Holiday Inn Express San Diego South - National City by IHG

Overall okay. The pictures are certainly misleading, the pool is extremely underwhelming.

Difficult to enter when traveling down the road with the hotel on my left. I generally had to go past and do a U-turn to get onto the property.

Hotel is under renovation but was still pleasant. Breakfast was good, there was a fair amount to choose from. I was surprised to see that they are using styrofoam plates. It was nice to have someone come in daily and make the beds and provide fresh towels. Parking was tight and a few times it was difficult to find a spot and we had to wait for someone to pull out. The area around the hotel has a lot of fast food/take out but not many sit down restaurants. Hotel was centrally located with in a 15 min drive to downtown SD, the midway, balboa park, USD and SDSU and the airport.

Entrance and exit is just around a blind curve in the very busy road next to the interstate 805, otherwise the property was excellent condition.

I liked that the property was so conveniently located to shopping and dining establishments. The breakfast was excellent. The refrigerator, microwave oven, and coffee maker in the room were very much appreciated. I did a lot of walking, but appreciated the existence of the on-site exercise room. Last, the ice machine was always functional. I wish all lodging establishments were like this Holiday Inn Express.

I liked that the parking was free. And there was enough parking space. The breakfast provided was very good. The staff was helpful, just not very friendly.

Very clean and organized hotel. My room was very quiet, neat and the staff were very hospitable. They do service breakfast which was fresh and good each morning of my stay. This hotel does have a $100 deposit which is refundable. There is a a very small gym on site and laundry facilities as well.

Property was easy to miss and right on highway with a sharp entrance turn. Not attractive.

The room was mostly clean and comfortable. I did find a few dark hairs in my sheets. (not mine, I'm blonde). There are quite a few places to eat and shop in the area. There was a small continental breakfast in the morning; better than nothing. Overall, a comfortable stay.

Customer service was great but we had to move to another room due to some pests in the room.

Great stay. Very clean. They are in the middle of a remodel but still nice and clean.

Had to check out a day earlier due to the room not being sanitized found bunch of baby roaches in the bathroom along the bedsheets...so disgusted will never come back to this hotel..I am sorry I had to exposed this.

The property was not a 4.5 stars. We booked on this hotel based on the stars but was very disappointing when we got there. The carpet throughout was do dirty. In fairness, the staff are really friendly and nice.

Very clean, spacious with comfortable bed, nicely upgraded shower and sink. The pillows looked fluffy but flatten when laying on them. Clean well kept breakfast area and lobby. Elevators are clean. Plan to atay here next vacation. Vanessa was great

I had read the reviews on this hotel and was a little skeptic because of some of the noise complaints since the hotel is doing room renovations, but, I will admit I was pleasantly surprised. Our check in was quick and painless, and my mom and I were both given rooms on the 2nd floor, with rooms facing the main street. Right away I could tell these rooms had just been renovated. I stayed in a one king room, and the bed was huge, and the room also had a three seater couch, nice! There was a microwave and a small fridge, as well as a personal Keurig coffee maker. The bathroom was clean, with new flooring, and a big walk-in shower, which I was happy not to see a tub/shower combo. And for those who check water pressure like I do, I was very impressed with that too. There is plenty of parking on the upper lot close to the main entrance, as well as in the lower lot of the property. I will say that the noise from the street traffic can be heard, especially large trucks, but, because I am a heavy sleeper this didn't bother me. Also, the hallway can be a bit noisy and you can hear doors around you closing and if people are loud you'll hear that too. Again, heavy sleeper here, so not much of a complaint. This is a hotel I will definitely book again when I'm in the area visiting family this Summer.

An ok hotel but heater blew cool air.

Nice hotel and good location. Breakfast buffet was a plus. The AC was broken in our room so it was really warm in the room.

It was nice and quiet place to stay, the bed was very comfortable and A.C kept our room nice and cold.

Stayed on the 2nd floor, and rooms are newly renovated, which you don't see on the pictures as they have not been updated on the site. New rooms are super clean, with new furnishings, bathrooms have new flooring, with a huge walk-in shower. My standard king room also had a three seater couch, desk area, microwave, small personal fridge, and a Keurig coffee maker. Was very pleasantly surprised. Each morning I did see (and smell) continental breakfast and coffee, which seemed quite popular as the dining area was busy, but in case that's not your thing, there are a couple of Starbucks very close by, as well as other fast food restaurants, and an IHOP.

The hotel staff were friendly, the room was clean and up to date, and the breakfast was hearty. We were able to walk to a restaurant that evening so we didn’t have to move the car once we arrived. Why I had to drop a star was the noise level while we were there. We could hear cars driving down the street, every time the people above us walked it sounded like they were in our room, and not the hotels fault - but there was a loud group in our hallway who kept making noise. Other than the noise level this hotel was great.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff

We only stayed one night and needed a wake up call for 5 am but never received one so we were late leaving the hotel and reaching our destination. Not happy about that!

First, the hotel lobby is being refinished so expect some dirt, noise, objects, and wet floors. Not a big deal. Staff smile checking you in, but give limited help beyond that. Elevators are very dark, almost no lighting in them. Beds are AMAZING. Rooms are pretty and nice. We had two days where we returned from one activity to shower and prepare for the next but we didn’t have water. The first time, we heard it come back on at 5am when water started tapping on the metal plate in the showers. The next day we got it back on at 8pm. Both times they offered no help. Every morning was the same terrible stuff. Limited options. The parking area is tight, and tricky with vehicles trying to go both ways and find parking.

The staff, particularly Liz was wonderful made our stay very comfortable.

Good breakfast choices, clean friendly service. Only is was I called the hotel to ask about parking for upcoming cruise. I was assured I could leave my car for no charge. When I arrived I was told I could not leave my car. Later I was informed I could for 140. I would have stayed at another Holiday Inn had I known this. I felt this was deceptive.

Staff was amazing we visited from vancouver canada and everyone was so welcoming and nice. If we come back to san diego we would stay here again. Excellent service. Thanks for a great stay :)

I must compliment Diego, night clerk, who went above and beyond when I was locked out of my room because the little metal security piece slipped into "locked" when I closed my door. He miraculously made a device to slide into the door and flip the latch. I felt less stupid because of his calm demeanor.

Lots of food options in the area. Lots of parking space.

The room was clean and nice. Unfortunately the windows are thin and you can hear all the traffic noise and we got little sleep. For this reason, I would never stay in this location.

Amazing staff , lots of great places to eat in the area. We stayed here for comicon, great location. Far enough away to not have huge crowds in all the restaurant and only a short drive to convention. 10/10, great stay.

This hotel is terrible; AC was not cooling; it was noisy during the day because of constructions and drilling during renovation. As for breakfast, even the pancake machine is broken. The lady at the front desk is very rude when asked if we can be moved and was told it’s sold out! Just terrible experience. also didn’t even have lotion and handsoap, and when asked, I was told pick up downstairs!

Overall a good stay. We just wish they serve better breakfast options.

Toaster on breakfast room to small , waiting line was like 20 minutes.and is been 10 days and I haven’t got my deposit to my card.

Nice place. Continental breakfast was limited

Overall we were very pleased with our stay at the Holiday Inn. It was going through a renovation at the time, but noise was at a minimum so it wasn't an issue. Breakfast to me was Ok, my wife loved the eggs, she stated the sausage was great the first day but tasted different next day, my sone liked the biscuits and gravy. As a vegan i was disappointed with my choices, it was either dry cereal are bread with PB&J. The bagels were not good and some were old and hard. Fruit was very small apples and oranges that didn't look appetizing. I wish they could get some small plant based milk for cereal but that happens sometimes.Other then the breakfast our stay was pleasurable
