We loved the top of Newport rooftop bar. the coffee counter was convenient. Staff were very accommodating. Location was perfect for walking to sights and Thames st. Valet service was a bit overwhelmed at the time of checkout being our only criticism. We would def stay again

OK, sorry about the 4 stars. However, when one is nickel and dimed to death with fees, fees, and more fees added on top of valet parking and $150 surprise cleaning fee (was told because of our dog they do a deep cleaning AND they charge $50/night for dog), one expects the pool to sparkle, the hot tub to be CLEAN with bubbles (4 different guests refused to get into it), and the food from room service to be decent (my grandson's pasta was burnt. For the final cost for 3 nights, nope, wasn't worth it. We have stayed in 2 other historic hotels in New England, and the Viking wasn't worth it.

Property was outdated. Very very far from luxury. Toilets in pool area smelled awful. No lockers or changing facilities in the bathrooms of Pool area. It left a lot to be desired. Location was good but hotel needs to be updated

Beautiful hotel conveniently located within walking distance to the wharf but far enough from the congestion of the wharf. Great shopping and coffee shops on Bellevue. Friendly staff. Great spa and relaxing spa like indoor pool Md hot tub. Great roof top bar with live music

Great location. Could walk to many areas of interest. Staff was friendly. Several convention groups were there and had private parties on the fire pit patio and roof top bar area throughout our stay and so these amenities were unavailable us. The pool really needs to be renovated. It was cold and the hot tub, although hot, was very small and did not have jets.

Property and staff were great. Very convenient to all sights. Free water is nice. However, be aware that parking is $50 per day and there is also a daily $45 resort fee! Not sure if this the case everywhere. Still, great place to stay in Newport.

When we checked in our room was still dirty. There were cheerios on the floor. Our fridge was leaking water. The heat was on so our room was at 80 degrees. The internet was out for two nights. For as expensive as the rooms are, you get no included breakfast, the cafe charges over $10 for a bacon egg and cheese sandwich that’s McDonald’s quality. The downstairs bar tender was very rude and dry. He seemed absolutely miserable to be there. The room service staff never came to clean our room the entire stay, or if they did it was not noticeable. There were multiple events happening which would be fine if the events didn’t cut off access to the 24/7 gym and the pool. For half of our stay these amenities were inaccessible, which again for the price tag is huge let down. The redeeming qualities are the wonderful front desk and valet staff. They were all very kind. TL;DR, could get much better quality at a lower price. Would not recommend.

An old Newport icon that is in serious need of an overhaul. We had broken glass on our carpet when we arrived, and the hallways looked like they hadn’t been vacuumed in a while. The baseboards in the hallway were peeling white paint and the chips were on the floor in the hallway. Our bathroom was tiny, as was the shower stall.

It was extremely expensive for what was available. For example, two very small cups of clam chowder and one small can of Coke cost me $34.50. There also was a huge charge to park your car. Finally, it needs renovations. In that regard, the old heater in the room was extremely loud.

Very nice updated hotel. I’d call it classic colonial style. Great location. 10 min walk to Thames street and the piers with all restaurants on the water. Very happy with the location and super clean bedrooms and sheets/pillows. The only one con I can say is the 45.00/day parking. It’s pretty steep considering there are many spots and you’re paying for the room. That is the only negative.

We recently stayed at Hotel Viking in Newport, Rhode Island, and unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory. From the moment we checked in, we noticed a lack of cleanliness throughout the property. Our room, in particular, had several concerning issues. First and foremost, the bathroom felt very dirty. The property is centrally located, however far enough from the busier areas. Lots of dining options nearby, safe and quiet streets. The room needs updating- it feels dated- the bathroom had peeling paint, rusty faucets. The pool and hot tub area are in need of maintenance - the hot tub water was green and the pool was very cloudy.

I have reservation for my daughter and son in law for 4 nights. They stayed only one night and checked out next day. The bed was bad , not clean, bathroom was not clean, not recommended. They did pictures, but i can't download. They take same night for other 3 nights in Brenton hotel, which is excellent.

Booked two nights for my elderly parents as a birthday gift. I was not expecting to have to pay a “destination fee” when they arrived. They called to let me know that the hotel was charging another $100?? A other $100 for two nights! Unbelievable. Beware of that when booking!! Their room was dirty and they found trash under their bed. Will not be booking again.

The hotel was beautiful with great dining options and not a long walk to town. The only issue was the bathroom tub didn’t drain. Also it’s a super long walk to the outer rooms in the extended portion of the hotel

Great location and very walkable. Room and bathroom felt a little run down. Zero water pressure in the shower, which made washing hair a little problematic. I do not think I would stay here again due to the high cost for what you get. I think there are other options just as convenient in walkable for a better price.

We stayed at Hotel Viking years ago when we got married and remembered the hotel very differently. The room was clean but cramped. The bathroom was so much worse. My husband is tall, and could barely maneuver around in the bathroom. We opted for breakfast in the restaurant one day, and it took a very long time to be served despite there only being 2 other tables at the time. Someone else must’ve complained because a manager came over. Things moved quicker, but our food was cold and unenjoyable. The place is older and decorated very nicely, but it was not comfortable.

The room was spacious and charming. But the bathroom left a lot to be desired. The toilet and shower were on one side of the hallway, and the sink was on the other side. There was clear water damage on the wall behind the toilet that had been addressed, but was a mess. And the side with the toilet and shower was tiny, you could barely fit to sit on the toilet.

Couldn’t see the ocean, hotel on the outside looks beautiful and grand inside is more run down than you would expect a hotel like that to be. The room was ok nothing to write home about. Could use some serious updating, paint etc. kind of expected the gilded age vibe inside and didn’t really get that. Would also like to note there is not much sound deadening between rooms could hear a lot of chatter from hallway and a joining room. Room above is sounded like they had lead shoes on. Overall it was not bad although we did not spend much time in the room. Would we come back? Yes but because it is really convenient to everything down town walking distance. The valets were all super nice. Staff was friendly.

This is not a luxury hotel. The front desk people were argumentative with me on two separate occasions. We put our name in for dinner and they said they would call when a table was ready-they never called and when we went back to the restaurant it was practically empty. I appreciate that this property is old, but the cleanliness of the rooms was lacking. This is a mediocre place to stay.

Absolutely loved our stay. The front desk found out it was my daughter’s 18th birthday and they sent us cake. It was a great gesture and made our stay even more special. The hotel is gorgeous and there’s a nice feeling of history that is so fitting for the vibe of Newport.

It's a nice old hotel with character. Nobody cleaned our room both days. Check-in and check-out were badly handled, took forever, and no bill was sent: had to follow up. Management did try to address check-in problems and was responsive. But way too expensive for the experience we had.

The I had very high expectations for Hotel Viking but was greatly disappointed. The front desk staff were not friendly or attentive. They preferred to rush guest out of the way. Additionally, there were ants in our bathroom. We didn’t make a big deal of it, but clearly they need to do a bette job of cleaning the rooms. I tried to inform the front desk staff about the ants at check out but again, they did not seem to care. I’m unlikely to stay here again.

Cancelled & delayed flights. Called multiple time to share delays & cancellation. They told me if I arrived in the 3:00 AM area, that I may have to be moved and/or call Travelocity and not get any refund. Not a great experience with a very expensive room for 9 hours. super expensive for what the hotel experience was - disappointing.

I was a bit concerned after reading some recent reviews, but I have to say, our experience at Hotel Viking was good. Staff: front desk staff and valets were very friendly and accommodating. We didn’t patron the restaurant, market, or bar so I can’t speak to service staff. Room: bed was very comfortable, no issues with AC, although it was a bit loud. Room was ready a few hours before expected, and late check out was available. Bath/toilet and sink are separate which is a bit odd but I guess probably not uncommon for older hotels - overall need some TLC but everything was in working order. Biggest complaint with the room was we could hear creaking from the people above. Luckily the folks upstairs weren’t up late, but the sound (reminded me of my first apartment) is obnoxious nonetheless. Location: really great. 5 min walk to harbor - very doable for my 4 & 6 year old. Fees: I know this has been a significant complaint from others; and while I agree, the fees are exorbitant, the costs were estimated accurately when we booked, so weren’t surprised by any new charges. The hotel has seen better days and could use some renovation/updates, but overall we were pleased with our 1-night stay.

Great hotel and friendly staff. Located right near the bus that takes you to all the historic mansions and a short walk to the water. Friendly staff who are responsive and super helpful and knowledgeable. Will definitely stay there again when I come back to Newport!

Great hotel in a convenient location to restaurants and shopping. Just a short 10 min walk down the hill. The hotel must’ve been elegant in its day but seems a little tired. It still has very nice charm and sitting areas outside with gas fireplaces. We didn’t explore the hotel much but the pool and spa sounded nice here. The rooftop bar is fantastic. One heads up - the bathrooms are teeny tiny.

The fact the roof top bar was NEVER opened to the public was very disappointing. There was no maid service once. Ran out of towels, toilet paper. We ate breakfast in the dining room both days and the service was literally the worst we have ever experienced. It took us close 1 1/2 hours each day to get served breakfast. had to get coffee and water ourselves. We paid over $600/night - unreal It seems as though there is plenty of staff but no one wants to work. Extremely disappointing.

The staff at the front desk wonderful and helpful. The cleaning staff was perfect. Hotel is in great location. Their only weak point was the rooftop bar, the bar guys made several mistakes with drinks and food.
