Aurora Igloo South

The view was incredible with wild horses running during sunset. Weather didn’t cooperate for northern lights viewing. The booking wasn’t clear on the bathroom situation, so we had booked the separate bath house mistakenly. Would recommend booking the built in bathroom as there is also some space to put luggage.

You’d get a unique experience if weather is nice (for us it was not). The check in and out was very smooth and the igloo inside was very clean and comfy. The things I can complain about was the bathroom condition. There are only two for a total of 12 igloos, which makes you wait long in lines if ppl are taking shower… I think overall the experience was over priced, because I think the igloos are built east to west and even if there’s a nice weather and aurora you are likely not able to see it unless you are in the last igloo in the row

Quite a fun experience staying in an igloo, but good to know parking and shared bathrooms quite a distance away-so won’t be fun in bad weather. The complimentary hot chocolate there is the best ever!!

Very nice staff. We had trouble with our room and they gave us another one right away. Free coffee, espresso, hot coco and tea available in shower room.

Very unique, my wife doesn’t like the dark, but this was a very cozy experience. She loved this .Didn’t get to see the aurora. (Cloudy) but I glad I still did it. Had the one without the bathroom, and it was a well lit path to walk on and graveled, showers and bathrooms seamed to be always available and clean

We spent one night here as a fun novelty. Unfortunately it was cloudy, so we didn't see the northern lights or stars but that's ok! It was still a really fun quirky place to stay that was extremely comfortable and cute. Be aware: you can book an ingloo WITH or WITHOUT a bathroom. We booked one without a private bathroom so you have to walk a minute to the common building by the parking lot, it has multiple bathrooms and showers and a little kitchenette with a sink and espresso machine for use. It was like fancy camping. They had fresh towels, shampoo, etc. But we were surprised b/c we didn't read the fine print. Expensive but worth it for us for one night.

Lovely way to enter the space by picking up a key and having a small fridge and glassware and clean amenities waiting. The horses and birdlife were really a wonderful addition to the midnight sun and the comfortable bedding and space was perfect! A couple additions would make this space even that much easier: some composts or plates would have been great and maybe a wagon at the parking lot to bring things to the igloo would make for less hauling trips ! Finally the bathrooms were great; there just were not enough of them as there was often a queue for toilet or shower. Recommend adding a separate toilet only area! Would love to come again during the winter!

The hotel was easy to find. There were a lot of space for parking. There is a small community house (container), which provides a good coffee machine including hot choc and tea. One can sit there, but you will be seated next to the toilets and showers. To get to the igloo you need to walk a small, unpaved path. Because of the size of the rocks its difficult to bring your suitcase to it. Inside our Igloo were 3 heaters. We went mid october and the weather wasnt too bad. Therefore it got warm inside. Easy check in/out.

Staying at this property was fun- you can see the starts on a clear night. Picking up the keys was easy and straight forward. You may want to check-in early and shower otherwise you may have no hot water. Also, if you need to pee in the middle of the night - you’ll need to walk to the bathrooms which is not far from the igloos but on a very cold night you’ll need get dressed again (jacket, hat, gloves) to get there. Unless you are a polar bear with no need for warm clothing.

The room door was kinda broken and it was difficult to use/open. There's some cobwebs around the room too and it lacks some basic amenities.

The room was perfect. Very clean and welcoming. The heated mattress was a womderful addition. The facilities were very clean and maintained. Was a perfect location to see the northern lights.

Such a unique experience! Beautiful little igloos are immaculate.

Unique stay! Wouldn't have more than two people in the space as it's small. The view is just a field and they didn't clean under the bed as there was a plethora of dead bugs underneath.

Stayed in the summer and very impressed when I arrived at the unique space and bathrooms. There was lots of closet space and a fridge! It was actually hot in August (66-68 degrees, tank top weather). When I pulled back the curtains, huge flies everywhere. Killed at least 6 and still some. Also, my glasses changed to dark the whole time, so lots of UV exposure in there (can close curtains, but top open). Warming blankets, so toes warm at night when cold. Overall an interesting experience save for the two negatives above.

Wow - sparkling clean and organized. Easy to communicate with owners, views were dramatic. Best night in Iceland

There was hair in the bed and there was as a small hole in the bathroom which made spiders to enter the room. We had to deal with them.

Unique stay experience. Our kids were totally charmed. The downside is that the igloos function like greenhouses so it was very hot in the day and afternoon. They do have air conditioning, which helps. But still very hot.

It was an amazing experience. The room was cosy with heaters, a heated mattress and cosy lights. We saw the northern lights on display for about 2 hours looking straight out from the comfort of our bed. Highly recommend!

Such a great unique experience. We got the igloo with the private bathroom which was worth every penny. We could lay in bed and watch the Icelandic ponies graze in the pasture behind. Each unit was very private with curtains to pull around for extra privacy. We were there on a hot day but the evening was cool so our unit was comfortable to sleep and the sleep mask provided helped with the sun. Recommend!

Amazing hotel - so easy to find and park! Comfortable bed, spacious bathroom considering it’s just an add on to the dome. Perfect way to see the stars or the northern lights if you’re lucky!!

The igloo was lovely, very comfortable. We were sadly very unlucky with the weather - the wind caused an awful draft so it was very cold despite mutiple heaters. Was fine in bed thanks to the lovely heated mattress and thick duvet.

Overall great stay. Lucky enough to see the northern lights. Only downfall was the curtains need to be a little bigger. By the time it goes around the bed and the door it leaves an opening about a foot wide. Also would be great if when prepping the room they left atleast 1 heater on. We got there and our igloo was freezing. Took about 20 minutes to finally start to warm up. The shared bathrooms were maybe a 45 second walk. Not far at all. Overall enjoyed it. Made for a great finish to our anniversary.

The sheep wandering by our igloo and the cows and/or horses in the distance added to the ambiance. We didn’t get lucky enough to see Northern Lites, but boy what an opportunity that would be to lay in bed and see these from your igloo! Very comfortable. Plenty warm with heated mattress pads and floors. Room was very hot upon arrival due to being heated by the sun in the day but cooled off rather quickly. The door opening and lock system does leave something to be desired though. We checked out the Aegissidufoss Falls down the road from the igloo. We also walked the Hella River Walk Trail. Very near the Caves of Hella and American Bus Cafe. Food options very convenient. Seljalandsfoss Falls approx 30 min away so could over nite location for exploring that and the Skogafoss falls another 20-30 min past that.

It was an incredibly unique experience with amazing views of the country side and the midnight sunset! The igloo was plenty spacious for two people and more private than you think. Easily cooled or heated, but be careful of the morning sun heating the igloo up! Highly recommend you give it a try!

Was an amazing experience. Really fascinating watching stars and northern lights!! Little on the privacy. Maybe fences bigger. Open area that has nothing curtain and see able from lot. Garbages were full in bathroom forgot to empty. Otherwise perfect!!

After an initial issue of getting into igloo( key was not working and had to be worked on back and forth for 30 minutes) and not being able to get a hold of anyone after initial call, we got in and wow view and the auroras showed up and the view of the auroras and sky was beyond the purview of my vocabulary. Overall magnificent.

Lockbox frozen shut, but eventually got into it. Then the door’s lock was also frozen and worked inconsistently. After about 10-15 minutes of jimmying the lockbox and door, we eventually got in. Then locked the door from the inside, found that we couldn’t unlock it. Called the host to tell them we were trapped. After maybe 20 minutes they showed up. After they struggled with the door, they eventually got it unlocked. Together, we couldn’t come up with a way to consistently operate the lock. Also reported that the heater wasn’t working. When it was determined that it was not possible to fix either issue, I asked for another room. They said they were fully booked and couldn’t move us. So we had to keep the door unlocked and cold all night long. Feeling unsafe, I stayed up all night to watch over my family. Not at all the luxuriously restful experience I thought I’d paid for. When our nextdoor igloo stayed vacant all night, I felt extra lied to about “fully booked.” It seems what the host meant was “if I switch rooms, I won’t be able to rent your room and make revenue from it.” When the cleaning crew showed up in the morning at our checkout time, we told them about the door and the heater, they said they knew and acknowledged it was a longstanding issue. The igloo is such a cool concept, but I’m extremely disappointed to have paid as much as I did and not even received a restful night’s sleep, and even more furious to have been gaslit by the hosts.

Great spot, beautiful accommodations but no commutation that would result in resolving the issue: door did not lock from the inside, leaving us being in an open field on someone’s farm property with room, unlocked. The issue was never resolved, although they sent 2-3 people who did not solve the issue and left.

Better signage a to where to locate the "Service Building" especially after nightfall. We arrived within the desired check-in window of 4 pm - 7 pm, but it was pitch back (October 28th) and there were no signs as to which way to proceed at the fork in the road to easily find the Service building and retrieve our key and igloo number.

Funny that door locks work differently here from what we are used to in rest of the world or atleast that was my opinion ( no offense ). hope someone agrees with me on this :-). We reached Aurora Igloo after completing Golden Circle, it was late and sort of close to 9:30 PM and it was chilly and windy. Fetched the key from the lock box but opening the door was a nightmare. It took us about approx 30 mins to open the door. When we called the number for help while still struggling to unlock, they said they have no one to come to help. perhaps, it was already too late by then. Thank heavens we managed to unlock otherwise we would have ended up sleeping in the car. Apart from this, rest of the stay was nice. Place was clean though compact. Visiting Iceland is like an out of this world experience, in that Aurora Igloo is an icing on the cake. Whole of my family fell in love with this place and stay here.

It is a place like no other. Very cool concept and off grid but close to nearby town location. Few Icelandic attractions 30 minutes away. Waterfalls and DC3 wreckage. Very clean and well organized amenities. Nice showers, hot water, espresso-coffee machine to start the day with your favorite one. Igloos are fantastic, comfortable bed and fresh, crisp white bed linen. With the right weather seeing northern lights would be magical. Self checkin and checkout and very responsive, english speaking staff if you had any questions.. Absolutely recommend for tourists looking for something different from a typical hotel..

We had a magical time- it was gorgeous, and the details of the igloo was great. Just like the other reviews I read, we ran into problems of opening the door. Two other couples were checking in the same time and had the same issue. You should email your guests a video of how to open the door. We had a hard time getting OUT of our room as well.

The best location! Loved how cosy and warm it was and the heated blankets were amazing! So nice to wake up to a beautiful sunrise and lay in a comfortable bed with a view! Definitely coming back!

Location brilliant and great experience - we were lucky that the northern lights made an appearance!

The igloo was clean and comfortable and had everything that we needed. Parking was very convenient. The igloo made THE PERFECT place to see the Northern Lights which were right over head! We were able to find everything we needed for food and drinks in nearby Hella. Excellent stay!

Aurora igloo was an amazing experience. It was so quiet, the scenery was serene and one had plenty of privacy. The bed was comfortable with fluffy down comforters and a mattress warmer. The location is a short distance from landmarks like glaciers, puffins and waterfalls. A few restaurants, gas station and grocery stores are also a short drive nearby. Just up the street is Hella Caves, which was a unique tour here.

Finding the property location was easy (even after sunset). It’s a beautiful property, small m cosy. Due to space constraints it’s hard to open up 2 luggage. Water pressure in shower area is small and hot water is not consistent. Parking is provided, however if your igloo unit is far away then your will have a hard time carrying your luggage there. Overall I will still give this place 👍. Environment is so serene and pretty. Wake up to nature. Room are so cosy. Perfect for couples. Well done 👍

This spot is AMAZING! The dome was easy to book and find when we arrived. Communication was great & the check-in was seamless. Surprisingly private too. We booked the dome with the attached bathroom. We were hoping to see some of the Northern Lights, but a combo of cloud cover, a full moon and low aurora activity nixed that - regardless still an amazing experience .
