The Waring House

We were only at the Waring House for a short visit and loved how the property included all we needed. We enjoyed lunch at the pub and also dinner and Open Mic with James. Breakfast was super tasty and Heather keeps the service running quick and smooth. I would highly recommend The Waring House.

Our room was clean, spacious, nice sized balcony, very large 2-person tub, large soft towels and the beds were so comfortable! It was Saturday night and entertainment started at 6:30 in the pub. “The Reasons” were the local band, I’d return again just for their show, great music and there was even a bit of room for dancing. If you’re in the Picton area, choose The Waring House.

Waring House is a large facility with a variety of accommodation. It has beautiful gardens and property. The room was large, clean and comfortable with a lovely deck . The breakfast was freshly prepared and delicious.

The room was fantastic. Large tub, large room, king sized bed, massive balcony, etc. The property was great for walking around. Quiet and quaint. The complimentary breakfast was delicious. All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful. We would love to come back and try one of the cooking classes they have. I would recommend The Waring House to anyone and everyone looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway. The price was great as well.

The facilities are wonderful! We enjoyed our King suite with double access to a small patio and Adirondack chairs, looking out onto nature. The rooms were generous and the washroom was huge! The dining options are very good. The food is yummy, with the breakfast included being very filling to start the day. The only suggestion we would make is to train waitstaff more diligently for a more upscale dining experience rather than a "diner," based on the behaviour of the staff (we became accustomed to the daily complaints of being short-staffed, scolded for not knowing we needed to ask for the yogurt even though it was listed on the items that come with the breakfast, being bumped repeatedly as they passed by, and putting the cutlery on the chairs when setting up a "fresh" table for incoming guests, and the list goes on). We had the same server every morning, and her negativity did not help guests to have a positive start to their day. Other than this, the entire experience was wonderful. It became comical after a time, but I\'m sure not everyone would find it so. The location is fantastic, with beaches and local areas in the region just a short drive away. We enjoyed the gardens, took in the pub, and went for many strolls, enjoying the grounds. It is clear that everyone is working hard to provide guests with a positive experience. Despite the morning "show," I would return and recommend this establishment to anyone wanting to go to Prince Edward County.

Comfortable stay in nice room. Breakfast was great. EV charger was appreciated. Will stay there again.

Millennium Walking trail near the property. Old railroad line. Central for sightseeing in Prince Edward County as well as wineries.

Breakfast was wonderful, staff was great. Room was dirty, bathroom fan was thick with dust. Room had a dusty smell, curtains were full of dust.

Our room was not clean. There were disgusting stains on the carpet and I'm not quite sure what else. Not sure if it was medication or a candy or something else in front of screen door.

The front desk was wonderful and pleasant! The overall property is cute and cozy. It was great property for location and not far from Sandbanks or Picton. The in house restaurants were amazing! The pub had A+ food and service. Everything is fresh and local. the breakfast was delicious and a la carte. They do make you feel rushed though at breakfast. It can be busy but you don't need to be forceful with your time. As long as you are patient you will enjoy it! The pros is that it's an adorable property with a lot of culture and family feeling. the downside is that the residences have heavy carpeting with a musky smell. The TV backlight was broken so unusable for our stay but we didn't need it anyways. our room happened to be quite small compared to a family member who booked the same and had a nicer and more spacious room. our bed had no headboard unlike theirs so pillows kept slipping behind the bed. a lot of dust around the residence as and carpet could use replacement. all in all it was a great value for what we paid. we loved the staff, food and location and would stay again at that price point.

We enjoyed our stay at the Waring House. Room was clean though the rugs could be given a steam clean. Staff is super friendly from reception to grounds crew, along with wait staff and bartenders. Barley Pub was great for drinks and food, reasonably priced. Breakfast was great. Highly recommend staying at the Waring House and plan to visit again when in the area.

The condition of this hotel was shocking to say the least. It was clear the rooms hadn’t been cleaned in years - dust, cobwebs, spiders, hair on the linens, and a very strong smell of must and mildew throughout. The deck door did not lock so I felt very unsafe for my entire stay. The front reception was not very helpful and quite cold at times. The only upside of this place is the adjacent pub and restaurant where the breakfast and staff including Heather were wonderful.

The property was very nice. Housekeeping wasn’t up to par. Our room was never cleaned, even though we left a sign on the door handle to clean it. Room was smaller than anticipated but the decor was nice. Would have been nice if the room had a small refrigerator and microwave. The deck off the room was nice but the plastic furniture was filthy. Bathroom was a good size, but lighting could have been a little brighter. Just thought it was a little overpriced for what we got. I would probably stay somewhere else in the area next time. Complaints to the front desk went nowhere. They would just pass it on to management.

The Inn carpet has the basement-like musty smell. The room is overly scented, perhaps, to cover up the musty odor. The staff is friendly and professional.

Clean space, great linens, good mattress, but truly deplorable carpets throughout. We stayed in a room in The Heritage Building; the carpets were stained in the lobby, hallway, room (in serval places) with rolls rippling the common walk spaces, definitely a grimy feel and stale smell. Most importantly, considering the room was deemed accessible, it concerns me that someone with mobility challenges would stumble on the ripples in the carpet. Taking time to clean off the outdoor furniture would have improved the option to enjoy the patio space. The staff in the pub were extremely personable and made a positive impression.

The contrast between the beautiful, well-kept grounds and the outdated interior couldn’t be more striking. The lobby is a cluttered mix of worn sofas, coffee tables, a heavy bookcase, and a table awkwardly placed right in front of the main doors. Wall-to-wall carpeting throughout could use a deep cleaning. Our room was spacious but lacked charm, furnished with a sagging sofa, a glass-covered wooden coffee table, old wooden bureaus, and curtains in faded floral prints that felt like relics of another era. The bathroom was clean but clearly dated, and a watermark stain on one of the upholstered chairs added to the overall tired feel.

There was a spider over my bed and ebs. The balcony chairs were griss. The entry smelled stale snd weird. The food was goid. Breakfasts great and grounds very pretty

Location close enough to the center, but secluded enough for quietness. AC machine was not able to keep up with the hot weather, ending up with 26C in the room during the stay.

Was very disappointed with the ability of the air conditioning system to keep the room cool. The room was never able to be cooled to a temperature below 25.5 deg C ( was mostly at 26 ) during a very hot spell in late June 2025, which made it unbearable for sleeping. The water pressure in the shower was also very low resulting in not much more than a dribble of water coming out of the shower head. So couldn't even get some relief from the warm room from a nice shower. Having breakfast included /available each morning was very nice and the menu options, food quality and servers were all very good. We had dinner in the Barleg Pub one evening and the food options, quality and servers there were also very good.

Everything was great - good location, clean and spacious room. Restaurant on site and breakfast was included. Our room had a balcony that looked out towards the millennium trail. Friendly staff. Would definitely stay there again!

This place is great if you want to go to the Sandbanks Park, it's very close. It also has a good restaurant and a pub. We enjoyed our suppers at the pub very much. Also Picton is just few minutes away by car. My only negative comment is about the quality of the mattresses - horrible. We had a queen bed and it had literally 2 holes, one for each person! I never saw it that bad, specially considering the price we paid. Hopefully the management will do something about it right away, we did mention it when checking out. Otherwise everything was great!

Obviously either short staff or disinterested staff, room was not made when we arrived,in the room, desk staff not very friendly. dining room service, patchy, although our waitress did try and was friendly. food passable but not that great, we had been before, but I doubt we will ever return.

All was lovely, until I asked for a one hour late departure, then a very sour unprofessional receptionist gave me an argument about only having two housekeepers. I pointed out that as they had been busy on Saturday night the housekeeper would not have time to get to my room in any event. I was grudgingly given the extension of my king room but with a look from the pit of nastiness. All other staff and housekeeper lovely and I left the housekeeper whom I met, a tip, and she wasn’t ready to do my room when I left at noon.

We booked a suite for 2 adults and 1 child however no bed provided for our child. When we asked front desk for assistance they were hostile and said we don't have any bed or cots available and did not apologize. When we kindly reminded them we booked for 3 ppl they said you booked with a third party so it's not our issue. Generally unhelpful staff. Also the next morning there were couple of small roaches in our bathroom which was quite disturbing.

I was not sure what to expect the reviews I read and almost cancelled. I am happy I didn't. Check in was lovely the clerk was so helpful. The room on the second floor was huge, clean with everything you could need. Yes it was dated yes the bed could use replacing however, the food in the restaurants, the proximity to everything and the friendliness of all the staff made it worth the stay!! I will be back again for certain.

Waring house is in a great location for access to PEC. Our room was wonderful with lots of space and a wonderful bed. A super stay.

Die Unterkunft liegt etwas außerhalb von Picton, zu den Sandbanks sind es ca 20 Minuten mit dem Auto, was absolut ok ist. Die Anlage verfügt über einen schönen Park, ein nettes Restaurant mit gutem Frühstück und einem Pub, in dem Abends verschiedene Künstler aufgetreten sind. Leider hat die Küche abends schon um 20:30 Uhr geschlossen. Unser Zimmer war gemütlich, allerdings roch es etwas unangenehm, was ggf. auf den Teppich, der schon viele Gäste gesehen hat, zurück zu führen ist. Es könnte aber auch an der veralteten Klimaanlage gelegen haben. Das Bett war sehr bequem und wir konnten gut schlafen. Das Waschbecken befand sich unter einer Schrägen, für Menschen, die größer sind als 1,85 m etwas schwierig 😉…für unsere Größe aber kein Problem. Das Frühstück und der Service waren gut, für jeden Gast wurde nach Wunsch eine warme Speise frisch zubereitet. Alles in allem können wir die Unterkunft empfehlen.

Great value, nice breakfast, close to everything.

The Waring House is a convenient location to everything in the County. The grounds are lovely and there is plenty of parking available. The included breakfast was good and a nice inclusion. However, the rooms are dated, the bathroom was a strange design with a small pre-fabricated shower in an otherwise large bathroom. The bathroom even had a large soaking tub. The shower specifically should be renovated. The hotel would have been better served to have a combination tub / shower to allow for more room. Anyone with a disability or required assistance would have difficulty with the bathroom. The dining staff at breakfast worked hard and were kind and friendly. Unfortunately, the kitchen did not order enough food to manage the number of guests staying at the hotel. They had run out of several staples (bread, cream, ham) even before we sat down at 9:30 am! I would come back to this property for the right price. But if you are expecting luxury, this is not the establishment for you. It is good for a few days stay and is close to Picton / Bloomfield and Wellington towns.

Staff were friendly and the Barley Mow Pub is charming but the place has seen better days. Breakfast was a fiasco as they lost both our order and also that of another couple. The tattooed staff were not well organized and seemed more interested in cracking jokes than providing proper service. Don’t order the corned beef hash.

The receptionist was friendly and check in and checkout went well. . The room was spacious and clean. I have to say though,that the food was disappointing considering it is a cooking school and was billed as fine dining.

The property is a little tired, staff were all pleasant and helpful. Good breakfast, but our dinner in the Amelia restaurant was expensive and poor quality. We had the chicken breast that must have been cooked earlier and it was super dried out with no seasoning whatsoever. The lamb was ok. They were all out of PEC wines which is ridiculous as that is why we were visiting the region. They need more attention to the dining experience

Room was very clean if a little worn itvhad a nice outdoor patio that unfortunately was inaccessible due to a broken doorway. The water is heavily chlorinated and tastes brackish. It would have been a nice gesture to have guests provided with at least one bottle of water. This is becoming the norm in hotels and motels these day. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. I booked this stay because there was a restaurant but I would not recommend the restaurant. The ‘warm bread’ was an ice cold dinner role that felt as though it had barely defrosted. The carrots were not cooked the kale and potatoes were also cold and the fish was cold and tasteless. The whole was a plates of unappealing bone dry lukewarm food. A shame because the salad and dessert were quite good.

Breakfast options were great, service was slow. Give yourself some time to enjoy the breakfast. Dinner at the Barley Room fell flat for us; food was underwhelming and we didn't feel welcomed when we arrived 15 minutes prior to kitchen closing at 8:30. Overall value is great, conveniently located to many restaurants and wineries.

Enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was included and was awesome with a full menu, not a buffet. Our server was excellent and very friendly. There were only 2 servers with 15-16 tables and yet they were super efficient. The TV in our room did not work the first night and the front desk did not return my call. It worked the next day before a service man arrived.

Our stay was great!! Staff was exceptional, we didn’t enjoy the fine dining at Amelia’s garden, but that’s just us, food at barley pub was delicious
