East Bay Suites

We had a great stay at the East Bay Suites. Perfect location, right in downtown Grand Marais and on the water with lovely views of the lake. The rooms were large and comfortable with fantastic amenities. Everything worked great. Staff were friendly and helpful. Ample parking. Loved the lobby as well, and the fresh popcorn, hot chocolate, coffee and snacks were great. We will definitely be staying here again during our next trip to Grand Marais.

This place was beautiful! The community area had a lakeside view with a gas fireplace and new modern furnishings complete with refreshments. Our suite was on the third floor and we had a spectacular view. The bed and linens were clean and comfortable. We appreciated the full kitchen and grill downstairs that was available. They even had grilling utensils for us to use. We loved walking everywhere and hope to stay again when we visit Grand Marais. The fireplace in our room was the only disappointing feature as it’s just an electric facade.

My partner and I stayed in a 1-bedroom suite at East Bay Suites for a weekend getaway, and it was easily one of the best lodging experiences we've had in Minnesota. The suite was extremely clean, cozy, and well-equipped — full-size fridge, semi-full kitchen with a small oven, a comfy bed, fireplace, DVD player, and a balcony overlooking the charming mountain and town views of Grand Marais. Before arriving, I requested a romantic setup with rose petals arranged in a heart shape on the bed. Not only did they deliver on this request (for an additional fee), but it came out even better than I imagined — thoughtful touches like this made the entire stay feel special and unforgettable. The entire property exceeded my expectations — from the spotless room to the welcoming lobby, the stunning lakefront access just steps away, and even the easy, free parking. It was that perfect blend of a hotel experience with the warmth and comfort of home. The staff were beyond friendly and generous. They offered guests passes for swimming, crafts, s’mores, popcorn, bikes to ride, books, DVDs, and even painting activities. We felt truly welcomed and cared for the entire time. It is always a pleasure to stay at East Bay. It is alwalys neat and clean. Staff are wonderful. Beautiful views of Lake Superior, a nice stone beach, while also being within walking distance to shops and restaurants. A lot of extras such as popcorn, movies, games, fixings for s'mores are available to guests. Highly recommend!

Overall, a nice stay. You cannot beat the location and view. The renovations and leaking hallway roof were a bummer as well as the not-so comfortable pull down Murphy bed. However, the staff were friendly and helpful and the great balcony/patio views were great. Also, the proximity to everything in town is hard to beat.

Private beach area w/ fire pit I would have given it a 5 star, but we arrived after 8p, checked-in, rushed back out to get a quick meal because most restaurants closed around 8p, we found a few opened until 9p Went back to our room to wind down and relax and our door lock mechanism died, nothing worked, we called the after hour number and an assistant got their quickly and tried several keys nothing worked. Clothes and medicine was locked up for the night, within 45 minutes of trying to get access to our room, we were offered the room next door so we could at least shower and sleep, but our fresh clothes were unavailable until 8a the next morning when maintenance changed the batteries so we could get into our room. The general manager of the property should make sure there is a physical key on the property to take care of a situation like this, if we had health issues an had to take medications during the night and early morning, someone would have needed to call a locksmith If management would have offered a discount for our trouble, that would been the right thing to do, in my opinion. So that’s the reason they didn’t get a five this time I will go back again in the future, but I will remind them that this happened, so it is not repeated

Place was nice and clean. Thin walls, heard neighbors dogs baking every morning. Curtains didn’t cover the windows all the way. Overall a nice place in a great location but with some idiosyncrasies that were kind of obnoxious.

Needs severe updates, 12" tv, old dirty, way overpriced.

Returned to East Bay Suites in Grand Marais for another lovely stay. Clean, quiet, peaceful and full of comforting details beat describes this place.

The room tho compact had great amenities with two comfy chairs and fireplace. Great Lake views and close to many shopping opportunities and dining

We were in Grand Marais for the Fisherman's Picnic weekend which was a lot of fun. Our stay at East Bay Suites was for the most part good with one exception....our room did not have a working AC unit. They knew this when we checked in and they failed to tell us that. It is worth noting that it was over 90 degrees the day we checked in. Needless to say, our two nights were not very comfortable. When we told the staff about this issue (the AC unit also would kick on- even when it was off- which made one hell of a loud grinding noise which was particularly unpleasant in the middle of the night), they told us they knew about the issue and further, that the unit was unrepairable. To their credit, they did discount the room but not nearly enough to make up for not telling us about it in the first place. It was a bush-league move on their part and likely one they thought they could get away with because every hotel for miles was sold out. Unfortunately, it was blistering hot so it didn't work out so well. Otherwise, it is a nice place to stay but surprisingly light on some amenities- no ice machines except down in the lobby and you can't help yourself; staff has to get it for you. No breakfast or area to buy toiletries or other things you might want. On the flip side, you can get access to bikes, materials to build fires on the beach, DVDs, etc. so they do help you with some nice things like that. Also, a nice little kitchen if you want to cook for yourself

It was a little warm in our room. There’s an air conditioner in the living room. If I went there again I’d leave the window open. 3rd floor can get warm. Bed was a little hard but everything else was great. The location is wonderful. The views are amazing. I would recommend staying here.

We loved our 2 bedroom suite and its kitchen. The view was beautiful and the location amazing. We loved the popcorn available to guests and the movies and puzzles. The only drawback was that we were staying on the first floor and the guests above us sounded like they were stomping.

We really enjoyed our stay at East Bay Suites. Our condo room was very well appointed, we had everything we needed. The only (slight) downside is that the bed mattress, which must have been nearly brand new, was extremely firm. To a point where it was quite difficult to get comfortable in it. The first night was challenging, my wife nearly had to give up and go sleep on the sofa. By the second night we were getting accustomed to it, but still it was the most firm mattress we've ever experienced. The only other minor issue was that the two fire rings seemed to be very popular with the guests and with the breeze coming off the lake, it meant that we had to keep our unit's windows closed to avoid the smoke and use the AC instead. We would rather have been able to open the windows and enjoy the fresh air.

The building, room and grounds were lovely. All staff were friendly and helpful.

The property was beautiful and well maintained. There was not a lot of communication regarding the deposit on the stay. I don’t mind paying the deposit for the property upon making the reservation, but it was for an odd amount and it was not make clear when payment was expected- so I was surprised when it happened. I would prefer costs disclosed and explained a bit more up front, especially when many identical businesses have slightly different policies for this type of thing.

We have stayed at East Bay Suites many times through the years, and it is such a LOVELY spot - location, location, location - steps from the water. It is beautiful in every season. This time we enjoyed a 2-BR condo on the main floor (102), and it was great, as always. The staff were all friendly and helpful.

This property is located right on the shore of Lake Superior. While the location is wonderful the room we were given was terrible. The windows were so high we could only see out of them when standing and there was no place to sit in the room in comfort. We were told because we only reserved one night we received s substandard room, infact, they said it was the ONLY room like this at the property. We were never told they give preference to customers who reserve three or more nights. We were they during their low season, very few people at the property. We felt like we were treated in a poor fashion and will never stay at this property again, even though we are frequent visitors to Grand Marais. They should think about how they treat customers who may be passing through and want to revisit. We will tell many people about the terrible experience we had here.

We had a suite with a lake view. I loved sitting on the balcony enjoying Lake Superior. Having our own living area and kitchen was much appreciated. The place was quiet and peaceful. The hotel is placed right in Grand Marais within walking distance to shops and restaurants.

The location is wonderful. An easy walk to shops and restaurants. The view of the lake from the room was so calming. We had beautiful weather.

Our room was quite big, very cozy, with everything we needed. Beautiful view of Lake Superior...right out the back door to our room. This hotel is close to everything in town. You are steps away from restaurants, shopping, galleries, the marina, Artists point, etc.

Such a wonderful view of Lake Superior. Very convenient location to restaurants and nature. Walked the beach and drove the Gunflint Trail. All employees we talked to were wonderful!
