This is not a resort. It's more like a motel with a pool, only on the Kona coast. There's no coffee, certainly no drinks. You can't even buy anything except from a soda machine in the parking garage. The unit was large, and yes it's got an ocean view, but it lacks everything. While we were there the access was changed from magnetic entry keycards to a metal panel touchpad. NOT BACKLIT. You can't even get on an elevator without entering your room number and your code. Coming back from the small beach access requires two entry gates to be unlocked. It felt very prison-like. Overkill security for no reason, I suspect. Staff was very nice, I have no problem with them. But don't be fooled by what you expect to get at this property.

The property it self was nice, great pool area and little beach with nice tables to use. Grills were very nice too. Parking garage was clean and safe. Our code was excessively long that had to be entered every time we want to go to the pool, use the elevator etc. our condo was very tired looking with dated decor, cheap kitchen tools and the lanai furniture was rusted, rotting and moldy. We only had a partial view of the ocean which was too bad. Our kids stayed on the pull out- thank goodness they are young and don’t care that the mattress was terrible. Bedding was poor quality with brown everywhere- carpet, garnet, cabinets, furniture- hardly had a tropical vibe. Worked ok for us as a place to sleep but not the best for what we paid.

When we checked in, we found out we were on the third floor. The elevator was broken. I had just had foot surgery within the last three weeks and had just been hospitalized for a week 10 days prior to our arrival. Third floor without an elevator was not an option. Luanne at the front desk did find us a first floor room with a working elevator. When we got into the room, we found the sleeping arrangements would not accommodate the four of us. They ended up putting us in two rooms for four of the five nights. Originally they were going to charge us for the second room, but then comped us for the second room- we did all have to stay on the third floor, without an elevator, for our last night. Luanne and Sandy were wonderful! Very thankful that they could get my daughter and myself on the first floor room.

We had a great experience with the front desk employees, they were very helpful and knowledgeable. We were a bit frustrated that we did not have advance notice that the pool was under construction until we arrived. We felt safe at Aston, and had some beautiful views. The property was close enough to most things, and easy to find.

The ocean view property we booked was very spacious and comfortable for a party of 4. The view was amazing. It was definitely the highlight of the property. Waking up to the view and being able to just take it all in at anytime of the day was well worth having an ocean view. The pool was very comfortable. It wasn’t too cold or too warm, just perfect. Not to mention that it wasn’t crowded at all times. Customer service at the front desk was excellent. All the workers were very friendly. Check in and check out was very easy and smooth process. Just a couple things that were not great during our stay. One, the elevator wasn’t working for the entire stay. It was a pain to carry our luggage up three floors. The daily back and forth up and down the stairs became so routine it was like a built in workout! The morning we left (after staying there for 6 days), the elevator started working so we didn’t have to carry our luggage down. Second, the parking could be a challenge as far as getting your vehicle out easily. We had a 4 door jeep wrangler and it was easy to park in the garage but some spots were hard to directly get out. In some spots you had to maneuver and do many steps to get out so be mindful of where you park. Bigger vehicles are better off parking in the outside stalls to avoid getting stuck.

Room/condo was run down. Needed new paint and a thorough cleaning. Both tub/shower combos had noticeable mold. Dated and cheap furnishings. Does not live up to being one of the most expensive places in the area. The saving grace was the proximity to the ocean.

Renting a 40-year-old property can be hit or miss, depending on the owner's upkeep. Ours was outdated. True, it was waterfront as promised, but everything else was subpar. The cleanliness was the main issue; finding long black hairs everywhere made it uncomfortable. I'm not one to complain, but it's important for people to realize that Hawaii today is both old and expensive. It's been 25 years since my last visit, and nothing has changed except for a new coat of paint on the same old structures.

There was a huge deposit that was a total surprise when we got to the hotel. The room was dirty and had bottles from previous renters under the beds. For all intents and purposes this is a hotel and they would not bring us new towels or take out the trash and said that was our responsibility since we had a washer and extra bags in the room.

We stayed there for 2 weeks. Our room is in need of major cosmetic repairs!!!! Grouting was rusty and stained. Rug was stained! Housekeeper did as little as possible. Didn’t clean the glass table tops nor anything on the lanai. I MUST say we had a million dollar view!!!!

Location is great, near the center of Kona. Room is spacious with a great view. The king bed is very comfortable. Overall this 2b2b suited our needs very well. Only thing that could use an upgrade is the carpet but everything else is great.

Third time we have stayed here. Overall very nice. This was the worst condo of the three we stayed in. Grounds are well taken care of. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Beautiful ocean views from lanai and condo. Very clean and safe place to stay. Very close to all activities so very convenient. I had to fix both toilets on the condo as they were not flushing correctly. One toilet in second bathroom was leaking and continued to run periodically. The ceiling fan in the living room was possessed. It would just start to shake and rattle at any time. The cleaning staff apparently knew about this because when we came into the condo the first time it was unplugged. Then each time that cleaned the condo the ceiling fan was the only one turned off. The floor lamp next to the main bed was broken and not functioning. The socket with the light bulb was perpendicular to the lamp. Cable tv did not work properly. Screen would just go black when changing channels. Reset cable box several times to get to work properly. These problems were minor and did not affect enjoyment of the vacation. Just a nuisance. We enjoyed the vacation and would stay here again. Probably ask for different condo.

I was not aware but each of the units at the hotel are individually owned. So some have updated furniture and some dont. Overall i gave it a 4 star due to the room conditions. The view from the hotel is a 5 star. U cannot get any closer to the waves then this hotel. We enjoyed sitting in our balcony and enjoying the view and the souds of the waves hitting the rock. Also due to the direction of the hotel sunset is not in not in direct view . But u can go to the joining property and get an amazing view of the sunset.

Construction was going on which I understand is necessary for maintenance but is a bummer on your vacation. The worst was no running water after 9am with no notification by the property. I spoke with front desk and got apologies but what should be given is a discount. We couldn't even shower prior to our flight home due to no running water. Also, loud sawing and banging starting at 9am. Then eco lab spraying chemicals for 2 days of our stay. Such a disappointment. Otherwise Location, room view excellent.

Overall we like this property. We have stayed here before. This time we had a problem with check-in. The check-in time is 4 pm and the check in clerk was cranky and would not let us check in earlier. We had to wait by the pool for over two hours before a kinder clerk let us check in just before 4 pm and I could see that the room had been ready for some time. I asked that they call us when the room was ready, but that did not happen. My family had a very long flight and were very tired. This was not a good situation or considerate.

We had a wonderful stay at the Aston Kona By The Sea! Nearly all of the rooms have beautiful balconies with amazing views of the water. We had a spacious unit with a full size refrigerator and freezer, and with air conditioning. We texted management about something that needed their housekeeping attention, and they tried to make it right immediately. Since we were on our way out, though, they refunded us the housekeeping fee for the slight inconvenience, which I was impressed with. The location is a short drive from the busy Kailua-Kona area where there are more dining options and activities, but they have plenty of parking at the Aston. We chose to use Uber instead of renting a car, which also worked out fine. There is a nice marketplace within walking distance (Ali'i Gardens Marketplace), and the taco food truck was legit! Would definitely go back to this resort again!

Just a lovely apartment - safe, 10 min drive from the town center, pool, beaches were close by and the ocean right behind! Kitchen was well equipped, balcony was beautiful, parking was plenty and mainly it was central to almost everything. We loved everything about the property. We also got pool towels, which was included in the resort fee, and we could take it anywhere and we can return them later.

Our room was beautifully furnished and had a lovely view of the ocean and Kona sunset. The kitchen was great and had all the appliances we needed: toaster, hot water pot, rice cooker, microwave, large refrigerator/freezer, etc. We liked that it was located away from "downtown" Kona so wasn't so busy and crowded. The one thing that would have been nice is a firmer bed (it was rather soft). We would definitely consider staying here again.

The place was not hotel, it was more like condominium. The Expedia should not advertise as hotel. The location is quiet but a little far from shopping and restaurants. The building is very old.
