We had a lovely stay here. We stayed at both historic hotels in Durango and this was our favorite front. Staff was excellent very kind. Very chatty treat on a great conversation. They have the oldest operating elevator in the state of Colorado. It’s small, but it’s worth the experience of the ride. Don’t forget to go out on TV. Second floor balcony deck. It’s over the west part of Durango and the trains coming and going.

We loved the hotel and location, however, we are seniors and getting our bags upstairs was difficult. We were in the rear building. We would stay again but make sure there was an elevator for us to take bags up and down.

We really enjoyed staying at the hotel. It was super convenient for the train. Parking was easy. We wanted a larger room, so we were in the hotel across the parking lot. It wasn't really very inconvenient, but no lift, so you need to be able to do stairs with luggage (or use a porter).Linens were nice and sufficient. Bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was fairly basic, but sufficient. I would stay there again for ambience and convenience!

Parking is safe and easy. Breakfast was hot and delicious. The room was above and beyond we expected. The room had Instant hot water in sinks and shower, windows that open, easy to use heater / a/c, very comfy bed, excellent location, and this hotel has very knowledgeable and friendly staff. This hotel is Durango history at its finest!!

Convenient location in the heart of the old town area, rooms are clean and staff is very helpful. The hotel sports the oldest elevator in Colorado and it is small, so you may have to make a few trips to get all your luggage sorted out. Wheelchairs would be a challenge to fit. We loved the open deck on the top of the second floor where you could sit in leisure and watch the steam trains come and go.

The air conditioner was broke and they could not move us to another room. The price includes a hot breakfast but when we arrived for breakfast they were totally out of all food. The Durango - Silverton train is right beside the hotel and was incredibly loud and frequent. They did take $100 off our stay but we would have preferred to have gotten what we signed up for after a long day of driving. The outdoor furniture available to sit in was broke and filthy. Never again at this hotel.

Excellent old historic hotel, right in the middle of downtown Durango. Easy walk to the train depot. Close to everything. Hotel was very clean, staff was friendly and breakfast was great. Really liked the extra touch of the cookies in the afternoon. Great place to stay when in Durango.

The General Palmer is right next door to the Durango Silverton Railroad so it is perfect for anyone planning to ride the train early in the morning. It is also a good way to immerse yourself in the past before getting on an old railroad. The beds and linens are very comfortable and the hot water for my shower was instant and plentiful. There is no desk in the room where you could plug in your laptop and work though there is a flat screen tv, marble countertop at the sink and the clothes closet smelled of cedar wood. It is old style elegance. The elevator is tiny and has a retractable cage. It was the first elevator in Colorado. The staff is wonderful, very friendly and helpful. A special shout out to Chandler.

Our only complaint, and it's a small one, is the room size. Everything else, particularly the service, was fantastic. Great town with many restaurant and shopping choices. Hotel is a grand, old Western downtown hotel that is well preserved

Beautifully maintained 19th c hotel in the center of town. Loved having breakfast in the solarium! Our room was small in the building’s interior and didn’t have a window, which felt a little claustrophobic. It also had a stained glass panel above the door that was beautiful but let light in from the hallway all night. Super convenient parking.

This hotel was a lovely property and had all the Victorian esthetic and historic charm we had hoped for. Its central location made exploring Downtown Durango on foot easy. But it would have been nice to know that the trains at the station next door started running (and blowing their whistles every few minutes) at 7 am. No sleeping in at the General Palmer!

The room was charmingly beautiful. Staff was friendly and helpful. We have never had such a comfortable bed, we didn't want to leave. We wanted something quaint and historical, it exceeded our expectations. But if you are looking for modern amenities like microwaves and refrigerators you won't find them. But there is water, coffee and tea on every floor with lovely balconies to sit and enjoy the scenery. We hope we can return soon.

This was a great hotel. We stayed here for two nights on our drive-through Colorado. The staff was really nice and very helpful at the front desk. It's right on Main Street so you can walk right out your front door and have access to all kinds of restaurants and shops. The room was extremely comfortable. Do note that if you want a room with windows, you may end up in a building across the street from the actual hotel, but that's OK. The lobby of the hotel has a very comfortable seating area, which they call the library Where one can have coffee, tea, and comfortably read or wait for your friends. A minor drawback is that there is no elevator in the detached building so you have to schlep your bags upstairs. It is also located immediately adjacent to the train depot so that can be a little noisy, although not at night.

Special thanks to a manager, Lucia, that resolved a room request issue between Expedia’s booking system and the hotel itself. We had a lovely corner room in the beautiful main hotel. It was perfect! HIGHLY recommend this hotel!

The Victorian features of the hotel were beautiful and have been mixed in nicely with modern touches. The Executive suite had ample room and was comfortable for our two night stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was nice to have the option of breakfast at the hotel, but there are tons of restaurants around for other meals. It was a great trip!

Wonderful stay at this beautiful, historic boutique hotel celebrating its 125th anniversary. The location is idea on Main Avenue and is steps away from the historic steam engine train that takes guests on a scenic ride through the stunning Colorado Mountains! The staff, rooms and location were all excellent!!!! Caleb, Kevin, Rhiannan and David helped make this 4 day get-away to Durango really special. They went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and special. A delightful homemade breakfast casserole, fruit and waffles was included as well as freshly baked chocolate chip cookies every afternoon!! We love the General Palmer Hotel and can't wait to return.

In Durango for a night to ride the train. Hotel very convenient to old downtown restaurants and shops. Hotel right next to the train station and as hotel guests, were allowed to park there. 5 minute walk to the Durango-Silverton train. Hotel very comfortable. Breakfast was very good. Staff very accommodating.

Older property built about 1900. Well preserved and updated, but still has the feel of the early 1900s. Close walk to many restaurants and tourist shops. Very close to the Silverton train depot. We enjoyed the train ride very much. Only negative was a bar across the street that played loud music. We were there on 4th of July weekend, so that may not be a regular event.

Beautiful hotel, very clean high quality linens and furniture. Sadly the complimentary breakfast does not match the quality of the establishment. Cold biscuits, overcooked dry and barely warm scrambled eggs, potatoes and bacon (only good thing). White sliced bread for toasting. Breakfast was of the quality of a motel. We walked out disappointed to get breakfast elsewhere. Highly recommend revamping your breakfast.

Front desk staff was excellent. No housekeeping during a four day stay unless requested. When I requested housekeeping, I got a pile of towels and the garbage emptied. No communication regarding separate building, second floor, no elevator. No breakfast one morning due to cook being ill, daily charge was refunded. Toilet required maintenance. Room heat functioned when it pleased. Not terrible in October but could be an issue in December! Wonderful for access to Durango-Silverton railway and historic Main Street.

The rooms are beautifully appointed to fit the time period. The king sized bed was very comfortable - we slept great. We had the continental breakfast twice, and enjoyed it both times. There are several dining options within walking distance for all budgets. We will definitely stay again!

This is a fun old-timey hotel right in the center of Durango- we liked it because it was Kitschy and fun. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and large, and the shower was fine. The breakfast was very basic-- like what you would get at a Holiday Inn Express. They did have coffee on each floor though, which was nice.
