Riu Yucatan - All Inclusive

Great beach, but need more beach umbrellas and small fountains to wash off sand from the feet. Huge plus of this hotel that you don’t need reservations to the restaurants, no wait line. Buffet is very good, restaurants are very good , except Mexican. Shows are professional. Big disadvantage : guests from Riu Tequila are using the beach and buffet for lunch, so it is becoming VERY crowded. That is why hotel should put more sun umbrellas around the beach and pool areas. But otherwise definitely would come back.

This was a very nice property. Location and setting both inside and outside the property were very nice. Close to playa and a nice little shopping center. The walk to the pool/beach had a nice path to see monkeys and other wildlife. Beach was beautiful. Windy weather churned up the seaweed and cleaning up activities were going on every day. Mother Nature. The pool areas were packed with people. Many activities going on. Make sure to save your spots by 8 am as they fill up both by pool and beach. The pool did get floating material or scum in parts as the day wore on. Could have someone skimming it out. Food was good. Steak house has a nice juicy rib eye. Great egg rolls and pot stickers in the Asian. Buffet always had a nice variety. Sushi one night was very good. Staff was friendly. The whole place had a friendly vibe about it. Many bars around so never very far from a drink. Smoking around the resort was transitioning to the the new laws. They were installing two smoking locations that this is where it will be permitted. Rooms were clean and well stocked with liquor and other drinks in the fridge. The open bathroom concept meant no privacy showering Beds were very comfortable but on the harder side. The only negative I had was the drinks. They use processed fruit purée for many of the drinks. And this tended to my taste to be way overly sweet. By the end of the week I was searching for something that wasn’t sweet. Overall very nice for the money.

Nice all inclusive resort. Service is great but options on property could be better. Only 2 specialty dining restaurants and menus are always the same. Pools and hot tub aren’t heated so not very comfortable going swimming in winter months

My party of six stayed at the Riu Yucatan the last week in Jan 2025. Overall, we had a good time. Here are some of the Pro’s and Con’s: Pro: Beach. One of the most beautiful we have seen in 20 years of international all-inclusive resorts. Pools. They were clean. However, they did need some maintenance (many missing tiles, cracks in concrete edge, etc). The foam party was a favorite. Resort size. Small enough to walk, large enough for a decent size pools. Shared privileges with two other resorts within walking distance. We went to a Neon Party at the Tequila (it was awesome) ! Shopping is also walking distance. Room . Very clean rooms. Housekeeping did a very nice job. It was nice to have a coffee maker in the room. Staff. All attentive and polite. Staff, in charge of activities, did a great job. Con: Alcohol. No top-shelf spirits (no Grey Goose, Tito’s, or Absolut vodka). Management says that you need to stay in a higher tier resort for that luxury. Food. Plentiful and tasty. Although, a little redundant after 7 days. The specialty restaurants were average. It was nice to not need a reservation for any of them. Elevator. None. They have it on their website but you may miss it. The room buildings are three floors. Sounds like there is limited king-size beds on the ground floor. If you are going for the beach and ocean view, I highly recommend. If you are going for the pool, you might want to shop around.

I really enjoyed the nightly Entertainment and the pool foam party. The lobby and common areas were nice, however, there is no air conditioning or elevators. My room was a nice distance from the lobby and restaurants, so I definitely did alot of walking during my stay which was fine. I really didn’t care for the food at the Italian restaurant, and the steak restaurant was my fave. The breakfast and dinner buffets were just okay. The beach and pool were nice but a bit crowded for me so I opted to take the 15 min ride to Maroma Beach which is beautiful, clean and quiet. All in all I enjoyed RIU Yucatan. It was great for the price but I think next time I’d stay at RIU Palace Riviera Maya again. The Palace is a bit pricier but well worth it!!!

Just returned from a 5 night stay at the Riu Yucatan. Over all the place was great. Staff was friendly, grounds were kept up and beautiful. Drinks were good for being an all inclusive and the beach was beautiful. They gave us a free up grade to a room closer to the beach and pool. While moving our belongings to the new room they accidentally dropped a bottle of alcohol we had purchased at the airport. The staff was very apologetic and wanted to compensate us. They offered us a bottle of alcohol from the bar but we declined, they ended up giving us two vouchers for free massages. The down side of a great vacation was the pools were dirty they could def been cleaned better and/or throughout the day. Around the edges of the pools there was a greenish foam and different things floating. The food was okay but not great. Pretty much the same food everyday and if you’re hungry late night there are no options.

Great location. Service is awesome and the all inclusive options allows you to relax even more. Several free water sports included (kayak,catamaran sailing, body board). The food is good but too touristy for my taste. Lack of truly Mexican food and vegan food. A natural juice / smoothie bar beyond breakfast would be great. Excellent work keeping the sargassum at bay (or out of it) . It would be good if there was a door between the room and the lavatory.

RIU Yucatán is located in a private , gated community. It is all inclusive with a buffet, and several specialty restaurants including Mexican , Italian and Steak House. It is a beautiful resort that is meticulously maintained. It's beach is one of the best I've ever visited. Daily entertainment. Staff is friendly and attentive. Rooms have programable safes. You have exchange privileges with 3 other RIU properties near by. Small shopping area with in walking distance.

1. The pool water was too hot. 2. Not enough pool area making it crowded. 3. The gym was extremely outdated and small. 4. The steak and Mexican restaurants were not air conditioned. 5. No elevator access. 6. The food was slightly above average.

I really loved this resort. Only con was no elevator.

This place was amazing they just need to work on the cleaning of this hotel that is included the pools but other then that had an amazing time 😊

While the area was fine, the staff was great. The pools weren’t always clean.. the pool by the lobby was clean, but the pool by the ocean was dirty every day.

The room was over scented, but exceptionally clean and the staff was very pleasant. Anyone I encountered in the walkways was courteous and greeted me.

I have been to a number of Riu hotels, this stay was the worst experience. Although the beach and sea are great, there were number of issues during our stay. In the dining areas, dishes were dirty, broken and/or disformed. Breakfast "fresh" juices were so diluted that one could barely tell the flavor (it got better after talking to cooks and concierge) Restaurants and salad bars are very UNDERSTAFFED. TOWELS: beach towels were stained and room towels were not clean, or smelled fresh, not to mention horrible color. Bed sheets were old and stained as well. Shower was clogged and one attempt to fix it did not help. Our room fridge was barely refilled and we had to go to lobby to get water bottles for ourself(as we were told by concierge) Shower by the beach does not have head for feet washing, so when its windy its very difficult to wash off sand. If you choose to go to this particular RIU adjust your expectation accordingly. We have talked to management, hopefully their issues will be addressed.

Our stay was very nice in RIU Yucatan, food is good however there is some room for improvement: Shortage of personnel in restaurants make the service slow. The hotel is old and need some updates in bedrooms furniture. Pool borders need repair. Also water filters may need some maintenance, water specially in pool bar looks dirty, one time it had to be closed due to dirty water.

Pool has improper maintenance and has green algae. Rooms are outdated, AC did not work properly and maintenance was not willing to resolve it. Service was good but pool and rooms need to be complete redone.

Pretty average hotel experience- don’t expect anything too luxurious. The aesthetic of the resort is outdated with an early 00s vibe, including the rooms which had almost florescent lighting and probably one of the least comfortable beds I’ve had in a hotel recently. Wouldn’t recommend for a solo traveler as it seems to be more popular for families or couples. Food at the buffet wasn’t the greatest quality but also wasn’t terrible. Loved the location- sitting on the balcony felt like being in a jungle and the beach area was great. About a 40 min walk into Playa del Carmen which can feel long but very safe. Staff were all very friendly.

Absolutely loved our stay. The rooms could use some updating but were very clean. Felt very safe. Beach was beautiful. Great entertainment and feeding the monkeys was a highlight!

Really dated rooms we’d stayed in other riu hotels on the area but they don’t expend money updating the rooms outside facilities great but the rooms

My family and I didn’t like the bathrooms in the room because it didn’t have a door and the shower was a clear door. So every time one of our teen children wanted to shower people had to go wait on the on the balcony

The food options for the price paid is a good value. The liquor options are sorely lacking. Nothing even average is offered. They can't even make drinks properly because they don't have the right liquors needed. The rooms really need updated. Only one outlet in the living area to charge electronics is woefully inadequate. The room cleaners need to stay put of people's stuff. I let them clean my room one day and they went through my stuff that was zipped up and closed. I did not get my room cleaned again for fear of stuff being stolen. That is completely unnecessary for guests to have to deal with. I've stayed at other Riu properties in the past, and this was the most disappointing experience compared to the others.

Food was average. Rooms clean but clearly aged. I.e. hard water deposits on sink etc. Pool and beach area very crowded and difficult to get loungers. Arriving by 9 am and all spots "reserved" with towels but no one there. Some people seemed to reserve both pool and beach areas. Pool was like warm bathwater and not refreshing at all. Lobby area was very hot with no AC. This was even worse because there was no breeze or air flow. Just dead air. Very uncomfortable.

(I am very familiar with RIU) The property was overall good. There isn't much AC in places besides the room so be prepared to be hot. The specialty restaurants are outside making it a little uncomfortable while eating. The rooms need some remodeling but they get the job done. The buffets were better than the restaurants. The bars and staff were super helpful and friendly. Overall a good stay, and you get what you pay for.

Ubicado en buena zona, pese a que no tiene vista al mar, es muy agradable que está lleno de zonas verdes y con algunos animales a la intemperie (coatis y simios). No me agradó que al ser un hotel ya obsoleto, tengan descuidados detalles de pintura o básicos como una buena cama (colchón) sábanas y toallas muy viejas. El servicio del personal bien pero les falta tener más empleados, ya que no había nada de meseros a los alrededores de la alberca (algo común en esta cadena hotelera), ni suficientes meseros. Los últimos días fatal los restaurantes ya que no se dieron abasto con la comida y tardaban demasiado en preparar

Entry door had a huge crack (about an inch wide)and air conditioner didn’t cool the room as it supposed to

Restrooms have no doors and showers have glass doors. No privacy at all. Toilet room is super tiny and you literally have to walk in sideways through the door to be able to get into the tiny toilet room. Not conviniéndole at all. The food was mid. Nothing that really stood out. The only thing I liked was the rock show one of the nights. Drinks were also mid. I think I will try something other than a RIU next time.

The property location, cleanness, beach access, entertainment all get 5Stars, however, management (Javier) gets a zero as well as the reception staff for their inability and refusal (getting the round about) to help and assist their guest solve problems. There was a short in the room and my wife was shocked (left without power), most critical was when the security removed our backpack and sandals from beach chair when we were in the water and the phone was missing. Front desk staff and management (Javier) did not do anything other than to give excuses. The hotel had no right taking or touching my stuff at the beach and then take no responsibility when phone was missing. they offered a taxi to police station hours later requiring me to take more time off my vacation. The hotel was at fault and did NOT take any action. when I asked next day for incident report they had to type one because a report was never filed. Your stay will be pleasant as long as you don't have an issue or security takes your stuff without permission (and your phone goes missing).

The evening entertainment was poor. Restaurant staff is crabby. Reserved a room with 2 queens and got a King - we needed 2 queens thats why we reserved that! Didnt have one so we had to change rooms the next day. Disappointing

Great check in room was clean love the food we encountered a miss understanding with Melisa she was rude unpolished the way she handled things but everyone else was great service like Betty from the bar.

RIU Yucatan was great. Food was very good and drinks even better. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

RIU Yucatan was a good place to stay. On the upside, the kitchen workers kept the place very clean, there was a good variety of food for my 4 night stay, the optional restaurants were good and provided freshly cooked steak and seafood at 2 of the restaurants ("Sicilia" Italian restaurant "La Margarita" steakhouse.) I had the ribeye at La Margarita and the Salmon at Sicilia, the Salmon was very good and the ribeye was okay. The grounds were kept up very well and the pool experience and entertainment were very good. If there was a downside I would say the optional restaurants were under-staffed and don't expect to get checked into your room until 3PM, we got in very early (8am) but waited until around 3 for our room. Unlike Baja many of the workers don't speak or understand english well, although they were all very respectful and tried to help. I would stay at RIU Yucatan again,

My favorite thing about the hotel was the location. The property is located in a safe location with guards before entering the neighborhood. We rented a car so it made it easy to get everywhere, highly recommend. The pool closes at 7pm fyi, even though they initially told us it closed at 8pm my 11 year old found that upsetting. I let them know about the misinformation but they didnt care and really couldnt tell me what time the pool closed. Pools should stay opened until 10pm at least. Close your drapes because the ac in the room was preset, so be preparred for the room to be a little hot especially after a day in the sun. The food was below average besides the steak house. There was alot of reheated food at the buffet, everything was dry and overcooked. Unfortunately had to throw alot away. RIU do better, quality control. Recommend the lemonade at the bar. Recommend the party on Friday that was fun. Recommend the Michael Jackson show on Sunday. The hotel for cost..not worth it, keep looking.

Such a great experience here! This hotel is so great, has everything we needed / wanted for our vacation. The beach was spectacular and the location of the hotel is witching a gated neighborhood and super safe. Everything was within walking distance and a taxi ride to PDC center (5ta Avenida) is like 5 mins / $8. The facility is clean, everyone was super nice and attentive and the food here was the best resort food I’ve had in my life. Highly recommend this hotel!!

Very nice and enjoyable for the family. Food options were great and was in walking distance of the nearby plaza.

Overall, a nice week away. Lovely beach and pools. Buffet food was good and lots to choose from. A la carte restaurants were disappointing. Not the quality you would expect. Entertainment was also disappointing. Not enough local culture. No Mexican dancers or mariachi bands at night. Diva show, Michael Jackson show and Karaoke were disappointing. So much better talent in Mexico.

Breakfast buffet had a big selection but was the SAME EVERYDAY that I could see. Lunch buffet also had a good selection but again, usually the same offerings. Dinner options were more plentiful....'al a carte' Sicilian, Asian or steak. We chose the Italian but wasn't exactly 'fantastic'. We also had the Asian and there was a pretty good selection of food but the sushi portion was small. Fountain drinks were weak in all areas. The bars were well staffed for the most part and the servers very friendly and enthusiastic! Our room, which was a Suite C, was large and located in Building 6 - very central & convenient! We did have trouble with the toilet flushing and found out we were not to flush toilet paper in the toilet???? WHY NO SIGNAGE TO ADVISE OF THAT PROBLEM? We also couldn't get our TV to operate...never did get that fixed. Our 'safe', once items placed inside and door locked with code - we couldn't reopen! Had to have a fellow come open for us. Entertainment in the evening was alright.....not exceptional, just alright. Beaches are beautiful...sandy, no rocks or stones at all. We had a huge balcony but usually too hot to sit out there. Air conditioning worked perfectly!!! Also in-suite fridge/bar was a treat because all drinks were included!!! overall - was fun & safe!!!

Amazing service. Amazing events. Amazing workers. Food was not good in my opinion but the steakhouse and Asian restaurant buffet were great!

Alcohol was great, rooms cold. Food was not great. Breakfast is the worst unless you live on fruit. Italian restaurant is great, steak restaurant not so much. The margarita is great for lunch. Too many vendors on the beach and I do not recommend buying excursions on beach your all inclusive meal on the excursion would be 2 taquitos rice and bean soup. That’s all you get to eat in 10 hours. You will also wait 40 minutes in a can as they have a sales meeting and then wait another 45 minutes to get into wherever you are going because you need your tickets. For the price nice resort with great staff
