all restaurants at least once. The Royal level team was amazing and truly treated us as royalty! That being said the entire resort goes out of their way to make your vacation the best you have experienced. From our welcome from Johnny to our final goodby from Tony we were made to feel like familia! Also had a great experience renting a jeep and cruising Cozumel, the locals were extremely gracious in sharing their home with us. Great experience!

The property and grounds were beautifully managed. Our room was clean and stocked daily with drinks, towels etc. a couple things we were disappointed about was when we arrived to check in we were immediately asked to take a quick tour of the facilities and asked to sign up for a free stay giveaway that was only for Americans. After a long travel day I was not interested but said yes just to get away from the pressure of the consierge due to being exhausted. Also having to book a dinner each day was a hassle as my husband waited in line for 30 minutes one morning and then while we were eating at the reservation restaurant other people were allowed to walk in to eat without a reservation. We paid for the all inclusive option to make meals stress free and this experience with having to reserve a spot daily was stressful. Although our stay wasn’t perfect I’d still recommend this vacation spot to my friends and family due to the easy access to the beach.

We have been to Cozumel many times and enjoy this side of the island specifically for the beautiful water at the beaches as we have tried the neighboring resorts next to Occidental. I noticed Barcelo owns Occidental and we have been to Barcelo in Cabo so we really loved that resort so we thought let’s give this one a try. We were very disappointed with the food choices at the buffet. It appeared like leftovers and the same thing every day. The meat quality of the steaks in the reservation restaurant Olivos was absolutely terrible as it was presented folded over with a ton of fat on the meat. Of course you can find sustainable food at the buffet like pasta but I didn’t spend money for this resort to eat pasta. At least the property is well kept and clean with beautiful scenery. We may not return to Occidental as this was our least favorite all inclusive resort and we have been to 21 different all inclusive resorts.

This resort has a very good beach and plenty of lay out chairs. The food was ok, and at the restaurants where you need a reservation it was very good. The people working there are so friendly and have great customer service. We recommend renting something you can drive around the island and explore the other side for a day or 2.

The grounds are gorgeous and close to places we like to visit such as Punta Sur. I highly reccomend renting a jeep for part of your stay as this property is a bit far from town. The food could use some improvement but I would likely just upgrade to the Royal level.as many frequent guests told us that is the way to go.

Occidental Cozumel is a beautiful resort with lush vegetation, layed back atmosphere and friendly staff. The food is good and the restaurant on the ocean shore is my favorite. The rooms are nice and comfortable. Unfortunately, if no actions will be taken for protecting the erosion, the pool and restaurant walls will crumble into the sea at the first severe storm. Dropping some boulders and rocks at the foot of the wall will brake the waves and protect from further erosion.

BEWARE IF USING OFF_SITE DIVE OPERATORS THAT THEY CHARGE A "PIER FEE". somewhat outrageous as they don't help you get on and off the boat or provide any real "service" Other than that extorsion practice of the dive shop/pier the Staff here is great. Always there to help. Pool atmosphere was fun and inviting. Beach could use some work. Not sure how to reverse the erosion. short walk up to Allegro tells you where all the sand went! Beds were very comfortable and the rooms were spacious enough for two over the span of 8 days. It's a bit of a hike to town. This is good and bad. Good for quiet and relaxing. bad if you want to get a taxi and go for dinner off of property. You can rent a car from the hotel which is nice. The Disco could maybe use some revamping as it was not very lively. Food choices were overall pretty good as well as the drink selections. The landscaping of the property is lovely. Breakfast buffet was great with being able to order fresh prepared eggs. Many of the other buffets were precooked and who knows how long it was sitting out. Be careful eating any veggies uncooked. I made the mistake on last day of eating a salad for lunch and got very, very sick. Other than that, a great experience and would go again but avoiding most of the buffet options unless cooked or knowing when it was prepared.

Great place, love the location! The food was good, and the snorkeling on the beach at the resort was excellent this time, I'm sure it is dependant on weather conditions and events. Close to other snorkeling locations, and lots of excursions available. We still love the beach, they have done a great job trying to keep up with the beach erosion (which is not their fault!!).

We ignored the negative reviews of this place and wish we listened. Disappointing. Got eaten alive by mosquitos. They don't tell you the resort is close to a swamp with stagnant water hence all the mozzies. They don't tell you the resort loses water pressure. You can't shower, you can't flush the toilet whenever you want. gift shop gouges on prices. Nothing done with urgency. All they say is "I'm sorry" and care even less. The food and dining options were not great. They have different restaurants and schedules every night: we always had to ask 3 times because we were constantly given the wrong info EVERYDAY!! It got really old. We avoided all of the "specialty" a la carte restaurants if we could after waiting 2 hours for our food the 2nd night. The buffet offering was fair Issue with our 1st room: got moved to another room. Our new room's ceiling leaked water all over my suitcase overnight. By then I just couldn't say anything anymore. We were so over it. The concierge at the front lobby overwhelm and push guests checking in with wanting an on the spot commitment to a slot for 90 minute sales pitch early in the morning and then calls non stop if no one goes. Get the message: don't get pushy when people say no or indicate they are not interested!!! We came to enjoy the resort, not sales pitches at 8am in the morning!!! We'll go back to Cozumel but not to this resort.

My Husband and I came here for 6 nights and 7 days. It was a beautiful property and we enjoyed our room with a balcony over looking the jungle. We loved seeing all the animals around the resort! Buffett food was mediocre, but the Al la carte Olivios was our favorite. We never got to try the seafood al la carte, but heard many good things about it. Staff was friendly and helpful. We got to Snorkel on the beach when the winds changed and the water cleared up a lot. There was many fish to look at right off the beach! We even saw a HUGE (I swear 5 foot long) barracuda!! There were many chairs to choose from down by the pool/beach, but we never had a chance to sit by the Adult pool because people always claimed those chairs and beds with towels early in the morning. I wish the bars had drink menus to look at and see what to order because we didn't know what to get and didn't know what options we even had. The staff had many different activities planned throughout the day. It was very easy and efficient to get a taxi to go into town. The taxi would arrive within 3 minutes. The grounds area / property was well kept clean and beautiful. We loved all the plants and having the jungle and then the short easy walk to the ocean side of it the resort. Overall a great trip and we loved every day we spent there!

Overall we were disappointed with the resort and our expectations were not high. The quality of the food at the buffets were mediocre at best. We know AI are not known for food and we had that in mind, and still ranked very low. Food at the "seafood" (cannot remember the name) restaurant and in the Royal Level restaurant were good. If you can, it is extremely worth it to upgrade so you can eat at the Royal Level restaurant!! AC in nearly non-existent in the breakfast/dinner buffet area and in the bar/lounge area. The thick vegetation, while pretty, allows for no airflow through the resort so sitting outside the bar/lounge area doesn't provide much relief. I don't want to sit eating breakfast/dinner sweating! Our rooms were "cool", but the humidity levels were astronomical! Our sheets, blankets, clothing were all damp and felt like they came out of the dryer way too soon. Drinks were not good. My margarita tasted like salt water. Hard to find a drink I could finish. The resort was well maintained, and clean. All staff, minus the front desk, were so kind, polite, and friendly! They truly deserve a shout out for a job well done!! Front desk staff was fine, no issues, just not friendly and welcoming. It was easy to get a chair at the main pool by the beach each day. If you came late morning you may not have gotten one with an umbrella, but could find an open one. The mini-fridge in our room was always well stocked each day.

Cons: check-in was not welcoming, it was a lecture about rules. Don’t lose your bracelet, towel or electricity card or it will cost you $. You get 3 restaurant reservations for a 7 night stay and they will not seat you without it even if it is empty. (It was suggested to tip the maître d’ $20 by other guests) The claim of 7 restaurants is very misleading. The restaurants are not all open every night. There is a buffet, Mediterranean (Italian), Mexican, seafood, one restaurant is just for royal level and the pizza place only open 9:30 pm to 1:30 am. So you will eat at he buffet a lot! Dress code at restaurants not enforced at all even though you get the lecture about it. Service at the buffet was just not good. It took forever to get coffee in the morning. No A/C at buffet. At lunch it was too hot to eat. Too many more cons to mention. Needless to say, we won’t be back. Pros: room was comfortable. A/C worked well. Housekeeping was great. Cozumel is gorgeous. Offer more food choices. It was a small selection of food offered several times a week. It got really old after the 3rd night. The Oriental food was the best restaurant and that was the only one with air conditioning which made dining anywhere else very uncomfortable because of the heat and humidity. The cheese on the meat and cheese station was mushy because it was melting because of the heat. Our room had A LOT of small bugs in it. We were told if we had bought into the vacation club we would’ve been upgraded to a room that “ is more better and no bugs”. If you are white, and don’t speak Spanish, learn it because there weren’t many people there that didn’t speak Spanish.

I’ll start by saying we chose this hotel because we stayed next door at allegro years ago and loved the area but not the food at that resort. The reviews for food here at Occidental were mixed but my whole group was happy with the food, the buffet was good and the special restaurants were the best I’ve had at any resort. The staff was friendly, we had no problems having plenty of water available to drink. The beach is smaller but nice, we enjoyed the kayaks available for free. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioning worked great. Our snorkel trip and fishing trip picked us right up at the dock, the chef in the Mexican restaurant cooked our fresh caught Mahi Mahi and it was delicious. Overall I would definitely come back here, I think it was everything you could want for the low price.

DO NOT BOOK here, my fiancé and I both got food poisoning from the buffet on two separate nights. It ruined the rest of our trip. Our trip was in March and they still have not compensated us. Even for the nights that we changed resorts. So many others at the resort also were overcome with food poisoning. Management even admitted that they had someone come over from Cancun to test the food because so many people were getting sick.

I enjoyed breakfast and the staff Julio or I’m sorry it might’ve been Juan was amazing. Quickly recognized me no exactly my preferences he would immediately bring me coffee and a champagne cocktail every morning right on time. He was very attentive and kind to me. This is also true of others that were present at breakfast. I actually look forward to going to breakfast just to be in the company of people who honestly cared about my vacation my time and my wants. Needless to say it was five star by all measurable means.

Beautiful property. Setup was perfect. If you're a beer drinker, just know it's only Heineken and DosXXs. They do provide Tecate light for the rooms, but Dos seems to be the beer of choice there. My family of four had a great time, not many activities for the littles, but luckily they love the ocean and the beach, so we were good. Cozumel is separated by private beach clubs, and we were lucky to find a resort that has an actual beach with native sand..

The property was amazing. I did not enjoy the food as much as other properties we have stayed at. We did not get to eat at any of the main restaurants on the property due to having to have long pants for dinner. And a large party was difficult to make reservations Very unfortunate
