The George Washington - A Wyndham Grand Hotel

Hotel has a walking mall right around the corner. Beds and pillows are always comfortable. Has nightly entertainment on weekends onsite at the Bar/Restaurant.

So the room was great and the hotel looked nice until we got to the pool. The pool was the entire reason we choose to stay here. First thing was no pool towels. Not a big deal at first but it snowballed quick when we got into the very cold pool. The pool was so cold that after five minutes we were done and other kids were crying that it was too cold. My wife called for towel and we waited 5 minutes. Nothing. Another guest called and we waited another 5 minutes with cold kids and no towels. The hot tub was out of order, fountains not working in pool, multiple lights strobing above pool that need maintenance, and again the pool was too cold to enjoy. The hotel claims the pool is room temperature. I teach HVAC!! That was not room temperature. At checkout I explained my displeasure with the pool and towel wait. I was told "maintenance is out of our control." Umm maintenance works for the hotel so it's in your control. I've stayed at The Sagamore, Eden Resort, The Grand Estonian, Stonewall Resort all this year. I was shocked at the response I got from this hotel. Your can decorate as an upscale property all you want but it's really how you treat your guests needs that make you upscale. DO BETTER GW.

The hotel is beautiful, very clean and the staff friendly. Bed was super comfortable. The shower was amazing. The treadmills in the gym could use an upgrade.

It’s a nice property that is well-located. The harsh smell of chlorine in the pool area is so harsh that it makes it unusable.

The hotel is as great. Would have given full 5 stars but the pool was closed and we didn’t know until check in.

This hotel is great. I’ve stayed there before and we’ll stay there again. My only gripe is that the hot tub wasn’t hot…it was warm, and there were no jets of any consequence… I absolutely recommend this hotel!

We loved The George Washington Hotel! It has an excellent location for restaurants and the walking mall. It’s easy to drive to places, and the facilities were beautiful! We had a wonderful time. We loved the pool and ordering room service. We hope the spa gets up and running soon; it’s closed for now.

GW Hotel is what good hotels used to be. New hotels spend money on being hip but skimp on space, extras, parking, etc. Legacy hotels don’t manage upkeep, rest on their name, and hire undedicated staff. GW Hotel was historically special, perfectly kept, and did the easy things right: charming lobby bar, free parking, and friendly staff. Oh, and the pool is incredible.

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel. It was really nice. Clean, convenient to shopping and restaurants in the Old City. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The bar was a great place to visit and service was great. My husband used the pool and hot tub and thought it was clean and well maintained. Parking very convenient. We would go back.

Beautiful hotel, very little parking. We paid for both nights but were unable to park because the small lot was full. We ended up parking on the street both nights.

Please dust your vents. People breathe the air and it needs to be clean. Please fix the noisy A/C. Please do general repairs to walls, ceilings, etc.

Our room was extremely small. We were unable to watch the tv except from the desk chair. We ended up shifting the tv a bit so that we could watch it at an angle from the bed. The hot water was extremely hot. When I turned down the bed I discovered a food takeout bag poking out from under the bed, so I’m guessing no vacuuming was done. On the other hand, breakfast was good, hot and plentiful. Restaurant and bar staff were professional and friendly.

This is a fantastic hotel. We had a superior room that was very spacious and included a jacuzzi tub and even a working gas fireplace. The room was equivalent to any of the best hotels in Asia, where we frequently travel. The only fault is they should have cleaned our room. However, they took $100 off the stay to compensate and gave us a complimentary breakfast. We definitely would stay there again.

My wife and I stayed overnight and it was a wonderful stay! Room was clean, lots of room to move, comfy beds and quiet. Staff was friendly and awesome. We didn't swim this time but the pool looked great, will have to check it out next time. Loved the bar area too...looking forward to our next stay!

Upon checking into our room, my wife and I noticed that the bathroom was not cleaned as there was pubic hair on the toilet seat along with what appeared to be fecal matter, a water stained mirror and a dirty sink faucet . When we went to the front desk to notify them, the staff appeared flustered with the situation and stated “they really need to start checking the rooms” (known problem? Also not a professional statement to make in front of guests) we were offered to have the room re-cleaned or be downgraded to a room with double beds (as no other rooms were available) we decided to keep our room with a new cleaning. When we went up to get our things out of the room, we were met by a member of the cleaning staff who asked us if we were taking the double room. When we replied that we were not she stated “can y’all please just take the other room? I have 3 more rooms to clean and no staff.” While I can sympathize having a short staff, it is wildly inappropriate to request that of a guest. I definitely expected more from this hotel and the experience, unfortunately, fell short of expectations.

Beautiful and clean

My husband and I stay at the GW at least 5-6 times per year. We always get the jr suite. I appreciated the updated showers. But when I got in, there was a clump of hair on the wall of the shower from a previous guest. I expect something like that from a Super 8 hotel. Not from The GW. Very disappointed.

Our stay at The George Washington Hotel was wonderful! Our room was spacious, clean, and the bed and linens were very comfortable. The room was very quiet. We were lucky to have a parking place in the flat lot before and after dinner. The female wait staff member at breakfast was phenomenal! Carla, the front office manager was quite helpful as it was our first, but certainly not our last stay!

From the outside the George Washington Hotel looks very impressive. The hotel was impeccably clean and neat both in and out. The hotel turned 100 years old this year and the place looks like it had just opened, no exaggerations here. The lobby is very classy and looks the period the hotel first opened. There is an original guest mail chute running down all floors located on the wall in-between the elevator doors that looks like they can still be used today. It just added to the charm. Our room looked like it is well maintained (no peeling or chipped paint) and all amenities (TV, remote, AC, coffee maker, lamps) worked perfectly as they should. The front desk and the concierge were very friendly and inviting. They were very helpful when giving us information. Just one block away is a 4-block long pedestrian mall. We arrived late on a Sunday afternoon and at least 1/2 of the restaurants there were open. A few stores were also open. One refreshing thing about the mall is that the stores are not the usual retail franchises. All were quite unique and local businesses. The George Washington Inn is a very nice place for a get away to. The hotel restaurant is the only franchise we saw, a "Pizzeria Uno," and they were the only place in the immediate area that served breakfast before we left the next day. We went there as a stop-over between NJ and TN and we are glad we did.

This historic hotel has been kept in wonderfully restored condition. Rooms are large, clean, and comfortable. Bathrooms are clean, although the plumbing is a little dated. The service is flawless. The location is ideal, two blocks from the pedestrian mall and shops.

The internet was not working and the tv service company was having contract issues so we could not watch us open which we were looking forward to. Couldnt stream it either

Beautiful rooms and very comfortable don’t try to sleep in as everyone slams doors as they leave starting at 0600 and just ruins a good night sleep

This is a solid, comfortable older hotel with an attentive, customer-friendly staff. We have stayed there several times because it is located within easy walking distance of Old Town Winchester with its walking street and many restaurants and shops. The only unfortunate downside to our room, which was otherwise fine, is that the heating system on the very cold night we stayed was very loud and not conducive to a good night's sleep. Although we had the system set to a modest and reasonable 70 degrees F., it turned on often, was loud and did not make for a good night's sleep. In short -- this is a very good hotel, but especially on nights when the outdoor temperature is well above freezing.

Great Jr Suite as always. But the fireplace kept making a very loud banging sound every 2-3 minutes.

This hotel had great character with all the modern amenities. Our room (#500) was actually a suite with fireplace, four poster bed, Jacuzzi tub and large walk-in shower. We were here on a Friday and the bar was lively. The pedestrian mall is extremely close, and we had a wonderful Italian dinner nearby.

Our room was besides the elevator and it seems the elevator has some problems because it is super loud. My husband could not sleep because of the noise and vibration the elevator cause to our room. Everything else was good but in a hotel you supposed to relax and sleep but that was not the results for the hubby.

Staff was great and helpful. Received written info about current hotel services. Even room service was available. Nice to have UNO restaurant attached to hotel and could charge purchases to room. Issue was with the television which kept freezing. Maintenance came twice but issue was never resolved. Finally gave up complaining.

Nice hotel, great service. Very clean, beds are comfy. Only negative, you can hear conversations from your neighboring room if you have an interior connecting door… and I mean like the people are having discussion's right beside you. That being said, I would stay again for sure, just request a non connecting room if it’s not needed.

From the moment we arrived the front desk person made us feel very welcome and at home. She was very knowledgeable about the walkable areas and restaurants. The room was excellent and the beds were comfortable. The lounge had an excellent singer that we enjoyed immensely. Would highly recommend this hotel. Even joined the Wyndam rewards as a result!

Front desk employees were not friendly or helpful…almost rude.

We were greeted not only with a smile, remembering us from our last visit, but, when checking in, and mentioning what museum we'd be heading to, the concierge gave us free admission tickets! WE LOVE THIS HOTEL! So accommodating, Amen!

We were very bothered that when we called the extension for room service multiple times (around 9:30pm, during their business hours), no one ever picked up the phone. Eventually we gave up, frustrated and hungry.

The staff were excellent. While we had one issue with housekeeping we were instantly compensated. The main desk staff went above and beyond to help with luggage to our room and helping me go in and out in a rain storm!

The hotel is beautiful and the staff is very accommodating.

I had a great stay at the George Washington Hotel. Winchester is my hometown and I have wanted to stay at the hotel since they renovated. Everyone I came into contact with was SO nice, friendly, and accommodating. The room was spacious and clean, and I took advantage of all the wonderful amenities. Robbie Limon playing at the Half Note Friday night was the icing on the cake. I can't wait to go back on my next visit.

Staff was too busy talking to each other to care about us. Had issue with tv and a gentleman came to help. Although he couldn’t solve issue, he was kind and considerate. Wanted us to appreciate the beauty of the hotel and showed us the ballroom. He made up for staff at registration desk

There was no one at the front desk when I tried to check in. I waited for over 10 minutes and then went to the restaurant. My check-in was delayed.

From the mobile check in to check out everything was wonderful. Hotel situated in a Prime location for walking to multiple restaurants and shopping in historic downtown Winchester. Will definitely stay again.

Wonderful historic hotel in the center of Old Town Winchester. Walk to the walking mall filled with excellent dining and shopping. This property gives the visitor a taste of the real Virginia during George Washington’s time.

Great hotel in a great location. Initially disappointed that the restaurant had changed to Pizzeria Uno, but we were happily surprised at the quality and tastiness of the food and would go again.

with a wedding block being placed on the hotel for the weekend the bar area was not open appropriately for the guests. Closing early and offering no food options on a Friday night at 10 p.m. is unacceptable.

Room was a good size. Price was great. The bar was quaint and the entertainment was excellent. The restaurant was conveniently located in the lower level of the hotel - which was a plus because it was very cold out. I would definitely stay there again.

A very good location for visiting downtown. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially the servers in the comfortable and reasonably priced restaurant.

Room service was very underrated. They said 20-25 minutes it took 50 and the food was lukewarm at best and all I got was an apology.

Clean, comfortable, excellent bathroom facilities, great staff. New restaurant in the basement was surprisingly delicious! Only recommendation is making sure that the hours for the basement restaurant are clear that it closes at 11 am. We met friends for a 9:30 breakfast and the staff seemed eager for us to depart. I had thought the restaurant was open until 2 as per the web site.

Beautiful old world hotel. Good service, good food and Excellent coffee. Better than any hotel I have stayed at, coffee-wise.

$350 a night but no free breakfast? On our honeymoon so we ordered breakfast in bed for a ridiculous price and had a molded strawberry. Reported it and fruit was replaced. But i still love the hotel and surrounding areas. Just go elsewhere for food.
