Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites Valparaiso by IHG

They were renovating while I was there, so there was a lot of noise and mess. Additionally, you couldn’t get from the lobby to the hotel rooms, you had to exit and enter a different door because of the renovation in process. Would have been nice to get a heads up on that considering the price I paid for a room.

Booked a suite for our wedding both to use for getting ready, and to stay the night of our wedding. At no time during our booking did the staff inform us that the hotel was undergoing renovations. The pool and a large majority of the hotel was closed to guests. I was highly disappointed, as we had family with children in town for the wedding, and specifically asked me about a hotel with a pool. There was no coffee the first morning my inlaws stayed and breakfast was surved only at the front counter, with no seating. On the day we checked in, the staff called about payment prior to our arrival, yet upon our arrival, Jessica the women at the front desk we extremly rude and unprofessional. They were unable to provide us with room keys. The only way they could check us into the room was if one of the staff personally escorted us to our room, but no one was available at that moment to do so. So standing there with my wedding dress in hand, inbetween our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner was terribly irritating! Being understanding about the construction, it was still difficult for my fiancés elderly grandma to navigate the main floor with the uneven demolished flooring. My bridesmaids where whistled at by the construction workers, and were made to feel very uncomfortable. Sadly this was the worst experience, and even more unfortunate ir was our wedding.

Pool / hot tub clean and well maintained. Breakfast was good- staff attended to refilling as needed. Rooms clean and comfortable.

Hotel was under construction. This should have been mentioned when booking but it wasn’t. One elevator was not working.

There was very loud construction/renovation occurring within the hotel. The pool was closed, the fitness center closed, no continental breakfast - but this wasn’t something that I knew about when booking, but had to find out about after arriving. The price was charged for a hotel with amenities but there were no amenities. Also, we ran out of toilet paper and the front desk only had napkins for us to use.

Only thing I would say is wish the hot tub worked, otherwise everything was great!

This hotel is undergoing a complete renovation, unable to access the lobby to the elevators. Very inconvenient and would not have stayed there if I knew this in advance

The room was very nice and clean!

There is a hole in the floor on the 3rd floor covered by carpet. The curtains in the room had something growing on them. Inside the air conditioner there were unstoppable beads thrown in the vent to provide a better smell in the room. Hair and dust covered everything. The pool and hot tub had hair in it when we exited the pool we had someone else’s hair on us. Overall not clean.

Very comfortable beds. Bathroom was impeccably clean. The only negative comment I could make is that the carpet in the room had numerous spots and stains on it and the curtains were stained and need to be cleaned. Otherwise I was satisfied with my stay.

Renovated hotel but does show a little wear. The tub was a little grimy but the shower head was nice. The tub was very slippery and could use some traction strips. Overall very comfortable, good WiFi. The breakfast staff were very kind and engaging. It's a quiet area and seemed safe.

Above average from what I would expect from this level of hotel. Clean, quiet, comfortable. They were excellent in all categories.

They also were upset at the fact I booked through Expedia and made me enroll as a member without asking me first and guised it as "so you can get your rewards next time." Room was dusty and the pillows still smelled like someones head was on it before.

There was construction. That’s why i rated cleaniness low. Should have been told prior to check in and or offer a discount. No ice machine was working, the tv had a black 3 inch line down it. Breakfast was really good. Most of the stafff was helpful and friendly rooms big nice and clean.

Front desk lady was super helpful and fun, the breakfast lady was a blast and so friendly. We enjiyed the pool and the comfy beds.

Bed was comfortable and supportive. The room lighting was easy to use. I enjoyed the chase lounge chair for reading!

Bed is hard and gymn small. Otherwise rooms are spacious and modern. Hotel was very clean. Bathroom shower did have crack in wall and shower head had little water pressure

The only thing I thought was a negative and odd that there was no usb ports in our room. Every hotel I have stayed in so far has had this convenience for guests. I did not mention it, so perhaps there were other rooms that had them but only staying one night so it was not a major problem this stay.

Clean room,great staff, awesome hot breakfast and comfy bed. My only complaint would be the tv viewing. Need better channels.

My deadbolt lock did not work. The WiFi did not work. Room was humid and damp even with ac running. Always a long wait to check in. Not terrible but not impressed by anything.

The lighting in the room was very poor

Our room appeared to have been recently updated. Upon entering, we noticed that everything seemed to be new and quite tidy. However, when you entered the bathroom it was easy to see that things did not seem to be finished. The tub and sink areas were fine but the kick boards in several spots did not fit correctly, some pieces were missing and a couple spots of wall paper were peeling up. There was also numerous paint splashes on the back of the door. Overall none of this affected our stay but these items should be addressed.

I’m trying to decide which was more lukewarm. My reception or the shower temp. Also, TV is horrendous here. Basic cable, no button on the remote to get to the guide. Forced to scroll at a snail’s pace through a million commercials to figure out what’s on.

Our neighbors came in after our very tired family had hit the hay, and while it technically wasn't at "quiet hours" it was after 8 pm, and they were so loud it literally startled us all awake. We could even hear their conversations almost perfectly clear through the walls later into the night. It didn't lead to a very relaxing evening. The front desk employee apologized but promptly dismissed our alert to the noise. Pillows were very comfy. Fitness center room was stiflingly hot.

Check in clerk was friendly but seemed more concerned about getting my email for rewards than just getting us checked in and then card reader declined my credit card - took the time to call the credit card and no issue with my card …. Seemed to be user error on check in clerk …. Just made for a long check in Breakfast wasn’t up to standard from other holiday inns - just seemed like less choices and just not stocked well overall

Amazing staff. Clean room!

The property was great, room was comfortable however the staff at the front desk was rude because I used expedia and was not a holiday inn member. Actually I am but being last minute I chose expedia. They were giving cold bottles of water to "members" and we were not allow to put two candy bars on our room because we were third party members. It was very rude and I feel we were not treated well. I will not go back unfortunately.

This is a great stop for me in Valpo. I travel from Anderson IN to visit different areas up here for meetings. Valpo, Portage, Chesterton and Michigan City. Perfect stop. This Holiday Inn Express has great staff.

The front desk attendant was very helpful and friendly.

The room was nice and clean, but the best part was the breakfast lady. She was very welcoming and friendly. Definitely the kind of spirit you need to start your busy day.

Everything was great until cleaning ladies came banging on the door at 9 am. I was in the shower so could not answer the door. They tried to get in the room and could not since the top lock was up. They banged for a solid 5 mins. If checkout is at 11 why are they banging on the door like they’re the police 2 hrs before.

We have stayed at this hotel 3 times in the past 3 years. They do offer a hot breakfast that is good, easy parking and check in was fast and simple. Attractions aren’t too far and good restaurants are nearby. Those are all pluses in my opinion and the area and hotel are safe. The downside is the property is in desperate need of a real update. The walls leading to our room we very cracked and the paint was peeling. Our room had some issues as well. The walls and paint in the bathroom were peeling and the shades for the white curtains were stained. The ceiling in our room had cracks and chipped paint as well. My only other issue was room service didn’t come during our visit and I noticed other guest asking for clean towels during our stay as we did too. I was a little disappointed because the rooms used to be much better. Hopefully the hotel takes reviews serious and considers updating the property and every room there.

Super convient location. Lots of meal options and Walmart nearby. Fridge and microwave in room. Location is undergoing renovation--our bathroom had several areas of blue painters tape showing how recent-- however, housekeeping did good job cleaning otherwise. Breakfast had good options. Staff pleasant. We brought our 3 kids, had 2 queen beds and one pull out sofa bed. No complaints from any of us. Would stay again.

Exploring Valparaiso so this hotel is just minutes away from downtown and easy in and out..

It was ok. I’m all about staying at a place that offers a good breakfast. I’ve stayed at plenty of HIE hotels. I was there with my child for a cheer competition. The pool was nice. The hot tub was lukewarm bath water at best. The breakfast was just ok. The toaster didn’t work and when I was down there was no milk. Other than that it was decent.

We had a great stay, room was clean and staff were very friendly. The breakfast was delicious.

We chose Holiday Inn Express due to location, free breakfast, and the very reasonable rates. Very pleased overall, especially with the hot breakfast and friendly breakfast attendant.

Not much hot water, grab bar was loose, out of many things at the breakfast bar - including plates. Quite a few disclaimers and rules were given verbally to everyone who was checking in. Wouldn't be on my list to stay here again.

We picked this hotel based on its location to our baseball tournaments. We always pick hotels with complementary breakfast for ease of serving breakfast to our family on the go. Unfortunately, the breakfast staff appeared to have not shown up this morning. There was no hot food, coffee ran out, and no staff to help with the morning meal. I tried to ask the front desk staff for more coffee, but they were not around.
