Super 8 by Wyndham Newton

The area has a lot of activity with unsafe people. Very old security system that seems very unreliable. There is a sign telling local people they need to have an extra deposit placed and the room inspected to get it back for what I assume is drug related activity. That is not a continental breakfast. The coffee was putrid and came from a small coffeemaker. Even the apple juice had floaters. The only warm thing was gravy from a can paired with rock hard biscuits. Our room’s peephole had paper shoved into it and our room smelled bad. The sheets were covered with lint like particles and pieces of something. Definitely not worth the money.

The air in the hallways didn’t work or they didn’t have it turned on. The smoke detector in the room had no battery, The floor in the room looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed and the sheets and blankets had a bunch of stains on them. We checked into the room and left to go to our event and got back really late. The air in our room worked just barely enough to keep it somewhat cool but still hot. When we realized we didn’t have enough towels we went to the front desk and no one was there. We tried calling the front desk several times and ringing the bell and no one would answer. Finally someone did answer but wouldn’t say anything. Just sat the phone down. I could hear them typing and doing other stuff but literally ignoring me. Then they hung the phone back up. The next morning when I complained about the cleaninless of the room, the service etc she told me that due to storms the phone didn’t work. However, it didn't storm that morning till 5 am. She also told me that we should have asked to switch rooms but the hotel was sold out and they were never at the desk to even ask! This place isn’t safe and it smells musty and like mildew. The health dept needs to check this place out and the front desk clerk told me that it just needed a deep cleaning.

Restaurant and bar that is advertised has been closed for years. Neighborhood is one of the roughest ones I’ve ever been in. Even the waffle house down the street was DoorDash only.

One thing missing from the property is an indoor heated pool. I had the impression that Super 8 had a pool, but I was sadly mistaken. Unfortunately though, for my next stay in Newton, I will be booking a hotel with a pool.

This is not a Super 8 I recommend. It's an extremely old and run down property. Rat traps in the hallways, cigarette burns on the comforters and pillow cases, it doesn't look like the foyer's been swept in years. The bed was like sleeping in a bowl and the shower head was extremely weak. Do yourself a favor find somewhere else if you need to stay in this area.

There was an old truck on the property that looked like somebody had been living in it, and had all kinds of junk and cigarette packs and everything in it. It seems very shady.

Convenient location, limited parking

This had to be the worst Super 8 I have ever stayed in. The building and surrounding area was unkept and depressing. Although, the front desk clerk was very pleasant, this would be the only positive of this hotel. Room smelled like it had just conducted a "Dog Show" in it, and bedding smelled extremely musty. Laundry facilities were not working, and outer side door was covered with cigarette butts. Would never stay here again.

So ... first of all ... it's a Super 8. I would call it more or a Sort of Super 5. The, who I assume to be the owners, were very nice and made us feel comfortable at check-in. I believe they have really good intentions, but have a property that is a bit tired. Overall the room was clean and updated. The side door on the outside of the building remained unlocked during our stay and there was old furniture in the hallways I would assume this property will only get better with time since the remodel seems to still be going on. That being said, it's a Super 8, so I believe this property met our expectations and if we are ever in the area and need a quick overnight accommodation, we would probably stay again.

Awful! Worst place i have ever been to. We could not stay in such a dirty place. Mold on the walls, floor was wet and smelled so we had them move us to different room and that one was worse with hair and smelled even worse. We left and went somewhere else.

The person at the front desk, who I think is the manager or owner had very bad bedside manners. Not helpful. Poor English. Didn’t offer any information. I had to ask how to get to the room even. The room: bed sheets were clean, but cover had stains. Side of bed falling off, dirty towel on back of the bathroom door, somebody else’s food left in the fridge. Pieces of trash and a hair pin, hair and dirty/ fuzz all over the carpets. They didn’t even try to vacuum. Bathroom floors, counter & tub covered in hair and dust. Small Hair shavings from numerous stays. Bath tub also had hairs. We stayed to even get basic breakfast. It was shut down at 9a. I’ve never seen one shut down so early, my fault, but I assumed they would keep it open until 10a. I realize this is a very cheap hotel and I stay at these often while traveling, but I don’t know how this place has the ratings it has. It should be 1-2/5, not 7/10 or 3/5. My basic need is safety and clean … AT LEAST CLEAN FOR BASIC SANITATION.

Filled out the online check-in, but I was still asked for all the same information when getting the key so I have no idea what the purpose is of the online check-in. After getting the key I headed to the room and found the door open. The room smelled like urine, the carpet was not vacuumed and the bathroom was filthy. There was hair on the bathroom walls and grime on the tub. Will not stay here again or any other super 8.

I am sorry but we had dirty room no toilet paper feces in her toilet and when we got home we discovered that we had bedbugs we had bites on her arms. The desk clerk was very nice and very helpful but the rooms are not clean and not what and not acceptable we had garbage everywhere food in the fridge in the microwave. We were not happy with us today would not recommend it to anyone and would not definitely return but the clerk at the desk was very helpful and she was upset when we told her and said she would talk to her people about it again she was very helpful her and very nice and very upset with her team, but we would not stay there again. I would not recommend it to anyone thank you.

The room was very dirty. Don't worry we won't be staying there again. The carpet was gross, the bathroom for sticky, hair all along the baseboards, sheets had a stain, bloody booger on the wall next to bed. Food along the outside of the microwave. Hair in the tub. Over all just gross,gross,gross.

A/C didn't work. Carpet is filthy. Bathroom walls and shower curtain full of mold and mildew. Staff was asked to clean the room. They didn't the refrigerator made so much noise I had to unplug it and the microwave was nasty with food from 1999. Breakfast food containers have never been washed. Just a filthy, nasty, dirty hotel.

The bed and pillows were comfortable and it was nice to have a refrigerator. The odor of cleaning supplies or something was strong. And the sink drain was slow, toilet was loose and leaking at the bottom and the shower curtain was loose.

Room was spacious. Parking convenient. Restaurants within walking distance. Desk staff very accommodating.

Definitely one of the worst places my family and I’ve ever stayed at! The air conditioning was not working, tried adjusting the setting from cool/auto/60 degree to cool/high fan/60 but still was too hot in the room. Talked to front desk, they came up to switch it back to cool/auto/60 and said to keep the window open for 10-15 mins to get the hot air out and the room would start cooling down. Definitely didn’t work. We just ended up having the window open with whatever cool air from the ac unit we can get! The place was dirty, from the water marks on the mirror, crumbs on the floor, to the nasty pee stains behind the toilet, to the pee smelling shower curtains. Then the no battery within the fire alarm unit and only 1 towel for a two queen bed room. To top it off, the breakfast was cereal, toast, waffles, and muffins which was all stale. Will not be returning or recommending! Customer service was horrible as well!!

Not the worst hotel I have stayed in. Toilet looked to have been used before we checked in and left soiled. Room had an odd smell we could not figure out. Half the tv channels did not work. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Staff was rarely at the front desk. I knew it would was not checking into a high class establishment but i have stayed in hotels half the cost that were far better maintained.

Property is a bit worn.

Property was a step above the usual Super 8. But having said that why would you put me in a room with a broken TV and not say anything upfront? How else are you cutting corners?

Room had holes in the wall, towel rack was falling off the wall, carpet peeling up near the bed, AC would not cool the room down, missing the TV remote, phone in the room did not work. Service at the front desk was not helpful and the building smelled dirty. Would not stay there again.

The shower head was bad in #218

Tv reception not so good. Stations kept going in and out and it wasn't weather related. Looked out the window which was dirty and the shrubs were covering the satellites. Bathroom fixtures need updated and the tub was chipped. It was clean though . ⁰Biscuits and gravy good.

Dirty, old, smelled. Stains on sheets. Stayed 3 days and never gave clean towells and had to ask. Did not speak good english. Do not stay.

I had stayed successfully with this property before as a way of taking a break from my personal apartment that I rent, which is making me sick with smoke and fumes. The hotel took one look at me and charged me $100 more when I had paid fully for the room. These charges were not advertised. I knew nothing about them. I have filed a complaint with the Iowa Board of Civil Rights because I believe this was Age or Religious discrimination. The Manager was aggressive and awful to me. It made me upset and sick (I had just been sick too), and Paramedics had to come. My blood pressure was almost to stroke and the Paramedics were very concerned. This hotel made multiple excuses about why they did this, but I believe it is because they don't want a certain type (group) of person there, even though the person has done nothing wrong I believe this practice is evil to target older people like me. Beware of this hotel.

Fast check in, nice staff. Clean room

When checking in we were charged a deposit that we were not aware of when we checked out we called to see about deposit which they said would be returned in 7 days which we did not have the money to return home due to that but we did finally get it back when we asked the front desk for extra towels

set the room up for a relative to stay and prepaid. They asked for a separate deposit for incidentals, which I understand, booked the room for one night, then extended two more nights- they captured another 100 dollars a second time, THEN charged my card an additional 57 dollars. When I called and questioned the charge, they denied it and hung up on me, then proceeded to be belligerent to my relative upon checkout.

Our room was dirty especially the floor. Ask for it to be vacuumed but was not. Breakfast was a crockpot of reheated sausage gravy with limited other items. Only reason we stayed is because there were no other rooms available in the surrounding area.

Room was good. the free breakfast was a joke. Almost all machines were broken. Only food available was cereal. 3 yogurt cups and some bread for toast. The jelly was old also.

Room was nice and clean, bed was actually comfortable, but breakfast was very few options. All that was available were waffles that came out almost burnt, toast, a couple containers of yogurt, and some stale cereal.

we chose this place for the free breakfast that they said was open until 9:00 am. we planned to just grab a yogurt and OK right before 9. The guy was cleaning the last breakfast item a few minutes before 9 and he said it closed at 9...It takes more than s couple minutes to shut down and clean the full breakfast area, so I don't know at what time he started shutting down, but super disappointed because they lied about their timings!!! If breakfast closes at 9, then they should not start shutting down before 9!!!

We had little service, no towels in our room, almost nothing for breakfast all three days, and did not get any help this either. Dining area was not kept up or have anything but a waffle one day. Other days the waffle batter was not at all normal as it was discolored and like off color water. the bed was good as well as the parking. We paid the bill, but it was not worth the $199.93.

The young man at the check-in desk was very kind and polite. The older man and everyone else was VERY unfriendly and had no people skills. They could not even answer simple questions politely. The breakfast was awful. The milk for the cereal was spoiled, and the older man begrudgingly replaced it. The biscuits were harder than a rock, obviously days old. The little packs of creamer for the coffee were spoiled. The coffee was TERRIBLE!

For Breakfast you got Cold sausage and gravy. Ended up in microwave. Juice wasnt working. No Bagles. No eggs. Area is kind of trashy. You can tell when trash has been picked up and cleaned. No one has picked up in a long time. Asked for handica room on first floor. Ended up on 2nd floor without a handicap room. Employees were nice.
