The steps were a challenge with our suitcases But the proprietor was extremely happy, welcoming and friendly and wanted to speak good English to us. Very helpful indeed and carried our suitcases down the stairs when we left.

Andrea, der Chef, war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit und hat Tipps gegeben zum Essen und Wandern und Einkaufen. Es ist alles da, was man braucht. Nur gibt es kein Frühstück, da kann man in eine der umliegenden Bars gehen und dem morgendlichen Treiben im Ort zuschauen.

This was a great property for our trip. Understand it is not a full service hotel, but the caretaker/manager is extremely nice and helpful and the location is wonderful. It is a 10-15 minute walk from the train and there are numerous restaurants within 5 minutes or less. If you’re looking to stay in Cinque Terre I would recommend Monterosso above all of them. Much quieter and pleasant with amazing views. We hiked to all cities except Riomaggiore (due to weather along the hike) and would rate Monterosso above all others to stay. One downside is that there is an auto shop on the street level which was just above our window so in the mornings it would get loud. If you’re up and out early this is not a factor but the time difference had us sleeping to 9-10am during our stay. You will get maps and trip suggestions at check in and any questions you need answered Andrea will be happy to assist.

Such a fantastic stay. The hotel is very clean. There is also a clothes rack that hangs out the window which is nice if you want to use. The staff is super helpful. They gave info on Cinque Terre and also provide so many useful things for free; beach towel, there were beach umbrellas, charging cables. I didn’t realize when I booked that this was an eco-hotel, which meant we got discounted tickets for the train and hiking trails. Would definitely recommend to stay here. Good location too.

Andrea the host is very friendly and helpful. He helped us connect to Wifi right at check-in and showed us his files for information on dining, hiking, the train schedule. He even helped us get our hiking permits to use the trail to Vernassa which was harder than we expected since it was wet after the recent rains. So much to enjoy in Monterosso. Our room had a fridge and a tea kettle which was great. Bed was super comfy and Andrea made sure I had extra pillows that I requested in my reservation. I would recommend Albergo de Carugio 100%. Only consideration is you must climb some steps to get to the Albergo so if you are mobility limited, it might be a bit of a problem, but otherwise we were very happy here for our 3 night stay. Very easy walk to the train station.

We stayed July 13-16, 2025 and we were delighted with the service and friendliness of ALL the staff- they were like a second family. Andrea was very helpful, and accommodating and friendly. Let us have a choice of rooms, and made himself available at any hour. The room was nice, clean and big. The bathroom was also nice with the biggest and best shower of any place we stayed during our 2 weeks in Italy. Very easy to access from the parking garages, quiet, clean and comfortable for a wonderful experience. If I ever make it back to the Cinque Terre I will definitely stay at Albergo Al Carugio again.

Don't expect a lot of amenities, but do expect a clean, basic room where everything works as it should. The owner and proprietor, Andrea, is a delight! And the location at the farther end of via del Roma makes it quiet enough to sleep with the windows open.

Andrea is a wonderful host at this hotel. So friendly and knows the area very well. Our room was very clean, bed was comfortable, and it was quiet at night for a wonderful night of sleep. Easily the best value from our entire backpacking trip. Highly recommended!

The staff here were extremely kind and helpful, and even provide guests with some discounts for certain restaurants. We felt the value for the room was good, the room was tidy and well kept. The location is great as everything is in walking distance, but it is definitely a little further away than most of the other accomodations options. The biggest downside is that the hotel is above an automotive garage. As we were there during the work week it was incredibly loud early in the morning.

Andrea was a wonderful host! He was always available during my stay, gave me a warm welcome, and shared very helpful information about both the hotel and the town. He even accompanied me to my room. The room itself was excellent — very clean, quiet, and well-equipped with everything I needed. The location couldn’t be better: just a 2-minute walk to the beach, with shops and restaurants only steps away. I highly recommend this place!

Wow what a stay. Not sure why it’s classified as a 1 star. Andrea was an amazing host at this quaint little hotel. He goes out of his way to go through all details of the area and had recommendations for dining and things to do. The rooms are immaculately clean. I would highly recommend to anyone. Thank you for a great stay.

Clean rooms, good location to town, a bit noisy, owner did a magnificent job of creating an interactive handout of essential local information. It was very useful. Perfect if you plan to be out and just need a place to sleep but bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

Room had all you needed, fridge, kettle, comfy bed, washing line outside the window, which I didn't expect and really useful when you're interrailing for a month. Monterosso is fab, I will return and stay with Andrea again. Recommend 110%, even had a hug when we left after 3 nights.

Great location and super helpful host, Andrea. Andrea was very helpful with giving me all the necessary information and made my stay very comfortable. Very convenient location close to all the restaurants, trail hikes, and even a laundry , pharmacy and market! The only suggestion would be to blacken out a window which lets alot of street lighting in in the night. All in all, great value and comfortable!

A short walk from the Monterosso train station up Via Roma. The owner and host Andrea is absolutely eager to help us with anything with the stay. He even provided a PDF file with links to local eateries with discounts, hiking trails between the five towns etc. there is a laundry, grocery market and nice breakfast restaurant very close to the hotel. The room itself was just ok since we are in a small old town.

Owner and personnel is absolutely lovely! Very good recommendations- follow these to find good food. We did not at the start (partly because we are used to eating quite early) but learned the hard way. Room was nice, they cleaned it everyday which we really appreciated. Only minor complaint was that the fridge was quite loud at times during night alongside with some other sound we could not make out where it came from. Overall we were very happy and would recommend!

If I could give 'Staff and Service' more than 5 stars I would! Andrea went above and beyond to make sure I enjoyed my stay. It may not be the fanciest place in Monterosso, but you'll definitely feel at home. I plan to return!

The owner was extremely helpful and friendly with wonderful recommendations and map of the town. All staff were lovely always making the effort to greet us when coming and going from the property. Make sure you coordinate a check in time prior to arrival for a smooth check in and friendly greeting. Overall amazing experience would definitely stay again!

He even helped us get our hiking permits to use the trail to Vernassa which was harder than we expected since it was wet after the recent rains. So much to enjoy in Monterosso. Our room had a fridge and a tea kettle which was great. Bed was super comfy and Andrea made sure I had extra pillows that I requested in my reservation. I would recommend Albergo de Carugio 100%. Only consideration is you must climb some steps to get to the Albergo so if you are mobility limited, it might be a bit of a problem, but otherwise we were very happy here for our 3 night stay. Very easy walk to the train station.

The location is great as everything is in walking distance, but it is definitely a little further away than most of the other accomodations options. The biggest downside is that the hotel is above an automotive garage. As we were there during the work week it was incredibly loud early in the morning.

Andrea was a wonderful host! He was always available during my stay, gave me a warm welcome, and shared very helpful information about both the hotel and the town. He even accompanied me to my room. The room itself was excellent — very clean, quiet, and well-equipped with everything I needed. The location couldn’t be better: just a 2-minute walk to the beach, with shops and restaurants only steps away. I highly recommend this place!

This was a great property for our trip. Understand it is not a full service hotel, but the caretaker/manager is extremely nice and helpful and the location is wonderful. It is a 10-15 minute walk from the train and there are numerous restaurants within 5 minutes or less. If you’re looking to stay in Cinque Terre I would recommend Monterosso above all of them. Much quieter and pleasant with amazing views. We hiked to all cities except Riomaggiore (due to weather along the hike) and would rate Monterosso above all others to stay. One downside is that there is an auto shop on the street level which was just above our window so in the mornings it would get loud. If you’re up and out early this is not a factor but the time difference had us sleeping to 9-10am during our stay. You will get maps and trip suggestions at check in and any questions you need answered Andrea will be happy to assist.

The host, Andrea is exceptional. That on its own made staying at Carugio earn its worth. He communicated all necessary details in advance and leading up to our arrival, including how to access the building if arriving late (trains are always late!). He took every possible effort to ensure our visit to Cinque Terre was optimal, including advice about precise itineraries to visit the 5 towns. No need to plan and in fact I abandoned my own 2-day itinerary having done it 4 times already. Andrea's was not only a nice change for me it is in fact better since it took us into one of the towns to an excellent lunch spot we would never have discovered on our own. The room was perfect, shower quite spacious and all well constructed. Very comfortable. Although a little walk up the main road of the historical side of Monterosso, it was super quiet. This was just what we needed after noisy Rome. I've traveled all over Italy for several years and Andrea has made my list of top hosts. We will stay at Carugio again.

Excellent stay, Andrea goes above and beyond to welcome you. The info and PDF with links to local info, transport, places to eat etc., and directions to find him was great and really useful. Room had all you needed, fridge, kettle, comfy bed, washing line outside the window, which I didn't expect and really useful when you're interrailing for a month. Monterosso is fab, I will return and stay with Andrea again. Recommend 110%, even had a hug when we left after 3 nights.

We loved our stay at Albergo Al Carugio. Andrea was super friendly and welcoming. Gave us great recommendations on where to visit and eat in the area. Arranged a great dinner within walking distance of the property- one of the highlights of our trip. Hotel room was clean, comfortable and cool (AC works great). Within walking distance to all the highlights of Monterosso. They even provided us with beach towels and allowed us to leave our luggage before and after check out. Will definitely be recommending this property for family/friends for future travels!

Andrea, der Chef, war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit und hat Tipps gegeben zum Essen und Wandern und Einkaufen. Es ist alles da, was man braucht. Nur gibt es kein Frühstück, da kann man in eine der umliegenden Bars gehen und dem morgendlichen Treiben im Ort zuschauen.

Great location and super helpful host, Andrea. Andrea was very helpful with giving me all the necessary information and made my stay very comfortable. Very convenient location close to all the restaurants, trail hikes, and even a laundry , pharmacy and market! The only suggestion would be to blacken out a window which lets alot of street lighting in in the night. All in all, great value and comfortable!

The owner of the establishment met us at the bottom of the stairs and carried bags up. Check in was efficient and we quickly realized how genuinely kind the owner is. The rest of the staff were also very pleasant. You can’t beat the location, we loved it. Our only complaint would be the tire shop below who opens the garage door at 5:30 am and is loud. Walls are thin so if you book, use the ear plugs they give you.

Andrea was amazing and took such care to get us settled and get the best deal on our trek/train passes. The hotel is easy to walk to from the train and situated at the top of the main street- perfect location!
