The Oberoi Grand, Kolkata

The Oberoi is a peaceful oasis in the middle of bustling chaos. The hotel itself is a beautiful heritage complex and the staff are amazing and attentive. The beautiful outdoor pool just tops it off. It was the best end to my short stay in India.

The service is exceptional but the property is a bit tired in the foyer & could do with a bit of a facelift. Other than that there is nothing I would have wanted to change. It’s a heritage property which is well looked after.

OVERALL: historic hotel right in the city centre and walking distance from key spots auch as Victoria Memorial or Park Street. Spacious rooms, out of date bathrooms, subpar amenities, great spa... It has elements of an unpolished gem, but needs some better care for details: Below the good and not so good: Lacking points: - bathroom, out of date (curtain, no shower head...), amenities are not up to scratch (razors, tooth brush etc, all just average like in any cheap hotel; old hairdryer...) - Forest Essentials shampoo are nice though - in room amenities (tea etc, very low quality; no sparkling water etc, it was like looking at a cheap supermarket shelf; cheap tea, coffee, drinks etc...) - bottled water has a quite strong staid water flavour - sound insulation is quite bad from the door/hallway All that was overshadowed by the good parts - amazing people, service, - restaurants were good for lunch and breakfast - a worldbeating spa - dummy equipped great gym... - and the location in the very city centre you can walk to Victoria Memorial, Indian Museum etc

We overcame initial issues with our reservation and WiFi connectivity to enjoy our 3-night stay. The heritage location and personalized hospitality were highlights. Notably, the IT team facilitated internet connectivity and access to the Business Center for two overnight cancer research meetings. We enjoyed breakfast at threesixtythree and appreciated the follow up from Senior Sous Chef, Karuna Banerjee!

This hotel in the heart of Kolkata is a refugee and sanctuary, part of the charm and majesty that makes the City of Joy a destination of choice for many travelers heading to India. Staff are warm, genuine, thoughtful, and always add a personal touch to my stay. The Spa at the Oberoi has exceptional massages. Highly recommend.

Staff & hospitality was outstanding, as usual. Breakfast was very good. Just that guests should be made aware of certain etiquettes, eg gym usage, showering before using the pool & unnecessary screams by the kids should be made aware to the parents so as not to be a bother for guests. If you are uaving a nice movktail in such a beautiful setting and then a child (acting like a brat) screams and the parents dont say anything, it is a bit uncultured & bit uncalled for. Rooms were in great condition & housekeeping was excellent. The gym equipments are slightly worn out but does the work. Overall, my stay was eventful & I'd return to the Grand.

We stayed at Oberoi Grand Kolkata during late November 2023. Regardless that our reservation was made 4 months in advance for a premier room with balcony, just two days before arriving, we were informed that it would not be available but after exchanging emails we were then re-confirmed. However, upon arrival we were given a wrong room(luxury) with a balcony and finally we were changed to a premier room but without a balcony, a total disaster caused by the reservations department. It should be mentioned that near the second room assigned #464 there was construction work with hammering that stopped after our complaint. The hotel is beautiful and elegant but it is immersed in the middle of chaos that is perceived not only immediately when crossing the door but also from inside because political demonstrations are being held in front with the use of loud speakers. In short, we could not achieve the experience and tranquility that is expected in a property like this.We ate every time at the hotel and the quality of the food in both the restaurant and room service was excellent. The a la carte menu at the 363 restaurant was limited and several wines were not available.There was a wedding during our stay where the attendees were from a big group mostly from the USA and sometimes it was difficult to find a good table at breakfast or a lounge chair at the pool. I recognize that the staff made every effort to please us and that is appreciated, however we would not return.

I am very impressed by the hotel’s ambiance, the service given by all levels of staff, the meticulous attention to detail and the joy in their smile, aptly reflecting the moniker of the City of Joy. The rooms are clean, and the towels are sparkly white, something you don’t get to see in some of the 5-star hotels I have stayed in. Well done Hotel Oberoi Grand 👍

The room I was in had a cockroach and some moths flying around. I did not expect this at an Oberoi property. Service levels have fallen since the last time I stayed in 2022.

Excellent standard of service and cleanliness, located in the center of the city, very close to touristic attractions.

Rooms I think they are going to renovate soon. Breakfast was the highlight with fantastic choice and all the bells and whistles. Staff is the best asset Oberoi has. Alors, par où commencer, parce qu’il tellement de choses positives à dire sur cet hôtel… Pour un 5 étoiles, je m’attendais à un service de qualité mais là dès l’arrivée je suis obligé d’employer des superlatifs pour qualifier cet établissement. Je ne m’attendais pas à recevoir autant d’attention, car le personnel, du manager qui nous reçoit au personnel de ménage, on sent que tout ce monde est formé pour donner une priorité au bien-être des clients, c’est juste incroyable ! Pour donner un exemple, je confiais à la réception lors d’une conversation que mon épouse avait pris froid à cause du temps actuel en Inde (et l’usage obligé de la climatisation). 30 minutes plus tard un grog délicieux accompagné de miel anglais nous était livré en chambre. Second exemple, nous réservons une table pour dîner un soir dans l’un des deux restaurants de l’hôtel (dont un est thaïlandais, parfaitement délicieux et somptueusement décoré avec charme et luxe), mon épouse étant encore souffrante demande s’il est possible de préparer pour elle quelques chose qui ne soit pas épicé. 10 minutes plus tard nous sommes de retour en chambre, et c’est le chef de cuisine en personne qui se déplace et vient frapper à la porte pour prendre connaissance des goûts et des besoins personnels de mon épouse afin de préparer au mieux le repas du soir, et ce dîner fut inoubliable avec en prime un cadeau réservé à mon épouse de la part du chef. Inutile de parler de propreté ou de confort, tout est juste parfait !

This hotel is my favorite in Kolkata. The service is the best ever. But unfortunately the rooms smelled very musty and moldy this time. My husband has ashtma so we had to change room to get a balcony room for the air flow (which they charged), was musty as well! Room#354. We had to turn the AC off and let the natural air flow the whole time by cracking the balcony door open. Maybe it's the particular wing of the hotel since I've stayed there before and didn't have this issue. I think it needs a renovation soon atleast that wing of the hotel. Other than that everything was perfect.

Lovely property, but I struggled to eat the food and the bath was pretty dirty for a 5 star. I also felt the staff were TOO on top of it - I wanted some time with my thoughts and kept getting interrupted by staff when I wanted to just be left alone. So I was secretly irritated.

Staffs are excellent. They are the only reason I stayed 12 days at the hotel. Breakfast and dining quality and all the staffs starting from security guard are excellent. Areas outside the hotel particularly at the front has too many street hawkers on the sidewalks. Unfortunately, it is the normal sight of these areas of Kolkata. Hotel has no control over it. Hotel is trying to keep an antique look but the floor carpet and the furniture looks very old and feel dirty. These hotel can keep few rooms with an antique looks but should not sale it as a deluxe room where even the electrical outlet was not functioning. Everyday day cleaning person was keeping a piece of towel shaped cloth as a floor mat inside the bathroom. It crumbled when you open the the door because the door and the floor has no gap. We felt like we were living in grandfather's house. We grew up looking at the hotel as a standard of luxury but I was disappointed that this hotel did not maintained the standard of Oberoi names are famous for. Hotel needs renovation badly keeping the old wood work but mixing with the luxury to compete with the modern luxury hotels in the city.

Thoroughly spotless in every way, comfort enhanced by staff attitude. As an 88 year old with mobility issues I was grateful for the kindness and attention shown.

Wifi was slow

Great hotel embued with charm and elegance. The rooms have high ceilings, comfortable beds and most importantly international power sockets, something i wish all hotels had. Staff is very courteous and helpful. A wide selection of healthy breakfast options are a welcome start to the day. No complaints. I'd come here again...

Really nice hotel that is within the busy city but still feels somewhat secluded. Staff was all very nice and helpful. Room was cozy and clean. Easy to walk around to some nearby shopping and locations or grab a ride to explore Kolkata.

A grand dame in a great location. Revisiting after 10 years. A traditional look hotel with modern twists and themes throughout. The bedrooms are a little tired but they are undergoing refurbishment. Staff very helpful and just really nice. Great food!

It is an old hotel but has been renovated nicely throughout the hotel. We stayed in premier room for 5 nights . Large bedroom but the bath room is very small. The room serves was excellent. The staff were very helpful and made our stay very comfortable. We have few little issues in the room but they were put right straight away. I wasn’t very impressed with the service in the dining room. Few times we were take to a table which was dirty and we were told sit while they were cleaning. They shouldn’t have take us to the table before cleaning. We were happy to wait for them to clean the table before we were taken to the table. After ordering cooked breakfast there is long waiting some days we were waiting for the menu for over 5 minutes. You will have to wait for tea another 5 times. We had to wait for everything. There are plenty of staff in the dining room but I think they need more training. All the staff including the door men were very helpful. Thank you everyone for making our stay comfortable.

The Grand Old Dame lived up to it's name - cared for unflinchingly. In these days of electronic gadgets, a few more charging points in the rooms would be helpful.

Stunning service each and every time. Impeccable team. We especially loved Nancy and Antony at the 363 restaurant - they are exceptional and personal able and will go far!

Heritage hotel centrally located with rich history & spacious room, but barely a window & needs physical refresh with better housekeeping standards. Love the public Areas. Inconsistent service from bare minimum to non existent (rare Oberoi hotel where i felt completely ignored to consistently ask for simple things like refilling or offering water before & during meals, snacks with drinks in bar etc.)

Grand Hotel (now Oberoi Grand) in Kolkata is a gem of its own. It has managed to preserve the vintage India regale in a British era architecture. However what sets it apart are not the structure or the amenities but the attitude of the staff. They far surpass the service standard of any 5 star hotel in India and possibly of the best hotels in the world. They will be at your beck and call 24x7, be it the housekeeping, the in room dining or any other department. They will try to find the best way to make your stay enjoyable and offer above and beyond their work. It is the staff that make this hotel the best in Kolkata if not in the world. They have earned a repeat customer here.

Lovely property with outstanding service. Everyone goes out of their way to help. Even when there are gaps in their service, their recovery is spectacular.

This is one of the best hotels we have ever visited. The communication from the staff was so swift and efficient with Mr Adnan Asaz responding to my emails a few weeks prior to our visit with astonishing alacrity. A pick-up from the airport was waiting for us on arrival in Kolkata and on reaching the hotel many of the staff were there to great us including general manager Natasha. What a friendly hotel!

Everything was excellent except that the service at the restaurant was a bit slow.

The staff was very courteous respectful and very helpful. I forgot my phone in a yellow taxi and the hotel chief security officer went out of his way to recover the phone. Kudos to him. Highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel is superb - absolutely outstanding. Compared with the best in New York, Sydney, London and Paris, we would come back here first! All the staff were friendly, smiling, hard-working, smart as paint, professional and effective beyond anything we have previously experienced. They think outside the box: it hits you that they really enjoy their jobs, and they all speak excellent English. The dignified, low-profile period building beats its high-rise rivals hands down, with beautiful maintenance. The palm and pool courtyard has a clean, tropical elegance and is surprisingly quiet, thanks to Kolkata's adjacent large green space. The delicious food is world haute cuisine at normal hotel prices. We ate again and again in both the main and Thai restaurants. Breakfast was unbelievably good in choice and quality. The managers and waiters worked very hard to be attentive and helpful. The chefs came to the floor and talked at length about their dishes, which was really interesting. We have never experienced such quality and hard work with food served in our room, which was immaculate, clean, very comfortably furnished and with a sublime balcony view of the pool and palms like going back 100 years. The concierge worked extraordinarily hard for hours to make arrangements for us, where other hotels would have given up long before. Hotel transport was reasonably-priced, always punctual, friendly, well-driven and comfortable. The laundry came back pristine.

Beautiful and will maintained heritage property spoilt by the Hawkers in the arcade. A real eye sore, unsafe to walk outside.

The property is an oasis in the bustling older part of central Kolkata. It’s very close to Park Street and many major attractions. The area immediately outside has gotten inundated in recent times with hawkers/ street vendors on rather generous sidewalks. It makes walking to Park Street challenging. It didn’t seem unsafe but just too crowded on the sidewalks to take advantage of the central location of Oberoi Grand by foot.

It is in an amongst the hustle and bustle of Kolkata so everything is easily accessible but when you step in to the hotel itself, it is calm and serene.

Nice hotel, great and smiling and helpful stuff. Good breakfast but getting coffee refills was a challenge or too slow to come. Wine and beer prices at the hotel restaurant is exorbitantly high! This is an aging hotel and in need of remodeling. Otherwise very pleasant and comfortable. Located in the heart if downtown Kolkata which gives it a special charm and access to main attractions, unless one minds the busy and noisy and often too crowded Indian cities. Would recommend to others.

Always a fantastic address in Kolkata. The service is probably the best out of any 5* in town from the ease of checkin, the wonderful Baan Thai restaurant, or the extensive breakfast spread or the antique splendor of the place. Would stay again.

It was/ is as usual a wonderful stay — that makes you feel like going back SOON! The breakfast was pampering your taste buds to start the day.
