This was a beautiful late 1800s building, with perfect modern updates. I would stay in yhis place over and over again. The indoor pool and hottub was clean and big enough for laps. Theres also a sauna. Irs walking distance from anywhere you need to go and 1 block to the city free tram. We wheeled our luggage from bus stop to the hotel, then the next day, we wheeled them the block to the tram and rode it to the cruise ship. The staff was excellent, friendly, knowledgeable and very welcoming.

Great value for money. The spacious suite had everything I needed and was well-maintained. The location was perfect, just a short walk to the Convention Centre and South Wharf. All staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Had one relaxing evening in the hot tub in the pool area. Highly recommended and will definitely choose again.

The room was nice enough, but the facilities were anything but "grand". Sauna, gym, and the associated changerooms looked like they were ready for demolition and definitely hadn't been cleaned in a long while. There were no towels and no ability to clean gym equipment after use. All in all not great value for a significant price, especially not when compared to other hotels in the area. The whole place exuded a slightly daggy and worn vibe. I would suggest a new name: "Faded Glory Hotel".

It’s such delight to find not only a building with classic character, but also a business that is run with old school customer service values. From the second we pulled up to the moment we checked out the staff were wonderful. The staff member who checked us in was amazing, giving us all the information we’d need for our stay, but also escorting us to our secure parking spot for the weekend and then giving us a tour of the facilities. The room we had on the 6th floor was clean, spacious and had full kitchen facilities. We were blown away with the scale of the halls and the grand ceiling height. It is refreshing to find a place to stay in the city that’s not just the same modern, uninspired and forgettable room that you’ve stayed in a million times before. The proximity to southern cross station, marvel stadium and the exhibition centre make it a great choice for regional travellers. We will stay at the grand Melbourne hotel again.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Grand. Great location with easy access to train stations and trams. Staff were friendly. The heated pool was a bonus. The restaurant served fabulous Indian food in the evening and the Grain Store in Flinders Lane, that they recommended for breakfast, was superb. Definitely will stay there again.

Excellent hotel with extremely spacious rooms. Very accommodating staff. The pool was terrific and kept a very comfortable warm temperature for swimming lengths. Would definitely recommend it and would stay here again.

Surely This was not the property I had stayed at before! Thin sheets .. dirty vents. Curtains off their tracks.. and who the heck charges for a Nespresso coffee pod. No breakfasts… and the main foyer was like walking into a cheap self serve backpackers! Look I can’t fault the 2 team members who I saw .. they were polite. I went to the spa and was greeted by the thickest greasiest flick of what I assumed was skin .. ewwww… outta there! The entry to the hotel which the lovely garden pots.. full of cigarette butts. I was very disappointed. Will not return. Did not see one room service or maintenance service person.

We really enjoyed the convenient location and the unique features of this hotel. Even though the room was a little dated and needed some repairs, it was none the less comfortable and very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful with great information on the local area. We will stay again on our next visit.

It was nice and close to everything, quite noisy as the train line is basically next to hotel. Shower could have done with a decent scrub. The bed was so soft we basically ended up sinking in it.

Service was exceptional (thanks Denis), room was comfortable and was equipped with everything you would want. Surprisingly quiet while still overlooking the railway tracks. Access to Foxtel with a separate tv in the bedroom. Our room was only meant to be serviced once during our 5 night stay, but was made-up on a second occasion. The spa & sauna was a really nice addition (didn’t try the pool, but was still lovely & warm), while the shower did have some mould on the silicon around the tiles. Had a great stay and would definitely stay again.

I hadn’t stayed for many years (15+) so I was excited to be staying in what was a great hotel. But sadly since my last stay nothing has been maintained. Bathroom had hair on the floor beard shaving in the sink and around the tap, the tiles were badly broken, the shower head didn’t stay up. I can only assume the white crusty dribbles down the bathroom door were from a fun night had by previous occupants The towels were thin as could be while still resembling an towel and useless to use after a shower. The curtains had burn marks and holes and overall very dirty. The overall feel of the room was sad. In realestate terms it was a renovators delight.

Had a room with the upstairs bedroom and bathroom. Stairway was steep and difficult for older people, particularly if lugging suitcases up and down was involved. Great location near the city and Southern Cross station. It is an older style hotel, with a lot of interesting and quirky features like massive hallways and super high ceilings. We only had 1 night, but it was good.

We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Hotel. The studio room was very spacious with an amazingly comfortable king size bed. The kitchen had everything we would need if we were staying longer, dishwasher, microwave and a good size small refrigerator. Bathroom was a good size and the shower and excellent rainfall shiwer. Balcony outside and double glazed windows which did mute the sound of the nearby trains! Didn't notice them at all in the night. Close to trams, Southern Cross station, supermarkets and DFOs. We will definitely make this out hotel of choice in Melbourne.

Beautiful old Victoria Rail building with high ceilings spacious hallways and good sized rooms. The rooms are double glazed to reduce the noise from the nearby trains but they still audible - The rumble of the trains did not bother me but may do for others.

The girl at reception was rude and very unhelpful. I would not come there again because of her and I have already told other people not to stay there because she was just plain rude. Parking is expensive and NOT free....brochures / websites etc say parking is available but do not say you have to pay for it. You have to cross a busy road and go down another road to get breakfast - its just stupid. Building itself is beautiful - room which we stayed though was really disappointing and not worth the money paid for it. The building is gorgeous from the outside but that is the only thing this hotel has going for it. It is expensive for the nothing they provide. And the reception girl on the weekend we stayed was just plain rude.

10 stars for customer service. Every single staff member we interacted with during our stay were amazing. So helpful and polite. The property is located very conveniently to shopping, public transport, and restaurants. Felt very safe walking to the hotel at night (after attending a concert nearby). Will definitely be staying again.

I stayed for just one night to attend the Australian Open and work from Melbounre the next day. I had the best CBD hotel experience in quite a while. Very unique, historic building, excellent customer service and spacious room. I also enjoyed teh pool very much. Top value for money. I will be staying again.

The staff were excellent and could not do enough to make my stay pleasant. The bed was super comfortable and overall the room was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the chocolates they left in my room upon arrival. The only down side was the the noise form the trams, however this subsided during the night so it was not really noticed.

It was so refreshing to stay at an establishment with old fashioned values and personalised service. My partner and i stayed at the Grand for 2 nights and could not fault it at all. Dennis the owner had a personalised card hand written on the desk in our apartment when we arrived as well as a fine selection of chocolates. During our stay we contacted to see if eveything was satisfactory which is something that never happens anymore, it was great to be treated as a human and not just a number, we will definitely be back soon. Thankyou to Dennis and all of his staff for making our stay memorable

The Grand is in a top location. Its a 5 minute walk to Southern Cross station and about the same to the casino and adjacent restaurants. Its also 5 minute to several tram stops which run quite frequently. The foyer of The Grand is a bit drab but you can't fault the friendly service or the rooms. I would stay there again.

For such a reasonable price, this hotel was located perfectly within walking distance to marvel stadium for a concert we were attending. It’s also very central and within walking distance to a lot of places we wanted to explore. Transportation was readily accessible, as well as lots of dining options located just up the road, open all hours. Staff were fantastic, extremely friendly and helpful, particularly Denis. We will definitely be back!

This Gran Dame has seen better days. It is great for long term staying, but lacks the amenities we associate with a modern hotel chain. That being said, you could not be in a better location for access to multiple tram lines. The inhouse restraunt is a very good Indian restaurant. But there are ample choices within a couple of minutes walk.

It’s also very central and within walking distance to a lot of places we wanted to explore. This is an old heritage building looked after extremely well. Even though it is close to the railway station it is still very quiet. Close to Crown for food and an Indian Restaurant onsite. Must book with this. It is very busy.
