Capsis Astoria is a solid mid-to-upper tier hotel offering great value for its prime location in the heart of Heraklion’s vibrant center. I cannot comment on the breakfast or in-house restaurant as I dined elsewhere. While the overall stay was enjoyable, a few areas fell short of expectations: - Water & Amenities: Despite a 5-night stay, complimentary bottled water was only provided on day one (though room service brought more after I left a written note). Furthermore, the shower features basic wall-mounted "hair & body wash" dispensers rather than proper toiletries or soap. - Laundry Costs: Laundry service is exorbitantly priced (e.g., €3 for a single pair of socks). Most guests will want to use a laundromat down the street or hand-wash items. - Pool Hours & Setup: The rooftop pool is a highlight, but it closes early at 18:00 despite the rooftop bar remaining open for food and drinks until late evening. Extending pool access under a "swim at your own risk" policy would be a huge improvement. The pool area is also tightly packed with seating, which can feel a bit crowded. Staff did allow my friends to use the pool even after check-out. Room allocation can also be a toss-up; my room featured a fantastic balcony overlooking the bustling plaza, while my travel companions did not get outdoor space. Overall, a great, convenient base in Heraklion - just be mindful of limited pool hours and avoid the laundry fees.
