Hotel lovely, good location, superb beds BUT, Pool area not available till 10am and have to que behind the gate. Have to pay for safe and kettle but free vanity kit, comb and toothbrush, pencil and notepad, not very sustainable. Also tea by the pool in a small paper cup. Small things maybe but this was our third Spanish holiday this year and never had to wait till 10am to sit and read in the early sunshine. It's a shame but definitely will not return to this hotel.

The location of this hotel is fantastic. Staff super friendly and helpful. Good choices for breakfast and bar and pool area nice and well maintained. Only small drawback was the parking, it’s not owned by the hotel. I used the talk to us service to see if I could purchase a weekly ticket. Was told no and I would need to pay each and every time I left/arrived. Decided to leave the car parked up for the week. Over €160 for parking alone. Would even have been nice to get a discounted rate through the hotel but nothing available.

Nicely refurbished hotel on the sea front, just a 14 minute walk into the old town. We had a junior suite which was lovely however to use the safe you had to pay extra. The pool area is gated and does not open until 10am which we felt was quite ridiculous. By 9.45am there was a large queue of people waiting to get a sunbed. It’s hot enough to be by the pool much earlier so why restrict the entry time? This has put us off returning to a Barceló hotel. Breakfast was ok, rather tasteless, and the coffee was poor.

Pros: The full sea view is a must. We experienced beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and the soothing sound of the waves. It costs you extra, but it is worth it. The location is perfect in every aspect. The sea is right in front, but being slightly apart from the ”beach street” (50 m?) gives a welcome distance from the traffic. Also, it is at the quieter end of the beach, away from the busiest restaurants and clubs. We enjoyed the breakfast very much, especially the omelettes that were prepared on order. Also, you can see the sea and the sunrise from the restaurant. A very clean hotel, with very attentive, friendly and helpful staff (cleaners, reception, restaurant). The taxi station is 1 minute away, with reliable and affordables taxis, giving quick and stress-free access to e.g. Mijas Pueblo and airport. Cons: The gym was a disappointment, as well as the heated pool (more like a bathtub). Also, as a weary traveller arriving from 4000 km away, you don’t want to hear ”if you want to use the safety box in your room, it will cost you extra” in the first sentences at the reception! I have nothing against the person who said it, he was doing his job, I’m complaining about the process itself. Using the safety box is a ”must have”. It is not ”an added-value extra”, which comes as a surprise. Nevertheless, all in all it is a great hotel, and I highly recommend it.

Veldig flott hotell med stilig interiør i behagelige farger både inne og ute. Stort uteområde med god plass og fint basseng. Vi bodde i junior suite i topp etasjen. Veldig fin junior suite med kjekk balkong og hav utsikt. Lydtett slik at en ikke hørte folk i gangene. Litt mangelfull daglig rengjøring på benken på badet og under sengen ( mye støv ). Greit treningssenter med greit utvalg av treningsapparater. Skulle kanskje ha vært mer enn 1 tredemølle ? Trente hver dag. Litt mangelfull rengjøring også der. Ved gulv trening på den svarte gulvmatten (ved den blå trenings benken) og området rundt var det småstein og litt sand. Lys og fin frokostsal. Meget stort pluss at en kunne sitte ute og nyte sol og frokost samtidig. Frokost buffeen hadde variert og godt utvalg, men savnet grønne salat/ruccola/grønne blader/paprika/fetaost. Personalet i resepsjonen var hyggelig og profesjonelle. Ekstra hyggelig var personalet i frokost salen, både servitører og kokkene. Alt i alt ble hotelloppholdet vårt en meget god opplevelse og dette hotellet vil nok bli en favoritt og vi vil komme igjen.

Igen et fantastisk ophold. Det er tredie gang vi var der og kommer helt sikkert igen. Selv om det er et stort hotel, så mærker man ikke de mange gæster fordi der er så store arealer at opholde sig på. Kun til den fantastiske morgenmad er der mange mennesker. The hotel looks lovely from the outside but my room was on the first floor which was so noisy, guests shouting slamming doors at 1am most nights. I had an infestation of ants in my room so had to be moved to another room on the 8th floor at 1am which was clean but wind howling thought the vents. I didn’t manage to get a good nights sleep for the 6 day duration. I witnessed vomit in the reception area and the service is non existent. The only way to get a coffee in the hotel is to get it yourself there is no waiter service. I would not recommend unless you are a group of guys on a golfing trip.

Great clean room and change of towels each day. Partial sea view room has exactly that but seems to be new furniture on it. Comfy bed. Kettle & fridge provided but charge €3 per day for safe! Wish other people would stop letting their doors bang early in the morning. Great breakfast with everything you would need. Good location with lots of restaurants nearby. Would say pool area needs more cleaning. Tables at sunloungers are not cleaned & rubbish from previous day still there. Would return

Hotel is in a great location, I would say in the nicer end of the town. We went for a deluxe room with side seating view. I would say it was worth paying the extra for as you get one of the higher floors (we were on the 8th floor). Even a back facing room though would have Mountain Views. I sleep with a low pillow so I particularly valued the pillow menu where you could pick whatever pillow type you prefer. Everywhere was spotlessly clean at the hotel, the reception lounge sitting area was nice, as wee the outdoor lounging bar area and pool area. The breakfast buffet was good, I wouldn’t necessarily say great but was more than adequate. I would definitely use this hotel if I was in Fuengirola, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

The staff are very kind and helpful. The room is clean and spacious; perhaps the only negative for us was that the bed was very soft, but of course that’s a matter of personal preference and what one is used to. The breakfast is extremely generous and varied. I highly recommend the hotel to everyone!

The hotel was fine in appearance and the room was standard. The breakfast was too busy and chaotic. The chef cooking the eggs was poor with badly prepared food. The room was very hot. When I asked reception to get someone to look at our air conditioning, I was informed that the hotel can provide either hot or cold air, as it was cool outside, they were only providing hot air to keep the hotel warm. We had to leave the patio door wide open all night to get any sleep. Overall, the hotel is very average and far too busy for the facilities available.

This was our second day at the Occidental, unfortunately that air-conditioning was not working for our day which we were not made aware of on check in. Our room was ready early when we arrived and we were allocated to the ninth floor with a balcony and partial sea view which was very nice. Unfortunately without Aircon, it was just too hot at night even with the patio doors open so we did struggle to sleep. I do have an outside food bar and drinks bar. The sun lounges are comfortable and they provide towels. The occidental is in a great location. We got the train from Malaga airport to Fuengirola and then walked with our cases to the hotel which was about 10 to 15 minutes away. There is plenty to do within walking distance of this hotel.

Buffet was terrible, both breakfast and dinner. Location not great… NO AIR CONDITIONING. I was told they turn it off for winter but we have travelled world wide and never had this happen until Spain. There winter months are hot and guests who paid should have a option to use

Too many people. Crowded & we were initially given a room with a terrible view right next to the A/C ventilators & over a parking lot. I paid for a superior room so I was so disappointed. Luckily I asked for another room on the second day & the kind Manager moved us to a much better room. But still at about 4am there were drunk men yelling in the hallways.

Hotel is in a great location, I would say in the nicer end of the town. We went for a deluxe room with side seating view. I would say it was worth paying the extra for as you get one of the higher floors (we were on the 8th floor). Even a back facing room though would have Mountain Views. I sleep with a low pillow so I particularly valued the pillow menu where you could pick whatever pillow type you prefer. Everywhere was spotlessly clean at the hotel, the reception lounge sitting area was nice, as wee the outdoor lounging bar area and pool area. The breakfast buffet was good, I wouldn’t necessarily say great but was more than adequate. I would definitely use this hotel if I was in Fuengirola, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

3rd Visit to Occidental and wasn’t up to usual standards. Some staff seemed inconvenienced when asking for information about the hotel. Had a suite on 6th floor of Tower 2 which looked tired and was noisy at night as balcony doors didn’t keep road noise out. Queues for the lifts were really bad at times. Restaurants, swimming pool area and communal toilet cleanliness could not be faulted.

This is a fantastic hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff from the get go. It is in a very good location, with only a 10-15 min walk into the heart of the town. I loved the cleanliness and feel of the hotel. The breakfast was fantastic, in both terms of choice and quality. Great proximity to the beach also and makes a good choice for both couples and families alike.

The staff was rude to my aunt when she was asking basic questions. David and Nuela could have been more respectful in addressing some issues. She asked if they had a spa and were on the beach since the pool closes at 8pm and the reply was did the hotel advertise these amenities. That’s not courteous nor professional. A no would have been sufficient.

The staff in the restaurant, pool, bar staff were all exceptional. They made such a fuss of us and our little baby boy and always were smiling and friendly. The reception staff on the other hand were rude, unwilling to help and every question “/query seemed like a chore for them to answer. Breakfast buffet every morning was outstanding with a fantastic variety of hot, cold or Mediterranean style breakfast items. Rooms were very clean and cleaning staff were also very friendly. The only downside was having the pool only open at 9.30am. As we were awake with a baby at 7am every morning we had usually had our breakfast by 8am and were waiting around for it to open. An enjoyable trip in a great location.

The friendly staff checked us in quickly and on our arrival to our room we fond a bottle of Cava and chocolates! This is my second stay (I had to bring my wife to take in the beachfront atmosphere and great location for exploring the shops, bars and restaurants along the beach walkway). We even walked to the castle! Thanks to all the staff at Occidental Fuengirola!

Nicely refurbished hotel on the sea front, just a 14 minute walk into the old town. We had a junior suite which was lovely however to use the safe you had to pay extra. The pool area is gated and does not open until 10am which we felt was quite ridiculous. By 9.45am there was a large queue of people waiting to get a sunbed. It’s hot enough to be by the pool much earlier so why restrict the entry time? This has put us off returning to a Barceló hotel. Breakfast was ok, rather tasteless, and the coffee was poor.

The staff are very kind and helpful. The room is clean and spacious; perhaps the only negative for us was that the bed was very soft, but of course that’s a matter of personal preference and what one is used to. The breakfast is extremely generous and varied. I highly recommend the hotel to everyone!

Hotel room junior suite was great and breakfast but sadly evening meal wasn’t good … not in English so had to google to see what were eating and was very Mediterranean so not to our taste. That’s only thing that spoiled our stay… we ended up eating out although we’d paid for half board.
