Hotel was very clean. No issues there. It was the parking situation and surprise fees that warranted a lower rating from me. The fee which was parking and some tax was approx $53/day. If I had known this I would not have booked this hotel. On top of that, they also charged my card $100 in incidentals, but did not refund it upon departure. It is supposed to "take a few days". It is off my bill now. Definately feel like the full cost of the hotel was not disclosed by Hotels.com. AND the parking garage was ridiculous. You had to get buzzed in and out and it took 3 conversations to get out one time, and you are required to do a 3-5 point turn to get out of the garage. The spaces are very narrow and require a 3-point turn to get in to them. I drive a prius, so not a large car. Good luck if that's what you're driving.

This is was my 2nd stay. It's a funky, clean hotel. The staff are helpful, friendly. There's a small gym and an outdoor pool. There's easy access the the red line metro. My only negative is the very slow elevator.

This property was nice but the pool was not open. It was advertised as being open when we booked. We chose this property because it had a pool so we were disappointed to find out the pool was not open: additionally, the toilet did not work, we had to open the top to manually flush. The ice room did not have an ice maker. It was an empty room. Overall this property did have nice seating areas in the lobby, the bed was comfortable, the staff was accommodating and check in/out was seamless.

This is a very trendy spot in a great location near the metro and restaurants. The dedicated parking was a plus since we had traveled by car and parking is a nightmare in DC. The room was quite clean and very comfortable. Would definitely stay there again.

Definitely a nice stay. Clean and staff was helpful. Parking was very tight but safe. Nice to have pool and refresh service if requested. Room is clean and comfortable and shower was incredible. Nice facilities. Clients were definitely a younger crowd---college students, etc. They could be a bit loud but overall no complaints. We did not use dining service or bar but it looked like many did and they had repeat customers. Great price point! Clean rooms--nicely renovated! Centrally located. But not an adult weekend get away unless your plan is to sleep and go site seeing or hang out with friends/family who live in DC.

If I could give it 0 stars I would. Palm sized roaches outside right at the entrance, rats scurrying from the cafe outside across my feet, a roach immediately upon entering our room, the room smelled like chlorine and bleach as soon as we walked in and was incredibly humid. I’m from Jersey, I’m used to NYC rats and their audacity but this was on a whole new level. The amenities had no rhyme or reason to them. Website said the bar closes at 12 or 1 am on Friday or Saturday nights and both nights we were there it was closed by 11 and 7 pm respectively. And the pool was closed by 8 pm. So if you don’t plan on staying at the hotel all day to get a chance to catch any of the amenities, don’t even bother booking this property. And the water had absolutely no pressure in the shower. The sink had better water pressure and would splash all over me every time I turned it on, meanwhile the shower trickled out like it had a weak prostate. Further, the Expedia price quoted me at $423 for our weekend stay “including taxes and fees” but when I paid when I got there they charged me $481 claiming “property fees”. The signs outside and on the website say $50 for parking but then they’ll tell you it’s actually $65. So not only was this property feces covered in glitter, they make you pay as if it’s a luxury stay.

My first night I was in a 4 bed dorm room. I reserved a bottle bed and notified the Hotel I would be checking it late because my flight didn’t get in until after 11 pm. I was checked in and went directly to my assigned bed. Being exhausted and not wanting to disturb anyone I went to bed. When I awoke I found I had been sleeping on bloody and filthy sheets! I reported this to the front desk and they didn’t seem concerned at all. It was disgusting! My second night I paid for a king room and did at least have clean bedding. I checked out the following morning. Amenities are basically non-existent. No vending machines, no coffee maker in the king room, no GLASSES are placed in the rooms and you must request a towel for the dorm room. No complimentary coffee or anything available in the morning or anytime for that matter. Was not the most enjoyable stay. I came to support veterans healthcare at the Capitol so I was surprised a hotel so close to the Capitol to be so mediocre. No shuttle service available to and from airport.

The front desk staff has such a bad attitude. We had to go downstairs to get towels at 10:00 pm because we arrived late because of the very long drive. We went back down to ask for rags and with a very rude face the front desk associate said "i gave you what I have". I did see another lady with a towel on the elevator so they may require you to go downstairs for that but I still find that super inconvenient but disregard that complaint if that is what they require for the customers. The worst part was Our AC was set at 69 but it was close to 87 degrees. The AC is probably broke in room 400. It was so incredibly hot. 🙁 So glad to be home to finally get some sleep. My whole family was up all night. It was rough. The facility downstairs was such a nice vibe! The outdoor and indoor seating was great and close to many different stores, shops, and restaurants

I was staying in the 4-bed dorm and they beds are very comfortables! the lighting in the room is limited if you close the blinds ( due to the heat we had to close them) but we had a great view of the Washington monument.

Spent four nights for business. The sheets and towels were clean. The building overall is dated and worn down. Very noisy - you can hear every conversation, door slamming. Didn’t help there was a school group staying there and the screaming, running around the halls and slamming doors was out of control. Had to ask them to quiet down on two separate nights. Definitely more a hostel than hotel. No dresser drawers, no coffee station, no face cloths, no shampoo or conditioner. The reviews I read said this place was great and they would stay again. The location is great. I wouldn’t stay again.

It was very beautiful and comfortable. The downsides were that the air conditioning didn’t work very well, I had to ask the staff in order to get hot water, and there was no microwave. On Expedia it was listed that there was a shared microwave, but in reality there wasn’t one. Still, overall it was very good, and I would like to stay here again.

This hotel was SO COOL! The vibe was incredible in the lobby - secruity round the clock -- space to work and sit and chat and connect and eat and drink. Rooms were clean and the AC was amazing. 10/10 would come back here again!

The rooms are dark, not enough light at all. Wifi is absolutely terrible: corporate laptops cant connect to it due to firewall (never the case with major hotel chains) and even with personal devices, when connected, the speed is awful.

1st, the location is fantastic near Dupont Circle, Kalorama and Adams Morgan. Old bathtub but comfortable to take a bath. Older mid-century building means big room and quiet. Edgy decor, nice bed and dog-friendly!

Save your money. The air-conditioning was out—which was unfortunate and unpleasant—but even beyond that the staff was rude and unhelpful, particularly in light of how miserable the stay already was. There are much better places to stay in DC. Recommend you stay elsewhere!

We had such a great stay at this hotel in DC! From the moment we arrived, Tina made us feel incredibly welcomed. She went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of and gave us all the info we needed about check-out and our stay. The room was super clean, stylish, and had such a cool, modern vibe. The location is amazing too! It's just a short walk from Dupont Circle, with lots of cute restaurants and easy access to the metro. It’s also very close to downtown, which made getting around super convenient. Thanks to Tina and the team for making our trip so enjoyable!

The Generator was a fantastic hotel for our school group! We stayed in the bunk bed rooms and they were perfect for our students. The location was also great and has a very close bus stop that made transportation very easy. The staff was so helpful at the front desk, cafe, and restaurant. I am overall extremely happy with our experience at the Generator and will come back for future school trips!

This was by far, one of, if not the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Most of the front desk staff are rude and brash. Except for the older morning lady. The bar / restaurant staff are very nice and the food was good. The cafe is expensive and only has 1 size for coffee. A measly 12 oz cup for $7. This place reminds you of a European hostel, not an American hotel. I do not recommend this place at all.

I liked that it wasn’t old but more modern. It has potential, but the bright color graffiti design in my room was overstimulating— just my personal preference. The room I saw online wasn’t as overstimulating as my room. 2 stars for staff. They were rude and looked unhappy to be there. Gave me attitude when I asked a question about the restaurant. When I checked in they didn’t give me much info about the hotel such as anmenities included or where things are. Just checked me in and said nothing. And the worker on the cafe was on a phone call the whole time on her cell while taking my order. The mini fridge in my room was broken. Other than that it was clean and fine. I’m just used to good customer service at hotels.

This place is a complete joke. Calling or talking to the staff gets you nowhere—they don’t solve problems, they just deflect. On top of that, the price gouging is unreal. I ended up paying for 4 days here what I could have paid for 7 full days across the street at the Hilton, where they actually honor their deals and treat people fairly. They refuse to honor advertised prices, tack on hidden fees for things you don’t need or want, and then tell you to “call the people who referenced us” instead of taking responsibility. I even watched another guest go through the exact same mess, so this isn’t just bad luck—it’s how they operate. It’s sad this hotel gets recommended. When you finally arrive, you realize everything isn’t what it seems. Next time, my money goes to Hilton.

Enjoyed my stay at Generator Washington. Staff were great, rooms clean, and they provided free towels which is rare for hostels these days. As for any drawbacks, the hostel is just a bit far from a metro station and there isn’t much of interest in the immediate vicinity.

The room was spacious, and the common areas are very hip and nice- lots of places to chill and work. The curtains don't open all the way. No daily housekeeping but they will give you towels if you ask. The restaurant is so-so- i ordered a salad with no cheese, it came with cheese and a very long hair (gross!). The front desk workers are sullen and bad mannered, don't give out information and treat you badly. I suspect they are underpaid because they really seem to hate working there.

The Generator dorm rooms are attractive for the competitive pricing compared to regular hotels in DC. I was impressed with the cleanliness and the functionality of the bunk beds with their little charging station, night light, and curtain. Overall bathroom was clean but small, w/o window, and w/o any "exhaust" air fan. Locks for the bunk storage are not provided. The common area was great for hanging around with a laptop or phone, lots of charging ports. Reception staff was nice. Walkable from DuPont Circle Metro station. I did not like the hours and prices of the bar restaurant and cafe. Cafe closes at 2pm, so you are out of luck for any coffee in the afternoon. Restaurant closes around 9pm, so that fell short in terms of service besides that they charge $4.50 for a can of soda to go. All that while signage says to not be stingy and to not bring outside food and drinks. But the reality is, you have to. Overall, the hard-working Cafe staff was understaffed in the busy morning hours. Bottom line is, that for a 4-person room the price/value ratio remains just so-so IMHO.

The hotel is fun and modern. The staff on reception were friendly and helpful. The rooms had interesting decor and the beds are really soft and comfy. The room has a fridge and hairdryer, no glasses or tea/coffee stuff though. The staff in the restaurant/bar were not welcoming however and overcharged me for my drinks. It also closes at 9pm, so I ended up spending my money at McClellans down the road - very friendly and great selection of drinks!

Every day got better with discoveries such as Pikio cafe right in the lobby area. Negra in a can was the best beer I can remember ever as were the grouper fish tacos. The next day at breakfast was the same thing. Any curveball order the staff was on top of it. I kept changing seats in the luxury designer lobby, terrace and cafe because everywhere to sit was so appealing. The guests and staff all seem dynamic and fun.

I arrived Friday night which is margarita night, and as long as you’re a guest you can drink margaritas for free until 1 am for free. Then the pool opens at nine am and closes at nine pm and that was good because it was extremely hot outside. I felt very safe at the hotel and I loved the fact that the location of the hotel was located near everything.

Overall, the place and the room were great. The coffee shop in the lobby was excellent. Decor was nice and the room was spacious. Never made it to the restaurant during my 3-day stay but it seems like a good spot. My only complaints concerned the bed and the bathroom. The bed was lumpy (hopefully not every room). The tub is rather small and has a curved floor, which made standing in it uncomfortable at times, and the water pressure coupled with the supplied body wash that doesn't lather led to not feeling clean after a day of city exploration. Soap is an easy fix (there's a Walgreens just down the street) but nothing can be done about the poor water pressure. Perhaps not a deal breaker for a single night stay, but for multiple days it might get annoying. Otherwise I enjoyed my time there.

Fun, funky spot. Not luxury, if that’s what you’re looking for. But definitely a great place. Excellent staff, delicious cafe and bar onsite. Just don’t get the room directly above the bar on a Friday night if you plan on sleeping, ha!
