THE ELEVATOR: I was with a Handicapped person, not able to use steps and the ELEVATOR was SLOW on Friday, Sept 13th but COMPLETELY OUT OF ORDER ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 14TH AND 15TH. NOTIFIED FRONT DESK, one clerk said it was the first she had heard but would note it, no sign on the ELEVATOR DOOR indicating it WAS OUT OF ORDER. We had to go out the door to the parking lot, load up in thhe car with wheelchair etc then drive around to the front door to get to the first floor! Then on Sunday the front desk clerk said they couldn't get in touch with maintenance man......just a TERRIBLE HEALTH AND SAFETY FACTOR. If the ELEVATOR would have worked, our stay would have been better but I was fearful.

Great hotel with a nice pool, hot tub, and chill out family area. They are strict on their pool policy though. Only people staying at the hotel can swim or even be in the pool area for that matter. This can be tough when you have family wanting to chill out with you and relax. They make you wear wrist bands.

The hotel had a large, clean room and other pluses, like a good, hot, fresh breakfast every morning and a weekend security guard. The elevator needs a lot of attention though. It took a very long time to arrive on the floors and didn't work one night during our stay. As a person suffering from Multiple Sclerosis, climbing stairs to the 3rd floor was awful. Also, loved that the hotel was pet-friendly. However, my husband and I were both locked out on separate nights when our key cards did not scan for entry to door 6 when we let our dog out for the night. We had to rely on other guests to let us in. All in all, we would stay again.

Condensation dripping in pool area concerning for mold. Extremely humid in pool area. We had our rehearsal dinner there 22 years ago and it was not like this. Most likely will stay somewhere else in future. Not enough staff at restaurant.

Hotel was terrific, one of the cleanest I've ever been to. Beds comfy, great breakfast, indoor pool, sauna, pool table and ping pong. My boys and I had a great time. Friendly staff, good location. Could not ask for a better hotel. Highly recommend!

Nice hotel. The front desk was amazing and helpful. The swimming pool area is overrun in the evening. Kids are everywhere and parents not making them mind their manners. So if you want to enjoy the pool or hot tub good luck. You will probably have kids all over you and trying to jump into the hot tub. Breakfast was great but needed to be open a bit longer. Great options and lots of sitting room. Vending machines are a scam. They will double charge you so avoid the vending machines in this hotel. Rooms were nice and quiet.

First night seemed to go well. Hotel was dated but seemed clean enough. Second night the pull out sofa was full of crawling ants. My 8 year old refused to sleep in it. Couldn’t switch rooms because they were fully booked so opted for a roll away. Next morning front desk says they can’t do anything for a credit since we booked through a third party app 🙃 just a heads up.

Bathrooms weren’t very clean and there was some food on the floor in our room. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed the large pool area with ping pong and pool tables. Lots of seating in the pool area as well.

I booked and paid for a room with 2 Queen Beds. When we arrived, we got a room with 2 double beds and were told the hotel doesn’t even have Queen beds. The TV didn’t work. I picked up the room phone to call the front desk and it didn’t work either. We found someone’s pube in the tub and pre on the back of the toilet. I paid for 3 nights but left and went to another hotel. No refund because I booked through Expedia. Spend a little more and book elsewhere!

The room was extremely clean, bed was comfortable, linens ok. Our extended family stayed in the same hotel, and we enjoyed using the pool area. The adjoining pizza restaurant was convenient, too. Parking and location were perfect. The front desk staff showed interest and concern for our comfort. Overall, a very good experience.

Stayed for 3 nights. Friendly staff but had to call for towels and have my garbage changed. No cleaning service for us the entire stay but where knocking on the door at 9AM the day of checkout Bathroom had drain flies so had to kill several of those each day.

The pool area is great (9ft deep at one end!) and unique (under an attrium) but the chlorine smell in the rooms around that area is STRONG. I would have preferred that to what our other room smelled like -- the pungent odor of it being a formerly smoking room. Because the hotel is very popular and was very busy we did not request a different room as I am not sure there would have been any alternatives that just smelled neutral (like nothing) or "fresh" or whatever. Generally everything was fine for sleeping, showering and the like. Staff were nice and the morning buffet was okay. I would stay there again but I would try to maybe get a different room away from both the pool and smoking odors next time.

Check in was very easy. I suggest requesting a room away from the pool of you prefer quiet. Breakfast was average in taste. The eggs and sausage were good and hot but the French toast was not very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the cleaning staff was great as well. Our room was dated, but comfortable and clean. I would stay here again.

The pool area was very nice, liked the variety of games. Our room was clean and beds very comfortable. Really liked the shower head! Hotel close to the mall and botanical gardens. Wish there were recycling bins for plastic bottles and soda cans though. Would definitely come back.

The room was roomy, quiet, clean, and conveniently located. The staff were friendly and very helpful.They greeted us each time that we returned and asked if they could be of assistance. The beds were comfortable and the room temperature was just right. The breakfast buffet was a lovely start to each day. The price was reasonable.

Breakfast was awesome. My kids really appreciated how deep the pool was. Hot tub was good too. Beds were comfortable. Only fault was how thin the walls were. We were next to the outside door and the elevator and it was so loud all day and night. So many barking dogs, screaming kids and drunks bellowing.

Rooms are poorly insulated, people going in and out of rooms next to ours often sounded like they were opening our door. Heard hallway noise like we had our door open. Very strong bleach smell, had a headache all night from it. Room was clean. Check in gal seemed frustrated and wasn’t very friendly, may have just been having a bad day, large groups of baseball kids checking in.

The property itself was good. Room was clean, comfortable bed, fair price. However, it was very poor on service. We had towels for three yet we booked for four. We called to the front desk for towels and no towels were ever delivered. Before bed we called down asking for breakfast hours and were told open until 10. We arrived in the breakfast area at 9 and all food was removed, only to find out it actually ended at 9. Upon checking with the front desk for options, a discount, voucher for breakfast somewhere else, etc. no apology was offered, only that we were mistaken and it is a complimentary breakfast so no value could be offered back to us. Very frustrating and so sad to see this type of service these days. 30 years ago it would be unheard of to not have them apologizing and doing what they could to make it right. To top it off, as we were walking away from the front desk she had the audacity to offer a sarcastic Merry Christmas. There was not an ounce of true Merry Christmas in her statement, apparently feeling that we should be “grateful” for the circumstances. Just so, so sad. When will leadership in these businesses insist on customer service again as a priority?

Great hotel. It was busy and yet the staff handled their guests quickly and efficiently. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The bed was great! Nice and clean bathroom and room. It was quiet even with several families with kids and dogs. Breakfast varied a little every morning. The staff was friendly and informative. We’d stay here next time we are in the area.

NEVER GO BACK; ELEVATOR OUT OF SERVICE AND RUDE CLERK LADY, JUST A BAD EXPERIENCE,MANAGER INCOMPETENT TO HELP We arrived by 2 pm I explain the clerk lady who nearly can stand up straight ( she needs to retire.) we came for a wedding starting at 3pm we call ahead for1hour early checking she denied our request claiming check in is a 3pm we understand until the lady in front of us got her room right away I ask again the lady and the manager just give me any available room she raise her voice I just told you not available rooms when the parking lot was half empty she just keep interrupt me when I was speaking. I got forced to change in the parking lot in my car at the end, they gave me a room was not for me. The TV keep saying welcome Eileen. My name is not Eileen., tv control never work They gave me a room on the fourth floor knowing the elevator is not working. Free breakfast was cold and horrendous salty potatoes only few links they took away the muffins before my wife try one, no eggs and counters messy cereals all over. Just advice for the administration try to accommodate and understand your customers every customer needs different requests.

My check-in time was supposed to be 3:00 pm. Room was not ready when I arrived at 4:45 pm. Then the room was not clean when I walked into it. The toilet seat was left up and there was visible urine on the toilet. Clearly had not been cleaned. There was also popcorn on the floor near the bed. Nothing felt clean or wiped. There were weird tapping, scurrying noises in our ceiling all night, pretty sure it was some kind of rodents. This hotel charges $200 per night and it is so trashy and needs updating in a BAD way! RIP OFF. Please go elsewhere. Go to Hampton Inn Dubuque or Fairfield. Do not go to the Best Western on Dodge St. I will never stay here again.

The gal at check-in was not very friendly and I seemed like an inconvenience to her. I went to the attached restaurant/bar to get dinner and it was not a good experience. I had to find the hostess to be seated, was seated, waited for about 15 minutes, nobody ever came to wait on me, I watched 4 employees standing in a circle chatting the entire time, I got up to ask about service and was told I should go to the bar as they were not staffed to wait on me. Huh? I was too tired to drive somewhere else as I had been driving all day. The gal who waited me at the bar was very pleasant and apologized for the prior experience.

Staff was absolutely amazing and accommodating. Shout out to Crystal at the front desk. We were there for a baseball tournament and we weren’t able to check in in between games and we wanted to make sure they wouldn’t give up our rooms before we checked in. Crystal assured me we were good and when we checked, and she remembered exactly who I was and started pulling up our reservation. She was very helpful and thank her and all the staff for everything running smoothly with how many of us teams were there! Will stay here again!

Our stay at the Best Western was perfect! The staff was very friendly, the rooms were spacious and clean, the beds were extremely comfortable, and it is centrally located. The breakfast bar had real breakfast food....eggs, bacon/sausage, potatoes. My family was very pleased with the everything!

The hotel was in a great location. It was about a 5 minute drive to downtown Dubuque. The breakfast was very good. The pancakes were amazing (not your typical continental breakfast pancakes). The hotel itself was a bit outdated, which is why I gave it 4 stars.

First of all breakfast starts at 7am which is to late. There were no pancakes or waffles that you could make. One type of begels which was rasin. Had to ask for cream cheese and they were clueless where it was. First we were told they were out of cream cheese. Breads were white or wheat. Asked help to clean the microwave. Told to clean plate and door. Three days later inside door still not cleaned. Inside plate was dirty again and seems not checked daily. The wall next to microwave had food splattered. Was still on when we left. There was a Asian lady who was busy cleaning and clearing tables and we only saw a few days. She was busy checking everything. They should have her train employees. I never saw covers for coffee cups while she was not there. They do not clean rooms everyday. We had to ask for toilet paper and clean towels. Since we didn't need the room cleaned every day it wasn't a big deal. When we saw the cart, we asked for towels and toilet paper. The front desk staff was friendly. The housekeeping staff was also friendly. The pool could get noisy on the weekends with kids screaming and running around. No toys or items allowed in the pool even though I saw some ball throwing and floating devices. It would be nice if floatation device's were allowed. There was a kids party while we were there. The kids were running and screaming. The weekends seemed to have the most kids. The hot tub was nice since the pool was cold.

Very nice property. We could tell a few parts were dated, but they've kept it very clean and nice. Loved the common area with the pool. Very clean, smelled nice. Breakfast was excellent!! Front desk gentleman was great-he remembered our names at checkout and gave us a wonderful history of Dubuque. Old Chicago is attached and open late!! Very nice, we would stay again.

Nice hotel with restaurant on site. It was close to the highway in a nice area. The room was clean and comfortable breakfast was fine as it was a standard buffet. I would stay there again

Everything was great but the breakfast. Very boring and limited offerings. At $275/night they could at least offer bagels and cream cheese and peanut butter for the toast. No waffle or pancake makers either. The staff were very pleasant.

We had a jacuzzi room. It was clean, a comfortable bed, jacuzzi was huge and worked well. Breakfast was delicious with lots of options. Staff very accommodating. Only complaint is our room was pool side and not well insulated. You could hear kids playing in pool until after 11pm.

Property was well maintained and clean. Room was clean, bed was comfortable and the bathroom was much larger than the norm with plenty of hot water. Enjoyed a very good pizza at the attached Old Chicago restaurant for dinner and an excellent breakfast the following morning. Recommend this property with no reservation (pun intended) ;-)
