My usual hotel appeared to have been fully booked so I decided to give the IJsselhotel, sorry the Pillows Luxury Boutique Hotel Aan De IJssel a try. The location is amazing, right across from the town on the river. To get to the other side there is a small ferry throughout the day. My room was amazing. Incredibly well furnished with high quality gear, comfortable for want of a better word, perfect. The shower(s) are amazingly powerful and the view, in my case over the park, was peaceful. The staff, without fail, were absolutely delightful. I have two criticisms, one was the deafening noise in the restaurant which made it impossible to have a conversation across the table without shouting, both during dinner and at breakfast over the weekend, the other is the drinks situation. I asked for a G&T, preference? Yes Tanqueray please, sorry, we only have 3 types of gin, none of which I had heard of, so opted for the one that was described as "neutral". If I want something flowery I'll go to the florist and eat some roses. The drink that was produced tasted like nothing I had ever tasted before, and not in a good way. The cause seemed to be the tonic water. Disgusting isn't a word I use in reviews but this stuff tasted like diarrhoea smells. I kid you not. I subsequently asked for a gin without tonic which was OK. Fancy is OK but don't forget about the basics. There's nothing wrong with a dry martini made from traditional ingredients in the traditional way.

The view over the river the 'Ijssel' and the church of Deventer. We also felt very welcome, with a very relaxed checkin procedure in the living room. Also the 'a la cart' breakfast is great and prevents waste of food, good thought!

Inchecken ging super snel omdat ik er al vaker heb gelogeerd en omdat ik mijn gegevens al naar het hotel gestuurd had (kreeg en mailtje van het hotel met verzoek om dit te doen. Handig!). Prima kamer al blijf de garderobekast toch een probleem (onhandig geplaatst, weinig ruimte). Ik heb twee avonden in het hotel gegeten, eenmaal alleen, eenmaal met gasten en het is echt een topklasse restaurant, veel uitleg over het menu, prima wijnkaart. Dit is echt een verwen hotel met vriendelijk personeel voor wie geen moeite teveel is om het je naar de zin te maken. De lokatie is natuurlijk uniek.

Schönes Hotel mit klasse Aussicht. Der Empfang ist sehr unkompliziert und äusserst nett. Die Zimmer sind gut, die Bettenqualität excellent. Es ist sehr leise und die Wege sind kurz. Am Wochenende gibt es "nur" ein Überraschunsg Menue, wobei die Menge ausgewählt werden kann, das aber schön und schmackhaft auf den Teller gebracht wird. Der Ausblick auf die Issel und Altstadtkulissen Deventer von der Terrasse und Wintergarten ist wunderbar. Auf der Rückseite schaut man in einen Park. Die nahen Parkplätze sind kostenfrei. Unmittelbar von Hotel geht eine Fähre im 5 Minuten Rythmus über die Issel nach Denevter. (Hin und Rückfahrt 1,70 €) Das Frühstück wird an den Tisch gebracht und ist ok. Allerdings habe ich dreimal Milch für meinen Kaffee bestellt, die dann aber nicht ankam. Aufgrund der Einzeltassenbereitung dauert es auch eine ganze Weile, bis man seinen Kaffee bei einer Nachbestellung erhält. Was nicht so schön war: Der Wasserhahn am Waschbecken ist so tief, dass man seine Hände kaum waschen kann. Zudem lief das Wasser sehr schlecht ab, so dass sich das Waschbecken schnell mit dem alten Wasser füllte. Die Dusche ist in der Badewanne. Die Wanne ist aber so hoch, dass ältere Leuchte Probleme mit dem Ein- und Ausstieg haben dürften. Insgesamt ein sehr schöner Aufenthalt, sehr freundliches Personal in einer sehr schönen Stadt.

Lovely property. Rooms on the ground floor facing the carpark are small and you have to keep the curtains closed. I would stay at the hotel again but NEVER stay on the ground floor facing the park or car park.

Fijne service. Kamer iets kleiner dan op de foto’s zo leek. Het ontbijt is hemels en in een rustgevende, stijlvolle ruimte. De bedden zijn heerlijk: hoog, comfortabel. Het hotel ligt ook heel rustig en op 1 minuut lopen van het pontje over de IJssel.
Fijne service. Kamer iets kleiner dan op de foto’s zo leek. Het ontbijt is hemels en in een rustgevende, stijlvolle ruimte. De bedden zijn heerlijk: hoog, comfortabel. Het hotel ligt ook heel rustig en op 1 minuut lopen van het pontje over de IJssel.

Am Wochenende gibt es "nur" ein Überraschunsg Menue, wobei die Menge ausgewählt werden kann, das aber schön und schmackhaft auf den Teller gebracht wird. Der Ausblick auf die Issel und Altstadtkulissen Deventer von der Terrasse und Wintergarten ist wunderbar. Auf der Rückseite schaut man in einen Park. Die nahen Parkplätze sind kostenfrei. Unmittelbar von Hotel geht eine Fähre im 5 Minuten Rythmus über die Issel nach Denevter. (Hin und Rückfahrt 1,70 €) Das Frühstück wird an den Tisch gebracht und ist ok. Allerdings habe ich dreimal Milch für meinen Kaffee bestellt, die dann aber nicht ankam. Aufgrund der Einzeltassenbereitung dauert es auch eine ganze Weile, bis man seinen Kaffee bei einer Nachbestellung erhält. Was nicht so schön war: Der Wasserhahn am Waschbecken ist so tief, dass man seine Hände kaum waschen kann. Zudem lief das Wasser sehr schlecht ab, so dass sich das Waschbecken schnell mit dem alten Wasser füllte. Die Dusche ist in der Badewanne. Die Wanne ist aber so hoch, dass ältere Leuchte Probleme mit dem Ein- und Ausstieg haben dürften. Insgesamt ein sehr schöner Aufenthalt, sehr freundliches Personal in einer sehr schönen Stadt.

Inchecken ging super snel omdat ik er al vaker heb gelogeerd en omdat ik mijn gegevens al naar het hotel gestuurd had (kreeg en mailtje van het hotel met verzoek om dit te doen. Handig!). Prima kamer al blijf de garderobekast toch een probleem (onhandig geplaatst, weinig ruimte). Ik heb twee avonden in het hotel gegeten, eenmaal alleen, eenmaal met gasten en het is echt een topklasse restaurant, veel uitleg over het menu, prima wijnkaart. Dit is echt een verwen hotel met vriendelijk personeel voor wie geen moeite teveel is om het je naar de zin te maken. De lokatie is natuurlijk uniek.

Mooi hotel op een prachtige lokatie. Ruime comfortabele kamer met schitterend uitzicht op de IJssel. Prima ontbijt, goed concept. Geen buffet, maar a la carte. Personeel kan nog wat meer training krijgen in omgaan met gasten. Voor een deel te wijten aan verkeerde mentaliteit en voor een deel aan onervarenheid/training. Dat moet voor die prijs beter. Daardoor maakt het hotel de pretenties niet helemaal waar.

My usual hotel appeared to have been fully booked so I decided to give the IJsselhotel, sorry the Pillows Luxury Boutique Hotel Aan De IJssel a try. The location is amazing, right across from the town on the river. To get to the other side there is a small ferry throughout the day. My room was amazing. Incredibly well furnished with high quality gear, comfortable for want of a better word, perfect. The shower(s) are amazingly powerful and the view, in my case over the park, was peaceful. The staff, without fail, were absolutely delightful. I have two criticisms, one was the deafening noise in the restaurant which made it impossible to have a conversation across the table without shouting, both during dinner and at breakfast over the weekend, the other is the drinks situation. I asked for a G&T, preference? Yes Tanqueray please, sorry, we only have 3 types of gin, none of which I had heard of, so opted for the one that was described as "neutral". If I want something flowery I'll go to the florist and eat some roses. The drink that was produced tasted like nothing I had ever tasted before, and not in a good way. The cause seemed to be the tonic water. Disgusting isn't a word I use in reviews but this stuff tasted like diarrhoea smells. I kid you not. I subsequently asked for a gin without tonic which was OK. Fancy is OK but don't forget about the basics. There's nothing wrong with a dry martini made from traditional ingredients in the traditional way.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel in Deventer, Netherlands. The hotel was very comfortable, clean, and in a great location close to shops and restaurants, which made everything so convenient.
