A comfortable hotel with basic amenities. No elevator, which was challenging with big bags. Very good mattress and shower. Overall a good experience.

I booked Oaktown Roost to see a show at nearby Paramount Theater sight unseen on the strength of the reviews. The neighborhood has some grit, but you should know that Downtown Oakland has that mixture of people making their way through life. Choosing compassion rather than fear will change your perspective. The hotel itself is a gem! Delightfully appointed with thoughtful decor choices and some top-tier renovations. A courtyard mezzanine with string light illumination and patio seating is a common area. 7 of the available rooms have their entrances right on this courtyard! The front desk staff are warm and helpful in helping you get around or find a good bite to eat. Highly recommend for a “hidden gem” boutique hotel experience.

Everything was great. Except the stairs. This hotel needs a pulley lift for luggage. If you’re incapable of carrying your heavy luggage for 2 flights of stairs don’t book this hotel. Otherwise beautiful historic building. Nice staff!

The room and the hotel were clean and quiet. It was exactly what I needed for a brief stay. There are a coffee shops in a couple block radius for an easy morning meal. I would absolutely stay there again.
