Great hotel and great service. Awesome view and location. Free breakfast was painfully average but what do you expect for free. Exercise room was like a sauna. Nice whirpool and private beach access made up for it.

Indoor heated pool and spa plus nice outdoor pool. Clean elevator areas with luggage plenty of luggage trollies. Room was very clean. AC was new and very cold. Free breakfast. Nice private walkway to beach. Great value for family with kids. Easy parking and loading.

Love the easy parking & access to the beach. Very clean and accessible. The breakfast could use more health-conscious items, and the fitness center is a bit small with out-of-date equipment.

Included breakfast was very convenient. Breakfast area (both indoors and outdoors) was clean and well-maintained. Bedrooms were clean and well-maintained. Two suggestions - investigate the amount or water on the outside walkways coming from AC units and try and reduce the loud slamming of doors due to the door closers.

The room was fine, but we did not have the use of the amenities we paid for. The fitness center was closed for our entire stay, and the indoor hot tub was closed for half of it.

The staff was not very friendly. The standard unit we stayed on had an unpleasant odor. We could hear Neightbors’ conversations and snoring. The bathroom had used products it was not completely cleaned. The building overall seemed old and lacked maintenance. The showers outside coming back from the beach did not work properly, running of out water and very little water pressure to be able to rinse off.

Room was very clean and staff very friendly. Absolutely nothing to complain about.

As a very loyal and long time frequent customer, I will always recommend Shutters, the property is beautiful, the breakfast is always nice, the Tower rooms are wonderful, however, I am really disappointed in housekeeping services. I asked 3 times for my ocean front room to be cleaned, and it didn't get done until Friday, and I left Saturday. I had no trash bags, no coffee set up and when room was "cleaned" beds ( with no personal items on them) we not even tidied up. I love this place but I truly don't want to have to clean on vacation! My stuff was in drawers and closet mostly, it wasn't a wreck and I didn't feel like I got my money's worth. We will definitely be back, but I hope staffing etc gets back up to speed. Thank u for an otherwise lovely stay !

We stayed for 3 nights/4 days. Property location is great. Beach access very convenient. Breakfast was plenty. Rooms were spacious. Clean when we arrived. Then it went downhill. Housekeeping wasn’t efficient. Our room wasn’t cleaned even at end of day 2 until I called front desk. Disappointed

Very clean and comfortable.

Not good. We reserved a dunes view room and paid extra for it and we received a handicap accessible room with a view of the parking lot. We were told there were no other rooms available. We will not use this hotel again. We have in the past and loved it, but it has gone down hill and the room situation was so disappointing. The rooms were not cleaned every day either.

Clean rooms comfortable beds

The room was pretty clean some little things I noticed like the tub could you a major scrub, the doors on the inside were leaking rust and the handle had mold around it. The pool could use a good cleaning as well around the rim of the pool there was mold and algae. Besides the tub being stained the rest of our room was clean. I loved that they came in daily and refreshed our towels and beds. Beds were very comfortable. Staff was very nice. Breakfast served was good. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would come back again!

Property was ok but nothing like the pictures on their site . The room smelled like mold, and the shower curtains had mold on them. There were stains on their bedding , sofa and chair . The microwave was dusty inside and the fridge was not clean.

Shutters had everything we would want at a reasonable price. Great access to the beach, nice space in the room, the AC worked well, the bed was comfortable, plenty of parking. Things we would have liked in a room, but it fell short on - The bathroom sink area was very small, and right at the entrance of the room, The plantation shutters looked nice but the room was filled with light as soon as the sun came up.

Good location, excellent ocean front view, nice private balcony, friendly staff. Comfortable bed and nicely decorated. One downside is that the windows do not open which is a personal preference, I like to hear the ocean and feel the ocean air. The air conditioning unit was noisy both inside the room and on the balcony.

The bathroom was so small you could barely fit in to close the door.

This place is terrific. Great rooms, great service, great location. We had a room with balcony and ocean views and it was terrific. Great balcony. The beach access is easy and the two pools and hot tub are great to mix things up. Breakfast is not amazing but certainly good enough. Location is great. Few minor issues? Laundry room was lacking (only 1 set of machines and they are slow). The foot wash/ showers by the beach access had only a trickle of pressure. Pretty minor stuff. We had a blast here!

Good, not great. A little too pricey for not a lot of extra. Very noisy and could've used a little bit more upkeep. Front door had a huge gap that let light in all night. Ocean view rooms on the 3rd floor cannot see over the dunes - the water is visible, but the beach is not - 4th floor is presumably better. Breakfast was decent, but again, nothing special. Would've liked to have seen a little more upscale offerings for the price.

Great stay, nice that they clean every day and the breakfast is good. Location is amazing. Kids loved the indoor pool open till 10. Only criticism i have (and its minor) is that the fridge is small and the only mirror is in the bathroom.

Very nice location. We had a third floor room in the tower which had a private balcony with an ocean view. A short walk over the dune to a private beach. Room was very clean and comfortable. Morning breakfast was typical continental breakfast, nothing special but adequate. Everything was fresh with a few options. Plenty of parking and close to shopping and restaurants. Great view of an angry ocean with a storm off the coast.

Small rooms, but we made the best of it it with 2 adults and 2 teenagers

The place was nice however, the walls are super thin. Could hear the toilets flush and running shower water. If I stay again I’ll insist on the top floor.

When we checked in and out, both ladies working the front desk were very rude. I asked about a luggage carrier she looked at me like i was stupid and same yeah we dont have those here. When we carried all of our stuff into the building, there were a bunch of luggage carts by the elevator. The indoor pool was closed for maintenance but the website said it was open. We booked this hotel to be able to use the indoor pool for the kids. When we checked out, I asked for a printed receipt. The next rude front desk lady said unnn since you booked thru a third party they will have to give you the receipt. Almost like she was mad we booked thru hotels.com. My booking thru hotels.com said the hotel would provide the receipt. The rooms were also older than pictures looked. Front door would get stuck. Rust in shower, and the tv remote would barely work. I would not stay here again. I will say only postive were the custodial staff. They were very friendly and helpful.

I booked the room several weeks before our arrival, and received a phone call that they overbooked the junior suite that we intentionally booked to accommodate my mother-in-law with a wheelchair. Shutters overbooked the room for the first night that we were to be there, but did put us in a different Room for the first night and we had to relocate the second night and third night for our stay. While it was very inconvenient, they did what they could to make the situation correct with us.

The front staff young woman was horrible and had a nasty attitude when we checked in.

I arrived at Shutters and was greeted by the manager Stephanie. She is so friendly, kind and helpful. I made another reservation for the following two nights and everything went smooth. The rooms were clean and the location is great.

Decent breakfast was provided. Staff looked miserable any and every time we seen or spoke. Towels and wash clothes smelled like ash trays. Literally. The first night in the room , we got in the shower the shower pressure was terrible. The shampoo bottle adhesive had come off the shower wall so the bottle was kust hanging. For the money we paid - i wouldnt stay here again. Also - dust. I sneezed the entire time, every day and night that we were in our room.

This place is AMAZING !!!! Our room was spotless ! The breakfast buffet was very good and some of the best coffee I have ever had. Staff very friendly and helpful. Already planning our return visit.

My young sons and I stayed four nights. The Staff - in particular Stephanie at the desk and the young lady serving breakfast by the name of Kathy - made our stay memorable and special. Both were very helpful suggesting places to see, what not to miss and places to dine. They added to our stay immensley with their expertise and knowledge. Add in the heated pool, the clean and well appointed room, the beach access directly behind the hotel. If ever we return we will happily stay again at Shutters on the Banks.

First of all, they gave away my king room w/sofa and private balcony/patio. When I arrived, they didn't mention anything but gave me a key to a double queen room w/out a sofa or balcony/patio. When I told them of their mistake and showed proof of booking the king, they said sorry but we don't have any king rooms left nor did they have any ocean view queen rooms, so I could stick with what they gave me or cancel my booking. They offered no discount for the lower quality room and when I asked for a discount, the manager said she couldn't give me one and to talk to my 3rd party booker. I said I would keep the room as nothing else was available Labor Day weekend and I just drove 4 hrs. I called Expedia and they contacted the property manager who only then offered us a 10% discount (she should have already offered that). So, they obviously aren't interested in having a repeat customer with such horrible customer service when they were at fault and then tried to keep the price the same for a much lower quality room than what I booked. Other than that, we enjoyed everything else about the property. It is right on the beach, although most rooms are "dune view" but an easy walking path to the beach. The indoor and outdoor pools were both nice and we especially enjoyed the indoor hot tub. Breakfast was also very good. We even got to play cornnhole. The beds were comfortable and it was mostly quiet except for one night when a loud party was happening at a property next door.

The location is perfect. Very close to restaurants and the Wright Brothers Memorial.

Everyone was was very friendly but not the most handicapped friendly. We didn’t get a handicap room because we wanted to see the ocean. That means you have to pickup walker or wheelchair for the step to get into the elevator room . Going to the beach isn’t happening either . They tried with a wooden walk way then a mesh walk that you had to climb onto and was very steep doing down . The front staff as fabulous and the breakfast crew we’re awesome .

We stayed on the third floor of the tower and had a perfect view of the ocean and sunrise. The balcony shielded the wind somewhat. The location of Shutters is perfect for walking or short drives to restaurants. We could see the Kitty Hawk memorial from the parking lot side of the property.

Have stayed at many hotels in the 30 years we’ve been coming to OBX and this by far is the best place we have stayed at . Clean , courtesy , great location . Wonderful breakfast . Great pricing . Will definitely be staying again .

We stayed in an ocean view room, which was beautiful. The room was nice and the hotel was right on the beach. Breakfast was a quick continental breakfast, but still had bacon/sausage and eggs each morning. We used both the indoor and outdoor pool, which were small, but we enjoyed them. We enjoyed our stay here.

Excellent stay, reasonable/affordable price, clean, breakfast and cleaning staff on point, the only thing we have a complaint about is the beach shower… it must be on a timer, not possible to clean off sand on items along with feet in time before it shuts off for a few minutes. Not a deal breaker. Highly recommend and would stay again.

Very convenient location. The hotel is nice. The breakfast choices and quality of food can be better.

The property was a pleasant surprise. Our room was super clean and looked just like the pictures online, so no surprises there. The only items I suggest that could be improved upon are: first, the daily breakfast could have been better quality, although the breakfast was good and the coffee was excellent. Second, our room had high humidity and felt damp and wet, a dehumidifier in the room could have helped with that. And third, the bathroom was smaller than I was expecting. These items are just observations and in no way deal breakers on whether or not I would stay here again. In fact, we will definitely stay here again and will recommend it to others. I give the hotel a four star rating out of five. I was very pleased with my experience. Thank you for providing a good quality stay!
