Electric car charging station, excellent free breakfast, comfortable rooms and a fabulous, walkable location. Excellent value.

We stayed 3 nights. Great location. Walkable to restaurants, bars and the waterfront. The standard queen room was large. Very high bed with a couch, fridge. Can do laundry on site for a small fee. Also a gym. The breakfast was fine with a few hot items. Note: This is not a hotel. It is a motel with free parking. It suited us fine. They also offer a manager's reception but only on weeknights. Staff on site were very nice. No elevator so there are stairs. We liked it. It was budget friendly so we could spend more money in the local restaurants. But if you want a hotel and the services that they offer it's probably not for you.

It was a fine stay, great location very walkable and nice to have parking. Even though it was hard Finding a parking spot if you came in after 3 the spots were all taken up I didn’t love that you had to call down to ask to get the room cleaned up. And it’s not very handclap/ young child friendly. We had a stroller with made things difficult since there’s so many stairs.

When I booked the room, it showed swimming pool and hot tab in pictures, and after we checked in, we found there is no pool at all. Also, there is no elevator in this hotel, very inconvenient. The room is very small. We felt really disappointing and decided to find another hotel. We didn’t use the room at all, we opened the door have a quick look and left immediately . We spent about one hour to negotiate with the hotel, but they refused to refund us. We had to leave for another hotel, cause it was getting late and our baby was fussy. So we actually didn’t sleep in this room, but they still charge us $300. We request a full refund! The good review of this hotel is not honest, really misleading!

Convenient parking right outside rooms, friendly staff, great breakfast included and daily happy hour drink is a nice touch

This hotel has wood floor joist construction. And the rooms have hard surface flooring. With these two combined construction features we could hear everything going on in the room above us (footsteps, furniture being moved around, luggage being dragged around the room). When I complained at the front desk about the noise, they told me they get numerous complaints about the noise. Our sleep was disrupted and we certainly didn't wake up feeling refreshed and ready for our day of being Charlottetown tourists. One other complaint is that the shower curtain had not been washed and it made the bathroom smell dank. Unfortunately because of these couple of issues, we will not be returning to the Hotel on Pownal. On the positive side, we did enjoy the hotel's location (proximity to entertainment, the ocean, and restaurants). Also, the hotel has bikes available for hotel guests to use - complete with locks. So if you enjoy that sort of activity, it's a bonus that you don't need to rent a bike.

Pro: great location, free parking, mattress was decent. Cons: outdated, run-down, place stank, wake up call by the kitchen cooking sausages below at 5 AM, cobwebs in room, dusty AF and mould in the corners of the room.

Room wasn’t ready at the 4pm check in time. When we did get into our room - the room had an extremely strong smell of body odour. We had to ask front desk for air freshener - but no apology was received for same. The bathroom was quite dated, and a strong smell of urine was noted (maybe from the older floor heaters behind the toilet?). Room was loud from upstairs guests stomping, as well as being next to an outdoor patio. Lights were on outside all night. Beds and pillows comfortable.

Visited in September. I was originally assigned a room, but when I walked in, it smelled of stinky shoes. I figured it would go away, so I asked for Febreeze, which they provided, and went for a walk. When I came back, the smell was the same. I asked if I could get a different room and they switched me to a room with a balcony. They were very nice and polite and wanted to make sure my stay was satisfactory. Breakfast was nice as well. I would stay there again, but book a balcony as the view on the other side isn't very nice

We stayed at this hotel for one night in August 2025. Price paid was close to $400. This price indicated to us that the hotel would be clean, quiet, and well maintained. Our room (115- avoid if you can) was literally right beside the staircase leading from the front desk, and also beside the door leading to outside. This meant we could hear everything going on at the front desk, and every time the door opened and closed with guests going in and out. We could also hear people walking around and using the bathroom in the rooms above and beside us. When the breakfast began at 7 am, we could hear everyone going down to the dining room, all the conversations, etc. The quiet time at night was 8 pm. Despite this, we were kept up into the night by the noise. We have stayed at many hotels and some level of noise is always expected, but for the price we felt that this was excessive. We asked for a refund of $100 when we checked out due to the level of noise. The hotel would only refund us $75 - looking at other reviews this seems to be their regular policy for dissatisfied guests. We also noticed that there was a lot of dust around the hotel - on the blinds at the reception desk, on the coffee table in the reception area, and behind the TV in our room. There was also a random electrical cord sticking out of the wall, which had been hidden by the curtains until we pulled them back in the morning. Overall, we didn't find this hotel worth the price we paid.

Great location in Charlottetown. Quiet, comfortable beds. Public areas need cleaning and maintenance.

While the room was comfortable and clean, the hallway and corridors were filled with garbage and dirty laundry. Not very appealing when walking by or through the property.

Room was clean, linens were clean, Towels from the day before lying in hallways, Dirty back entrance. Poorly maintained carpets and stairwells.

Hotel was in a good location but the noise was a big issue. There is very little soundproofing in the building so we were woken up by the people in the room above us who were not being exceptionally loud. You could hear everything from the rooms around us and from outside.

Very clean inside and staff are very good. The view was not great, as a run down building with graffiti and a lot of trash outside.

The room was comfortable and clean but I did find it quite loud. I was at the end of the hall and was woken up repeatedly by people coming in and out of the hallway.

Great location. Just few blocks away from the downtown core. While the room is quite spacious, the bathroom would have gained to be a bit bigger.

Good stay. Only drawback was being unable to turn down the heat in our room. It was set to 18 but it read that it was 23. Made it difficult to sleep as it was too hot

We stayed two nights in the spacious and modern 1 bed unit with a small kitchen. The unit is really comfortable and the hotel is centrally located. We would have given it 5 stars if the wifi was working in our unit. There was wifi in the lobby but for some reasons it is not working in our unit.

Staff was very friendly and check in and out was a breeze.

Staff were to the best of their ability helpful, but the manager never made an appearance to deal with a difficult customer issue. In a hospitality business (especially a hotel) this should be viewed as a significant concern where the leader of the staff is either unwilling or lacks the capability of meeting with hotel guests to find a solution.

Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Needed help carrying our lugagge up and downstairs and they were right there to assist. Got us whatever we needed and asked for.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was outstanding. My only complaint was no housekeeping service during a three day stay. I expected the trash to be emptied daily and a quick inspection to ensure supplies (like toilet paper and coffee pods) were adequate.

The check-in was a breeze and the front desk person couldn’t have been kinder. She helped me map out the easiest route to my room so I didn’t have to trek outside in the cold, rainy weather. Huge win. Breakfast was absolutely fantastic, and I have to give a special shout-out to the wonderful lady running the breakfast area. She was truly AMAZING and had the whole space running like a warm, welcoming machine. My room was spotless and really well set up. The separated bedroom in the queen suite was a total life saver. Being able to close the door and enjoy some true quiet time made all the difference. As a neurodivergent person, the heavy curtains and solid doors made it feel like I had my own perfect little sanctuary. And a big nod to the gentleman working the front desk on my checkout day. He was calm, helpful, and somehow managed the entire front desk area plus a rush of guests finishing breakfast with total poise and professionalism. It was impressive. Highly recommend this hotel. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy being downtown without being right in the middle of the chaos.

helpful courteous staff

We stayed at the hotel on Pownal Street the night of May 16th, 2025 for one night. We appreciated being able to check in early; however, the process felt disorganized. The staff member who greeted us mentioned she was new and didn’t know how to complete the check-in. Meanwhile, several other employees were chatting nearby, but no one stepped in to assist or offer a warm welcome. We paid over $200 for a superior king room. The room itself seemed recently updated and was generally comfortable, but the bathroom had not been renovated to the same standard. The faucet in the shower didn’t seem to work properly, and the toilet was positioned so close to the door that it was awkward to use. There was complimentary coffee and tea available 24/7, which was a nice touch — but unfortunately, there was no milk or creamer provided. We were told to ask the front desk for it, but when we tried, there was no one available. As a result, we had to head downtown instead and didn’t really get the full use of the amenities the hotel offers. Overall, the main appeal of this hotel is its location — it’s within walking distance of the waterfront and everything in downtown Charlottetown. Just be aware that you’re mainly paying for convenience, not necessarily service or comfort.

Yes, we had! Arrived at the hotel around 6pm, booked 2 nights with Hotel.com a month ago. Surprised to find that the room assigned was a mess, no housekeeping was done, after dragging the luggage up to second floor (no elevator hotel). We had to walk back to the reception on the ground floor. Ringing the bell for service as before to get someone to help us. After a long wail, finally got a room in a different building. It was late we had go out for dinner. Came back to find that the vanity sink was not draining, the shower gel was empty, the room was very noisy, from next door or upstairs or construction early the morning. Even worse, we got locked out next day (cards didn’t work). The receptionists said I could have demagnetized the cards. Easy to blame someone! I had carefully put one in my jacket and another in my back pocket! So much for responsibility and accountability here I spoke to the manager at checkout. BTW, I did participate the Green program I thought it was an excellent idea: if you don’t need housekeeping in a two day or more stay, they would offer you $10 credit towards your bill which I didn’t get anything mentioned. Spending my time to do this review during our busy traveling is to help the hotel to improve the quality of the services or you could lose more customers like us.

The front desk staff was terrific, especially the person that checked us in. She was helpful and friendly.

When we parked there were two crack heads, right there. Outside of our bedroom window was an alley way to very unkempt apartments

Great location

My wife and I came to Charlottetown for a comedy show at the Sobeys Theatre. The hotel facikities were clean. The staff very friendly. Free on site parking. Easy 5 min walk to Confederation Center. Highly recommend.

Great location

Centrally located downtown Charlottetown which you can easily walk to all downtown restaurants and shops. Staff are great. Property is well maintained. Beds are a little high in height but comfortable. Breakfast was very good. Recommend

Location location location! Downtown Charlotte is just steps away. Driving out of the City to other parts of the Island is quick & easy. Staff at The Hotel on Pownal are great - friendly, helpful & professional. Room was very comfortable & spacious. Hope to return.

Breakfast was excellent. Good variety of foods. Good quality and tasty. Room service appears to be either understaffed or slow. However, when they came they did a thorough refreshing job. Overall, the staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. Just what makes the expeience at the motel extra nice.

Overall disappointing. Rooms were nice but breakfast was terrible. Main breakfast item was over before the end time and they prepared scrambled eggs as a workaround replacement item but that was made with spoiled eggs as those scrambled eggs were so smelly. When mentioned to the reception during checkout they didn't think there was any problem. If one is considering staying here for breakfast the ln I wouldn't recommend. There are better options 2-3 km from downtown

I liked how clean and updated it was. Friendly staff. Convenient location. The breakfast food selection was satisfactory. Eggs and sausage weren’t great and would recommend adding hash browns, more plain scrambled egg option and different type of sausage. Other hotels now have make you own waffle stations as well with their complimentary breakfast. Everything else was great!
