Wonderful updated historic building converted into an intimate 35 room boutique hotel overlooking a quiet square. It’s just 1 block off a major shopping street featuring all the best lines and a short 10 minute walk to the water. Fab breakfasts, very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Our room had 3 Juliet balconies overlooking the square. Hotel also operates a small bistro in the square. Very talented musicians on Friday and Saturday evenings. Best hotel we’ve stayed at in years!

We loved Hotel Alegria! Beautiful hotel - dining room, lobby, rooms, and hallways. Comfy bed, nice lighting, awesome shower. We loved the park and cafe across the street from the hotel. If you order food from the cafe, it’s coming from the hotel. Great options for dining around the square/hotel - excellent tapas and wine restaurant, breakfast restaurant, and a steak restaurant. Very cool speakeasy close - The Red Frog - I recommend making a reservation ahead. We’ll definitely staying at Hotel Alegria next time we’re in Lisbon.

This is a lovely hotel. Our room was beautiful with doors that opened out to the front of the building. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel restaurant was excellent. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again.

Booked at Expedia based on the pictures shown and reviews. The hotel is close to Rossio square and convenient for getting to downtown. The facility conditions are not good. Hallway floor is not clean. Toilet is outdated. Body wash dispenser is not working. The floor is not even. The bedroom floor is higher than the bathroom floor. This can be a safety hazard for senior. The reception area decor is good but furniture needs some work. Some Chair barely holds itself. The breakfast area and breakfast is the only highlight. Very good food and arrangement. Overall, the stay is fine mainly because of the breakfast. No recommendation for the facilities.

The staff were so friendly, gave us suggestions on things to do, places to see as the weather wasn’t the best. The room was always spotless, very traditional but with a modern twist. We loved the breakfast, there was plenty to choose from and they even cooked fresh omelettes upon request! Overall the hotel was small but charming, perfectly located to get around the city. Would definitely stay here in the future!

The hotel is very nice but since it faces a park with a band stand they often have really loud music 6-8 hours a night, even until midnight. Esthetics were lovely, mini bar was great, food was good but I thought breakfast was included, check your reservation. Otherwise $18 for a great breakfast. Also I thought it was expensive

This is beautiful hotel located within walking distance to restaurants and shopping. The breakfast buffet was beautiful and very good. My complaint though is in regards to the bed. Mattress was too hard and the pillows too flat. Had a rough time sleeping.

Fantastic hotel in a perfect location that punches very far above its 3 star rating. Just steps from Lisbon’s main avenue, easy walking distance to the main sites, yet situated on a beautiful, quiet square that insulates it from the city’s energy. With rooms much larger than is the European norm, and beautiful public spaces, it is hard to imagine a Lisbon hotel that comes even close to matching the Algeria’s value. We travel to Europe often and this is one of if not our favorite hotel.

Beautiful hotel, decor is unique and staff was very friendly. The room was very clean and comfortable. The only draw back was the AC. No matter how low we had it the room was very hot, making it very difficult to sleep. That is the only improvement I would recommend. Thank you!

Our room 108 was HUGE for Europe standards. Had plenty of room for two large suitcases on stands. Armoir for hanging a few things. The bathroom, though, nicely upgraded was small but overall this was the best room we had while traveling in Spain and Portugal. Also, great location to access restaurants, shops etc.

Hotel Alegria is a very nice boutique hotel that is on a quiet neighborhood but easy access to the center parts of Lisbon. The guest rooms are nicely appointed and the breakfasts are excellent. The only thing I could think of negative is the potential noise from the floor above since the floor is not quite sound proof. On one of the nights I stayed there, there was one night when the guest above walked heavily in the middle of the night and the noise from there is quite obvious that affected my sleep.

This is a beautiful little hotel right on a delightful park and is centrally located. My room was a beautiful sunlit retreat that had a very large, functional bathroom and was very quiet. When I come back to Lisbon, I will most certainly stay here again. Oh! Breakfast was awesome and the staff are lovely.

We stayed at the aptly named Hotel Alegría In late October and early November, 2025. It is very near all the important sites in downtown Lisbon, and we easily walked to the castle, the waterfront, and many other downtown places of interest. The train and metro stations were very close by. The food was excellent. The breakfast included a large assortment of breads, fruit, cheeses, meats, yogurt, juices, coffee drinks, and omelets made to order, and everything was beautifully presented. The rooms were charming and fully stocked with everything we needed. But, what made our stay in Lisbon the most enjoyable was the incredible friendliness and helpfulness of every member of the staff with whom we had contact, especially David and Danielo (sp ?). They helped us with questions about transportation, directions, calling Ubers, and finding restaurants. The restaurant staff even made food to order when I was not feeling well. The smiles of all of the people who work at Howl Alegría made our stay in Lisbon truly special.

Can't say enough good things about this Hotel and its top-notch staff. we were staying there during the Iberian blackout, no power, no internet or Wi-Fi and very spotty cell service. Although the staff didn't know much more than we did they made every effort to keep things as normal as possible and everyone at the Hotel safe. All the restaurants were closed so the hotel provided boxed lunches for all guests and made wine and drinks available. On the morning of the second day power had been restored but still no internet and the staff used their own phones as hot spots so we could check flights and get boarding passes. Everyone at the hotel kept a calm and professional deminer during the entire event. Aside from the hotels Parkside location and walking distance to restaurants and beautiful decor it's the people that make the difference.

I can't praise enough the staff of Hotel Alegria that is for their kindness, professionalism, level of service and attention to their clients' needs. While the property is wonderful, extremely well located, impeccably maintained and with a lot of amenities, the staff and during this stay made all the difference! From the check-in experience to the Alegria "Kiosk" experience for aperitifs and snacks all members of Hotel Alegria's staff couldn't do enough in the matter of being accommodating and extremely courteous and "fast". I can't recommend enough this outstanding property and from all standpoints (having tried so many other hotels in Lisbon). Thank you to everybody at Hotel Alegria ... I will be back !

We just loved the Hotel's Quiosk in the park just across the side street of the hotel. Having somewhere to sit and enjoy a glass of wine or cold beer and a snack after a day of exploring Lisbon on foot was just wonderful. And the breakfast is definitely a "must do". Incredible. This hotel was situated on a pretty little square. It was charming, well-appointed, supremely comfortable, and all the staff were particularly pleasant to deal with. The breakfasts in the morning offered an enormous choice, and everything was plentiful and delicious. They would even make us something special if we asked, like an omelet, or a special coffee. We loved this hotel. It was my favorite of our entire trip!
