Metropole Katoomba

Like many 1930s mountains properties, the Metropole has much charm - stained glass windows, furniture in keeping. But a musty smell pervading. The old carpet? My bedroom was a good size (double), big enough to also fit a 2-seater lounge. The bed was good! All the built-ins were rough around the edges, the whole room needed a re-paint (flaking on the ceiling above the bed was a concern). A microwave would be a welcome addition. Good little fridge. The games room, library, reading room, all the lovely quiet little nooks and crannies would have elevated my review to very good...until the lift failed. I am 68 and was on the third floor. Worst of all was when I tried to get help with my luggage as I was leaving - no one available to answer my call. Nor anyone at the desk at 7:30 am. I was upset! That left me in a dangerous position. The shower was great once but not not twice. Second time it was cold. I waited & waited, then washed in less than lukewarm water. No hair conditioner left me with hair that took an inordinate, and painful, time to unknot. Overall, I liked the room but it was a real mixed bag.

I loved my stay here. Super close to everything including transport. The lady at the check in desk was so lovely and extremely helpful. Beautifully furnished library and games room. And the room itself was so nice. Highly recommended.

The external appearance is very dated. However inside it is charming. Lots of original features particularly in the library and games rooms upstairs. The inside courtyard area has a charm of its own. Our room was an internal room with no external air (windows opened into internal courtyard) and so we asked for a room with external windows which we could move to. Essential given the area was experiencing a heat wave! Breakfast excellent and plentiful.

Overnight stay suited us in a good location to shops and restaurants. Bathroom had steps which could be a problem for those with mobility issues but fine for us. Old lift was a bit problematic- slow and didn’t always register. Otherwise, an old hotel with lovely features like a library.

I liked the library, numerous cosy parlours, location & the lift (we stayed on the 3rd floor & it was a relief not having to carry the luggage). I did not like the room although my brother was allocated a far nice room. I detested the car park. It was a battle to get in & out & if you don't get a park prepare to park on Lurline St & walk a long distance. Would I stay here again...probably not....but happy to have stayed because our parents honeymooned at this location in the 50's

The place was clean and tidy. I booked 2 rooms about 3 months back and we were allocated on the ground and second floor, I asked if we could have adjacent rooms and was told that all the other rooms were booked inspite of the vacancy sign being displayed. The games room was leaking due to the rain.

Some advice notice on thr car park entry would of been good

The room was old and sad. Teapot dirty, carpet dirty, everything was dusty. The parking lot required a 4WD because it’s so steep. Bottomed out whenever exiting or entering. I have a dust allergy and couldn’t sleep either night. Avoid

A fabulous stay, Olde-Worlde charm abounds, from the plush sofas in the beautiful sunny lounges to the library and games room. Our room was quite modern and very comfortable, a 3rd floor room that stayed toasty and warm without turning on the heater even on the crisp autumn nights. The dining room has Breakfast options at a reasonable price, and it was convenient and plentiful, good quality food. The location was handy to the main street and other facilities. We were lucky enough to get a parking spot in the carpark but the signage could be better as the interior boom-gate is a bit confusing. Felt very safe here, would come again.

The staffs were friendly. The hotel stay was pleasant overall, but the linens on one of the beds had mold, so that bed couldn't be used. That was the only disappointment.

I was in a single room without any view or even much natural light - the bottom half of the window was frosted glass and the narrow window was in a position that you couldn’t see out from the bed and it was blocked when the door to the ensuite was open. The carpet was dirty and stained and really needs replacing and the ensuite needed renovation. The remote control for the TV was one of the dirtiest I’ve seen so that was wiped with disinfectant cloth before I used it. The bed was comfortable enough but a bit soft as I think it had multiple layers of under mattresses on it. Fridge in the room worked fine and kettle, tea, coffee, sugar and milk was provided. A nice touch was the bottle of cold water in the fridge. Staff were very pleasant and jokingly warned me about the slowness of the lift as I was on the third floor. This is a developed world problem though. Parking onsite was always available although limited in the evenings. Although not expensive, I could have had a better stay elsewhere in Katoomba. I know this as I’d come from somewhere far better that was $12 per night cheaper. The photos on the website do not show the truth of this particular room. Others may be better. I can’t comment on breakfast as I didn’t take it, but it is available.

I recently stayed at a hotel in Katoomba and had a wonderful experience. The renovated room was very clean, modern, and beautifully presented, making the stay comfortable and relaxing. The location is excellent – just a short walk from the train station and close to the bus stop, which made it very convenient to reach all the Blue Mountains attractions. The staff were very friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with any questions. Overall, it was a great stay, and I would happily recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Katoomba.

The room would have benefited from blackout curtains that covered the entire window as there were bright lights outside the window. Also, light bled around the door as there were gaps under and it did not fully align with the door frame. I would stay here again as it was in a great location.

Unfortunately all my pillows stank of stale sweat.

Very nice and tidy place. Only complaints would be the thin walls and the heater isnt very warm. I wouldnt recommended coming in the middle of winter if youre not used to the cold.

Great location, across the street from the train station, so easy to get to. There’s a lift available for heavy luggage, which was nice to not need to carry our bags up the stairs. The hotel was cute, the interior reminded us of the hotel in Gilmore Girls. There’s a library and games room available, but it was a bit hot and stuffy in there for us to use - would be really nice in the winter months, I’m sure. We were there for 1 night and didn’t have a great sleep - we heard a lot of noise coming from the courtyard/hallways/other rooms, and the bed was quite firm, so any movement would wake each other up. Staff was very friendly and provided a lot of recommendations for restaurants/cafes in the area.

I wouldn't stay here again due to poor maintenance of the central ac/heater and lack of hot water. The maintenance folks didn't fix the ac issue at all. Both rooms had ac issues. The shower water lacked hot water on multiple days during the morning and evening times. The bathroom window lacked a curtain to cover the window. I put a pillow to cover it for privacy. The receptionist helped me the most. She provided a different room after the ac issue that maintenance worker never fixed. She was very helpful.

This was my 2nd stay at Metropole and I was fortunate enough to nab one of the newly renovated rooms. It was beautifully styled and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. The check in staff member, Yolande, was so welcoming. It's a gorgeous, unassuming hotel with great rooms and facilities. I highly recommend The Metropole to anyone traveling to the Blue Mountains. I'm looking forward to my next stay!

The hotel is well positioned and rather quaint (old) The king bed was extremely comfortable. The hot water system needs an overhaul because the shower would go from cold to scalding without a moments notice. It's close to being dangerous

Rooms too small, hostel looking hotel

For what i paid this was very poor for the cost. Reception was only manned for a few hours and when not manned the front door was locked and you had to enter via the rear of the building through the car park. My room was very cold and so was the en suite and the air con was so feeble it made no difference. 9 degrees outside and no heating is a bad combination. I would never stay here again!

Everything you have come to expect from an older hotel. Staff is nice. Limited desk hours. Rooms were clean. Super close to train which made transportation easy!

it was very cozy and retro style. Quite comfortable, except the room faced the street so the lights made it hard to sleep. Needs better block out curtains so that the room is dark. The lounges upstairs are very quaint but they need a waiter serving sherry at 5 pm. Also room service would be good. The breakfast is not good, it's not freshly cooked and lacklustre. I had to go to Leura for breakfast after. Maybe these small touches could entice more guests. The reception is closed a lot. Seems very self serve. A dining room for dinner and a bar for drinks would be nice. The choice of food in the area is dismal at the moment. Never used to be

If you'll use public transport frequently, Metropole is located conveniently less than 5 min away from Katoomba station and the first/last bus stop to see The Three Sisters or visit the neighbouring Leura. Inside the hotel, I'm transported back in time where the only lift moves very slowly across 3 levels and requires manual door-opening. There are cosy nooks to cuddle up with a book or take their delicious Devonshire tea. The room is spacious tho the bathroom could be a little cold. Service is lovely but you'd need to do without it after 5pm, including keying in a code to let myself in.

Quaint property with helpful staff. Rooms and facilities were fine. There is no staff onsite after 5pm and unfortunately the night we stayed there was a water leak in the eaves which caused non- stop loud dripping all night which was like having water torture. This condition could not have been new as I inspected it from outside in the morning and could see this was existing issue they failed to repair.when you fail to be able to sleep it is hard to rate this any higher.

Really lovely place, right next to the train station! 1 min walk to bus that takes you to most hiking spots. Really lovely people work there! Overall a great experience! Would stay again!

Close to train station, walking distance for dining options

This hotel was in a great location. Directly across the streer from the Katoomba train station. There were many dining options within a short walking distance from the hotel. Our room was large and comfortable. We would recommend staying there for easy access, comfort, and friendly atmosphere.

This is a historic hotel nicely situated in Katoomba. Staff were super friendly and helpful. The hotel has good off-street car parking. The best thing about the Metropole was the cooked breakfast. The chef on Monday to Friday cooks to your order. Great food with great service. Overall, a good value for money stay.

Nice room and bathroom with Comfy bed(s). Friendly and courteous staff. Hotel ideal for rail travellers. On another note we prepaid breakfast with our booking; this was a mistake as much cheaper to buy on the day. Also plenty of choice for breakfast in ithe town. All in all good value.

Second visit to Metropole. The staff are lovely and the hotel is great value for money. I highly recommend the breakfast - best hotel breakfast I've ever had. The common areas are beautifully decorated. The rooms are a little basic but very clean & comfortable.

It was at Christmas, the hotel looked lovely. It is so charming with the stained glass and old furniture, the library and games (I mean cards, etc, not computers) room. I didn’t book a vegan breakfast but I talked to the lovely breakfast chef and she said they could arrange vegan breakfast and also dinners. I slept well, the shower, aircon, tv all worked well. Having a fridge was great. The bed covers and sheets were very comfortable. Being close to the train and the shops is great if you are using public transport. Thanks so much Hotel Metropole.

The building and inside are very beautiful, loved the old world style and feel my only suggestion would be to update the bed, you could feel the springs and it was very hard. The breakfast was amazing and the staff were lovely
