Le Chateau du Lac

The guesthouse appeared to be mostly empty and is managed from the hotel down the road. There is a grand old lounge and dining room downstairs which has a jug, microwave and coffee machine guests can use but not in use. If you want their continental breaky you go to the hotel down the road (we didn't need). There are no lifts which was fine for us but very creaky wooden floors. Several rooms including ours #3 face the verandah with windows opening to it which would be awful if there were smokers using it or guests sitting out there as it would be so noisy. It was noisy overnight even with we think 2 sets of other guests as they came and went at all hours of the night. The room and bathroom were spacious but as others have said even with the air con turned as low as possible the rooms are very hot and the bed, common to everywhere we have travelled here it seems, had a winter weight quilt. A fridge is provided but tea and coffee is only available downstairs. It is only a short stroll to town. For the very affordable price it was good value.

No coffee in the room, but beautiful comfortable, quiet. Coffee was downstairs. Better than average coffee. The room and beautiful historic place was amazing. 2 nights would have been nice just to enjoy the building and room 8!

This place is very old and just beautiful. Very rustic! The floors crack and it smells like you are at grandma's old house. The common areas are spacious and very well decorated. It's too bad that they don't offer meals because they have a beautiful dining room and all the facilities to do so! Even if it is a no reception property, the check-in went very well. The Chateau is very close to downtown and all the bars and restaurant. We went skating on the amazing icing trail all along the lake and we went there by foot. We were in the room with 2 beds because I was with my 2 adult daughters and the room was very nice.

Awesome stay. Loved the “ sauna” and ambience , lots of hot water ! Very convenient location. Walk to everywhere. Will definitely be back.

Pleasant older historic property. Coffee and tea available 24/7 in the cafe.

We liked how cozy and comfortable the place is. Its a tiny bit noisy when the traffic starts in the morning and you can hear the other rooms. If that doesn't bother you, its fantastic. We loved going down to the lounge for self serve coffee and used the toaster in the morning.

Excellent emplacement pour marcher le centre-ville. Stationnement gratuit sur place et fscile d'accès. De belles chambres, tres propres et confortable.

Quaint charming historic property, but no elevator to the third floor. Wastebasket in coffee area was overflowing, and out of cream for the coffee.

Très agréable. Un auberge où l’on se sent comme à la maison. Belle surprise de constater sur place qu’il y a un sauna et un jacuzzi sur la terrasse.

I arrived after front desk was closed, instructions that I was given were clear and accurate, no issues getting settled in. Comfy bed and clean bathroom.

L'hôtel semblait un charme lorsque nous avons réservé... Malheureusement à notre arrivée nous avons constaté que l'endroit était complètement négligé. L'environnement ressemblait en rien aux photos sur leur site. Nous avons en premier lieu trouvé des cheveux dans les draps du lit. Des pièces de la porte de la douche nous ont littéralement resté dans les mains. Enfin, le lendemain matin, nous nous sommes fait reveillé à 9h AM avec UNE FORTE musique de party. Aucun téléphone disponible dans la chambre pour appeler la réception. Impossible de dormir, nous sommes aller voir dans le lobby et avons constater que c'était le speaker de l'employé sur place. Nous avons attendu plusieurs instants et tenté de chercher dans les environs... AUCUNE présence d'employés. 1h plus tard, nous avons réussi à trouvé un employé pour notre check out. La personne ne parlait pas français et celle-ci ne semblait pas savoir comment procéder au check out. MAUVAISE EXPÉRIENCE. ÉVITER CET HÔTEL!!!

Room #6 – one queen and one double bed. Comfortable and clean beds. Great location near Magog’s marina and main shops. Friendly reception, though we experienced a minor issue with credit card payment through Expedia (quickly resolved). Areas needing improvement: dirty shower curtain, dusty and clogged bathroom fan, cobwebs on ceiling lights, faulty power outlet (CPAP machines didn’t work well). Strong damp odor in entrance area, yellowed curtains burned by heater. No creamer for coffee. We were short on towels, and found used ones behind the bathroom door. In summary: well located and comfortable, but overall cleanliness and attention to detail need work.

Très belle endroit et bien situé. J'avais quelques craintes par rapport au prix mais j'ai été agréablement surpris, l'endroit est très propre, service de café et il y a un endroit pour se rassembler. Je le vous recommande fortement. C'est un endroit à se rappeler pour nos prochaines escapades.

Belle petite escapade en famille au Château. Lieu facile d’accès. La chambre un peu plus petite qu’on s’attendait pour une famille de quatre. Néanmoins très beau lieu, tranquille et très propre. Proche de la rue principale avec beaucoup de commerces et restaurants.

Je n'ai jamais vu des chambres aussi peu insonorisé. C'était l'équivalent de dormir avec d'autres personnes dans ma chambre. Essayer de dormir était un véritable supplice.

I would like to give this place a better score, but 1 item ruined it for me. First what I liked, good amenities, nice staff, old charming style. If you like rustic, you will enjoy this place. Bear in mind the walls are not soundproof, that goes with old properties and should be expected. What I did not like, the room was prepaid for, when I arrived I was given my check-in form and it mentioned room #7, but I was given key to room 4. I was told about 3 times, it says 7, but you have room 4, which at the time I thought nothing of. What I realized is that there must have been someone in room 4 that complained and was given my room, so when I arrived I was given room 4, with the refrigerator from hell. It is nice to have a refrigerator in the room, I used it to store perishable items, but in the middle of the night I was awoken to what sounded like a dying animal, it was the fridge... I could not unplug it due to there being food in it, and there is no staff in the hotel at that hour. Note I was there for a 12km race Saturday and another 10KM the next day, so I needed my sleep, which I did not get. For the price, I would have expected better maintenance of the rooms. Everything else was a charm at this place.

The air conditioning in the room was super loud. It felt like we were sleeping besides a tractor. Impossible for staff to not know it, especially as we were in the middle of a heat wave. We did not complain because we were there for one night only but owners should definitely check for that. This was the main point driving our 2-star rating.

Charming Victorian style hotel very well-maintained. Great location in the heart of Magog. No apparent staff on site if you needed assistance. Had to walk a block away to their parent facility. No big deal.

We loved the old character of the building. Our host, Nicole, was extremely helpful and friendly.

Ous avions réservé la chambre royale pour 3 nuits. Nous avons reçu la chambre standard mais au prix de la chambre royale … nous avons témoigné de notre mécontentement mais nous avons eu comme réponse que Expédia font des erreurs et que cette chambre avait été loué avant que nous la réservions … expédia n’ayant pas fait la correction qu’elle n’était donc pas disponible… La Clim ne fonctionnait pas tout le temps … disons par intermittence Le distributeur de savon à main a décollé pendant notre absence … à notre retour une grande flaque de savon au pied du lavabo. On nous a donné des serviettes pour l’essuyer. Les employées parlaient très difficilement le français ( à part la proprio) donc difficile de se faire comprendre pour les désagrément vécus.

Nous avions réservé une chambre pour 3 personnes. Arrivées à l’hôtel, on nous donne les clefs d’une chambre pour 2 personnes. Quand je l’ai fait remarquer à la jeune réceptionniste, elle me répond qu’effectivement c’est une erreur de leur part. Explications un peu obscures sur le fait que cette chambre a été loué 2 fois par erreur et qu’ils n’ont pas d’autres chambres dispos. MAIS le propriétaire de l’hôtel a un autre hôtel juste à côté (qui semble plutôt vide et qui est bien moins joli que le château du Lac) et là ils ont une chambre pour 3 dispo. En fait je pense qu’ils font du surbooking au château du lac pour que le propriétaire puisse remplir son autre hôtel. Sur certains groupes de voyage, j’ai pu constater que je n’étais pas la seule à avoir rencontré ce problème.

I didn’t like the fact that they charged me twice. Correcting the their mistake is difficult as they avoid any calls on the issue. Service after the trip counts - mistakes can be made - but not returning calls is terrible.

Beautiful property but no one on site to assist with checking and entry. We had to phone and were told to come down the street to check in. They did apologize and said that someone should have called. Other than that a great stay.

There was no breakfast available there and the hot water ran out half way through the shower! Would not return!

We like that it's walkable to restaurants and shopping and a short drive to a few ski options.

Superbe cachet ancestral, cartable historique de la bâtisse disponible dans le lounge, je n’avais pas lu *** déjeuner continental basique payant pour les adultes dans un autre édifice***, parc à 3 minutes de marche, chambre propre. L’immeuble a tellement plus de potentiel que la façon dont il est actuellement géré. Reste qu'en terme d’hébergement ça fait la job. Mon enfant et moi avons passé un beau moment.

L’hôtel en tant que tel a un cachet remarquable, mais il est sous-exploité. La magnifique salle à dîner ne sert pas, les déjeuner étant servis dans un autre hôtel à bonne distance de marche – idem pour le check-in après 15 heures, ce qui est fâcheux pour les jeunes familles et les gens voyageant avec de lourdes valises. Ils nomment qu'il y a un déjeuner continental de 8h00 à 11h00. A 8h15, tout était fermé et rien. Offre du café, mais pas de lait ni crème. Très bruyant comme endroit.
