Check-in was smooth and efficient- The room was functional and served its purpose, although it showed a few signs that time and countless guests had not passed by completely unnoticed. The lobby, restaurant, and terrace were modern, stylish, and clearly received a significant share of the renovation budget. The pool area was also excellent for relaxation, although the rather milky appearance of the water added a touch of mystery to the swimming experience. Unfortunately, attention to detail appeared to be more of an optional extra. Ashtrays on the terrace seemed to be emptied whenever inspiration struck, and tables were cleared and cleaned with a similar level of spontaneity. The real highlight, however, came at check-out. Despite what one might consider a fairly standard request, the hotel was unable to provide a proper, tax- and company compliant invoice. What followed was an impressive demonstration of consistency: despite several follow-up emails, I am still waiting for a correct invoice four weeks later. This is genuinely disappointing, because for my colleagues and me, this hotel had all the ingredients to become our new preferred option whenever we are in the area. Sadly, the inability, or perhaps unwillingness, to resolve a basic invoicing issue has convinced us to look elsewhere in the future. What a pity. It is not often that a hotel manages to lose loyal repeat business over a piece of paper!
