The King-size double bed and the sheets, pillows etc we were in was excellent. The location for walking around the downtown was perfect. HOWVER, the room itself had very poor ameneties: the dresser was rickety and its drawer would fall out if opened too far; the closet was narrow and had only three wooden hangars; while the sink in the room was good, the bathroom shower needed a non-slip mat since it was very slippery. The coverings on the three windows next to the bed were basic plastic pull-downs that did not block the festive lighting on the facing Bastion Square; the window sill on one of the windows had paint peeling. The worst part overall however was not the noise IN the hotel: it was the NOISE from the bands in the "Irish Times Pub" whic was literalyy approximately 20 ft (or less?) was from the right side of the bed. On the Friday night our desk recepionist said that the noise would stop at 11.00 pm. Not so!! It was at least 2.00 am on Saturday morning and 1.30 am next morning, Monday; on the last night we were there the band music atopped at around midnight. The Manager called me the next day and offered to move us after our first night's complaint, we told her that since we had travelled a great distance (from New Zealand) before checking in and that were out with local friends when she called, we were not able to easily take advantage of her offer, and we declined it. The location is not suitable for weary elderly travellers, based on our experience.

Location is ideal for walking around the city. This is a unique heritage property. Yes old. Remember you get what you pay for.

The rooms are clean cozy and was a good experience. The fact the it was essentially silent in my room on a Friday night on the busiest road in downtown Victoria. The staff was excellent and the rooms were great. Stoked and clean no complaints. Highly recommend.

Rooms are very tired but seem to be holding on much better than the mattress, which gave up several years ago. Streetside rooms are incredibly loud from the street bars and music scene on government street which ends around 11pm. It would have been decent customer service to have warned me at check it. The carpets in the halls and room are well past their usability but are at least not as thread bare and thin as the bathroom towels. There is a window mounted air conditioner that was white plastic back in the 90’s but is as yellow now as the hairs of a white bearded chain smoker. Also no decor at all in the room. Perfect hotel room to film a murder scene of a down and out habitual drinker and pull tab gambling addict.
