Hotel San Giorgio was a beautiful hotel right in the heart of historic Matera! We were able to stay in the cave hotel which felt both amazing and unique. The room is literally built from the caves of Matera. The room has all the typical amenities and they also had air conditioning. Within their hotel is a walkable cave highlighting many of the items that the people utilized and made during ancient times. Benny and Luigi were both helpful and helpful. There are plenty of residents in the local vicinity to Matera that you never have to leave the grounds. The only regret we had was that we did not stay longer as it was a wonderful place filled with so much history. A UNESCO Heritage Site, it was exciting to view first hand this extraordinary civilization and how they lived.

We spent 3 days at San Giorgio. We were attending a wedding. It was a beautiful town and the was lovely. We had a beautiful apartment with a set table and a fridge with food and drinks. It was exactly what we needed. We asked for an iron and they went out and bought one for us to use. Excellent service

Helpful staff and beautiful spacious room. Room was generously stocked with breakfast and snack items, which was very helpful and delicious. We wished we had stayed longer, as Matera is beautiful and has so many good restaurants.

So Matera is no joke for walking and stairs..but this place makes the steps worth it. We had a suite which was huge..and beautiful. It's easy to get lost, but staff was always available on WhatsApp to help. Breakfast in our room was lovely... definitely recommend...bring good shoes!
