Everything is under construction. It would have been nice to know before booking. Overpriced for the conditions in the building.

Loved the look of the property and the proximity to the lake ..very walkable to shopping. The pool was a bit small but still a nice area

Beautiful property and well maintained. Nothing beats their front row seat on Superior, the harbor and boat dock. Restaurant was great when it opened but very limited days and hours.

Great deck and walkway on the lakeside. Lovely walking path along the water. Can walk downtown easily as well.

parking was easy. it was under construction at the time of my stay. the ice machine wasn't hooked up. the bar was not open. the mold in the bathtub was terrible. there was a lot of trip hazards.

Walking in we were disappointed to see everything torn up with construction. With no explanation we took our key card and made our way to the third floor. Only to be greeted by the hallway floors torn up. Later a woman who worked at the restaurant explained that the sprinklers had malfunctioned weeks ago, causing lots of damage. We should have had this communicated to us before we arrived and most certainly at time of check in. Some of the construction people were just plain rude. Almost running into my husband. There’s a nice balcony, but of course they decided to close that down. So not only is the lobby a mess we couldn’t even access that amenity. If management would have communicated concern and apologies angry customers would have been more sympathetic. We chose a lakeside room which had what appears to be the same bugs and cobwebs on the windows as people were complaining about 2 years ago. We don’t mind paying more for something nice, but this was far from nice. The breakfast was just okay. Everything was very disappointing. Didn’t try the restaurant because after 2 nights there we were just over it.

We picked this hotel for its exterior looks when we stayed in Ashland. Regrettably, we arrived during contruction following a water problem that harmed the 2nd floor and lobby that made using the lobby very difficult. I think without that mess that the stay would have been a lot more favorable for an overnight stay. Other than the 3rd floor area by the elevators also being repaired, the stay might have been a lot more comfortable if not only more memorable.

This hotel is under a Much needed renovation. Lobby and rooms are all getting a well deserved upgrade so be warned if staying here you will be in a construction site. That said the staff was wonderful the restaurant very good and you can’t beat the view of the Bay from the outside seating area. Great parking lot and easy access to the bike trails.

Unfortunately we did not enjoy our time at this property. It had warned us of construction that was happening but we walked in to scaffolding in the lobby and floorboards missing in our room which left big holes in the walls. The toilet was stained blackish from the water. And our view was of empty garbage cans and plants that were lying down tucked u dear our window. The balcony was closed for remodeling but that was what was out our window. The lake view was great and the restaurant had good food and friendly staff. The room was clean but had a strong perfume smell that we were told was cleaning chemicals. We shortened our stay to one night and thankfully the hotel staff didn’t charge us for the cancellation of the remaining stay. We will not be back to this hotel. It just wasn’t a place we felt comfortable staying at and it was from the moment we arrived.

The bed was so comfortable and the room was spotless. Breakfast was also very good.

The property for the price was disgusting it was gloomy very dated and the corridor smelt moldy It was a terrible experience someone needs to revamp this property it was at best a one star hotel gross

Wonderful place to stay. Room was spotless, quiet. Staff was nice and accomodating. Could walk the walking trails and bike paths easily.

Excellent Staff! Our rooms were clean but a bit dated and there was noisy construction activity on our floor. One the rehab is done, this will once again be a spectacular hotel.

Expedia should have alerted us that the building was undergoing renovations. The bathtub was very unclean. We did not have during any of the five nights we stayed there housekeeping service. We did receive clean towels when we asked for them. The price was too high for the condition of the hotel and the service received.

We stayed three nights and never got our room cleaned, Had to ask for towels, toilet paper, soap bars every day. They didn't collect the garbage, either. The hotel was in a nice area, though.

The rooms were clean, the bathtub looked a little rough. The property inside and out was beautiful but definitely could use a power wash. The cobwebs in the lake view rooms were excessive. The restaurant was spectacular!

Bathroom wasn’t clean The room was small compared to price and description. At night, there were humming noises. Room wasn’t updated for the price. Felt cheated.

Stately hotel built to mimic grand hotels of the past. Walkable to downtown, and the city's waterfront trail passes in front of the property. Great views of the bay and beyond. 24 scenic miles to the Bayfield area. The restaurant was just ok, especially for the big city prices. My $50 ribeye was thin, full of gristle and overcooked. The free breakfast was good and the attendant was very attentive and always had a smile. Room was clean and comfortable, but for some reason the people above us wore anchors on their feet and felt the need to stomp around late into the night. I overheard the people who were across the hall from us mention the stomping at breakfast, so it didn't just affect us.

The lobby was very cool it’s decorated like a late 1800’s hotel. The restaurant on the lower level had very good food and you can sit on the deck and look out over the water. The down side is the rooms were dated. They need to remodel, add outlets and especially new mattresses.

Older building with small room. The sink/vanity area very small. Overpriced, but convenient to get to the Apostle Islands.

A little dated and no lake view made room price excessive and the pillows on the bed were so small there were four and collectively they didn’t add up to the cushion of one - I’ve never had a problem with hotel pillows in my life but honestly had trouble sleeping they were so cheap and small . Otherwise very nice staff and location :) but bring your own pillow

What a beautiful facility right on Lake Superior. From the front desk guys who were so accommodating to our requests to the check out gal who took our picture, it was a trip we won’t soon forget. When you walk into the lobby, the stunning decor of the facility brings you back to the golden age. The outdoor patio was quite comfortable and the view was amazing. Great place to kick back and watch God’s beauty. The rooms were spacious, very comfortable and have the tallest ceilings I have ever seen. The complimentary breakfast was the best I have ever enjoyed in a hotel setting. All in all, it was a very memorable anniversary getaway and one I will long remember. Thank you Best Western.

Beautiful hotel, old world, charm, location was great. Rooms could be updated slightly, more outlets and USB ports would be appreciated.

We loved the suite with 6 windows looking over the lake.

The room was small but still roomy, perfect for us. It needs more outlets. We have two phones and a cpap machine, and there was only 1 outlet on one side of the bed.

Overall was great. Some housekeeping blonde older lady with a clipboard was the rudest person I have met in a long time. Did I have pool towels going up to my room yes my bad. Did she need to take them out of my hands probably not.

It's not unreasonable to adjust a price down instead of up for the condition of the property! Check in: I waited for about 15 min for a phone call to end, only to be dismissed for a man that walked up 10 min after. There was no mention of the EXTENSIVE construction. Elevator: slow and exited to cardboard floor, dismantled ice machine, open rooms with no walls or ceiling, but available tools and low light in hallways. Room: spacious but only had hot water for super early morning showers, not for afternoon shower or water hot enough to dissolve Epsom salt. Staff direction to waterfront were sketchy and unhelpful. Afternoon desk staff loudly discussed his poor mood by 4:00 with other staff members. No hint of area activities or safe crossing of a highway through a tunnel that apparently exists. Breakfast: I only tried a waffle but the batter was runny like it was watered down to stretch further and cooked poorly and had no taste. We did not have a mouse (rodent) in our room but easily could have as the neighbors said they ushered one into the hall. Check out: the desk staff was not unpleasant but seemed aware enough not to ask how the stay was. The hotel has so much potential based on the outside being so beautiful, but $350/night for a city view was mind-blowing for the condition of the hotel and the gentleman at the desk who seemed not grasp the concept of hospitality.

Beautiful outside and entrance, fantastic waterfront view. We had a room on the 1st floor and it smelled very musty and was way too hot when we entered. AC could have been turned on earlier. One light was burnt out. Bed was exceptionally comfortable and breakfast provided was good. Front desk was short staffed and we had to wait over 20 min before checked in (first in line) since the reception was helping someone on the phone, but she was very polite and apologized and offered water bottles right away which was appreciated.

We left a button down shirt in the armoire and called the next day, but it “was no longer there.” We were told no one else had stayed in the room, so it’s pretty obvious it was taken or tossed by staff. The fire alarms went off at 6 AM for about 5 min. Very disappointing stay. Wont be returning.

The agent said their system was down so they couldn't do anything about giving other family members a room near us. When our daughter got to their room, it wasn't what they reserved. The agent said they couldn't change rooms so they had to request the manager to get it taken care of.

We love staying here. If you happen to get a lake view room, it’s beautiful to see the sunrise on Lake superior in the morning. Good breakfast, helpful staff and a walkable path along the marina and tunnel down into Main Street. Highly recommend black cat coffee.

Beautiful hotel right on Lake Superior. Close to everything. Nice walking path right out front of the hotel. Friendly staff. Great view from our room. Comfortable beds. Lots of outdoor seating. We even grilled our dinner one night. Lots of parking. We will definitely stay here again.

Centrally located in the city of Ashland, WI. The hotel has some great historic charm, but it could use a few updates. It's probably one of the better choices in the area.

We specifically picked this hotel because in the past they had excellent food and beverage...With a view of Lake Superior. At no time during the booking period nor on the website was it announced that the Dining was closed. Upon arrival, the very friendly front desk person proceeded to tell us that the staff had all left and the only menu options were House Salad Chips and Salsa or a frozen pizza. Very disappointing as there were many other hotels in the area that we could have stayed at for half the price ...with Food and beverage options. They offered no concessions on the rate due to the lack of prior communication. I felt bad for the staff that was there as it wasn't their fault, but the management needs some training in customer service. BTW...It was a Saturday stay in summer the busiest time period for a northern tourist attraction

Hotel is fine and desk staff very friendly. Hotel restaurant was a bad experience. Overpriced poor food and bad service. Staff seems not to care.

Overall decent stay. Good service but breakfast has issues with wafflemaker so limited items to eat the mornings we stayed

The restaurant in lower level of the hotel is fabulous! The chef cooked my salmon perfectly. Beautiful views of the bay. Walkable to the marina. The hotel itself is absolutely beautifully and unique!

The hotel is beautiful, the charm of all of the woodwork and hand carved furniture made it feel historical. We were on the third floor facing the lake, it would have been a much better view without the bugs and cob webs. The breakfast was good. We ate dinner at "The Landing" in the basement, the waitress was good, the food was awful and expensive. $22.00 for overcooked spaghetti and they were out of garlic bread. The pizza was doughy, we would not recommend this as a place to eat. Not really a lot of choices for a deli sandwich or a nice dinner in Ashland.

We chose this hotel for it's location and traditional style of an older historic hotel. Property is very well maintained, and has great views and access to Lake Superior and downtown Ashland. The big negative was they recently lost nearly all their cook staff, and the hotel restaurant, which was a reason for choosing this stay, had a very limited bar menu. Not something you expect in the middle of vacation season. Otherwise it was a good stay, and the rest of the facilities were great.

Excellent hotel, complimentary breakfast had plenty of healthy options, friendly and helpful staff. I've stayed here a few times in the past, great views of the bay, easy access to downtown and the recreational trail. I'll definitely stay here again.
