Time to retire this property and rebuild on the site. it is a very special location and could be quite attractive. The street-side presents a very pretty face, not supported by the inside.

We were looking for an inexpensive place to stay for one night on a road trip. We have stayed at this hotel before and know its a old hotel. You cannot beat the location. We made the reservation on Expedia.com and I think it was a surprise to the young lady at the front desk. I don't think she was aware of the new reservation even though it was in their system. Fortunate for for us they had a lakeside room available that she upgraded us to. The room was appropriate for the price but you cannot beat the view. Disappointed there wasn't any coffee available in the morning. We checked back 3 times and the same young lady kept talking with another young girl at the desk for over 1/2 hr and never made more coffee.

rooms were ok nothing special. staff was friendly for sure to a fault. breakfast was unusual with microwave in a totally diff room when needed to make oatmeal. butter for toast was old like it had melted & expired. parking was good right in front of front door but porch was not swept, flowerpots were not attractive, nothing but old dirt inside pots out side our window was a pain of a window broken on the ground & windows needed washing. my husband leaned on the fence along the deck, facing the water & the fence post fell over. it’s just a run down hotel. no tv in lounge area when in the hotel room book it said all sports were televised in the lounge area. we would have liked to watch the Twins baseball. it cost us over our cost in Duluth for our hotel that had a pool, restaurant & bar, with a lakeside view.

Front desk is not staffed 24 hours - we called ahead about a late check in and were told an envelope with our keys would be ready for us so we’d be able to get to our room as soon as we got in - when we got there (not too late, maybe 10 or 11pm) there was an envelope for us but it did not have our keys, just a note stating to dial a number on the white phone in the entryway to be let in to the building, we dialed it 5 times and no one came for us, I had to call the front desk in order for someone to finally hear it and let us in, the room was fine but I wouldn’t say it was worth what we paid for it
