Tried to check in "early" at 2:40 but had to wait in the lobby for 45 minutes for the room to be cleaned. Did not realize that the check in time is so late. Got to our room with "outdoor living space". Hahaha. Three feet of balcony with two chairs jammed in that subtracted three feet from the "indoor living space". Oh, and $50 a night to park. Should have read the fine print.

I booked this property for my 60th birthday. I could not even find the hotel as it was wrapped in scaffolding and under construction. When I finally found it after 3 tries and arrived I was told that there would be no water and i had to use the gym next door, the pool was closed, the rooftop was closed and they removed the hot tub. The restaurant was also closed. The plugs in the bathroom did not work. What they did not tell me was they start construction at 8 am. I woke up on my birthday with a jack hammer literally above my room. the noise was so loud I could not stay in the room. I was booked for 2 nights, told the front desk. the only thing they comped was the food charge. they said they would notify Hotels.com, to get a refund for the second night, yet they did not and actually charged me 200.00 for the food. I am local, but will never go back.

We arrived at 4:10 (check-in is at 4:00), and were told "Linens are running late, your room isn\'t ready." No biggie, we hung out in the lobby for about 15m, then got a missed-call (there is _horrible_ reception inside, and the WiFi is for guests only, and we weren\'t yet a guest...) saying our room was finally ready. The room itself was nice enough. Unfortunately, the room wasn\'t exactly ready, since the pillows were piled up in a chair without cases on them. Sigh. We figured we\'d hit the pool and ask them to finish making up the room...so we went to the "largest rooftop pool in Santa Barbara", only to find that it was closed for a private event. Sigh. Eventually, things got sorted, we had a nice dinner out, etc. etc. The next day we decided to try the pool. There is NO SHADE upstairs around the pool (about 1/3rd the number of umbrellas needed), and the pool is about 20 feet long, and 3 feet deep. Figured we\'d just lounge elsewhere on the rooftop deck (try and make some shade somewhere), but it was booked for another private event. Repeat the above for 4 days. On the plus side, the location is great - plenty of restaurants nearby, a mile-ish walk to the beach, etc. The valet service was FANTASTIC, and they were on top of charging the car while we stayed there. For the price of the room, the lack of useful ameneties and service just weren\'t worth it. I don\'t think we\'ll be back to this property.

My stay at the Kimpton Canary was very relaxing. I was initially roomed immediately off the elevator but Chloe ensured that I was moved to a different floor and room. This elevated my experience from the beginning-had my room not been changed, it would have been a poor experience as it was not a cheap stay for 3 nights. Hotel is overall expensive. Some features are nice but not $450 /night (and I came in the off-season) not including amenities such as Wifi, coffee bar, and a gym which were additional ~ $39 /daily. Other hotels have similar amenities included. That makes a huge difference for people when adding $200 depending on # of nights. Perhaps could charge a one time fee for amenities. I didn't have a car but parking is also additional-seems to be standard around the area. A a bit of a hassle. Pool was wonderful. Fireplaces however were not working nor were the space heaters up on the roof. Would have been nice to have had those functional for those wanting to sit and read after the sun went down. Room had some noise as walls were pretty thin. Bicycles were a nice addition-property has about 11 and, while it was not very crowded when I was there, I would imagine certain times of the year they are harder to reserve. Great safe location of State St. Very walkable/rideable to restaurants, shops, and approx 20 min to beach. Overall, I had an enjoyable stay and will definitely consider a repeat stay when I return to beautiful Santa Barbara. Cheers! AD

The hotel was beautiful, safe and clean. The staff are very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The rooftop pool area is small but was a welcome retreat on a hot day. The rooms are large and clean with comfortable beds. We would definitely recommend and would return to the hotel when visiting Santa Barbara again in the future.

Usually love this place & most Kiptons. Upon arrival we realized that massive work being done on hotel - painting & such. Place is messy & dirty. The painting made it so we couldn’t open blinds & constant noise. The hotel didn’t offer any discounts due to the problem we had to ask. Also floors not really clean. Bar/ restaurant had no real schedule just closed whenever it wanted to do so

We've stayed at the Canary several times in the past and the experience has always been great.This time, however, the room was not ready when we arrived, and when we finally got it, the room smelled of the cleaner they used to clean it, the air conditioning was turned off and the refrigerator was not working. None of these things is huge problem by itself but you expect better from a hotel charging $700/night.The managers did give us some consideration on the bill which was appreciated.

I stayed in room 215, right above the valet parking and the main entrance. I could hear every conversation, every car door slam, every drunk person returning to the hotel. I got very minimal sleep all three nights. There was no ceiling fan above the bed. Overall, this hotel was a poor experience for a 5 star hotel. Won't stay there again.

The balcony we paid extra for was underwhelming. It was a door that opened and that was it. Couldn\'t sit outside to enjoy the view. Although since we had a view of the has station we weren\'t missing much. I was also disappointed that the spa services they offer and we booked we\'re not on the actual premises. Wasn\'t a far walk, but not as convenient as I\'d hoped. Overall it was just "ok". The restaurant Finch and Fork was alright but the menu wasn\'t impressive.

This is a great hotel. The rooms are on the small side, but otherwise no complaints. Pool area is quiet and has a great view. It’s right in downtown with so many shops and restaurants in walking distance. I will stay here every time I come to SB.

The rooftop pool was outstanding. Same goes for the friendly and attentive hotel staff, Definitely the highlight of our stay at the property. The bar and restaurant were also great. Unfortunately, the bed in our room was too soft, which will probably keep us from staying there again. And the bathroom doors were ventilated shutter doors like you might find on a closet, which meant all the sound in the bathroom was heard in the rest of the room. Overall, the hotel is really nice and I recommend it if you don’t mind soft beds and prefer a good pool over being close to the beach.

Overpriced. Nothing special, asked for extra towels, never got them. TV kept having network/connection issues which was annoying when trying to watch a movie and relaxing in bed. Currently under construction so no view because of scaffolding. Would not pay over $700 all in for one night for this hotel.

My biggest issue was with the lack of staff available: you could tell the whole hotel was run on a skeleton crew from the lack of proper pool towels to the one person at the front desk trying to manage a wedding and regular customers. Our room wasn't ready until 45 minutes after check-in and when I went to cancel the room, I was hung up on. The pool was a little smaller than expected, but not as much of an issue as the large gasoline powered generator (?) that kicked on for 45 minutes right next to the deck chairs. It also coughed up a huge plume of black smoke and the smell of gasoline lingered in the air. I'm sure it's a nice hotel, I just never got to stay there.

We were in town for a benefit. We wanted to stay close to the venue in a walkable area. The first room was loud. We were promptly moved to another room. Everyone was polite and very accommodating. The bed was very comfortable. Excited to come back.

The service is wonderful. My family and I were there for my daughter’s surprised 30th birthday and we reserved 3 rooms. The front desk were very accommodating when I requested to have our rooms on the same floor and as close together as possible. Chloe made it happen! She was wonderful to talk to. Everyone from valet parking to bar and restaurant and housekeeping, staffs were very friendly.

A nice but not great hotel in downtown Santa Barbara. The hotel has some good facilities (parking - for a fee, gym, bar and restaurant). The location is good for exploring downtown and the beach (bike, or a 25 min walk). We had some issues with noise outside the room in the early mornings; one day due to a delivery, the other due to an unhoused person. The room was nice but the bathroom lacks any kind of sound proofing or even a solid door... It was also missing robes, coffee/kettle (though they were available on request) so felt not quite up to the usual Kimpton standard. But overall would recommend, just not a *great* hotel for the price

It's a beautiful property, perfect for a getaway. The ambiance is quiet, and the room decor is both unique and in good taste. We had a balcony room, which faced the street. While the beach isn't within walking distance and we had to take Ubers to get there, the overall experience was still delightful. The pool area is amazing—warm, inviting, and enhanced by a fireplace for the evening, making it just perfect.

We stayed here for our wedding and it was so perfect. We walked to the courthouse and so many stores and restaurants nearby we didn’t have to drive anywhere. The hotel was great. Staff is so friendly (Chole was amazing) the room was beautiful, the complimentary wine and coffee was great. The bar was great. All the food and drinks were so delicious. We will be coming back for our anniversary.
