I was blown away by this property. Absolutely every detail has been thought of. From the moment you walk in the door, you are taken by the beautiful decor and the lovely family that own and manage the property. This place is special and truly one of a kind. The spa is absolutely stunning. I can’t wait to go back, truly a hidden gem.

Wonderful, beautiful, amazing. Einfach nur toll dieses altehrwürdige Luxushotel. Stilvolle, liebevolle Einrichtung mit herrlichem hoteleigenen Park. Besonders gefallen hat mir auch der zum Hotel gehörende Lido direkt am Luganer See. Sehr, sehr empfehelnswert

This is a beautiful property filled with antiques and artwork. The staff was helpful and friendly. The grounds are magnificent and the spa is luxurious. The food and drinks were delicious. We even got an upgrade to a fancy suite! Why, I don't know. The place to stay in Lugano.

Very beautiful and cozy hotel! Our room had a great view to the garden and Lugano lake. Spacious room, which was very clean and pleasant, it had a nice balcony. There was an excellent pianist playing in the lounge whole evening on Saturday night. Hotel is situated by only 20 minutes walk from the city center and there was a free bus connection frequently going to city center. We recommend the hotel and would like to visited soon again.

Thought staff service, property, and cleanliness were excellent. Small things to improve: We had a wonderful room, however, the shower was a tub shower and it was a deep tub so stepping in and out was precarious- could have used a grab bar at the back of the shower. We also had a nice patio but the table on it was very small - would be good to get a slightly larger table. Breakfast was good but the scrambled eggs did not taste like eggs- I think because there may have been a lot of cream in them. You could order an omelette/frittata for a good bit extra. Also, they never had any berries for fruit, but you could order them separately for 18 francs!! We only had a hamburger for dinner there but the reviews on the restaurant were not good. Most people said great service, food was overpriced and not that good.

Wir waren zum wiederholten Mal im Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola und wir hatten wie immer eine wunderbar erholsame Zeit. Das Hotel bietet Service auf sehr hohem Niveau. Wir schätzen die gute Lage, das Hotel ist problemlos mit den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln erreichbar und auch das Stadtzentrum von Lugano ist mit dem Bus in wenigen Minuten erreichbar. Die Zimmer sind geräumig, sehr gepflegt und auch sehr sauber. Das Frühstücksbuffet ist sehr reichhaltig und lässt keine Wünsche offen. Auch das Abendessen im Restaurant schmeckte ausgezeichnet. Das Hotel setzte auch einen besonderen Akzent, als ein Mitglied unserer Familie einen runden Geburtstag während des Aufenthaltes feiern konnte. Sehr aufmerksam! Wir waren bestimmt nicht das letzte Mal in der Villa Castagnola.

What a gorgeous property! Received an upgrade to a corner suite which was not only large but had spectacular lake views. Felt like royalty. Dined at Le Relais where both the food and service were excellent. The hotel is adjacent to a funicular and an easy walk to town. The staff are wonderful. A truly fantastic stay. Highly recommended!

The hotel sits right across street from Lake Lugano, so our room has a commanding view of the lake and mountains beyond. The staff couldn’t be nicer, everyone was going out of their ways to help. The suite we got was amazing, valet parking was a breeze, and hotel restaurant was also impressive! All in all a fantastic property, and we loved our stay. Definitely will come back.

My stay at the Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola Lugano was one of the best Hotel experiences I have ever had. My room was exquisite especially my gorgeous balcony with fabulous views of Lake Lugano. The surrounding gardens were so manicured and breathtaking! I stayed at Castagnola for 5 nights and my daily breakfast was a treat to look forward to. I also found the convenience of the Hotel to the city centre a bonus as I could easily walk this each day. Being a woman travelling solo I could not have been made to feel more welcome by the friendly and professional team at Villa Castagnola. I highly recommend this Hotel!

While the location and the service/staff are amazing, they gave us a room on first floor over the restaurant where the piano/mouse was annoying and the pets friendliness was also loud due to a dog constantly barking.

An absolutely amazing hotel in a spectacular location on Lago Lugano. Clean, comfortable and spacious rooms. Grand and elegant public spaces; a wonderful garden and exquisite artwork. Top notch staff. BUT despite the advertisement of air conditioning, there was none on these 80 degree plus early spring days. I booked a room with air conditioning and was charged for and paid for that room, but got no air conditioning, The suggested solution was to leave the door open at night to cool the room - on the ground floor of an unsecured hotel property. Not practical. The second solution was to bring us a fan, as if we were traveling in 1946. A small complaint but any issue which leaves guests uncomfortable in their own room over three days deserved at lease an acknowledgment from the Hotel management. There was nothing. What should have been a five star plus stay was not. Other than that, the hotel is perfect.

What a gorgeous property! Received an upgrade to a corner suite which was not only large but had spectacular lake views. Felt like royalty. Dined at Le Relais where both the food and service were excellent. The hotel is adjacent to a funicular and an easy walk to town. The staff are wonderful. A truly fantastic stay. Highly recommended!

This is a beautiful property filled with antiques and artwork. The staff was helpful and friendly. The grounds are magnificent and the spa is luxurious. The food and drinks were delicious. We even got an upgrade to a fancy suite! Why, I don't know. The place to stay in Lugano.

Review of Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola – A Complete Disaster. If I could give this place a negative rating, I absolutely would. From the very first day, the experience was nothing short of shocking for a so-called 5-star hotel. On arrival, we went for breakfast and waited over an hour for a simple omelette that never arrived. During that time, not even a glass of water was offered. We had a tight schedule and eventually had to walk out. After complaining at reception, the waiter actually chased me down in the lobby, screaming at me in front of other guests, as if I had walked out on the bill. Utterly humiliating and completely unacceptable. The following day, after a long day of sightseeing, I returned to the hotel bar to share a very special moment with my wife. I had planned a surprise—telling her I would be renewing our vows and celebrating her 40th birthday with family in Cartagena, Colombia. She was overwhelmed with excitement, but in the middle of this intimate, emotional moment, the bartender told us to “keep our voices down” because the piano player was performing. The bar was empty. Imagine being told to quiet down while celebrating such an occasion. Truly disgraceful. Finally, to top it all off, on the last day I received my dry cleaning back and discovered that two very expensive pairs of pants had been ruined. They had been washed instead of dry cleaned. Undoubtably the best hotel I have ever stayed at. So beautiful, the staff were amazing so kind and helpful. It was my birthday and they sent chocolates to my room and gifted our group free cocktails before dinner. I was very touched. Would Highly recommend a visit there if staying in Lugano.

My stay at the Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola Lugano was one of the best Hotel experiences I have ever had. My room was exquisite especially my gorgeous balcony with fabulous views of Lake Lugano. The surrounding gardens were so manicured and breathtaking! I stayed at Castagnola for 5 nights and my daily breakfast was a treat to look forward to. I also found the convenience of the Hotel to the city centre a bonus as I could easily walk this each day. Being a woman travelling solo I could not have been made to feel more welcome by the friendly and professional team at Villa Castagnola. I highly recommend this Hotel!

Die Zimmer sind geräumig, sehr gepflegt und auch sehr sauber. Das Frühstücksbuffet ist sehr reichhaltig und lässt keine Wünsche offen. Auch das Abendessen im Restaurant schmeckte ausgezeichnet. Das Hotel setzte auch einen besonderen Akzent, als ein Mitglied unserer Familie einen runden Geburtstag während des Aufenthaltes feiern konnte. Sehr aufmerksam! Wir waren bestimmt nicht das letzte Mal in der Villa Castagnola.

This hotel was absolutely the most gorgeous hotel I have ever stayed. The suites are grand and pay a homage to its time period. The views are unbelievable and the staff is so polite and accommodating. I do wish they would have changed up the menu each morning for breakfast and each night for dinner. Great spot to travel North and South to Lake Como. A wonderful time was had on our girls trip!

The hotel sits right across street from Lake Lugano, so our room has a commanding view of the lake and mountains beyond. The staff couldn’t be nicer, everyone was going out of their ways to help. The suite we got was amazing, valet parking was a breeze, and hotel restaurant was also impressive! All in all a fantastic property, and we loved our stay. Definitely will come back.

Thought staff service, property, and cleanliness were excellent. Small things to improve: We had a wonderful room, however, the shower was a tub shower and it was a deep tub so stepping in and out was precarious- could have used a grab bar at the back of the shower. We also had a nice patio but the table on it was very small - would be good to get a slightly larger table. Breakfast was good but the scrambled eggs did not taste like eggs- I think because there may have been a lot of cream in them. You could order an omelette/frittata for a good bit extra. Also, they never had any berries for fruit, but you could order them separately for 18 francs!! We only had a hamburger for dinner there but the reviews on the restaurant were not good. Most people said great service, food was overpriced and not that good.

Hotel is pet friendly but doesn’t allow pets in the common areas (restaurants, etc) which is a bummer because we don’t travel with the dog to keep him inside the room all the time. They even told us that during summer he is not allowed in the garden areas (?). Also, it costed us CHF 50,00 per night for the dog. The staff is ULTRA friendly and polite. The common areas are fancy, clean and smell great, But we feel the gym, sauna and pool could have some improvements as the areas seem quote old and lacking space. We didn’t play tennis but the facilities seem good. The food is overpriced - Im sorry. I never felt like I was having a “fantastic” meal, although the prices are high.
