The Stratford Hotel by Hoco Hotels Collection

There is a large parking lot right beside the hotel, and owned by the hotel, that was mostly empty, yet they charge $20/night for parking. Free parking is available just down the street so the convenience of their parking lot is not worth the additional charge. I feel offering free on site parking would show better customer service. On the positive side, they did leave a small gift and note in our room for my birthday which was very kind.

The location is good for the downtown restaurants. However the tiny European sized room is dated, but ok. Beds good. Tiny bathroom, but at least a tub. No front desk staff. You must call or text for any support. No lift to upper floor. Paying for parking makes sense as there is limited parking in town and most the theatres are beyond walking distance.

There is not any people/staff contact and you feel like you are alone in this 150 year old hotel. Doesn't feel safe with entry system. Had to check in at sister hotel then drive to Stratford Hotel. (I got a $20 parking ticket while checking in). No free parking at property. No ice. Very small, old room needs a little TLC.

There is absolutely no ramps for wheelchairs or strollers. No elevator either. So if you have a little one with a stroller or someone in a wheelchair, find another hotel.

This hotel is located ideally close to the Avon theater and all kinds of shops and restaurants. The drawbacks would be that we were on the second floor and could only take stairs. At our age, that was a little more challenging. Well, we may be on the older side of life. We do know how to operate television’s iPhone and various other pieces of technology. However, we did need assistance in how to operate the air conditioner as the remote was not working and we couldn’t see on the device where we had to operate it. And then we needed assistance with how to operate the television as it is not set up by default to broadcast any channels. You have to take it off its default setting and set it to Rogers. These sorts of things are best left with instructions if they are not intuitive.The complementary breakfast was minimal. Never received the code to get in so we were lucky a staff member arrived and she let us in. She also helped us up the stairs with our luggage. In leaving, we weren’t that fortunate. The room was small. One of those situations where I found myself digging clothes out from underneath other clothes because there really was no place to put anything. Overall, it wasn’t terrible by any means however if you’re used to a little more room, an elevator and a complementary breakfast that includes hot beverages, you might consider staying somewhere else.

This property is very dark and has been trimmed in a very rough and thrifty way. There is a huge set of stairs and no elevator so if you don't like climbing with luggage then this place may not be for you. It is slightly remininiscent of a boarding house- rooms are cramped. I was disappointed to have two dirty wash clothes fall on my head when I opened the shower curtain and there was thick dust under the bed. The pillows and linens were nice but the bed had a unlevel and uncomfortable mattress. The room did have good wifi, complimentary water and coffee, smart TV and a hairdryer which was nice. One good note, the lady who checked me in was very kind and helped me up the stairs with my luggage. She was no where in sight when I checked out! Parking was readily available with a lot of empty spots, but an extra 30 dollar charge so I parked 5 minutes away which was inconvenient.- about .4 km from the hotel door to my car door.. Generally, disappointing.

Mixed review. You have to understand the building was built in 1875 so not a chain hotel and not today’s standards for a room. It was a Clean room, bed was comfortable, lounge area and continental breakfast were good. Air conditioning from a very noisy window air conditioner. One staffer we met was friendly and helpful. On the downside- some of the towels were stained and they threatened you with a $50 charge if you took the shower gel etc. It was last renovated for sure 30 years ago. The bathroom we had was a corner tub only with a handshower - no standing shower. Awkward as we were there for a wedding. Understand up front that this boutique hotel is not manned and very pricey for what you get. You have to communicate by email only and they don’t indicate that cancellation is 7days beforehand! The parking needs to be paid in advance with the booking so you actually get a parking pass or else you have to park blocks away from the hotel.

Liked the old hotel but not a fan of pay parking for guests, no concierge, etc. Also the room was ridiculously small. Sink in bedroom area bc bathroom so tiny. Not what I thought I was getting based on the pics Expedia posted.

The parking is extra $20, and if you check in late like we did after seeing a play you have to go to another hotel in order to check in. It was close by mind you but still a little inconvenient. Room was nice and bed comfortable. We would stay here again now that we know their setup.

This is a fine place to stay, clean, convenient, and the breakfast was lovely. Seniors should consider that there is no elevator, and though the young man who checked us in offered to carry bags, the stairs are formidable without a bag.

This was a good choice in Stratford. Room and linens were clean and check in was smooth. Shampoo, etc. in shower were very nice.

Everything was clean and tidy and convenient. The only thing that needs attention is the A/C unit. Time for an upgrade to a Mini Split heater/air conditioning unit. This way the window is closed to keep the noise at a minimum from the street and the unit can quietly run above the fireplace. It heats and cools and keeps the room temp constant and is a lot more energy efficient. The old A/C is very loud and also allows the noise from outside into the room. The room has big swings in temperature so that was difficult to manage. Get that remedied and you've got a nice comfortable room!

The room was cute and delightful and incredibly clean. The extras (complimentary water and pop in the mini fridge, candy and trail mix in the lobby, etc) were all wonderful touches, as was that the room actually had a kettle for my morning tea! Add little things like the lovely balloons, cookies, and birthday note for my wife; the soft music playing in the room when we arrived, and it was just a great experience. We will 100% be staying here again!

The Stratford Hotel was very clean and cozy. The rooms are beautiful and have a nice European feel to them. Nespresso coffee makers in the room, a beautiful fireplace, and breakfast boxes each morning with fruit, muffin and croissant. I would definitely stay here again.

The room was super clean, quaint, had lots of character and was comfortable. There was a bit of a challenge turning the TV onto cable, but patience and a couple of calls to the front desk as the hotel that managed this one sorted things out. Would stay here again.

They didn’t have anyone in front desk. I had to wait 20 min outside under the rain. Room smell really bad

Impeccably clean and comfortable. Staff very welcoming and eager for us to enjoy our stay. From the outside it looks stern and a bit isolated but inside is cozy and warm. Relatively quiet considering the age of the hotel. We loved the atmoshere. We were only in the city overnight for a medical appt. and unable to explore much. We are encouraged to return just for fun. Being senior ladies, we dreaded the stairs while carrying a few bags but it was worth the effort. We recommend this hotel. Comparable to the Clock Tower Inn in Strathroy and the Kettle Creek Inn in Port Stanley. Downside: no dining or snacks available on-site so come prepared.

Great spot, but only complaint. Stupid ROKU, tv streaming service, only. No tv fir live sports or any regular channel. Having to sign in to watch anything was a reason for choosing somewhere else. Should have been listed in the adverising.

While the lobby is nice and inviting, our room was much smaller than the picture led us to believe. The building is old and the room lacked a true vintage look. Why keep a 400$ deposit for the stay? We were not going to leave with the half bottle of shampoo for $50$.

The place is beautiful. Only issue was the a/c...July is a hot month and the a/c should've been by the bed area and not the sitting area. Room wasn't cold enough, making it hard to sleep

Nice and quirky charm - gas fireplace in junior suite didn't turn on, and hard to get to bathroom around awkward pillars. but clean and nice breakfast.

Nice property, clean, close to theaters, good breakfast, and could walk to restaurants. Washroom in room is very small, coffee machine did not make good coffee and could use better pillows.

Bathroom was very very small. Rooms very small. Very nice breakfast. bathroom sink was not in the bathroom. Nice clean entrance wrea.

The room is really small and the building is old. Also the walls are thin and you can hear everything from every other guest.

NO STAFF. The hotel texts you a digital check in link which you’re meant to do before arrival. I missed it and was stuck outside a locked hotel in the rain. Thankfully a guest let me in while I called a number in an email to speak with a staff member at a sister property. Had to sit in an empty lobby and upload a pic of my ID so they could text me door codes and a room number. In the absence of staff, no idea whether room 7 was upstairs, downstairs or down the hall. Lugged bag upstairs (no elevator) and let myself into my room. SO HOT in there thanks to the gas fireplace pilot - fancy welcome chocolates were liquid, melted. Called again - someone came from their other property to try and fix it. Only choice was to counter heat with the AC on full. Not ideal. No tv in bedroom, no iron/ironing board. Ice bucket but no ice maker. Welcome drink is a can of soda or water bottle - they clearly state you only get ONE, once. Not welcoming. Without staff on site (was told they do not have any staff except housekeeping), there should be a clear guide in the room, no such luck. Location and pillows were good… but it will be hard to check in if you’re a foreign visitor without a Canadian cell number for the check in texts… Stay somewhere else unless you are far more patient than I am.

Hotel was not as expected. We were called from the hotel while we were in transit and asked when we were going to arrive. We told the caller that we would be there for 4pm. We arrived at 3:45 to find the door locked. The access to the hotel was difficult as we had to call to have the door opened and no one was there for almost an hour. After calling and leaving several messages no one ever responded and we had to bang on the door to finally get access. The room was old and sparse - the pictures from the website were misleading and the review of 9.4 out of 10 was inappropriate. The room was to have a courtyard view but actually faced directly onto the street and the noise from traffic and pedestrians was loud enough to keep us awake. The fireplace did not work and no effort was made to fix it. We had a toilet blockage but it took several hours to get a plunger. All services were done remotely from a different hotel property several blocks away.

The hotel is beautiful and well kept. The rooms are comfortable and clean and it's perfectly situated walking distance from anything you might need. The staff is excellent! Very helpful and nice. Wouldn't stay anywhere else!

Really friendly and helpful people! Shawn was super helpful in a pinch, as well as the wonderful concierge who got us settled. Very clean with a continental breakfast included. Also some non alcoholic drinks complimentary, as well as some treats. Room a bit small but totally adequate for a comfortable stay.

Had a pleasant stay however the checkin process was poor. Despite advising I would do in person checkin, I was not told this had to be done at a different location. Had this been shared ahead of time, it would have avoided some frustration and a walk to to the other location with our bags. Otherwise the location was convenient, the room clean and our stay was pleasant.

The staff were extremely helpful and responded to questions by text in minutes. Check in was on line or in person, details and directions were delivered by text. Rooms were small but well appointed and decorated. Many amenities were available as well. We would definitely go back!

Our stay was top-notch. Everything about this experience was positive. Avi our concierge was excellent, he was very helpful, especially in terms of accessibility and ensuring we could get around.

Have to check in at the different hotel a mile away. At check in, the clerk gave me a piece of paper with the entry codes. He put down the same code for the front door and the room and told me specifically, to use the same code for the 2 doors. Drove to our hotel and could not open the front door. Called the hotel and was told the front door and the room have different codes and she gave me the right code. Their staff needs to be better trained.

I opted for "virtual check-in" and was told I'd receive codes to open the front door and room door. Even after phoning the night before, no codes arrived. The front door WAS open when we arrived but no staff. Another couple said they'd been waiting 20 minutes. After waiting more than 20 minutes I snagged a chambermaid for assistance and she took us to our room. The next morning three other couples said they had the same experience of waiting a long time before someone appeared to offer help. If it wasn't for Terri (the chambermaid) I don't know what we would have done. The check-in experience definitely needs big improvement (and Terri deserves a big raise... she appears to be the only person on site).

Close to downtown, nice area

I tried to upgrade to a suite for 3 of our 4 nights. Neither the hotel nor Expedia could make that happen. That was a frustration. The online check-in was cumbersome. The location was very good as was the parking.

Great place. Very walkable. The only downside is it is close to a busy street so it’s a bit loud, but they do provide ear plugs.

Quaint hotel in an excellent location. Shops and restaurants within walking distance. Well kept property with all rooms being different. Check in was easy via email with door codes provided. Had a wonderful stay, highly recommend!

Step back in time - Victorian style. All the little things are there. Nice complimentary continental breakfast- on ‘China’ plates. Located steps to all the action.

A quaint boutique hotel in a great location with everything you could ever need on an overnight stay. The Continental Breakfast was plentiful, fresh and delicious. We shall be returning next season!

Great area close to the theatre, shops and restaurants.

Good spot, well located with comfortable rooms - but traffic noise on street side rooms is very heavy so be sure to book an inside room if this will be an issue.

Perfect little getaway to Stratford Hotel. Staff was very communicative and friendly. Room was clean and hotel was within walking distance of so many wonderful restaurants, theaters and cute little shops.

Room was clean and amenities were ok but was very noisy from fireplace and road. Also inconvenient not having someone at a front desk to interact with. No hot coffee with milk or cream at breakfast.

5 minute walk to Avon Theatre. Cute snacks in the lobby and a nice breakfast spread. Bathroom was tight quarters but not unexpected for an older property. Would stay here again!

Cute place... needs upgrades. Bed sagged in the middle and wasn't very comfortable. Fireplace wouldn't shut off completely, and kept the room uncomfortably warm when it was 22C outside, so we had to run the air conditioning which didn't feel very eco-friendly. Breakfast box is a muffin, stale croissant and a mandarin orange, which was disappointing, but there are tons of cafes down the street. Staff were responsive via text messages.

Our stay was wonderful. Rishita was so helpful throughout, ensuring we were comfortable. If you are expecting a glitzy hotel stay, I would say this is not it. It is very quaint and really showcases a vintage style. The only negative would be the breakfast. The breakfast selection was limited, and I was surprised at the lack of plates and cutlery.

My room was clean and comfortable. No restaurant but a continental breakfast buffet is offered downstairs in the morning. The staff were courteous and professional as well as being very friendly and helpful.

Quaint and comfortable. Upon arrival staff was most helpful. Continental Breakfast included fresh and local products.

Room has drinks in the fridge waiting for you. Nice lobby continental type breakfast to bring back to your room.
