The Prince Arthur Hotel

Loved our room, pool was cold which kind of sucked but everything else was great.

The check-in took forever, I was the only one there, just incredibly slow, plus a huge "damage deposit" was put on my card. The hotel advertised it had a pool and hot tub, but it was closed for hours for a "private party" so we were unable to use it. On a busy Saturday the pool should be open for all guests since we are paying the the amenities. Room was clean but extremely dated, peeling paint on the walls, very little ventilation in the bathroom. The main elevator was broken and the service elevator was cramped and tiny. Most likely will not return and would not recommend.

The hot tub was good. The sauna wasn't working, though.

Our room had a leak in the ceiling. We were on the 4th out of 5 floors. Font desk acted as they were shocked, but there had been a bucket in the room. They moved our room quickly. Hotel is outdated. Chose this hotel for the hottub. Hot tub not even hooked up, sitting out on pool deck. Not a great stay.

Very disappointed with the elevators not working on a consistent basis. Even the air conditioner in our room was noisy with what sounded like a dry bearing. It took a long time to leave in the morning as there was no working elevator for the public so we were slowly exited via a tiny staff elevator that brought us through a kitchen. The rooms are very much in need of updating.

Nice staff, upset that the pool was out of service. I pick hotels with a pool, have I had known, I would have booked somewhere else. They had 2 shampoos and no conditioner.

Was a nice stay quiet and relaxing. The pool and sauna were nice but the pool ladder was broken with medal sticking out causing a danger to people in the pool we notified staff but was not fixed over the time of our stay.

Everything was great. Room was large and spacious. Staff was great. Location is great for actual dining options that don’t include the same old boring fast food chains and exploring the marina and casino if you’re so inclined. Only real complaint is that hot tub has definitely seen better days…maybe decades ago. It needs to be replaced.

Staff was great, addressed my concerns. There was an attached gym and I exercised on two of the days I was there. Unfortunately I have stayed a few times and the hot tub seems to be always under repair. was not working . The restaurant has a great classic breakfast and overall dining experience was good. The waterfront view was exceptional and the reason why I love this classic historic hotel.

Room was very uncomfortable. Mattress caved in on one bed. AC unit mounted 3 inches away from the bed right at mattress hieight so could not use really. Carpet super dirty - there was a big size portable air drying unit placed in the center of the room as if they were trying to dry it out. Furniture dingy and dirty. Corridors dirty and stinky. The location is surrounded with drug users so many seringues and other garbage around made it unsafe to walk around and even very difficult to safely take my young dog for his needed strolls. Staff was very helful and welcoming.

Where to begin… Walking into the room, the carpets are as sticky as honey. The surface of chairs, tables, and the phone were as sticky (not a little mucky, I mean sticky — you had to wash your hands for 5 minutes after touching anything). Then I opened a drawer to put away some things and a stench of death invaded my nostrils. We noticed a few cockroaches crawling toward that bottom drawer so my guess is that something is decomposing or rotting under that piece of furniture. The ceiling in the washroom I was just a terrain of mold. Other little superficial flaws (like the TV not working), but those are ultimately no big deal in the big picture. It’s the cleanliness element that is horrifying. Ps. I want to underline that the staff is lovely, and I do not blame any of the employees for this. Something bigger needs to be done to get this place cleaned up.

We were very impressed by the reception staff as well as the restaurant staff - they were pleasant and helpful. We were disappointed with the cleanliness of the room. We recognize it is an older hotel and they are working on upgrade. It has a lot of potential but in the meantime it is importantly to keep up thorough vacuuming and keep the windows clean and the area around dusted.

This hotel was built in 1901 or around then, there have been absolutely no upgrades! The rooms were dirty, stained tub and toilet. The beds creaked every time u rolled over, only good thing was the view, unfortunately the windows were so. dirty u could barely see it. Pool and hot tub closed for no reason!

We were very impressed with the breakfast we received. I don’t travel a lot anymore so I by no means am speaking from a vast experience, but I might suggest that this was the best free breakfast I’ve ever experienced in all my travels. The building is old but grand, and perhaps the ownership has plans to make it great again. A couple of deficiencies in our particular room were as follows: 1. The light leaks around the door was way more than normal, which also meant hallway noise was significantly higher. 2. The bathroom vanity had only hot water. The tub was fine. The biggest problem for me was the smell of the room. The hotel is nonsmoking but you would think otherwise when entering our room. I think the carpet in our room was past due for change out, giving the whole room an old unappealing smell. The worst was when we got into our bed was that the bedding reaked of cigarette smoke! I would conclude that the people doing laundry were smoking while folding our sheets. We should have tried to get a different room, but at that point we had no confidence that other rooms were better. I don’t like to be a complainer, but smells are hard to get past. Many other features of the hotel were fine. Parking was good and free, room and overall security was good, check in was good staff was friendly etc. Just need to remodel some rooms and clamp down on the laundry staff. There’s no excuse for clean sheets to smell smoky.

AC did not work. Rooms smelled. Floor was sticky. Dirt everywhere. Needed a good vacuuming.

Room was incredibly small. Bed wasn’t even on the frame, bed frame itself was sticking on on both sides at the foot of the bed which was horrible during the night to remember to move around. Exposed wiring with merriments showing under the baseboard heater, (also found a dried cigarette along the wiring and a dime beside the bed on the floor. Not well cleaned and safety measures should be taken for wiring.

There was bed bugs

Room 220 dirty sock by the fridge , box spring had blood stains !! Staff was friendly & kind . The building itself is cool but needs a little TLC. VERY sketchy people in the lobby this morning & outside

Had to be shown three different rooms before settling on one because the rooms were so dirty and had a very musty smell. Mostly the bedskirts on the beds were filthy. I understand the hotel is old, but it definitely needs to be shut down for a few weeks and have a good cleaning overhaul.

Loved the breakfast. Eggs and sausage with toast and potatoes. I was unhappy that there was no exhaust fan in our bathroom. Also there is laundry but they don’t have change and they don’t sell any laundry soap. So I took dirty clothes home. So sad

Very nice historical building. Security around building is good. We stayed on second floor, did hear the trains, and shouting in hallways. This is our second stay. Carpets in rooms could be cleaned

The room was fabulously extra large, clean and comfortable. We had a great sleep. This hotel was built in 1911, but has been maintained well. The outside of the hotel however felt very sketchy. There was a hotel security guard that was around. Def needed for the area the hotel is located. The train station is out front of the bay, it’s a beautiful scene of the bay there. The restaurant served a decent breakfast. But only two in our party could eat for free with our hotel stay.

The ac unit in the window had to have the blinds open for it to run. Otherwise you close the blinds but get no ac. The surrounding area was sketchy and I didn’t feel super safe. The bed was thin and I could feel the springs in the mattress while I laid on it. The cherry on top was the nearby train that seemed to move my bed that night. Checked out of there as soon as I could the next morning. Beautiful area, a shame locals don’t respect it. Garbage everywhere on the pathways.

Beautiful old building in good condition. Room was small but comfortable. Bathroom had no shower curtain and small sink with no place to put toiletries

Hallway noise filters in as the room door has unsealed edges. The hall light streams through and the noise has no barrier..

The room was a bit too small i loved the lake view of course it was clean i hope next time we get a 3rd floor with lake views

The room was wonderful - very spacious. The bathroom was very clean with lots of hot water.

Could use an updating. Ceiling fans don't seem to work. Air conditioner in bedroom did not work.

Waterfront view was a plus-but the first person I met at the front desk (Marcie) was rude and not helpful-even the next day when I asked about a coffee shop close by-she said there was nothing yet I found a lovely place 2 blocks away. The construction didn’t help but that’s not their fault.

I had to book a stay with short notice. Nicole, at the front desk is awesome. I also had another booking and she gave me tips on how to book and not incur cancellation fees. She also looked up where and when I could book to pay less. All staff are friendly. The area gets active at night but there is 24 hour security. My car was safe and there were no "kusties" hanging around. Instead they go to the Marina Park or cross over bridge.

Looked run down. Tried to call hotel multiple times. No answer after 10 times. Finally answered to immediately put on hold for 10 minutes! Who doesn’t check in with someone after 10 minutes on hold! Tried again hours later but instead of being put on hold, hung up on. Had to call the restaurant because no one was answering the phone at the front desk. Still didn’t hear back from front desk. 185.00 per night not worth it at all. Very disappointed

From the time we walked into the lobby, we were greeted in a wonderful manner. Check-in was great. Friendly and informative receptionist. Room was surprisingly spacious !! We were impressed. Even our pets were comfortable. Breakfast was a full hot meal and their staff were absolutely fabulous. Awesome customer service. We highly recommend the Prince Arthur Hotel.

The staff who served us breakfast were very friendly and very efficient. We were glad we had breakfast at the hotel! When we let the Front Desk know that our microwave was not working, they immediately replaced it with a new microwave.

Very courteous staff, from front desk to security to wait staff in restaurant. Excellent views of the Lake and harbor and Sleeping Giant from our lakeside room. Very clean. The charm of a non-chain edtablishment.

Unannounced visits by employees during the night . Which is unacceptable and not right

Have stayed at this hotel before and appreciate its history and nearness to Lake Superior. The check-in attendant - Ashley - did an amazing job handling a long line checking in on the August long weekend. That said, it was odd that management had her working alone during such a busy time. It took me 45 minutes to check in and that's not common for this hotel.

Really wonderful staff! Very warm, helpful and welcoming. Great view.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Every staff member I came in contact with, whether front desk, cleaning or security, all were genuine, helpful and friendly. For example, I needed to check out at 11, but a zoom meeting overlapped with check out and 3 staff figured out a solution for me quickly and then they followed up after to see how it went. Very personable service especially at front desk. Id return just for the staff experience! They could teach a few things to the higher-end hotels that is for sure.

Hotel was clean and seemed well maintained. Parking lot is NOT very secure and the unsavory characters begging for money and cigarettes were a definite problem. Excellent views, large rooms, lots of homeless beggars.

Enjoyed the views and location

Great location to experience a good amount without having to drive anywhere.

We were approached by drug addicts in parking lot upon our arrival. The hotel was fine but it gave us a bad feeling from the start.

Extremely friendly staff, good location, only steps from Marina park, good breakfast. Free parking was a bonus.

The location of the hotel was fine, but it was dirty, run down, and the main outlet in the bathroom was not working! People were openly smoking crack around the hotel, with lots of litter around. I was glad that I had a travel companion! I do not recommend staying at this hotel!

Overall decent and nice hotel. The people hanging out the hotel weren’t great.

The hotel was ok. We paid for a suite and had a bit of extra space which was nice. We felt nervous leaving our car outside as there were lots of people hanging around overtly taking drugs in the car park. The same people seemed to be staying in the hotel as they were wandering in and out of the property. That said, once we were in our room we didn’t have much of an issue. I wouldn’t feel comfortable taking children into the hotel though due to all of the drug taking etc everywhere.

Given the age of the property, it was in good condition. But, some areas of the room needed painting and there were small amounts of mold in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable. The shower could use some more pressure, but I’m sure that’s a challenge in an older building. My biggest complaint was breakfast. They apparently had just switched over to a new ordering system, so it took 30 minutes to get breakfast and It was cold. I had multiple people try to sell me something in the area outside the motel, but I never felt unsafe.

It was ok. There was no continental breakfast. The hotel restaurant prices were imo a bit high. I didn’t eat there. The room was big. I didn’t take a shower.

Front desk staff was wonderful, very welcoming, surprised us with a complimentary full breakfast voucher included with the room (we thought it was another continental type breakfast like what the chains are offering).

The food was pretty good in the dining room. Great breakfast included. The bed was tiny, but that was all that was available. It was ok. The hotel is very old and beautiful in its time. It could do with a reno- carpets,walls, furniture in the dining room looks almost original (1914). Staff were friendly. There is only 1 elevator for this very big hotel and small at that. It only fits a luggage rack with 2 people. Staff is using it too, so we had to wait 10 minutes to get an elevator to take us down to check out with all our luggage. The view from our room was nice and there is a nice walk along Lake Superior right across from the hotel.

Loved the space and location of the hotel. Breakfast was amazing at the restaraunt! Did not like the mandatory clientelle often visibly under substance influence. It is a pity, and not a fault of owners.

There is a fabulous view of Sleeping Giant that you can enjoy during your complementary breakfasts.

The property could use an upgrade but dining room fabulous!

The breakfast was continental! Plenty of food and the service was excellent!

Breakfast service was top notch once again. Instay over 100 nights yearly and service here is best by far. Now older hotel but clean safe and spacious. Like the proximity to casino and walking to good restsurants.
