Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites - Dubuque West by IHG

Room was dirty, bathroom certainly wasn’t cleaned. Entire floor had an odor of smoke, which they put a small purifier in the hallway after we called the front desk. The hot tub was so cloudy and dirty it wasn’t usable. Water fountain had rust in it. Was told they couldn’t do anything for us since we cooked through expedia.

Stayed in a king suite. The room itself wasnt bad except for right outside the window the pillar from the building was right there so that was our view. I didntbreally expect a great view though, i mean it was Dubuque, Iowa. Bathtub in my suite had standing water when using shower. Went down to use hot tub while my son swam and hot tub was out of order. Elevator was out of date on their inspections by months. The elevator floor was filthy with food and trash that a vacuum could have solved. The front desk staff clearly did not want to be there. The pancakes at breakfast were not done- the machine was not working properly. Had to ask breakfast staff to fill bacon, eggs, juice machine more then once while several guests were waiting and asking them to bring out more food as well. Pull out couch in my suite was so uncomfortable that my son got no good rest at all after being up all day for a wedding and then at a reception that night. We asked for more towels and staff said we dont have extra. Wow!!! Only good thing i have to say about my stay was location to wedding and reception i was there for. Will not return. I do not recommend! A multimillion dollar company such as Holiday Inn and this is how you run business?! Not a good look Holiday Inn, not a good look.

The hotel staff were very kind and informative about the property. They were helpful when needed. They were the best thing about the property. The property does show its age. The walls were scuffed up and tiles had cracks with grout missing. This was in open areas and our room. The vending are on second floor is missing; there’s a sign hung indicating they are doing work. I’m not sure how long the sign’s been there. Our pillows were soft and comfortable but the beds dipped in the middle so I seemed to roll into the middle of the bed, closing in on the wife as she slept. The pool and whirlpool worked. Pool was very cold but this didn’t seem to bother the kids. Pool towels were limited/missing at times and we had to ask the front desk for towels when they were gone. Food was disappointing for a continental. People were throwing it out. The pancakes had a zest (maybe lemon?) and were rubber-like in texture. The sweet buns were good. Biscuits for the biscuits and gravy were dry/crumbly. Not terrible since the gravy would sog them up but the gravy was so thick they didn’t get soggy to make up for the extra dryness. We stayed one night, unexpectedly. We weren’t too picky on the selection at the time based on the reviews on Expedia. However the reviews were seemed hyped up after our experience at the property. Is it good for families? Yes, yes it is. It has a pool/whirlpool and a breakfast. Is it the best? Not really.

We are loyal IHG travelers. This property did not meet the standards of most IHG. Carpet in room stained. Thick layer of dust at carpet edge by baseboards. Elevator carpet badly stained. Rooms are a bit outdated and desperately need new flooring and facelift.

Ability to get a workout in and pool access.

The hotel itself and our room was very clean. We were extremely disappointed in the pool and hot tub. I booked this hotel so we could enjoy both and unfortunately we could not. The hot tub had a pungent odor coming from it. The pool was so cold my kids could not enjoy it. There were no towels available either. I was disappointed.

I read reviews but doesn't give place justice. It clean, comfortable beds, the reviews about breakfast is right is good for hotels.Great breakfast. The pool was warm and refreshing. Does need to be cleaned a little more often but refreshing. Hot tub was great. It was not hot last day out of 3 day stay. But amazing the first two days. People say the hotel needs to be updated. I will take older, with comfortable beds, and clean atmosphere every time. Great location, check the bar across the street. Amazing bartender and fun bar.

The hot tub was filthy. It caused my travel companion to get both an eye and ear infection that required a doctor's visit after we returned home. Also, the hot tub bleached out both of our swimming suits so they were no longer useable. Hotel was fine except the hot tub.

Kind of shabby and beat up, but it was fairly inexpensive. Rooms were clean. The elevator carpet was so gross--wouldn't have wanted to go barefoot on it.

I require cleanliness, quietness, and safety. This facility was dated, dirty, loose bathroom tiles, sour/urine-smelling bathroom (like a bad nursing home), dirty and loose carpets, and was noisy late late into the night. If asked, "would I send a friend here"? The answer is no. Oh and don't forget the woman at the desk telling a coworker she had covid. Really? Come to work with covid?

Clean in all respects

The room was clean, breakfast good, quiet location. The hotel is old and needs a refresh: cracked tile floors, mold around the shower.

We stay at a lot of hotels in our travels and we came in late from the concert and the hotel hallways, elevators and vending area was not clean as I would expect. If course the price was increased for the concert but your facility was not the experience I felt justified the price. I am giving you 2 stars. Try to do better your a Holiday Inn.

The property is in need of some remodeling/updating and attention to maintenance on some key things. When we checked into our room, while there was a nice note on the bed stating that the room had been "refreshed", it was clear that the floor needed to be vacuumed and tables dusted. The first night, our toilet would not flush. I called the front desk to report it, using the phone in the room; however, the front desk attendant couldn't hear me, so I had to walk down to the front desk to report it. She promptly came up to see what was going on and attempt to fix it. While it did flush after that, we had to hold the handle down to get it to flush and sometimes that didn't work - so we would wait a few hours and try again. The 2nd day we were there, the elevator from the 2nd floor wasn't working (I believe they said it was because of the keys/buttons "sticking"), so we had to take the steps to get downstairs. However, we could use the elevator to go up. We were informed that a maintenance technician would be onsite that day (Friday, 03.29) to take a look at it. While I won't likely stay at this location again, I will commend the front desk woman on the evening of Thursday, 03.28. She is a fantastic representation for the company: very customer focused, pleasant, congenial, an overall great asset this company.

We booked a non-smoking 2 queen suite for the long weekend. Staff was very nice when we arrived. However, our room was a different story. As soon as we walked in the room, the stench of smoke was awful. I immediately contacted the front desk. They could not offer another room that was the same. The only offer they could make was to spray the room with a deodorizer. (This lasted about 5 min). Although we were supposed to stay three nights, we chose to leave early (with no refund) due to the stench of the room. When asked if we could get a refund on the room, I was told since I booked through Hotels.com, I would have to go through them. There were also a few other items in the room that were very undesirable. For example, a dirty pair of socks found in the drawer of the desk, stains on the couch, and mildew growing near the shower on the floor in the bathroom. I was also turned off at the stains easily noticeable on the bench in the lobby area. I have attached pictures of a few of these items. I would have to say that I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. If I am going to pay $239 dollars a night, I would expect to at least get what I booked (a non-smoking room), and for the space to be clean. I am very disappointed, as I have always thought Holiday Inn's were quality places to stay. We travel a lot with my son's baseball team, so unfortunately this experience will be remembered and shared.

I had long strands of hair in the tub and on the soap and shampoo dispensers.

Rooms have thin walls. Heard everything all night. Very dated rooms, really old tv with 12 channels

Good location, breakfast ok, thermostat in several rooms difficult to stay adjusted. Rooms, carpet, bathrooms are very worn and nothing looks updated. No extra blankets or pillows in room.

The rooms could use a redo! The mattress in the pullout needs replaced as they are probably older than me and covered in stains. The TVs could also be upgraded. The shower was amazing however and I appreciated having toiletries in the shower. The staff is top notch. The room we booked wasn’t available when we arrived but the front desk made sure we got into a room that worked for us. Would stay here again soley based on the staff! Great restaurant and shopping options all around.

The bathroom had tile floor that was cracked, some of the tiles were loose. The door to the room would lock properly. Had to pull on the door hard to get it to latch otherwise you could push the door open.

Room in need of repairs. Paint peeling due to water damage. Curtains full of holes. Many items in breakfast were missing…milk was even sour (on but not past expiration).

The front desk gal was very nice. The hotel was so quiet. They had a pancake machine ! The beds were very comfortable.

The overall hotel was good. The TV’s are approximately 19 inch. My lap top almost had a bigger screen. The showers are temp controlled which I did not like.

Paper thin walls. Next door cursing/fighting couple. Sink partially clogged, slow to drain, one single tissue/kleenex and took 2 requests over 2 days to replenish. Zero maid service so no replacement in-room coffee/tea. Ridiculous pricing for the poorest Holiday Inn Express we have ever stayed in since the 1970’s!!! DO NOT STAY HERE!

We keep coming back because the staff. The staff so nice and was able to check in early. They would always answer questions. Polite and respectful. Felt safe and no issues.

I had a 2-night reservation. Drove 2.5 hours, arrived in town and stopped for dinner at a local restaurant. At 5:50 pm I received a call from the hotel, telling me they were overbooked and didn't have a room for me and my wife. The hotel rep did say they located a room in another local hotel for me. When I arrived at the alternate hotel, I was told they were full for the next night. Later, I was told I could stay the 2nd night too. It was just okay and cost me an extra $172 for the 2 nights. If the Holiday Inn had contacted me sooner, I could've have looked for an alternate place days earlier. Won't ever make a reservation with them again. How can I trust that I'll actually have a room when I arrive?

Had a wedding in Dubuque. Arrived at the hotel at 2:20 to see if our room was available and it was not. We had made reservations 5 months before. Multiple people from our party were already checked in.1 individual had called the night before to get a room and was given 1 and checked in already. Came back at 4:30 after the wedding and room was still not ready. Shortly after that we checked in and went to the room and housekeeping was still cleaning it. They were pleasant and efficient trying hard to get the room cleaned. We travel frequently and were disappointed about the delays. Other than that the breakfast was good and the room was fine.

Last night we needed more garbage bags. Night manager was not to be found. Message at front desk said he was assisting another guest. Text said to use lobby phone (dial “0”) to call manager, rang at empty front desk. We improvised

Kudos to staff member Amanda who was such a people person, calling everyone beautiful and wouldn’t that make your day already? But she kept the buffet refilled each time a new wave of people came to eat. Also kudos to Richard who brought back memories of my 6th grade teacher who was from Hungary. I was having difficulties falling asleep so I grabbed one beer and realized we didn’t have an opener, so I asked Richard and he had a multi tool that he trusted to let me use and I brought it back right away. Everyone was willing to assist and was so very friendly.

The room wasn’t ready when we arrived. Staff was good but there were several other people upset. We were told to come back in an hour and, when we did, a room still wasn’t available. Otherwise the experience was very good.

The hotel did not have enough staff. The front desk was empty and you had to call the hotel to alert to any need. For two days there were no bath towels. Had to use hand towels for showering. Hotel staff said that they did not have anyone to do laundry. This could be a good value hotel but it needs much more qualified management.

Definitely time for a complete renovation. The room has a bit of an off putting odor that I’m quite sure is due to the aged carpet in the room. Seems that it was probably renovated 8 to 10 years ago and is in dire need of this once again. Location is fine and staff is exceptional. Tim at the front desk was fantastic at our check-in.

We were there for the Dubuque County Fair and it's supposed to be quite popular but most staff hadn't gone or didn't care to go which was a bit disappointing and discouraging to hear. Check in was a bit slow. We had to get the attention of the staff since they were just chatting in the back. Rooms were older. The property needs alot of updates. Regular channels, no ability for Netflix, Youtube, etc. Breakfast was the same for the 3 days we stayed - fruit, watered-down scrambled eggs, egg omelets, sausage, biscuits and gravy (bland), pancake maker (not the best tasting, better to invest in a waffle maker), cinnabons (taste store bought and heated up), juice. Only 1 elevator but it wasn't busy so we had no issues getting up and down - only 3 floors. Pool, fitness room, and hot tub were as expected. We appreciated a shower in the pool are to rinse off before going back to our rooms. Amanda, the housekeeping supervisor, was in charge of refilling breakfast items and offered our kids an icee which was very much appreciated and a nice ending to our stay. Please thank her for us.

Room was nice and clean. Breakfast was really good except watered down OJ and biscuit gravy was bland. Eggs and sausage fantastic! Couldnt get early checkin but it was understandable that hotel was very busy for field of dreams concert. 12 noon check-out is nice.

I had to get new cards 4 times in a 12 hour period. The breakfast was all picked over. They opened up early (which was nice. There was the national farm toy show in dyersville), but they didn’t keep up with food. We came down at 9 (it’s open 7-10), and there was no milk, bacon). So we couldn’t even eat cereal. Cinnamon rolls were gone. There was no microwave in the breakfast area.
