I took a trip with the family. I must admit I was hesitant after reading the reviews, however I am glad that we stayed here. It was convenient to walk to stores and restaurants. The beach was right across the street, the staff was polite and accommodating. Our room was clean and our air was cold. The only downside is the property only has 1 elevator so there was usually a wait, and the parking is scarce. Luckily, there is a trolley that runs if you want to see the sights and go to different restaurants.

Don't know how much you expect from an affordable hotel. I think they could charge more for what you get. Room was clean, no bugs and plenty of room to relax when your not out and about oceanside Virginia Beach. 1 block for the beach. Attentive front desk. Cardio based gym with cable machine, laundry on site. The only oddity is the placement of the free breakfast room (particularly in the colder winter months as you might have to go outside to cross the driveway that cuts through the property. Breakfast was meh...but most are.

Check in took very long and they claimed they didn't have my room available. Only for the manager to arrive 15 minutes later and correct the mistake. Floor in the lobby and halls were constantly which can be a hazard. They claim to have a "gym", which is a tiny room with 2 yoga mats and not a single weight to lift. False advertisement.

Room was clean, housekeeping and maintenance were very pleasant. The main problem I have is the hidden fees to park at the Hotel. When I booked, this fact was NOT listed on their site and I did not know about it until after I booked. I called the Hotel and the man at the front desk literally hung up on me! I wanted to cancel my stay but they told me I would have to cancel through Expedia , Expedia refused to help me in any way so we had no choice but to stay there and pay the fees. Won't again.

Overall I liked my stay but there were some things I would change or improve the breakfast they need to bring back the waffle station just to give guests a choice other than eggs and sausage everyday also on Sunday they had no sausage or bacon just eggs and a biscuit and chiped beef gravy?? Also during a heat wave the pool was closed for a day or two if an accident occurs they need to open the pool back up quickly especially during a heat wave.

This property is not cleaned up to standards at all! The towel smelled it seemed rundown and pool and amenities are closed so guest shouldn’t be charged for something they can’t use! What made me made the most is my room has a huge roach in the bed! My house doesn’t even have baby ones and I live in Florida! That is NASTY! When I complained about it the hotel did nothing until I called Expedia about it and they fixed for me! Sir find an exterminator!

The only suggestion I have would be to double check the shower drains during cleaning. I had to unscrew the drain cap to get the water out of my shower and out with it came a HUGE clump of hair. Super yucky. Other than that the staff was nice, the space itself was clean and the area was convenient and walkable.

It was very musty/moldy in the room. The smell was very strong everytime we would walk in the room from doing anything. It was so consistantly damp in the room that the towels we hung up from the beach to dry on the very first day there never got close to being dry in 4 whole days of hanging! Any food/drinks that came in cardboard (12 pack of soda-pop, cereal, nutrition bars...etc.) ripped/fell apart super easy due to being soft because of the dampness.It felt like someone had heavily misted all of it with a sprayer. We noticed that most of the family was sneezing a lot during the stay. I can't help but think mold had something to do with it. The room also was not the cleanest either. Especially the bathroom floor!

The first room I was given was so humid, the walls were sweating and there was mold on the walls, air conditioner unit, lamps shade, etc. The air conditioner did not work! I was given a second room which was much better. Both rooms were pretty big, except the bathrooms.

We were woken up every night by people having parties way after 1am, people coming in after 3am very loud, screaming and music playing very loud in the room next to us for hours after midnight. The connecting room sounded like they were in our room. No soundproofing! Good location and clean.

The rooms were very spacious and from the floor that I was on, which was the 4th floor the ocean was visible. You could see the sun rise and set. There were 7 adults and 2 children with our family group and and we got 2 adjacent rooms. Each room had 2 queen sized beds and a fold out couch bed, which was more than enough room for us. The rooms were beautiful! They look exactly like the pictures on the website. The bathrooms are smaller but clean and tidy with a nice shower head with good water pressure. They also use Dove products and provide hand soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner. The beach is super close and there is so much to do within walking distance.I highly recommend this hotel and we will book our vacation here again.

Upon check-in we should have rec'd a cookie - NEVER got it. Our room description was "ocean view" - there was NO view. We had a view of the 3 huge A/C units and a huge advertisement sign facing Atlantic Avenue. THIS HOTEL IS NOT ON THE BEACH. IT IS ACROSS THE STREET, other hotels blocking all views of the ocean. I interacted with 3 hotel staff members at the front desk and they were just not friendly. At checkout, I told them about my stay AND that we found housekeeping in our room BEFORE we checked out and before check=-out time, an hour prior. It was just one more thing to add to the disappointment of this hotel stay.

Advertised that the rooms were soundproof and most definitely were not and it’s an “oceanfront” hotel but it’s not. One elevator was a hassle especially when it came to checkout time. Not a dealbreaker though still had a great experience overall.

Very clean. Awesome, friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable beds. Spacious room. We did have an issue with very loud occupants ( after 11:30 pm)in the next room, but front desk staff resolved this issue immediately once brought to his attention . Will definitely stay here again!

Over all the hotel stay was decent. The rooms were clean and the janitorial staff were very attentive. The only issue we the front desk. It was rare to find someone actually sitting at the front desk and when i tried to check into the hotel i couldn’t get a hold of anyone in person or on the phone for almost two hours, and when i finally as able to speak with a receptionist they were very rude. Honestly that ruined the experience for me and I don’t think i will be staying at Costa Azul anytime soon.

We were originally supposed to have 6 people and our group turned out to be 5 the couch did not open and if we had had the 6 it would have been awful. The staff was officious and refused our request to watch luggage, extra pillows were treated rudely. We won’t be back

The staff was very rude and unprofessional. When we arrived the lady at the desk ignored us and stated she was busy, while playing on her phone. She took payment for parking and told us we could return around check-in in for our room. We were completely okay with that, when returning the gentleman at the desk insisted we never paid for parking and demanded we show the parking pass. My husband went to the car and retrieved it, and the man still gave us a fit and demanded payment. I had to go the point of pulling up my bank account to prove we had paid. He then hands me 2 cookies for the inconvenience (as if that fixed how we were treated). Overall, the hotel itself was clean and very spacious. The breakfast had a lot of options and my kids loved it.

One block back from the boardwalk and walking distance to peer (<1 mile). Room was just ok, carpet pretty dingy though the room size was surprisingly large, and bathroom could use an upgrade. Breakfast could also use an upgrade. Staff was really nice, and room priced like it should be given location slightly off-strip.

Overall, the hotel was very good. The location was close to the beach; building was clean; rooms were nice. The biggest issue was noise. We were on the side of the building away from the beach and multiple times a night you hear sirens. In addition, the military aircraft is extremely loud and flies overhead multiple times during both day and night.

Food was awful, same bfast daily. Coffee was ok. Funny smell in lobby. Floors constantly wet from pool, no runners— easy to slip. One elevator, long wait times. room was nice/ big. Asked front desk for pool towels, told staff was at lunch and they will restock when they get back. He could have just gone in back and gotten towels. Few min later, i asked cleaning staff and they retrieved towels immed. Do not recommend this hotel. Its one step up from a motel!

We had a fantastic stay for the Sand Soccer tournament. The facility and rooms were clean and well maintained. The beds were comfy and quiet. Breakfast had a variety of options and was well tended. Staff were attentive and friendly. My only complaint, which will hold true for just about any hotel on the beach, is that parking is always a pain. There are several lots available, but at one point it was so busy cars were parking behind other cars. Other than that, I have no other complaints.

Hotel smelled absolutely disgusting. Overpopulated and overcrowded only one elevator that made leaving and entering the hotel take ages. Service was decent but lack of employees around the welcome center when needed. Breakfast “room” which was closet sized and lacked any decent food and was not organized at all and minimal seating.

Hotel overall was fine. Booked three rooms for family and rooms looked like the photos on web for the type of rooms we booked and were mostly clean and comfortable. The hotel website states a full breakfast - but it’s more of a continental type with powdered eggs. No waffle or pancake maker and minimal fruit choice. Enough tables for 10 guests at a time. Only one elevator, so wait times can be annoyingly long. Close to the beach which is nice. Parking is good enough. Hotel reception area had a horrible odor and did seem to be throughout the hotel, just not as strong. The rooms thankfully did not have that odor. Staff is attentive and friendly.
