The elevator did not work and parking is off site. We had to carry luggage from far away parking and walked stairs. The shower had low water flow and water temperature was low. No breakfast.

I had an ok stay, but was surprised to learn that there is no air conditioning during the fall/winter. My room was very stuffy even with the windows open. The breakfast was very limited and not worth the cost. The bathroom had a dirty rag and the light fixture was quite dirty with handprints. The in room phone was so quiet I could barely hear the folks at front desk. The location was good and the valet parking appreciated and a good price.

Check-in was easy and the staff were friendly. Parking was convenient with indoor access to the parkade, and the location on Whyte Ave is excellent. However, shortly after checking into the room, my son began sneezing and within about 10 minutes started wheezing. I was also sneezing. We were only in the room for about 15 minutes before leaving for previously planned activities, and once we left the room, all symptoms went away. We were gone for approximately five hours, and the moment we returned to the room, the same symptoms started again for everyone. While the room itself appeared clean, there was a noticeable “dusty” feeling in the air—almost something you could taste. Due to the reaction, we decided not to stay the night and checked out. It was disappointing given the otherwise positive first impression and great location.

Rooms Getting run down. Unfortunately there was blood on the bathroom wall in our first room. Second room was ok. Breakfast upgrade you still have to pay $10 for pretty greasy food. Unfortunately the Varscona isn’t what it used to be

The gentleman who helped me with check-in was super friendly and welcoming, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the room itself was not clean, there was hair on the bathroom counter and in the bed, and the pillows smelled strongly of cologne. The bed was uncomfortable, the coffee maker didn’t work, and it took about 20 minutes for hot water in the shower. The hallway had litter and stains on the carpet. When I was asked about my stay at checkout, I kindly shared my experience, but the staff member didn’t have much to say in response. Don’t ask for feedback if you’re not prepared to take responsibility for it. I usually stay at the Metterra down the street and will return there in the future. I won’t be back to this property.

We checked in- the lobby was not maintained...quit dirty. Once we got to our room I opened up the curtains and there was a dirty pair of socks and part of a wine cork. This hotel was recommended to me and I am not sure why. It was very dated. Very dirty. Overall not a good experience at all. Will not be staying here again.

Very convenient location that is close to Whyte avenue, the river valley, and the UofA. The rooms were clean, the staff were very kind and helpful, and the rooms were as we expected. The internet in the rooms was unreliable and the TV was small and hard to watch TV on. This was a safe place to stay close to the core of the city and was good value for what you get.

Nisha was awesome in accommodating our request for a quiet room. The hotel is located on busy Whyte Avenue, which is great for restaurants and things to do, but can be noisy at night. Our room on the backside of the hotel was nice and quiet.

The property’s location is undeniably convenient, but the room’s practical shortcomings overshadowed its recent renovation. Power outlets were scarce, the up-cycled fixtures felt more makeshift than modern, and there was no microwave or space for one. We stayed at this hotel last minute due to an unfortunate cancellation at a different property. Overall, we had a good stay. The service was good when we did have minor issues. The coffee maker would not work but was replaced very quickly. We asked for extra coffee and it was at the door very quickly. What we didn’t receive was the Expedia upgrade due to the last minute booking. The floors are hard flooring, however the cleaning staff neither swept nor washed them upon service for the second night of our stay. The opening windows were nice because the HVAC did not cool the room. I think we got a room that was the last available because this is a very busy area. We will stay again for the location and the hotel does treat the guests well.

The young woman with long hair who works the front desk in the morning is great. I wasn’t impressed with the evening staff. I asked for items I needed and they didn’t send them. When I finally went downstairs they got me the towels and Tp but didn’t speak to me. I felt like I’d disturbed them. Not steller.

This place was fine but the front desk staff particularly were rude, and just straight out mean to be honestly. They knew how to make us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome that’s for sure. The restaurant staff though, is a whole different story. They were so nice and so kind and very accommodating. The housekeepers were also very rude. They would use their keys to barge into my room without knocking or stating house keeping is coming in. Very uncomfortable.

Very convenient being right on Whyte Avenue. Lots of unique shops, restaurants, etc. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. Beds are comfortable, and we found it very quiet.

Staff were helpful and professional. The surrounding area of the hotel is sketchy, lots of drunk/drug folks hanging around outside or opposite the hotel entrance, late of a night, or in the housing complex car lot being loud and leery. Not the hotel or staffs fault but omit’s made me think of looking at google maps before booking hotels in future. It’s close enough to to the airport, west Edmonton mall and highways, so for location, in that regard, it was perfect. Parking is interesting, safest to pay for valet as your vehicle will be put in a locked car park, you get 1 x250ml bottle of water each day your room is refreshed, which is basic, but there’s grocery stores nearby to purchase more.

Loved the hotel. But there are some pretty rough looking people hanging around the outside. I definitely would not let my kids or my wife walk to a store alone.

Staff was extremely friendly and polite. Hotel is in a great location. The rooms facing Whyte Ave. can be a bit noisy at night -- ask for a room facing away from Whyte Ave. Room was clean and bathroom had a nice walk-in shower. Breakfast at Ampersand (located in the hotel) was delicious.

Not many spots in central Edmonton don’t charge for parking so that’s a big plus here plus it’s secured and covered. Only downside to Varscona (other than some construction which will be resolved soon) - Breakfast is no longer included. It’s $15.99 and not super worth it. Pop into one of the many local restaurants within walking distance instead

Staff was friendly. Cute entrance. Convenient to bars/restaurants. Pictures looked better online. Bed was not as comfortable as some other hotels I’ve stayed. No hot tub and hotel restaurant closes early. Upon entrance, it appeared some of the hotel was under construction. Parking was not the best, Although it was nice, and staff was great, wouldn’t stay again.

Breakfast was poor, food and eggs Benedict was dried out. Limited food remaining at 10am and no staff around, even though breakfast was advertised till 11am. Something to work on. Other then that the room was clean, but the overall stay was a little loud around the hotel but okay,

This is a character hotel that is aging but still quite comfortable. The location is loud (but manageable) on a Saturday night due to Whyte Ave - heads up. If the front desk had asked us for feedback at checkout, we would have commented that the door has to get closed with significant effort due to some kind of issue. Also—no hot water at all. The breakfast used to be complimentary - no longer. I have stayed here probably 8 or 9 times in the past 10 years —I am probably going to start looking elsewhere when I am in Edmonton.
