Un peu déçu dans l ensemble.. Difficile d accès tout en bas des sassi. Aucune prestation pour nous récupérer ou nous amener au parking payant. La climatisation tres mauvaise et tres bruyante. We made the wrong decision how to get to the property as the instructions about “no steps” is confusing in the English translation. The bed is extremely firm, but I personally liked it, while it was too hard for my wife. Staff who checked us in deserves five stars! Pleasant, efficient, professional, and gave an awesome recommendation for dinner! When leaving, an event was happening in the city with many streets closed in pouring rain. It made it extremely difficult to get back to our car. We had to drag our bags uphill to the parking garage. Kind of soured our experience with this property.

Hotel.com did not disclose that parking is 10 minute ride away, that it costs up to Euro55. Also not disclosed that there were 30 uneven, steep steps to get to our room and there is no assistance with the luggage. The parking info came one day before arrival on an email from the hotel - at a point where cancellation was not possible. On the positive side, the included breakfast was great.

Great quiet location back a street from action. Lovely little hotel, very friendly helpful staff. If you are arriving by car get the hotel to prebook parking with Damascus parking. The shuttle to the hotel is worth every penny. We stayed in room 3. My only complaint would be regarding the bath. It is tired and needs to be refreshed. There is a mold issue around the tub that needs to be addressed. Also the silver on the mirror has worn off in places.

Hôtel Caveoso is in a very convenient location to stay for seeing the sites, right in the middle of the historic area of Matera. Near the cave houses and the church of Santa Maria de Idris as well as a host of cafes, restaurants and small shops. It is not an easy trek up to the hotel as the roads leading up to it are cobble stone (especially when you’re hauling up luggage and carry ons) and cars are not allowed to drive in to the city centre. There are parking lots outside of the area that you can leave your car that range from 10 euros/day to 25 euros/day (also hourly rates). Then a 10 minute walk is required to get to the hotel. You can either walk it or take a bus. Contact the property with regards to questions about the parking. They are very thorough with providing the information you need for your stay there. Very friendly, accommodating and helpful staff. Very nice breakfast included with your stay. You order it the night before and they bring it in fresh each day. Great coffee, croissant/matera bread/focaccia, cheese, cold cuts, yogurt, cereal, fresh seasonal fruit. Beds are comfortable, good water pressure in the shower. Free WIFI on site and rooms. The town is beautiful and the people are super friendly. You feel very safe. One thing to note is that it is a historic building excavated in the rock. So don’t be surprised to feel a dusting of sand on the furniture, floors and bedding. Not a deal breaker though. Would definitely stay again.

The property is located in the historic centre. Really beautiful built into the caves. If you have luggage, it is a bit of a walk up a few stairs and cobblestone streets so I would recommend taking a backpack or ordering an ape to transport from the parking centre. The room gets humid solely because of the cave structure but the AC system is fantastic! You need to order breakfast a day in advance and there is no option for early check in. The hotel is located next to some amazing restaurants and viewpoints. The staff were really friendly and helpful!

All advertising is of cave rooms which we were totally disappointed when shown to a pretty basic room with rubbish air on. The room had everything we needed for a very pleasant stay. The hotel gives you a choice of breakfast in your room or the dining area. We tried both and enjoyed the variety. The view from the hotel is simply stunning with an incredible view of one of the famous stone churches on the hill. All the staff at Hotel Caveoso were helpful and had wonderful tips for dining and touring options. Everything we wanted to see in Matera was within walking distance from the hotel. The deluxe grotto suite was beautiful, spacious and clean. I misunderstood the description thinking there were two beds rather than the actual bed for two people. The staff brought in another comfortable twin bed to solve the issue. The location was perfect- so close to many options for dining and shopping, as well as the bus stop for getting to the off site parking. Breakfast was very good and was made available earlier than usual to accommodate our early departure. I highly recommend this property for anyone visiting Matera!

Aside from the hotel being very nice and comfortable and in a great location, unfortunately we experienced an emergency medical situation that drastically hindered my mobility. They quickly relocated us to a ground floor room as I could not traverse the stairs to our original 2nd floor room, mgmt helped my wife with the luggage while is was in ER and arranged cab service for us from hospital, to pharmacy and back to hotel. They went above and beyond in all regards. A special thanks to Denise who made things much easier for my wife while I was receiving treatment. If in Matera again I will definitely look to book.

Location was the best feature. Our room’s AC couldn’t keep the room cooled so we had to ask for a fan. TheAC was dripping water where we had to dam with towels to keep water from flooding the floor. Toiletries were not replaced and breakfast choices was minimal. We had a balcony which was South facing which we couldn’t use since an umbrella wasn’t available. Our kids stayed at Hotel S’ant Giorgio and it had a lot more charm with dug out cool cellar, lots of food, meat/fruit basket for far less than we paid for in the Caveoso. Will not recommend! We didn’t point out these inconveniences because it should be obvious-soaked towels on the floor, asking for a little more cheese and or coffee?
