Econo Lodge Black Hills

Decided to stay because it was a cheap option. Walking in to the hotel it looked fine. The elevator had no lights, there were bugs in our room including roaches, and the pool was so cold that it was unbearable. Do not recommend unless you really just need a very affordable place to sleep.

We found a dirty sock between the bed and the wall. This was helpful as the peephole was all hole, no peep and we were able to stuff the sock into the hole so people couldn't see in. There was also a broken mirror, a weird sticky spot on the floor, and it smelled weird. Oh, the pool? It's only open until 9pm and it doesn't open til 11am (after you have to be checked out) so good luck using it.

Service desk lady was nice and friendly ,hot tub was broke ,pool was cold water , all ice machines were broke . Tv was broke , the door was hard to open ,and went to the restroom during the night, turned on light and cockroaches run cross the floor. No pictures , I say one thing pictures are deceiving

Pool was cold, hot tub was not working and had bugs in it and there was NO LIGHT in the elevator. A light went out in our room, and no one came to check our rooms the whole time (no service). Breakfast was fine, and front desk was nice. Seemed busy all the time?

Conveniently located, and very friendly staff. Hot tub was chilly, and the slide in the pool area looked like it had a lot of deferred maintenance. Common hallways could use fresh paint and carpets cleaned. The room was clean and comfortable.

First off, they charge $5 a night extra if you’ve booked thru a third party! What’s the point of booking on line? The place is worn down! Noise! Pool was supposed to close at 9, didn’t! Kids screaming and running around! Had someone knocked on our door at midnight! People running around in room above ours. Breakfast was a joke! Pot holes in parking lot big enough to do damage to any car!

The water in the pool was ice cold. Breakfast was disappointing, not enough selections.

The hotel is pretty run down, the hot tub is broken, the slide is incredibly slow and the pool is so cold it turns the kids lips blue.

The ceiling in the bathroom was falling in. The pool was dirt brown. The beds were uncomfortable and I found hairs in them. Bathroom was so gross I wouldn’t even use it. There was a plastic bag covering the smoke detector. 0/10 DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!

When we walked in the lobby was set up nice. But once we got to our room it was all over. The smell in our room was soo overwhelming we had to open the window so we wouldn’t get sick. That’s when we realized the lock on the window was broken. Going into the bathroom we were hit with the smell of urine. The shower rod was broken and looked to be held by electrical tape. There was an area of mold on the ceiling that later on we noticed when the upstairs residents used the shower water would leak down from that area onto our toilet. The bathroom door was broken on the lower half and held together with screws. We had to call down for a plunger before we could even use the toilet. Which they didn’t answer. Had to go down to the front desk, they then gave me the plunger and told me to bring it back. Anytime I tried to call down no one ever answered. The TV remote didn’t work either when we came in. They handed us a new remote and told us the instructions were in the box on how to set up. We couldn’t watch anything except the weather channel as every other channel was constantly cutting out. The pool looked nice until I tried it and realized there was no chlorine in the pool or hot tub and felt slimy. When getting into the hot tub I realized there was no covers on any of the jets so the water just shot right up. Didn’t even bother with the slide as the platform on top looked like it was starting to disconnect from the wall.

The room floor was dirty, not even swapped, bath tub and surrounding were not clean. I found a bed bug under the pillow!!! I had complained to the person by the motel desk. After short conversation he gave me a card to the next room which supposed to be in better shape. Unfortunately the 2nd room was pretty much at the same condition (not swept floor, blurred towels) I decided to leave that place immediately and I made a second reservation at different location. Do not recommend that property. Cleanliness was terrible!

BEDBUGS, MOLD AND COCHROACHES IN BOTH ROOMS! DO NOT STAY HERE! With the mold, cochrach and bathtub that would not drain when taking a shower and leaving you standing in at least 6 inches of water, I tried to get a refund for the second night and was going to go somewhere else. I was told I could not get a refund but could get a new room. We had noticed bites on my husband but wasn't sure what from until we found bed bugs crawling in the bed with us in the new room. Went to the front desk and was told we could get a new room. We shook all our stuff out and left to go to a new hotel. She only offered a new room, UNEXEPPTABLE!

The room was disgusting , we had what looked like poop smeared on our curtain, and on a pillow case, the night stand was extremely sticky and dirty, there was dirt all over around the nightstand. One of our lights also didnt work.

Dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed.

Dirty, moldy (black mold) the entire area above the shower, doors do not shut all the way, bugs running around on floors and huge daddy longlegs in the bathroom. Stunk so bad had to by tree air freshners to breathe. Never NEVER again!

Filthy, stinking, broken down, rude. We left after the 2nd room was just as disgusting as the first. Fur, hair all over beds, hair balls backing up in the shower, broken bed, broken furniture, dusty, sticky floors, bathroom was gross, dead bugs, dust everywhere. We refused to stay there and take "something" home with us!

First room we got given after booking a single queen was a double queen room right next to the front desk. Right off the bat the toilet wasn’t flushed and there was brown gunk on the sink I wiped off. Then I found someone’s used hair rubber bands on the floor and a bag of takis with crumbs all over the floor. The next thing I noticed was hairs in the bed on the sheets and the corner of the room was carelessly splattered with sheet rock from a ceiling repair, so much so that it was on the curtains and lamps, as well as the unplugged phone I found tucked away in a drawer, as if the staff was trying to hide the shame of such a gross hotel room. Oh and the bathtub was black. I asked for a different room which the clerk obliged.The second room we got was a single queen room 2 doors down which appeared to be fine, until we lifted the sheets and found mold and crusty gunk in the middle of the bed. After this we promptly left and got a room somewhere else.

Blood stains on shower curtain, yellow stained towels, sticky residue all over the cabinet and headboard, MOUSE POOP behind end table, dirt on pillow. The room was gross. We went to the pool area and the hot tub wasn’t working and the pool is a nasty color and the floors/stairs for the water slide were very gross. Bandaids on stairs. The elevator wasn’t working properly and it was scary. There was a light fixture above the front entrance that broke and was hanging down. Every other person in the hotel was also complaining about the conditions everywhere we went. We would have left if we were allowed a refund. Do NOT come here.

The beds weren’t very comfortable and definitely needs cleaning on the air conditioner.

Highly recommend you stay clear of this hotel! I had booked 3 rooms for the night. In one of the rooms the lights would not work. In another, the lights were on when we walked in and room was still dirty. The other room had a hole in the door that looked to be from a big knife getting stabbed into it, no towels, and garbage still in the garbage cans (feminine products). The hotel pictures online showed clean rooms with a great pool. The pool was closed due to maintenance issues and nowhere did it state the pool was out of order when booking online. There were people just sitting out in the hallways and made you feel not safe. Choose a different hotel!!!

I appreciated the pet-friendly room! Probably the main thing I did not like was that the air conditioner did not cool the room at all/ did not blow cold air -- kinda miserable. The outlets on the night stand did not work. It was fine, but would not be my choice of stay next time.

The doors are paper thin. We could hear everyone is the rooms around us and in the hallway.

Good: the room was fairly clean and a decent size. Bad: firstly the room was quite dark, not much lighting. There wasn’t many options for breakfast, on the first morning there were no bread and the waffle machine did not have the correct top to pour it out. So I only opted for coffee (though no sugar). Finally when I returned from a long day (approximately 6pm) my key card was not working. No one was at reception. I called the phone that’s there (three times) but no one answered. I waited 15minutes for someone to finally come.

Shower rod nearly falling off. When we asked an employee to call the next-door neighbor to turn down the blaring TV so my wife and grandchildren could sleep at 11PM, they told us to knock on the neighbor's door ourselves. Not fun to do but I did it to get some sleep. The walls and connecting doors are not soundproof.

Holy Hell! Prepaid and reserved a room while driving across the country... After a 13 hour drive they could not fulfill my reservation; since it was labor day weekend there were no other options and after I called to 27 other hotels(all sold out). So my pregnant fiance and I slept on an air matress next to a cornfield. Also Hotels.com failed us as well; before this whole Expedia "One Key" Merger joke the service I recieved for being a platinum member for booking over 40x times this year was great. When I tried to get refund the expedia agent said she couldn't contact the hotel and they would send an email... and THATS IT! I've spent over $15,000 on your application over three years and you have lost me as a customer

Never cleaned room all week Tried to charge a fee prior to checking in after booking was complete thru Expedia. Breakfast sub standard

When checking in I was charged for a new reservation, when I already had a reservation. She charged me twice and when she realized the mistake she made me contact hotels.com to fix the problem while I was out at dinner. Hotels.com text message system was great and easy to fix the double charge. But the whole thing could have been avoided if the clerk at the Econo lodge would have just asked or looked at her reservations instead of just assuming I was just a walk in. Also having to call a number to get someone to the front desk to check in would decrease the confusion the clerk had

Booked 2 nites, tried calling to inform going to be kate, called 4x (fr Canada) NO ANSWER!!!They lied about refund for 1 nite. Was so tried fr driving all nite, bk'd another rm, got charged another $50 deposit, again was told would b credited bk, 5 DAYS LATER STILL NO CREDIT, Rm had a funky smell & kids were noisey & running in hallway. Not a gd stay fir my 1st visit to the States!

The room wasn't anything great. The problem is the extra charges this hotel added: two more times the pet charge for the one dog I had and paid for at their rate initially; plus an extra day charge at the hotel's rate - after I checked out that morning in-person. Do you have someone I can talk to about taking this hotel off your list? After a month of phone calls and emails, the staff at this hotel still will not reimburse me for the extra charges.

Horrible experience. The staff was unhelpful and double charged me. When I told them immediately they argued even while I was literally showing them my credit card statement on my phone. All the exits were sealed shut and labeled “out of order” except the main door which is a massive fire hazard.

My recent stay at the Econo Lodge Black Hills, Rapid City from August 18, 2025 to August 22, 2025 with my family. We stayed for four nights, and we also paid an additional daily charge for our puppy. However, during the entire stay, our room was never cleaned or serviced by housekeeping. On the first day housekeeping was missed, I informed the front desk while requesting clean towels. Unfortunately, no housekeeping was provided for the remainder of our stay. We also had to collect our own towels from the front desk and carry our own garbage to the large bin near the main floor exit door. On the third day, my husband personally saw housekeeping in the hallway cleaning the room before ours. He asked them directly to clean our room. However, when we returned around 7:00 pm, our room had still not been cleaned. Additionally, when I asked the front desk for shampoo, the staff told me there was none available in the supply bin and only provided two bars of soap — no shampoo was ever supplied. Given that we were paying full room rates plus additional pet fees, this complete lack of service and basic amenities was both unacceptable and deeply disappointing. It falls well below the standard we expect from the Choice Hotels brand.

Rooms weren’t ready at 6:30pm

I liked that it was better than a tent and had good water pressure in the shower. Seemed like a safe area.

Very handy to airport and van was convenient

It was easy to get to the sites we wanted to see. Lots of restaurants near by.

The Odor of Curry, and the Pool was very noticeable in the rooms, There was homeless in the parking lot, and the building across the parking lot. Check-in took a very long time considering, and this group will charge a "Destination fee" for booking anyway else besides calling them directly.

I stayed here back in 2021 and it was really nice but coming back it has gone down hill, homeless people sitting outside around the building, the pool was dirty and freezing cold. The bedding and towels were stained up and fraying edges I think the owners live on site because the thick smell of oriental food filled the hallways which sometimes smelled nice but sometimes not they also charge 5$ a night if you’ve booked through a third party like this site so keep that in mind I guess my biggest complaint it could look cleaner maybe some fresh paint in some places. The breakfast was also kind of a joke, it was just cold cereal and yogurt. The WiFi was fast but I have a feeling it was because not a lot of people were staying there. It is in the quiet part of town which was very nice I didn’t have to hear cars honking or anything, cheaper and cleaner place would probably recommend sonesta over this property. Sonesta has a proper breakfast everymorning but no pool

The property is in a run down part of town with unused buildings that had boarded up windows. There were loud parties going on all through the night. The swimming pool was ice cold. The beds were so "firm" it felt like sleeping on plywood. When we left in the morning, there was a creepy guy that opened his door to watch my wife, our two daughters and I leave. He was only wearing a towel and was rubbing his chest while he watched us. There was nothing comfortable about our stay. If we had known we would have spent the money and stayed somewhere else.

While we were checking in another guest came in asking for security footage from her car being broken into.

We were on a long round trip. There was no breakfast, 4 slices of white bread. No pastries, no coffee, no one even looking in to see what was needed. When I went to the front desk in frustration the clerk said the manager did not order enough. This place hasn't hsd a vacuum prrsent in the halls and steps and entrance for weeks. Never again will I stay at this motel in Rapid City. Disgusting

The waterslide was fun but the hot tub was way too hot. The "hot breakfast" was really just waffles so the line to wait stayed pretty long and the garbage was overflowing. Perhaps extending the breakfast hours would alleviate some of these issues.

Staff unfriendly and rude. Room dirty, not vacuumed. Sheets had holes in them. Room had an unpleasant odor. Freezer completely closed with ice, unable to but anything in it. Shower curtain was old and dirt smudge marks. Bath tub dirty ring around it. Towels dingy, folded but not sure if they were clean. Breakfast area a big mess with food laying around on the counter, tables and the floor. Only a few quantities of items, food not restocked, better get there early if you want food. Trash over flowing, spilling into exit, north door. North door broke, unable to be secured. Anyone could walk in without a key, hotel very unsafe. Pool closed, looks like it has not been cleaned or chemicals put in it for years. Slide unsafe, rust bolts and stairs. Best to skip the place!!

kids running on hallways after 11 PM and yelling. Breakfast food was gone by 8 am, last day on Sept 4th there was NONE absolutely nothing to choose from not even a lousy coffee. No juice from day one. Why advertise breakfast if there is NONE served, banana and orange was gone by 7;30 one morning .next time I pay double to stay at a civilized La Quinta. NEVER AGAIN staying at EconoDump ever again.

We stayed 3 nights. The breakfast was always good with sausage, omelets, waffles, etc and fresh juice. The staff was nice. The condition of the hotel was poor. There were some broken windows, old flooring and furniture, and the elevator was scary.

The property is very out dated, rooms were clean but everywhere else was bad. Breakfast was terrible. Would not pay over $100 for a hotel like this and usually don’t.
