Beautiful building by the castle with antique furniture and decor. Great breakfast. Free wine in the lobby every evening. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location by the castle and old town was excellent. Overall one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in.

A beautiful, unique and character-filled hotel. The bed and bedding were so comfortable, the room (while small) is wonderful and breezy, quiet and exactly right. Staff were unassuming and helpful, and very friendly. The courtyard is a wonderful spot for a morning coffee, cool plunge in the pool, and relaxation with a good book; in the evening, we loved the sparkling wine made available to guests. It was romantic and softly-lit with lanterns, candles, and the firepit. It is everything a boutique hotel should be. If we could come back tomorrow, we would. PS - Loved the peacocks. They just added to the charm. :o)

Beautiful, unique property at the top of Alfama right next to the Castelo de Sao Jorge. Wonderful staff - kind and attentive and gorgeous property. We had the Petite room which didn't have a view but it was cozy and enough space. We especially loved the courtyard and the complimentary sparkling wine. A great place to unwind with the peacocks at the end of the day. Highly recommend not driving there there (only taxis and tour operators can get there) but the hotel provides an excellent service to pick you up. Recommended!

The property is absolutely beautiful and historic. It was a lovely way to end our trip. Be aware that you cannot park a car near the hotel, so, if you have a rental car, etc., you will need to park over 20 min taxi ride away at a sister property, and take a taxi to and from the hotel. The cost is covered by the hotel one way, but not for the return fare. Next time, we would return the rental before staying at the hotel. Everyone there is warm and the beds were extremely comfortable. Highly recommend!

What are unique facility. Next to or within a castle. The roads going to it are cobblestone. Winding roads and it takes multiple left and right turns to get to it. Located in central Lisbon. Access to areas of interest was easy. The staff was excellent. There was a billing mistake made. They went the extra mile to correct it. I would’ve never even known that it existed. If you wanted a taxi at 3:30 in the morning, they had a taxi there at 3:30 ready to take you. The bar that they had was fairly well stocked. You used it on the honor system. What place has that kind of policy? We could not have asked for a better experience.

Pros: A hotel with a lot of history, built in former Castle kitchen. Great breakfast, a tiny soaking pool, but enough to cool off, great courtyard with many sitting areas, a private museum. Cons: Once you climb up the entire hill to get there, you don't want to go anywhere, so arrive late. No Uber, only city taxi and resident vehicles allowed. It still is walkable to restaurants and attractions, but there is a street with 135 Steps to Conquer most of the times Peacock families everywhere- lovely but loud

Old charm. Hotel in located near the castle and within the gates. Each room is exceptional. Breakfast daily. Port in every room. Staff realized it was my birthday and celebrated with a birthday surprise. Fire pit in the patio with wine in the evenings. Perfect setting if you want old world Portugal. Highly recommend. This was our favorite hotel of our holiday.

We would recommend Solar Do Castelo to anyone looking to stay in Lisbon and get immersed in the neighborhood. The accommodations were comfortable and clean. The staff was attentive and thorough. The breakfast and all day snacks were a treat. The courtyard was inviting and the atmosphere warm and friendly. The peacocks were unique and quiet at night. We would definitely stay here again.

The property is beautiful, and the staff is wonderful and gracious. Our room was clean and comfortable, but a bit small (we had nowhere to comfortably put our full size luggage) - just a note if you are a heavy packer like us, you may need to upgrade to a larger room! We loved the peacocks and the courtyard! We had some issues with taxis not being willing to go all the way to the hotel, so they would drop us off at the bottom of the hills and we would need to walk the rest of the way. This was NOT a hotel issue, but if you are unable to walk up the steep hills it may be a problem.

Disappointed- the room is dated and drab. Dark and small. Mould round shower. Not Luxury as sold on Expedia! Staff seem miserable. Breakfast not bad but same. Overall I would rate this a 3* and not value for what you pay.

Amazing place with a scenic and delicious breakfast. Be prepared to walk up hills with your luggage, as vehicle can’t access the area, but it’s worth it. Peacocks were noisy, but pretty, facility was very clean, and staff was super friendly.

Very difficult to get to. Driver finally stopped and we rolled luggage several blocks up steep hill. Otherwise, nice lobby /courtyard. Rooms small cramped, and not great. Breakfast fair. No restaurant. Could be very nice, but not.

This hotel exceeded all my expectations!! The conceirge went above and beyond her duties to make our stay enjoyable. The room the breakfast buffet the service all was top notch. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to enjoy Lisbon!

Beautiful and unique hotel in an area just outside the castle—-so lots of tourists. Once inside it is very beautiful with wandering peacocks that you hear throughout your stay. There was some confusion and wait when we needed to be picked up and also the taxi was 30 minutes early to go to the airport which we had to pay for. Maybe a better understanding and presence of universal travel at the front desk. The service was very hit and miss and not helpful with restaurants, etc.

This hotel is not friendly. When we arrived at the intercom on the street we were told we would have to walk 100 meters uphill with our suitcases to the enterance although there was a driveway the Uber driver was told no exceptions. My wife has a serious lung disease and can not walk up hills or steps. We went to another hotel called Magdalena which was very good The Solar Hotel refused to give me a refund even though it was impossible for us to reach the hotel from the intercom station. They claim this is a 4 or 5 star hotel I say they are dishonest.

Beautiful hotel near the castle. The staff were very friendly and helpful. If you plan to stay here, you will need to be comfortable with the peacock noises in the early morning and sometimes during the night. It didn’t bother me at all since I had a white noise machine, but I did hear another guest complain about it. Overall, a beautiful place and I would stay here again.

Access to areas of interest was easy. The staff was excellent. There was a billing mistake made. They went the extra mile to correct it. I would’ve never even known that it existed. If you wanted a taxi at 3:30 in the morning, they had a taxi there at 3:30 ready to take you. The bar that they had was fairly well stocked. You used it on the honor system. What place has that kind of policy? We could not have asked for a better experience.

What’s not to love? This wonderful hotel is inside the castle walls! The service we received from the moment we arrived was excellent. We were offered the breakfast upon arrival and our bags were waiting in our room once we returned from a full day of sightseeing. My only regret is not booking another night. Only a taxi can provide door to door service, so if you have heavy luggage, arrange for their efficient pick up or get a taxi. It’s a steep climb up! Highly recommend!

Fabulous hotel in the heart of the old town - next to the castle walls. Pick up from the airport was seamless and very quick to the hotel up some very narrow streets (if you are taking a cab make sure they can get inside the city walls) We arrived before check in and were offered breakfast at no extra charge and left our bags with reception. We we told we could check in at 1.00pm and so returned to get in straight away with bags in the room already. We had a complementary bottle of local sparkling wine in an ice bucket which was delicious. The room was spacious (no3 - Alfama room) with views to the side and back courtyard. The room was comfortable with all the amenities you would expect. Good plentiful breakfast with lots of options to choose from. An honesty bar for a late drink in the lounge / terrace which was very welcome. The boutique hotel is practically in the castle. The hotel made transport from the airport very easy, but be sure to arrange with them prior to arriving. You will be staying in the old town area, so expect narrow streets, and much walking. The 737 bus picks up right outside the Castle, and is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Many shops, and very good restaurants are close by. In the morning, the hotel has quite a good breakfast spread, so plan on including that with your stay. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Ms. Bento was particularly helpful when we booked an excursion to Sintas. A multitude of peacocks reside in and around the Castle, and provide daily shows of their vibrant plumage. Really enjoyed the experience.

This is a very charming and unique hotel, located just next to the castle. Staff are friendly and helpful. The location is excellent for many attractions of Lisbon. It’s a pleasant though uphill walk to reach the place (alternatively, taxis can access but not uber due to the historic district).

The property is absolutely beautiful and historic. It was a lovely way to end our trip. Be aware that you cannot park a car near the hotel, so, if you have a rental car, etc., you will need to park over 20 min taxi ride away at a sister property, and take a taxi to and from the hotel. The cost is covered by the hotel one way, but not for the return fare. Next time, we would return the rental before staying at the hotel. Everyone there is warm and the beds were extremely comfortable. Highly recommend!

We booked this based on the pictures and reviews and were not disappointed. We arrived before check in time so they took our luggage while we went on a tour. When we returned, they brought our luggage to our room and booked a Fado Restaurant for us for the following evening. The next morning after having a wonderful breakfast( included in our stay) I found out the shower didn't work. We reported it to the front desk and left for a tour. It was fixed when we returned. The hotel is right next to the Castle of St. George on the top of one of the hills. To get to our tours we had to walk down to the city squares, going back was a little bit harder. There is a bus that stops near the hotel , but we chose to walk.. We enjoy staying in small hotels like this with lots of character and it didn't disappoint.

Would stay here again in a heartbeat! Front desk folks amazing. Breakfast until NOON, including Champagne. Always something wonderful to snack on. In the evening more champagne. Room was fine ; bed very comfortable. Just remember to bring your earplugs as the peacocks are extremely loud. One loved to sit on my balcony. Good pictures.

The hotel was great for our quick stay in Lisbon. The room had everything we needed and we didn't ever get woken up by the peacocks (although they were fun to see from our window!). We were happy to have pickup and drop-off from the rental car and to the airport arranged through the hotel as not all cars can get up to the hotel.

We chose Solar do Castelo because of its unique location and luxury reputation, but unfortunately it didn’t quite meet our expectations. The location is fantastic, and the outdoor courtyard is beautiful. Breakfast was also very good. However, the hotel itself didn’t feel particularly luxurious. The beds weren’t very comfortable, the walls were quite thin (we could hear our neighbours talking and using the shower), and the elevator consistently had an unpleasant smell. Our arrival also left a poor first impression. Our taxi driver had difficulty finding the hotel, but instead of handling the situation professionally, the receptionist was quite rude to him while disputing the fare making us feel quite uncomfortable. Overall, it’s a nice hotel in an excellent location, but we expected more in terms of comfort and service for the price.
