Great food and beer was excellent! Location is very walkable to both Circular Quay and Darling harbour. However….there is no elevator! Our room was 3 flights up and no porter to assist. We would not stay there again for that reason.

One of our favourite places to stay in Sydney. Great vibe and very easy walk to hot spots. Only downside is they don’t have the free breakfast anymore.

Historic property which we really like - 3 floors up to the room (through the pub) was interesting - and expected, but a haul! Parking was street parking 8-6 pm and expensive feeding the meter, (but free after 6pm to 8 am and it seemed safe, especially since we kept some luggage in the car). They allowed a late check out (11 am) which was greatly appreciated. The room was functional.

Excellent brewery and location . Rm 301 was spotless spacious thanks to Stella.No lift however staff helped tote luggage up stairs and offered luggage storage. Bar food was tasty and a lively place to relax over beers with bottles and tap. Liked accommodation overall better than Hilton.and The Rocks over Darling Harbor for food and sightseeing.!

Wonderful, character-filled building, convenient to walk to waterfront and other parts of Sydney. Friendly staff and restaurant as part of pub had wonderful food (we hardly ever eat in hotel dining places but we went here twice as was so good. Great to stay in such a convenient position easy to walk to the station , opera house , harbour bridge, circular quay . Quite noisy because of all the building works being carried out. They started before 7.30 am ! Lots of places close by for breakfast. Hotel restaurant was great, only open on Wednesday-Sunday.

Very nice and helpful staff. Interesting place to stay as it is the oldest hotel in Sydney. Room was good size. Good location. Pub on ground floor is good. Front desk is not open during evenings or weekends. No elevator, so luggage has to be carried up and down 3 flights of stairs.

A stay with a small look back into history. The hotel is very popular with an energetic after work crowd. The rooms were nicely incorporated into the well preserved building and all facilities worked well. Parking is available in the streets surrounding the hotel and paid parking is nearby. Great location if you are headed to the the nearby theatres l.

Ok, the good first - Great a/c, very comfy bed and fabulous location and nice view from the window. Good food in the restaurant. The bad - carpet completely worn through between the bedroom and bathroom, carpet old and worn elsewhere, broken bathroom sink, and scuffed and chipped walls and skirting. Although the restaurant shows on its hours posting that it did breakfast, it has not in fact served breakfast since 2019. Most annoying thing - no fitted bed sheet, just a large sheet that was too small to tuck in, that hung over the bed that moved and shifted every time you did. Very annoying. How much does it cost to have a fitted sheet! Overall, disappointed. I doubt I would stay there again.

Beer and food were great, but it’s a shame the accommodations did not live up to the same standard. My husband woke up to a cockroach on his pillow after only two nights there which made it extremely difficult to enjoy the rest of our stay. It was difficult to communicate with staff on the day of the incident because office hours were closed during the weekend and by the time we made it back from tours during the week. Bar staff was too busy and not very friendly to even bother with either. We mentioned it upon check-out but there was very little sense for a sincere apology. Unfortunately, for this reason I could never recommend staying here but stop by for a beer or meal if you’re in the area.

While the property was charming, the rooms did not seem clean. The comforter was absolutely disgusting with visible stains. Street noises were loud. They were in a the middle of renovations so there was work debris all over the place and a very heavy paint smell. But worst of all, I would say the service was quite indifferent. Our friends left their jackets and neck pillows there and the staff was unable to find it and it didn’t not seem like much effort was made to track them down. Would not stay here again.

The hotel staff were really friendly and welcoming. Quickly brought towels to the room when we realised there wasnt any. The room was good, the carpets are well worn throughout the hotel and was thread bare in our room. My only negatives were the extremely loud vent outside the bathroom window kept me awake for most of the night along with the fridge in the room. Also the room had a sky light with no curtain so as soon as the sun came up we were woken up by the light.

The only reason this isn’t a 1-star is because the pub and location are great, and most of the staff are helpful and friendly. The room we were assigned was shabby and dated, not cleaned well throughout our stay, was very noisy—hand dryer from the public loo downstairs, flushes from the room upstairs, daily 3:00 AM rubbish collection, anytime some passed our room in the hall, and then the usual hotel/pub stay of noisy visitors but that’s kind of expected. What wasn’t expected were the cockroaches we saw in our bathroom a few times. When we brought this up to one of the staff and pointed out we were in a queen bed rather than the Premium King room we had booked, we were told that the bed was a king (it wasn’t, we measured) and that they would have the cleaners work on the “roommate” situation. They were unable to move us to a different room, and the accomadtion team just seemed

There was mould on the bathroom ceiling, badly worn carpet leading from the bathroom to the sleeping area, tiny tv, etc. it was fine for a night, but I can’t imagine staying any longer. Considerably overpriced for the quality. We were put in a “premium room” 304 which was substandard and not like the photos. The carpet was threadbare, there were no bedside lamps, the bedside tables were shipboard with the top just resting on the base by gravity and covered by a cloth. There was a skylight with no way to cover it, so you woke up at dawn, whether you liked it or not. There was also no breakfast facilities in the hotel. We were not expecting luxury but this was disappointing in the extreme considering the price of the room. On the bright side the building is full of character and the pub area is good, serving a nice pint, also the location is good as it is only 10mins walk to circular key.

The accomodation was very nice as were the staff. Unfortunately the only issue we had was the poor air conditioning which was way too hot for our liking which inevitably impacted our sleep and the satisfaction rating. If they managed to fix the issue I would definitely stay again.

My favourite place to stay in Sydney with that old time charm. It was good exercise climbing the 3 flights of stairs up to the room (no elevators) so maybe not suitable for the elderly or those needing accessible access, but otherwise great. As the oldest brewhouse hotel in Australia, their traditional beer style recipes have been developing since 1841, and the ales are all the finest quality. The chef is excellent producing some of the best pub grub anywhere as well as superb fine dining in the Brasserie. My only downside is that they could improve their wifi, so if you need the internet maybe fully top up max data on your cell phone plan.

Interesting little heritage place. Room was bigger and more modern than expected. Staff, especially in the pub weren't overly friendly and seemed much more comfortable with locals than tourists. Super close to the Ricks, Skytower etc. No elevator so beware if you have accessibility issues.

Great experience at a beautiful classic hotel that is well appointed. The staff was incredibly friendly and allowed us to store our luggage very early and even check in a little early so we can rest from our long flight.

Unique location in Sydney Everything important within walking distance. Metro only a few minutes away. Lovely hotel with restaurant and pub.

Love the location of the hotel. Easily walk-able to Circular Quay and the Barangaroo area. However with no working air conditioning, it was rather noisy leaving the windows open so it was difficult to sleep soundly. Be prepared to carry luggage up a couple flights of stairs however the staff was happy to help. A couple of times the room was missing toiletries and we need to ask. The bar/restaurant staff was happy to help however they were often very busy by the time the problem was discovered. Lastly, the coffee service in the room is a hot pot with instant however there was a nice selection of teas.

This was a very nice hotel. It’s in a historic building which was very nice and the location was excellent for walk ability. They do not have an elevator, but the staff will help you with your luggage. The pub has decent food too, however, no breakfast is served. Love the huge bathtub.

So charmingly unique to stay in a historical property like this. The service and bar atmosphere were great and the room was very nice. Only had the bean dip but it was AMAZING! Also, very good location for walking to the Opera house etc.
