I liked the friendliness of the staff. It would have been nice if the fitness center had an exercise bike.

The Pool and Hot tub where closed said, it would be 6 months because they are waiting on parts this wasnt disclosed on the wensite also the rooms smelled of mole we had to have the wikdow open and this is a picturce of the ceiling it was absolutely disgusting still wating on refund from the manager havent seen anything yet

When we arrived after driving 4 hours from home in traffic, we were told that the pool and hot tub were out of service. I paid $229 a night so that my Non-Verbal, epileptic, autistic daughter could swim because it calms her and makes her happy. I could’ve chose another hotel but ALL my other experiences with Residence Inn Marriotts had been awesome. This was the worst one yet. I took pictures etc… to make a complaint on a business day.

A bit of a challenge to find. But, overall a pleasant experience (stayed an extra night). Nice property. Tasty breakfast with great assortment. Very helpful and friendly staff! Small but adequate exercise room.

I have stayed a many residence inns over the years. This one was far below the standards I expect. There were stain on the floor on my room, my daughters’ room, my brother’s room and my sister’s room. My room had the air conditioner on when we arrived, it was in the 30’s F outside. The wall paper was starting to peel. The cushions on the couch were deformed from use. The jets on the hot tub didn’t work. The fitness room felt cramped, was hot. The breakfast was very limited. There was no decaf the first morning. The Entertainment system on the cable is old, and looks like something from the late 2000’s. While I have been a regular Marriott loyalty member, this is a hotel I will not return too. I stay there when we are visiting our family in the area.

Service was great , olny came there for pool and hot tube, and they where closed!!! Nothing was mentioned in the booking very disappointed

Service was pretty good. However, we did call in advance and reserve a pack and play for our child and the worker gave it away before we got there. Needed to run out late at night to buy one. Place was kind of falling apart. A lot of construction and stuff. Found a nail on the floor in the hallway. Pool was ice cold kids couldn't use it. I did really like the Tesla charger and staff were all nice. There were a lot of kids running down the halls and staff wouldn't do anything about it. So some good and bad. Just a lot going on and the stay wasn't very relaxing.

Stay would have been great except for a few hiccups. There were dried up stains on couch, lamp shade and carpet. The room was clean but maybe some things need to be pulled and thrown away if stains can’t get up. They were not small either, very noticeable. The staff did not answer the phone when I called down to report kids/teens running the hall for about 30 minutes and they kept hitting my room door while me and my kids were trying to sleep. I yelled and eventually they stopped. The pool seemed a bit cloudy and unclean with things floating in it. There was no whirlpool. Some of the dishes were stained and the pots and pans were super cheap and started to burn. Everything else was fine. I will definitely try it again.

When we arrived, the room was not turned over. Beds were unmade, garbage was full, etc. We were given another room and the shampoo bottle was empty. Front desk did not refill. No towels in the pool room so we used our room towels and asked the front desk for two towels which they did not have. There were ants in the bathroom, the room was dusty, and in the morning they were out of orange juice. I will not be visiting this hotel again.

The carpet in my room was wet. Not damp. But wet. The entire room smelled musty and damp. Also, the trash in the kitchenette had not been dumped from the previous occupant and was overflowing. When I went back to the front desk to tell them about the wet carpet, the front desk attendant, Andrew went to look at the room then came back and told me that the carpet was wet because it had just been steam cleaned. I asked for a different room and was told there were none, so my options were to leave the hotel and hope to find another room on short notice or keep the room with the wet carpet. I asked if someone could come empty the trash as well, and was told they would. No one ever did. I ended up taking out the trash myself. I discovered later that evening that the a/c unit in the room was leaking, and dripping onto the carpet. That was why the carpet was soaked. The line Andrew gave me about steam cleaning the carpet was a lie. I told Andrew about the leaking a/c unit the next morning when I saw him. No one at the hotel ever came to check it out, repair it or offer to switch rooms or try to mitigate the inconveniences. Pretty disappointing stay overall.

Floors were sticky, dishes in the dishwasher. dusty.

Hotel was very terrible. Room was very dirty, eating table was ready to fall apart, bed covers and blankets with stains and dog hairs. Sofe bed with dog hairs. Carpet witb stains. Can feel springs on sofa bed. Pool was very little with too much chlorine

Bathroom tile cracked everywhere. Tiles were loose grout was missing. Stains on the couch everywhere. Pull out couch had debris everywhere on it. EVERYTHING WAS STICKY!!!! I was reluctant to take off my socks and walk on the carpet. Bed was 10 years too old just springs no comfort. Tv remote had only the channel up and down buttons working. Peeling sitting chairs that flaked off on your hand with slightest touch.

Hotel is in a state of disrepair. Not worth what they are charging. Strong odor caused me to have a terrible headache. We were initially checked in to an uncleaned room. Second room we were put in had dirty dishes, stains, curtains were torn, and the shower had no warm water. Worst hotel experience I’ve ever had.

Dirty Bathroom. Some liquid sticky stuff was stained on bathroom door that I have to clean it myself.

Check in created animosity that didn’t need to happen. The gentleman working the front desk was friendly but quite clueless. He claims he had no way of knowing if rooms were clean or dirty and several people with reservations were sent to dirty rooms before us. Whatever they clean the hard floors with leaves a thick slippery film. For the price it was fine and the location is very convenient. I’d probably stay here again.

This was by far the most rundown Marriott hotel that I have stayed ever in. I have stayed in all brands from Fairfield (great value) to JW across the country. My fist clue was that the hallway to my room smelled very musty. In the room (Room 202) I could feel every spring in the mattress, although the bedding was fine. The sofa was simply to be avoided. I wouldn't take shoes off to walk on the carpet. On a positive note, the lobby staff were very nice and friendly. I give them a 10. This hotel, based on my experience at numerous Marriott brand hotels, should not bear your flag. I had two colleagues with me on the stay and their assessment would be the same. Nice people, very poor stay. I should have taken pictures, but did not.

The room felt neglected. My let out couch mattress was dirty. I didn't have any sheets for my let out couch. My TV sound did not work. My bathroom was dirty as well.

We got to the hotel 2 hours after check-in and our room was not ready. They said to give them a few minutes and it would be ready. 30 minutes later they asked us if they could put us in two separate rooms rather than the two bedroom room we had reserved and paid for. Rooms were clean but had a cracked sink, the cover that went over the furnace was off the wall, and were very noisy. The contential breakfast was subpar at best and the coffee had grounds in it.

Stay was fine. Hotel was pretty clean. Andrew at the front desk was very attentive to our requests. Guests were nice; we couldn't hear them in our room. A few things I'd like to see improved: * AC was loud in the bedroom and at least 2 nights (of our 4 night stay) I had to turn it off in order to sleep * You can't control the AC/ Heat in the gym and it was fairly warm upon entry - which made for a really heated work out

Room was cold, no matter how high we set the thermostat, furniture was worn & needed replacing, refrigerator had a lot of dents in it. Price of room was too high considering all of that.

I was excited to go back to this hotel seeing they housed us when my brother passed away but upon arrival and entering my room I noticed that there are several things I already wrong there was no door on the bedroom which made it not a one bedroom apartment room then we removed to another room which only had one TV because the other was ripped from the wall never fixed or replaced the garbage disposal did not work therefore the sink stopped up easily the couches or extra bed was very small and uncomfortable with a 3-inch spring mattress that was very old not very satisfied on my second trip

Room was large and clean

For starters, the bed was extremely uncomfortable. After traveling all you want is to rest and relax . Nope not here. The bathroom was so dirty we cleaned the toilet seat with Clorox wipes we brought. The water temperature didn’t get above lukewarm. Only one TV worked and the movie rental channel didn’t work and when we called about it the front desk said there was no such thing it had been disabled a while ago. Obviously the staff doesn’t check on their own systems, because it was on there room TVs. This place is not on my list to revisit ever.

Room (studio with queen and sofa bed) was spacious for our party of 3 for a one-night stay. But not ready for us when we checked in at 7:30 pm. Had to request linens and bed pillows for the sofa bed, linens were promptly provided, but we had to make do with throw pillows for the sofa bed, as the bed pillows never came. Breakfast food was good, lots of choices. Room was quiet, had a great nights sleep.

Desiree and other staff we encountered were excellent. The computer system was down and they were unable to check people in. They also lost their manager suddenly and were all working very hard to make sure all customers were cared for despite the major challenges. They were able to coordinate with other hotels in the area to accommodate guests they were unable to check in and they offered my very hungry and tired children a drink and snack during our wait. They ended up being able to get us into our originally booked room and they provided enough towels and blankets for us to all get showered and comfortable after a very long day of traveling and hiking. We were disappointed the pool and hot tub were not open since that was a big reason we booked this property for the kids, but the staff and room made this a pleasant stay despite that. I would definitely stay in this hotel again and this experience gave me confidence that Marriott is committed to making things right.

The staff was super friendly and helpful! We needed extra bedding for the pull out couch and they were very accommodating. Everyone was all smiles whenever we saw staff. The bed was comfortable and it was nice a quiet while we were there. The breakfast was also great! The only negative thing was it’s definitely outdated (carpeting reds to be replaced and the blackout shade was ripped needing to be replaced) and the hallways smelled slightly of cigarette smoke. However , we all felt they were doing the very best with what they have in front of them!

I was astonished by their lack of customer service skills. This was my first time at a Marriott and it will be my last. I booked and paid for a room and they gave it to another guest that wanted to stay another night because “he was a platinum member”. I was lucky to find a Hilton a few towns over to stay in last minute. The manager Denise actually left right after giving my room away and told the new girl, she had only been there four days, to take care of it basically. She obviously had no idea what to do because she had just started her very first ever hotel job 3 days prior. Complete lack of training, she was however very polite and also admitted this was a terrible error. Horrible inconvenience. When I called back for a refund when the manager, Denise, returned the following day, she was angry I did not stay in a downgraded room ( that would not have accommodated enough room for myself and children. She did not want to provide a refund and was VERY rude. I will never recommend a Marriott hotel. Especially this specific one. If you can, just stay away from Marriott all together.

We traveled 3 hours to Stay with family. We Went to check in and were told no room was available.

Robin at the front desk went above and beyond. She knew we were here for a funeral and she showed such care and concern. She is definitely management material.

Old and worn. Needs total updating. Worst Residence Inn I’ve stayed at. Front desk clerk initially told us he didn’t have any rooms available but after showing our confirmation blamed his manager for overbooking and mid-management.

It was in a rundown area. The doors locked at 6pm with a security officer monitoring the facility. Yes I felt safe with him present but unsafe with the fact that they needed that kind of protection. Lots of long term renters. Animals and smoker. The carpet in our room was dirty and sticky. The health department closed down the hot tub and the pool was dirty.

We do not travel very often. So when we do, we like a nice place to stay. The Residence Inn By Marriott here in Merrillville is the best choice we have ever made when it comes to hotels. We loved our room and I loved the outdoor patio that was close so I could sit outside. Every staff member was amazing…knowledgeable, friendly and easy to talk to. The breakfast was just what is should be, many choices and very tasty. I know I won’t remember everybody’s name. We were there M,T, and W Sept 18th, 19, and 20th. I believe Antwone check us in, very nice. Both of the cooks were very friendly. And so was Reggie! Oh yes, the carpet cleaning company team was also very sweet. The 2nd floor(?)smelled awesome when they were done. All and all I give our stay with you a10 plus!!!!

It was a decent place overall. Conveniently near shopping and not too far from Chicago. Used the small kitchenette for breakfast than the complimentary breakast. Has a small pool by the front desk and laundry on 2nd floor. It costs like $3 in quarters to wash and dry a load of laundry. There’s a fire pit outside that is neat. The staff were friendly and willing to assist whenever I needed help.

Our main reason for staying here (5 times this year) is because there is an Electric Vehicle charging station within walking distance.

As someone who travels often for business and family, I'd like to offer my review: I intend to provide constructive feedback on my recent stay. While the property boasts spacious suites with kitchens, perfect for families, its current state falls short of expectations. The surrounding vacant lots and lack of nearby amenities are significant drawbacks. Our check-in experience was pleasant, thanks to the friendly front desk staff. However, the night staff seemed less accommodating and more focused on socializing. The hallways were clean, but the elevator required attention. Our room had several issues, including broken curtains ripped not In working order and dirty, a missing cabinet drawer, and signs of a major leak. Although the tub and toilet appeared clean and new, the room had visible dirt, dust, and grimy . The carpets were neglected, and the cleaning practices lacked attention to detail. We used Lysol wipes to disinfect the room, and the phone was not working properly. The pillows were uncomfortable lumpy and flat. To improve the overall experience, I suggest using consistent lighting throughout the units and addressing the aforementioned issues. With proper management, this property could be a good place and offer great stay! Breakfast has great possibilities, but staff seem overwhelmed, affecting their ability to maintain cleanliness, refill items, and clean tables, ultimately leading to unfriendly, unhappy staff.

Hot tub wasn’t working and there wasn’t a continental breakfast so would call before staying if those are perks you are looking for. Staff were super friendly and the room was clean though.

The only complaint is the breakfast was not good.

My stay at Residence Inn was great! I loved the breakfast! I will definitely come again!
