This property looks aged and the food options on site are bad; it's a bit far from any other options as well. We were thankful to have a car to go off site for meals. Service wants to do well but they fall a bit short; bored and over worked maybe? The infinity edge pool view to the ocean is beautiful and the large pool is quite nice. However, many other resorts have a pool. Room AC was cold and we slept well. We would not likely return. Costa Rica is so beautiful and this hotel feels like a lonely island away from the authentic beauty of the country.

Beautiful property, huge pool, variety of restaurants. Slightly isolated from any towns (half hour drive to Tamarindo and they have a shuttle). Walked to a nice beach restaurant, Lola’s. Could advertise that the spa has a sauna, steam room and small pool. Spa prices were high for Central America but service was good. Really enjoyed the Tamarine Restaurant. Room was very comfortable with a large bathtub. Pool is huge. Nice property, about an hour and a half from Liberia airport. Found a less expensive van to and from Liberia airport than what the Marriott offered.

This property was perfect for our family! The pool was great, restaurant options were delicious, and the beach was beautiful and convenient. We watched beautiful sunsets and had a very relaxing time. There were activities available throughout the day like mixology classes, cooking classes, yoga, bike rides, etc. The staff were so friendly and helpful! We would definitely stay here again!

Awesome as always! Good COVID protocols, main restaurant does a great job. Fine dining restaurants struggling to provide good service so maybe save and go off property instead. They do a nicecjob with group activities, bike tour, sunset cocktails, beach bonfire... love oceanfront suites.

Meh. We spent the last two nights in CR here with our three boys. They loved the pools and the all inclusive option. The food was great. The reason for my three stars is this: when you pay this much to stay somewhere you don’t want to get up at 7am to save lounge chairs am I right? When I went out at 7:30am half of the chairs already had towels thrown on them and most people didn’t make their way down until hours later. Honestly, so not cool. The drinks are pretty weak, but the service poolside was awesome. (Special shoutout to Carlos). This resort a. Doesn’t capture the real magic of CR. b. Really isn’t worth the price tag.

One of the best resorts at which we’ve ever stayed. The food at the restaurants we visited was world class, the staff was friendly and attentive (a special shout out to Marco for leading morning yoga practices on the beach), the fitness center was well-appointed, and every day felt like paradise!

I liked that the property had friendly staff and the grounds were well maintained as well as the room. It was more remote which hindered us from leaving the property except for an excursion. It was posted the beach had strong currents and swimming was ill advised which was disappointing. Also no Costa Rican food options for dinner restaurants on the property and there were limited options close to the resort. My other issue was we purchased “all inclusive “ and many times we were served drinks that were not covered but told after the fact which was irritating. Sparkling water was not included- odd. Overall it was ok, the resort shows wear. If you are looking to get out on your own and go to town- this is not the resort for you.

We just got back from a week at the JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort and Spa and we had a such a great time. We flew in to the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (Liberia Airport), used the recommended transport ( Go CR Vision ) on the JW Marriott web site for our transportation to and from the JW. and made the reservation on line. They were ontime both times and had great service! The entire stay was wonderful at the JW Marriott. We visited all restaurants and used room service and had great service and food was amazing. The other thing that was a pleasant surprise was that every time we pointed out our youngest daughters allergies (dairy and gluten) they could always remake something on all menus that would accommodate her as well as me as I am a vegan. The Tamarine was my personal favorite and we ate there a few times. The coffee/ice cream shop was great for coffee in the morning. I honestly have nothing to complain about. The property was beautiful and clean, the service was wonderful and we just had a great time. We took one excursion, a catamaran / snorkeling trip and made the reservation via the tour office at the JW and that was lovely as well. We didn't have any safety concerns but also didn't go into any cities on the whole trip and generally stayed with recommended tour groups or transportation services. There are iguanas and geckos everywhere! Also didn't have any mosquito problems on the property at all!

Our stay at the JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort was nothing short of perfect! The property was beautiful & well maintained, the staff was friendly, the food was delicious, & the excursions were well organized & fun. Our room was cleaned & restocked to perfection each day & we were so happy we’d thought to reserve a room with an ocean-facing balcony. Each night, the sunset was an event not to be missed! In addition, the serpentine, infinity pool was large enough to provide guests with varying levels of enjoyment. A water volleyball game at one end of the pool went unnoticed by guests looking for quiet relaxation in another area. Over the course of our week-long stay, we got to experience the warmth & friendly service of the resort staff. We looked forward to being greeted each day by hostess, Karen, who greeted us by name & easily recalled our dining preferences. In addition, Josue and Gustavo, stand out for their exceptional service & sincere interest in our comfort & enjoyment of the property’s many amenities. As vegetarians/pescatarians & coffee lovers who do most of our own cooking, we were concerned that the resort would not meet our dining preferences. The opposite was true: the breakfast buffet at the resort restaurant, Pimento, had something for everyone. Local fruit, along with the biggest buffet we’ve ever seen, including egg & quesadilla bars, provided a substantial start to each day’s activities. I wouldn't go back here. If you're already in the area and looking for a place to stay for a couple nights it's probably worth it, but we did our honeymoon here for 8 nights and I wouldn't recommend staying here for that long. Pros: - The pool and property grounds are pretty awesome - Most of the staff are really nice and friendly - All of the food, although limited (see Cons section), was quite good, everything tasted great Cons: - We did the "All Inclusive" option, don't do this. There's so few restaurants and one of them isn't even included in the All Inclusive package, on top of that there are menu items/drinks that aren't included too. It was also confusing what was and wasn't included, kept getting different answers from the staff, so I was nervous that I was going to get a huge bill by the end of the trip. - The pool was quite warm for a few of the days we were there (early August), makes sense for how hot the weather was when we were there, but it wasn't very refreshing when you're looking for an escape from the heat - I see a lot of people praising the cleanliness in other reviews, but we had gross dark smudges around the bathroom and stains on sheets and the chair in the room. Nothing too crazy, but was a bit gross. - If you're looking for a nice beach, don't go here. It's very rocky, was quite choppy when we were there, and the sand isn't anything to write home about (though there are shells and things to see if that's what you're into)

Yes, very clean they organized and cleaned our room multiple times a day. They could’ve had more restaurants open. Some music down at the pool would’ve been nice. Apparently we went during their lowest season and it was only about 5 to 10% occupied so it was pretty quiet. There was a minor construction that disrupted our afternoon one day with some very loud pressure washers. It’d be nice if they had a club with music and dance floor . but they did upgrade us when we got there to a better room with an ocean view. I was very appreciated of that.

Every member of that staff that I interacted with had a smile on their face and was happy to answer any questions or help in any way. The room was clean and spacious. Highly recommend upgrading to the garden or pool view room. The resort had everything we needed!

The property is beautiful, the staff is fantastic, and the food is delicious. The room had a lovely view of the garden from the balcony and my children absolutely loved the pool. One downside: It is very secluded so it is a long drive to go one excursions.

We had minor issues with AC being always on, and the thermostats not kicking in. There was also a clog in the AC unit and cause leaking from the ceiling. The road to the resort needs work. There is a 10 minute stretch that’s really nerve wracking if you are coming in for the first time when it’s dark, and you worry about the damage to the vehicle. Other than that, it’s a great place and does deserve all the 5-stars.

We absolutely loved every minute of our stay at JW Marriott Guanacaste. The staff was friendly, helpful and always available. The pool was amazing, along with the beach. Our ocean view room was just as we expected -- breathtaking view! We highly recommend a visit here.

Online room reservations are deceiving. Reserving a ocean view room may give you a peak of the ocean from your terrace . It is not clear that to really see a view of the ocean you need to reserve an ocean front room. Also if you have any difficulty walking be aware of this property being very large and walking around the pool to access the steps into the pool can be a long walk.

Spent a full week at the JW Marriott and had a really great time with my family (wife and 2 girls 10&11). The hotel was really great when it comes to the pool, beach, staff, parking, and rooms. But really the only downside, is that even for a guy who does pretty darn good for himself, the food prices are just plain crazy, and the selection is very mediocre. $24 for a ham sandwich people, $26 burgers, $22 chicken strips, and if you want to eat at the italian buffet $50 a person for mediocre pasta and pizza...I heard the country can be expensive but its just kind of ridiculous.

This property looks aged and the food options on site are bad; it's a bit far from any other options as well. We were thankful to have a car to go off site for meals. Service wants to do well but they fall a bit short; bored and over worked maybe? The infinity edge pool view to the ocean is beautiful and the large pool is quite nice. However, many other resorts have a pool. Room AC was cold and we slept well. We would not likely return. Costa Rica is so beautiful and this hotel feels like a lonely island away from the authentic beauty of the country.

Service was awful. Room service was 2 hours multiple times. When leaving our rental car had a dead battery. We asked concierge for a taxi. Said there were no taxi to airport. Asked for shuttle. Said no shuttle. Asked how I could get to the airport and he said he didn’t know. There were many more failures along the way as well.

I liked that the property had friendly staff and the grounds were well maintained as well as the room. It was more remote which hindered us from leaving the property except for an excursion. It was posted the beach had strong currents and swimming was ill advised which was disappointing. Also no Costa Rican food options for dinner restaurants on the property and there were limited options close to the resort. My other issue was we purchased “all inclusive “ and many times we were served drinks that were not covered but told after the fact which was irritating. Sparkling water was not included- odd. Overall it was ok, the resort shows wear. If you are looking to get out on your own and go to town- this is not the resort for you.

Staff were AMAZING such lovely people I truly cannot express that enough. However, location a little inconvenient as there is a required dirt path that you need to take to leave and come in. The path is so raggedy and bumpy it’s almost painful. Other than that this resort is amazing

This property was perfect for our family! The pool was great, restaurant options were delicious, and the beach was beautiful and convenient. We watched beautiful sunsets and had a very relaxing time. Meh. We spent the last two nights in CR here with our three boys. They loved the pools and the all inclusive option. The food was great. The reason for my three stars is this: when you pay this much to stay somewhere you don’t want to get up at 7am to save lounge chairs am I right? When I went out at 7:30am half of the chairs already had towels thrown on them and most people didn’t make their way down until hours later. Honestly, so not cool. The drinks are pretty weak, but the service poolside was awesome. (Special shoutout to Carlos). This resort a. Doesn’t capture the real magic of CR. b. Really isn’t worth the price tag.

If you're already in the area and looking for a place to stay for a couple nights it's probably worth it, but we did our honeymoon here for 8 nights and I wouldn't recommend staying here for that long. Pros: - The pool and property grounds are pretty awesome - Most of the staff are really nice and friendly - All of the food, although limited (see Cons section), was quite good, everything tasted great Cons: - We did the "All Inclusive" option, don't do this. There's so few restaurants and one of them isn't even included in the All Inclusive package, on top of that there are menu items/drinks that aren't included too. It was also confusing what was and wasn't included, kept getting different answers from the staff, so I was nervous that I was going to get a huge bill by the end of the trip. - The pool was quite warm for a few of the days we were there (early August), makes sense for how hot the weather was when we were there, but it wasn't very refreshing when you're looking for an escape from the heat - I see a lot of people praising the cleanliness in other reviews, but we had gross dark smudges around the bathroom and stains on sheets and the chair in the room. Nothing too crazy, but was a bit gross. - If you're looking for a nice beach, don't go here. It's very rocky, was quite choppy when we were there, and the sand isn't anything to write home about (though there are shells and things to see if that's what you're into)
