Another return visit, and I'd come back a third time without hesitation. If you're exploring Uxmal, the Ruta Puuc, or the broader region, The Pickled Onion is simply the right place to stay. The huts are rustic and charming — simple, colorful, and comfortable with AC and a fridge — exactly what you need after a day of archaeological sites. The pool is a genuine pleasure in the evenings, and the restaurant consistently surprises with inventive offerings that punch well above what you'd expect from a property of this size. The owners clearly want guests to make the most of the area. An introductory note at booking and a well-stocked room binder provide genuinely useful orientation — not boilerplate. One practical note: I messaged twice through Hotels.com and once via their contact form to arrange a guide in advance and received no response. Once on site, they were happy to help immediately. If pre-arrival logistics matter to you, plan to sort them on arrival or find another channel. A wonderful, characterful base for one of the Yucatan's most rewarding stretches of territory.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. In one accomodation the water did not work so the staff gave my sister and her partner another. However in that one the shower hardly provided any water. In our accomodation, the tap in the shower was dripping. There was water and adequate pressure. In both accomodations the small fridges were noisy so we shut them off. The rooms were not as shown on the photos. Instead the decor is shabby. The mosquito netting had holes. The pool was clean as were the loungers surrounding the pool. Two of the umbrellas in the Breakfast area had rods missing so also appeared shabby. The food in the restaurant for dinner was delicious and reasonably priced. The same can be said for the continental breakfast which came with the room..

The Pickled Onion is a real treat. It was the third time we stayed there and each time has been perfect. The property is absolutely beautiful. The pool and surrounding area is clean. The food is excellent, as is the service. The rooms are spacious, with a small refrigerator, air conditioning, ceiling fan and other amenities. The breakfast - served al fresco - is wonderful and included in the price of the room! The staff is helpful and attentive. Can't say enough about this place.

I don't have any complaints or issues. The grounds are gorgeous. The tropical ambience is truly the real thing. Swimming pool. Restaurant and bar on the grounds! Even massages are offered. The private cabins or huts are so charming and I slept like a baby. If you're high maintenance or 5 star you might check other options but for me. It's a win win staycation that I'm going to do often!
