Island Sun Inn & Suites - Historic Venice & Beach Getaway

The Blu Island Restaurant was excellent. The motel was dirty. Dust on the walls, side of the tub and on top of the lights. Smelled like urine around the toilet. The place is so old. The doors are brown from fingerprints and age. The inside of toilet, inside of tub and sink were clean at least. The pool was old and could not be used. No water in the pool, it was being worked on. Pretty awful.

Me and my family enjoyed our stay. The shower pressure was absolutely amazing. The rooms were spacious, clean and up to date. I didn't like the fact that the restaurant and pool closed extremely early. We did eat at the restaurant and the staff was absolutely amazing and so polite. Overall i woukd definitely book again and it was reasonably priced.

Rooms are clean- pool was under remodeling. Quite near many great places to visit.. older style hotel, is currently being remodel and upgrades.

Room was exceptionally clean. Only improvements would be thicker towels and softer pillows. Otherwise the bed was comfortable. Poole area was clean and pleasant. Front desk staff was efficient and very helpful...came to our room immediately to fix and issue with our TV. Adjacent restaurant was very busy (breakfast and lunch only) and food looked great. We did not have time to dine there.

Such a cute place! Very quiet, check in was quick and easy and the beds were comfortable! The middle pool area was nicely done and loved that it was right outside our patio doors! We will be back!

I booked this hotel thru expedia then went to check it out a day before. The health department had closed the pool down for unsanitary conditions. The owner was unfriendly and uncooperative. I called him later to say I wasn't going to stay and wanted a refund. He told me to contact Expedia. Expedia told me to contact him. Very unhappy with both but hopefully Expedia will make it right. I had trip insurance too.

Overall, this place is horrible. The pictures they have posted do not represent the reality. The place is outdated and after the first day of staying there we checked out. We saw two small roaches in the bathroom and one in the room near the bed. The man at the front desk said that they were willing to give us a new room and they were waiting for pest control to come. We do not want a room because most likely it’s gonna have the same roach problem in other rooms. The man at the front desk did not reimburse us or credit us the money we had paid upfront. I do not recommend people to stay in this place.

The room had a bad odor and the shower didn't drain.

all the chairs around the pool were broken and falling apart. The TV did not work. The chairs and tables outside were rusted and broken. The bathroom cabinet was all broken the back of the bathroom door with filthy dirty. The pillows were hard as a rock, and the bed was hard as a rock. it had a very horrible musty smell. in the bathroom, there was no place to put any of your belongings.

The location was perfect for what we needed, close to the beach. It was not very clean, floors were sticky, mold on ceiling by shower. Probably won’t stay again if in the area.

The cleanliness

Great price for such a clean, well kept motel! We were pleasantly surprised as we travel alot and usually stay at fancier hotels but I could not see the difference between this place and a Best Western Plus or Comfort Inn& Suites. Save some money and park outside your door!

Cockroaches! Cockroaches! Cockroaches! So, my own fault for not checking previous reviews but wouldn’t you think, if just one person complained that there were bugs, you would remedy the situation? Horrible. Disgusting. An infestation. We didn’t stay, go our money back and went to Best Western. For the cherry on top, before switching my first room to the second, the woman at the desk insisted on seeing the roaches in order to take pictures to send to the powers that be. When I walked into the second room and turned the lights on to see them scatter, I demanded my money back. Women can get her photos at any time. Hell, my daughter has a lovey video of the friendly buggers running around!

Very clean and pleasant. The room was very clean and you can tell upgrades are being done a little at a time. The courtyard is very nice with French doors on each room to access it. Staff we met were very friendly. Great location to everything.

Bed and pillows are hard. It was clean and that’s good! Seemed like the room had some flooding at one point.

Our room was spacious, with a comfortable king bed. The ceiling fan above the bed, was a nice extra touch.

It's not the Ritz, but it is comfortable. I asked for a quiet room and the hostess gave me a room that worked well. The couple running the motel: The woman is very pleasant, accommodating and smiling. Her husband... Well he could use a little polish. The place could use a little TLC, for instance the doors to the units are peeling and could use a paint job. Anyhow, the room was sufficiently large and mine looked out on a courtyard. All good.

For the price, its very good. Recently remodeled, a great bistro upfront, and very short walk to publix, or a small drive to the beach

The bed was really hard. These was a lot of people yelling most of the night. The people in the room next to us had a chihuahua barking most of the night and when I brought it to the attention of the front office staff I was told it’s was a service dog…. I’m sorry but true service dogs do not bark all night or react in the manner this dog was reacting.

We really like the location of the property being so close to Caspersen beach for shark teeth hunting. Property is really nice and price is reasonable. However, the walls are really thin where I can hear the neighbors speak and sneeze and they were not being loud. Overall I would definitely stay there again.

The style of this hotel is a little different. It looks inviting from the front and has a bistro/restaurant in front. You drive around and park in front of a basic door, at which point you might question whether this is a sketchy decision because it is just a brown wall with doors. However, the room looked newly remodeled. Both the bedroom and bathroom were nice and the bed was really comfortable. It has a refrigerator and microwave and airconditioner worked great. The rooms have doors that open to a courtyard where there is a nice pool and an area to grill or hang out - not lush but nice. Only negative other than initial impression of the outside was we were never able to get any ice--but maybe people are filling coolers. For the price and nearness to beaches( several within 5-15min.) we would stay here again

I love the location...walking distance to a Publix and a Sports Bar, across the street from a fabulous seafood restaurant (Schuck and Ale) and only a few miles from all the Venice area beaches. There really isn't anything I don't like about it. It's just a great place, very nice people running the hotel. The restaurant, Blu Island Bistro, is amazing. Ate there every day!!! Love Akki, the woman who runs the place!!!

Fine for a quick stay. Stay was friendly and attentive. TV in room was not working properly upon arrival and the Staff took care of it right away for me.

A bit of false advertising. Not only was an additional fee tacked on the bill when I arrived At check in, another $10 was tacked on because I had another guest. This gave Island Sun an advantage over the competition. I would not have stayed at Island Sun Inn had I known addition fees and the commensurate taxes beforehand. Cancellation not allowed . I could not park next to the door.

I checked in and the girl was very nice and accommodating. The I drove around to my room. When you drive up to your room and park outside of it you think, Oh not so nice. Then you walk into your lovely room. The room leads to a beautiful courtyard. All of the rooms are around the courtyard which has the pool. We had 5 rooms between us for a friend getaway. We had everything we needed. We had a fabulous time. We only left to go to the grocery store and to go to the beach. I was truly an unforgettable weekend. The staff was so friendly and kind. The restaurant was delicious. We will definitely be coming back.

Despite having a “Do Not Disturb” sign on my door, an employee thought it was okay to enter my room while I was in the bathroom. He did not apologize either.

The room was ok, the bathroom was terrible, the shower didn't have pressure and toilet was bounced. The AC outside was dripping water right in front the back door. The Lawn man was blowing around the pool in the middle of the day, making noise, spread all the debris around the pool while we are sitting there trying to rest, beside the smell gasoline. The manager/owner didn't care when we went to talk about these issues. Very rude people !

Didn't say anything about a deposit but when arrived theres 100 deposit staff worked with us although price went up too smh

I booked the room through Expedia, then once I arrived I was told there was an additional deposit of $100 needed to stay. I was caught extremely off guard since there was not any previous mention of the additional deposit throughout the booking process.

Great location, some of the towels had stains and the sink and toilet weren't exactly attached correctly, but otherwise was a great stay, will definitely be back, great price, right down the street fron the beach and downtown area overall great time

It is an older motel and a bit worn with age, but it is clean and great for someone looking to enjoy the beach and the fishing on a budget.

The location is FANTASTIC, two or three blocks from the little shoppes, maybe one mile from the beach. The attached breakfast place is phenomenal. Delicious food and great service! The property is an older one, and is under renovation. They (and the surrounding area) clearly had damage from last year's Hurricane Ian, and these sorts of things can't be magically fixed overnight. It would be wise to remember that this is an independently owned hotel, and they don't have the big-chain money behind them. They're doing every little bit they can, one piece at a time, as they go. The room was very clean, we saw no bugs at all, the flooring was all new, the bathroom had all new custom tile and new shower walls. Things are being updated, we saw new furnishings being delivered; the roof was being worked on, they ARE improving...give them a chance. We read every review on every platform we could find before booking, and went with our eyes open, but with a positive intent. If you stay here, intentionally to be fault-finding and snotty about it, you will find things to be snotty about. OR you can look for the cool little niche things that make give this property character. The pool, for example, is 8.5 ft deep! Cant find those anymore, can't even build those anymore...state law. The french doors opening into the shared garden patio area is a really cool throw back to simpler times. I enjoyed that. We had a lovely stay and a lovely vacation.

This is not a luxury hotel by any means, but the property/room was clean, and the staff were helpful and friendly. The Blu’ Island Bistro next door has phenomenal food, definitely check it out if you stay here.

Pleased with our room, enjoyed the center courtyard & the pool. Excellent cafe next door, breakfast was delicious, a real local favorite.

The motel is older but well taken care of and clean.For my husband and I it was close to the beach , historic downtown, and Publix.The restaurant that is attached is excellent!
