Melbourne Marriott Hotel

It was a nice stay. I think the pool needs some maintenance- it had an odd smell But overall it was a clean room great location comfortable thank you

Can't fault the standard of accommodation, facilities and dining however I nearly missed my flight the following morning due to a wait of 25 minutes to retrieve my car via valet parking.

Loved the glass of bubbly on arrival at check in. Loved comfortable beds, very quiet rooms. Didn't love the digital clock alarm having been preset and going off at 6.00am Sunday morning! Also didn't love that we were advised parking would be $50 and we have been charged $60. We could have walked 200 metres up the road and paid $18

Great location in Melbourne CBD. Excellent breakfast buffet. Quo k and easy check in and valet parking service. Super warm pool and spa treating a Melbourne winter. Some facilities in bathroom were poor - shower head was loose and would not stay up making shower inconvenient and had to do a hose shower rather than standing under reflecting poor maintenance and shower screen did not go all way resulting in spillage of water into main bathroom area. Reception staff were asked to provide ice for an injury and agreed to send but beer arrived so concerned that messages to front desk don’t get actioned upon. Not really a 5 star experience. Could do with a renovation to bring it up to true 5 star standard.

I stay at Marriott hotels a lot and I expect a certain quality. Unfortunately this hotel did not meet those expectations. There were several good things though: the location was great. Right next to Chinatown and 2 shopping malls. We could walk to the free tram around the city. The hotel is clean. The coffee shop made very good Lattes. The front desk gave us free sparkling wine at check-in, which was very good. Now for the negatives. The bed was very hard. I have back pain from sleeping in it. My room safe didn’t work and I called twice for someone to fix it, but they never did. My shower drain was clogged and so it almost overflowed with every shower. Again no one came to fix it when I called. There are no drawers in the hotel room. We traveled a long way to Australia and had a lot of luggage. It would have been nice to “move in” to the hotel room instead of having to open suitcases every time we needed clothes. Especially since many suitcases now need to be opened in the middle taking up a lot of space. The bartenders at the lobby bar were very nice but it’s not a full bar. They can’t make common cocktails that aren’t on their menu. I asked for a Manhattan which only has 3 ingredients (and I didn’t want a cherry, so just whiskey and vermouth shaken over ice), and they couldn’t make it for me.

I booked the accommodation in my partner’s name with the intention of paying myself on my arrival Friday night after work. She arrived from overseas and no one helped her with her 30kg suitcase and other bag. When I discovered immediately after she checked in that her card had been charged, no choice, I rang to sort it out. Got a technical response “booking says POA” and no apologies and no attempt to help at all and not what I expect from a 5 star hotel! If I hadn’t turned up, there would have been no problems charging my card! These were significant irritations to what was otherwise a great stay. Friendly staff, my baggage was sorted out for me immediately (I didn’t have to lug it around) valet parking was great, breakfast was great, reception staff were great. Excellent location close to Parliament Station, Chinatown, Bourke Street, Collins Street, Vic Market.

Fantastic check in experience with even being offered a sparkling wine as we checked in. Points off for the hotel bar closing at 9.30pm on a Friday night when still plenty of guests and more coming back from theatre shows etc.

A great experience from check-in to check-out! Bubbles and hot chocolate offered on arrival and the pool/spa/sauna was a real stand out for both the adults and the child staying at Marriott for our visit. There were lots of little 'special touches' that showed that there as effort being taken.

Staff friendly and helpful, but seem short staffed. Only room for 4 cars at the front to stop for 2 minutes and drop off, but cars were parked there for ages. Had to drive around the block waiting for someone to assist with Valet parking. It maybe took half an hour to sort out. Staff excuse was the football is on. No different to any other winter Saturday in Melbourne. Rooms are comfortable but bathroom tired, with orange mould and floors not cleaned into the corners. If it wasn’t for the Expedia points I had paying a large chunk, I would have been extremely for a reportedly 5 star hotel. While our stay was mostly pleasant, I am unsure how it’s still rated 5 stars.

We booked this hotel because it has an indoor pool only to arrive and find out the pool was closed for cleaning. This was poor timing during the school holidays.

No hotel understands that the grout in a bathroom also needs attention if they did this would be a 5 star from me. There is also no top sheet on the bed just a doona which meant a very restless sleep as there is no air con that you control it’s a central thing which isn’t great. For the price and for what should be a 4 star hotel there are a few easy things that could make it a brilliant place to stay!!!

Lovely, modern, spacious and clean hotel with polite, friendly and helpful staff. Great location for theatres, restaurants and bars, but still quiet.

Modern, clean, very friendly and professional staff and very reasonable price. Kids got an activity pack and chocolate on arrival. Free bottled water in the room.

Wonderful from start to finish. Welcoming staff, we received a welcome glass of sparkling which was a lovely touch at check-in. It was a spacious room, clean and comfortable. Minor things, a spare pillow would be nice, and although the bathroom looked new it had a damp smell.

This property has zero heating in rooms so be prepared for a chilly to cold stay in winter... My room averaged 20C through a 4 night stay... Otherwise, a fine hotel with a great staff!

We were offered an upgrade on arrival that was not an upgrade at all. A larger room but with one less bed. The sofa bed was not good at all. Saggy. The hotel is showing its age. In addition the room we were given was one of those that has an adjoining door to a nearby suite. However the walls were paper thin and there was a very loud family fighting for hours next door. It was an unbearable stay. The hotel does not deserve its current star rating.

Very spacious rooms. Liked the separate bathroom/luggage area. Clean and up to date.

Staff were amazing and so helpful. Unfortunately room advertised as having two beds actually had a pull out couch making for an uncomfortable night.

Location is suited for Southern Cross Train station. Aircon does not allow heating at this hotel which was disappointing.

Staff were great very helpful and friendly. Got our room early so we could go straight up. Deluxe room on the 10 storey which sounds great but the view from the window was a brick wall not good for a deluxe room could hardly even see the sky. But everything else was perfect.

I had booked for city views was a bit disappointed that they changed my room to a lower level with a brick wall but had a court yard when i booked I avoided the courtyard for the city view my only complaint and even told them when checking in was disappointed

Awesome location and facilities. Only complaint was the beds, they were quite uncomfortable, particularly one of the double beds in the room we were in.

Did not sleep well. 3 nights. The bed was comfy but only a duvet so got hot and cold. Need sheets and a blanket. Stubbed my toes on a bed leg that was broken and sticking out sideways. No room heating, only cooling. Temperature display was defaulted to Fahrenheit. I had booked with breakfast included but on checkout the breakfast cost had been added in again so had to get that removed. Good job I looked closely at the bill. No ambience in the room and no view but I guess that is what to expect in inner city Breakfast was ok but no fried tomatoes and plates were pretty cold. Marmalade pot lids appeared superglued and almost impossible to open (Yarra Valley).

For the breakfast buffet they charge the same price for kids and adults. The shower has half open glass so water leaks on the floor when you take a shower. The bathroom door did not close. It didn’t feel like the staff cared. The location was good.

Writing this review not as a complaint but as a suggestion for better customer service. Although the location is good, the customer service and concierge services could have been more user friendly, concierge in particular. Requested a room with a view and got a room without. Called front-desk to get it changed, and they said they would send someone upstairs. Waited 30 minutes, and then went downstairs to get the keys. They did not provide me the keys to my old room so found myself locked out from the bags. Housekeeping tried helping me by calling the front-desk but she was on hold for 15 ins or so. Went downstairs again, waited in the line to get my old room keys. All this took me an hour and 45 mins to settle in my room. Very frustrating ! During checkout I left my bag with the concierge and when I came back to collect it, the person was speaking with another person having a casual talk. I was trying to get his attention as my Uber ride to the airport was waiting outside. Tried to get this attention again but still he made me wait. He could have told the other person with whom he was having a casual conversation to wait. Finally had to tell him that my Uber is waiting and he said hold on. This was the most frustrating part of my experience here at this Marriott. I am sorry, but the management needs to make the customer service a fit accommodating and friendly if not north-starish. Thank you !

I could not fault the customer service. From our initial contact, right up until the valet parking attendant assisted with packing our car when leaving- absolute excellence!

I enjoyed the breakfast as being vegetarian I could order from the menu and they had a nice variety. It was close to areas I needed to go and although the tram was a block away we made good use of it. We found the staff in all area courteous, helpful and kind!

Friendly and courteous staff. Room was very comfortable but could do with some munchies like chips, peanuts, biscuits in the room. Otherwise great. Dinner and breakfast wonderful. Will come back for sure.

Excellent value, my kids loved the pool and the buffet breakfast! The staff were very accommodating.

Would be nice if breakfast is available for people that are flying out early
