Amethyst Inn

Wow! What a find this charming Oak Bay mansion is! We spent a couple of nights there enjoying the charming and cosy old room and amenities. We enjoyed the lovely neighbourhood— great for walks and not too far from downtown. The breakfast each day was served in a lovely old dining room. There was plenty of food including fruit and home baking. It was a very full breakfast worth taking extra time to appreciate and enjoy. This hotel was an amazing value! We’re booked to stay there again soon. There is ample free private parking. This place is now on our priority stay list.

Wonderful Victorian property. Lots of stairs so if you have difficulty climbing stairs ask for a room on the second floor. Only bathtubs on 3rd floor. No air conditioning so 3rd floor can get quite warm. Great breakfasts freshly cooked but chefs choice so if you don't like eggs talk to them about options. Plenty of parking, Close to Oak Bay for restaurants. Lovely hosts and staff.

Wonderful property, breakfast was superb. You do have to carry luggage up stairs to your room. Lovely Victorian home.

This property is a lovely old Victorian house which has been beautifully restored. Safe, private parking. The breakfast is amazing!

Beautiful old hotel, really great neighborhood, parking on site, close to the Victorian rose garden and Craigdarroch Castle

Besonders gut gefallen hat uns das Frühstück. Da sind wir auch anderes aus Nordamerika gewöhnt. Das Zimmer (Rendevouz) war sehr gemütlich. Das Personal sehr freundlich und die Lage sowie Parkmöglichkeiten (vor der Tür) sind super. Immer wieder gerne.

An exquisite experience in an antique Victorian bed and breakfast! It is a huge old Victorian home of the 1890’s and all rooms are with unique design and antique furniture…so beautiful! There are 3 flights of stairs with no elevators and no elevators, but you get used to that and the ambiance is worth it! The 4 course breakfast that comes with the price of the room is AMAZING and stunningly beautiful! Every day homemade fresh baked pastries ( scones or buttery croissants or blueberry muffins or cheese scones, etc). The food is served like service for queen! Unbelievable the quantity of food served for a formal breakfast EVERY day in the dining room! This is a must-stay-at inn if you are visiting Victoria! The staff are all so personal and lovely! We LOVED staying there 4 nights!

Amethyst Inn is a cozy and comfortable place to stay. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were very tasty. The historic house is beautiful and well-maintained. The only negatives: (1) be prepared to walk up and down lots of stairs, and (2) it's located in a nice neighborhood, but it's just a little bit too far to comfortably walk to downtown and the waterfront. Overall, however, we really liked staying here.

Das Hotel befindet sich in einem historischen Gebäude. Man fühlt sich in die viktorianische Zeit zurück versetzt. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich. Es gibt ein ausgezeichnetes Frühstück. Allerdings gibt es keinen Aufzug. Wir hatten ein Zimmer im 2. Stock und mussten viele Stufen nach oben steigen. Das Stadtzentrum von Victoria ist fußläufig zu erreichen. Es gibt aber auch eine sehr gute Busverbindung.

Where to start... One of the mugs in the room was cracked and leaked hot water everywhere. The layout of the room was terrible - not enough room for the bed with the huge armoire, and the fridge was in the bathroom?? Never seen that before. The coded lock was broken - very finicky with both the digital code and the physical key. The walls are extremely thin - every time another suite used water, it sounded like it was right in our room (which woke us up several times). Worst of all, construction was being done directly above our suite (electrical saw, drill, metal grinder, all very loud). This started just after check in when we were trying to unpack and relax a bit before the wedding we were going to, and then they started again the next morning (Sunday) at 8am! The carpet was also disgusting and smelled bad, and there was a dirty tissue left beside the bed before we checked in. Overall extremely disappointed, big waste of money. Didn't even bother going for the included breakfast in the morning, just got out of there ASAP.

Carpet/furnitures are dusty, cleanliness is a concern. Molding smell in the room. Dim lighting. The shower room is a joke because there is a tub only, can’t even stand straight due to the weird shape of the room. Sound proof is bad. I know this is an old building but it needs at least a full painting and cleaning if you want to do business.

It was a beautiful house, full of character. The decor was delightful: a floating mahogany staircase and stunning leaded light windows. The bedroom was huge, as was the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and everywhere was spotless. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was exceptional. We highly recommend staying here.

We loved the house and the beautiful interior decor. The room was very charming and the soaker tub was beyond delightful. Breakfast was delicious and very filling. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The only reasons we couldn’t give some things 4 or 5 stars is due to cleanliness. The exterior needs a good power wash and paint job, it looks run down. The interior has some maintenance issues and our room had some dust buildups. Some of the common rooms had cleaning supplies left out for long periods of time. But we overall loved it and would recommend for the price.

Staff was super sweet and welcoming, our room was spotless upon arrival and we really enjoyed our stay! Nice area too, quiet but close to downtown:)

Breakfast was absolutely delicious, rooms are cozy and clean, staff was there was when you need them (like a secret ninja, she was right where we needed her when we had a question and never seen the rest of the time). Place is well kept, clean and cozy. Zero negatives about staying here, plus the price was excellent

Breakfast and service were lovely but the room really needed a deep clean. Curtains were very very dusty (visibly) and some items needed repair or updating (broken shade on lamp). Little things. I love a Victorian bnb but keeping it clean and in good repair is so important.

The property inside and out needs a good clean/improvements. The outdoor stairs are a safety concern. They are very steep and IMO should have non-slip treads on them. We stayed in 2 different rooms over 3 nights and went from disappointed to very disappointed with our stay. We are aware that it’s an old house, however, the rooms we were in showed signs of neglect. Heavily stained/soiled carpets, cracked sink/poor drainage, poor lighting, no instructions regarding how to work the TVs. Our 2nd room didn’t have a mini fridge and we weren’t told up front that the tv box wasn’t working so no tv! Poor communication.

Clean and quiet and only a 25 minute walk to downtown. Loved the delicious breakfast that was served in the cosy and comfy dining room. Very comfy king bed and enjoyed the huge jacuzzi tub.

Staff - manager and owner were very pleasant and helpful during stay. Room was clean and quiet except the bed which was very creaky and noisy with just simple movement in and out of bed and not terrible comfortable (needs a memory foam topper). Breakfast was delicious and with little notice was able to be served earlier than normal to accommodate our schedule. Generally very happy with stay although would prefer a more comfortable quieter bed to get a better sleep.

Beautiful heritage Victorian house with large, clean, comfortable rooms. We stayed in the Duchess room , which had a four-poster King Size canopy bed. The furniture was antique and in very good condition. It was a charming room, complete with two wing chairs and a jetted tub in the bathroom. Breakfasts each day were wonderful. Every breakfast began with a fruit parfait containing grapes, blueberries and raspberries - topped with some vanilla yogurt and a sprinkling of granola. This was served in a cut crystal stemmed dish. There was a warm bread offering next. Breakfast mains changed each day and were delicious. Food was served on fine, antique china in a beautiful setting. The cutlery was silverware. White tablecloths and fancy folded napkins enhanced the breakfast dining experience. The staff were warm and welcoming. It was a delightful experience. The location was great for walking. We could walk to the inner harbour, Rockland Road, Craigdarroch Castle, Government House, Becon Hill Park, Cook Street village and restaurants - each of these destinations in under 40 minutes.

Beautiful historic home. The area around seemed to have a few homeless people under the influence. The room we stayed in had a portable air con unit with a plastic bucket for the water, we were told to keep the bathroom door shut or the smoke alarm would go off. Room was a loft room and there was only a small area you could stand up in, banged my head in the dark! I think we just had a bad room. Breakfast was fabulous

This is an absolutely wonderful bed and breakfast, set in an old, but well maintained mansion. We received an unexpected upgrade to the Royal Suite and were blown away by the luxurious sitting room, 4 poster king bed and huge jacuzzi tub. It was so impressive we debated cancelling our evening plans and just staying in the room. The breakfast in the morning was excellent and abundant. We will return here whenever we are in Victoria.

Our room was spacious, the furnitures and the decorations matched the 140 year old heritage home. The breakfast in the morning was delicious.

Absolutely gorgeous! The room was comfortable and charming and the huge bathtub was to die for! Such luxury and incredible service!!

This was a lovely old manor house with Victorian decor to match! Our bed was very comfortable and the room well furnished. Some brighter bedside reading lamps would have been helpful and the Wifi was very weak in our bedroom, but stronger out in the hallway. The staff members were friendly and welcoming and told us everything we needed to know. The breakfast was generous, delicious, and nicely served. The location was very central; you could walk to downtown in 30 mins. A charming area of historic homes with some restaurants and stores nearby. We will return to the Amethyst for sure!

Time period inn, with well kept furniture of the era. Check in the seamless. We could not get the furnace to turn on, but everything else worked as intended. Not the most comfortable bed / chair. Nice working window, standing tub.

The property was beautiful. When we arrived there was no one to greet us. We rang the door bell and no one came. We walked around the building. We came back later and rang again--no one came. We knocked. Eventually someone came. We witnessed the same thing happen to another guest. It felt unhospitable and stressful.

The breakfast was fantastic and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. This is my second time staying at Amethyst and I will continue to stay there each trip to Victoria. I highly recommend this unique, historic Inn.

This was my wife and I first time visiting Canada and we were happy that we stayed at amethyst inn. First off the house and room itself was clean and well kept but just a little dated. Which is to be expected from a house with a lot of history. The staff(Racheal and Serena) were extremely nice and helpful. The best experience was definitely the breakfast! It was a three course meal and the options changed everyday. My wife, who can’t have dairy or potato, was able eat everything they brought out since they were very adamant about allergies. She was thrilled!! Lastly, the hotel is 25 mins east of downtown which wasn’t all that bad to walk. The surrounding area was nice. We didn’t feel unsafe at all walking around. We made a lot of memories and had a great time! We will definitely visit again. :)

AVOID! This is where luxury goes to die. I checked in after hours. The staff member, who I later found out was the owner, rushed me through the process and did not help me with my bags. Upon entering my room, I found it extremely run down. The carpet was filthy, and there was a pungent smell in the bathroom. There were dead wasps in the corner of the room, cobwebs, thick dust on the baseboards, and dirty walls. The room was chilly and only got colder during the night. I attempted to turn up the heat but the room did not warm. At 2 am, I attempted to reach the staff member multiple times, but there was no answer. After an hour, I attempted again, and the owner answered. The individual was not able to understand what I was saying. After attempting to explain the heat situation for several minutes with no resolution, I ended the call. After a sleepless night due to the cold, I attempted to speak with the owner in person about the lack of heat. She immediately barged into my room and pointed to two thermostats. I told her that I had increased the temperature on one, to which she shook her head and pointed to the other, which was off entirely. She was not apologetic and said nothing as she left my room. Given the dirty state of the room, I did not stay for breakfast. Despite being booked for two nights, I left after the first and moved to a hotel, despite being told there would be no refund if I did not stay the second night. I would give a zero-star rating if it were an option.

There were limited staff on hand. We left our luggage before check in time. We were given a key to the front door. When we returned at 6 pm the lobby was empty. We had to shout to get someone to attend to us. We eventually got taken to a room in the attic. Being 6 ft 5 in the sloping roof made it uncomfortable. In good accommodation they see my height and put me in a room with suitable ceilings. There was no info on how to log into the Wi-Fi The hotel interior looks grand and the breakfast was good

Wonderful! What a beautiful place and the daily breakfast completely exceeded our expectations. I would stay here again and reccomend it to friends. (Also, only about a 30min walk from downtown or a very easy commute by bus, with stops very conveniently located)

The inn was very unique and provided us with a quaint Victorian experience. The breakfast was very hearty and substantial. It’s located in a very beautiful neighborhood - great for walks.

The Amethyst Inn is a heritage home renovated into lovely rooms with baths, decorated to the period of the home. visitors should be able to take the stairs! We were at the top of the house with a view of the neighbouring home and garden, complete with entertaining squirrels in the trees. A walk around the area is a feast for the eyes, of beautiful homes and gardens of the same period. The (included) breakfast was the best I've ever had, compared to similar experiences - a fruit parfait, light croissant, and savory omelet, with coffee or tea. We sat with other guests (by choice) and enjoyed the conversation.

Amazing and grand house from 1860. The house alone is worth seeing, and its many antiques and stained glass windows. Breakfast was lavish and delicious despite there being no menu. She just brought things unbidden but they were all good. Fresh fruit parfait, a warm cheesy roll, French toast with more fresh fruit and whipping cream and a sausage. Good coffee filled repeatedly too.

The atmosphere here is awesome, and the building looks amazing, both inside and outside. However, the breakfasts were really disappointing. There was bad communication about what food was available. For example, they served poached eggs without asking if we wanted them, and some people left them untouched. Another breakfast was also very repetitive, with fruits, scones, and toasts with fruits – basically the same thing twice. Just asking about egg choices beforehand would have made a huge difference.
