YTI Garden Hotel

I’ve read some bad reviews for this hotel but having just stayed there I’ll say it’s a good hotel to stay in in Melbourne. But just go in knowing it’s 2.5 star hotel. Don’t pretend you’re paying $116 a night but expecting a 5 star experience. The rooms were clean, there’s a small fridge, basic cooking facility. A good shower, a toilet and beds. What more do you need when you’re on holiday and spending most of your time out. Excellent location, Hardware lane next door, Melbourne central 5 minutes away, Vic market a 15 minute walk. Good value I say.

Other guests have tended to take a “get what you pay for” approach. Of course there’s merit in that but it’s not a reason to downplay the poor condition of the property. All public areas are dirty and neglected. The elevator is filthy and shabby. All hallway walls badly scuffed by cleaners’ caddies. Like others, we had some faults that the owners are too lazy to repair, notably the bathroom extraction fan and a toilet that runs for several minutes after being flushed. There was no shelf for toiletries or even a towel rail. On the inside of the bathroom door, in addition to years of dust and grime on the vent, there was some sort of deposit, presumably of human origin, that had never been cleaned. The room had frosted windows so we had no idea what the weather was doing. It was, as others have mentioned, very noisy outside. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable, pillows tolerable. Kettle and toaster. Staff were pleasant. Wifi with no password required. Great location right in the heart of the city. But certainly no evidence of the “garden” in the name of the place.

Stay a week after business trip in Melbourne. Taking the price and location into consideration, I would say the place is reasonably comfortable. There room comes with a small kitchen which is a plus.

Location was good as it was in the middle of the CBD, however, the absence of parking was a major issue. The room was very old, the appliances were old. The room was not cleaned properly, found nail clippings on the floor when we first arrived. The property’s main door was left unlocked at all times, minimising security although signs indicate that doors will be locked after a certain time.

Good budget hotel right in the CBD with many bars and restaurants nearby. Small room but equiped with TV, mini fridge, kettle, and even microwave, comfortable bed, good water pressure in the shower. A bit dark during the day but perfect if you just need a place to sleep. Very polite staff, was able to check in before 3 pm.

This is an older place with a very small check in counter. The rooms are a decent size and the studio a good kitchenette. Just be careful with the toaster as the smoke detector is sensitive. I cooked once and it was good enough with the basic cookware, but there's no microwave. The bed is comfortable but the pillows are too soft. The bathroom is a good size. I noticed quite a bit of street noise. The location is super excellent. Easy to get to and you're in the middle of city with trams close to Elizabeth street. Overall value is excellent.

Central location. 2min walk from Bourke St Mall. Self contained with kitchenette. Comfy beds.

Handy location in the city, close to a lot of restaurants and shopping. Room was a bit dated, but comfortable nevertheless; good hot water system and water pressure. Has a kitchen, but only used toaster while we were there. Front desk staff are available at all times and very friendly. Good deal with local parking station with multiple entries and exits. Make sure you book through the hotel before parking to access the good deal.

I absolutely loved the place and the room. The staff were very friendly. The only difficult thing was to find a parking and it was very expensive overnight.

Thanks for not using strong smelling cleaning materials. Room was comfortable and clean.

Staff is friendly, but hotel is dirty, bagagelabels from from 7 months ago under the bed and loads of dust. , cracked windows, really bad wifi, You can get clean sheets for $30 a time, Fire escape is blocked by laundry trolleys and garbage in the emergency stairway. Not a hotel to recommend

Housekeeping consisted of dropping off clean towels in the room ( not hanging up but just putting in a pile on the bed or table). Sheets were changed once in a week. Floor was filthy and when I asked to clean them, it was not done. The unit is “tired” but that is no excuse for poor cleanliness. For example the floors were not clean. Good location but unfortunately it felt like they just don’t care. No safe.

Pro: lage Contra: schwarzer schimmel an decke beim fenster. Kakerlaken. Unsauber. Kühlschrank hat immer alles gefroren, da eisfach defekt.

Yes rooms are a bit run down but they are very clean with crisp white sheets and nice towels my room size was good, it was very quiet at night the location is perfect. The tv is old and it pixelates a lot so if that is important you may not like it. Overall its great value for what you pay but I wouldnt take my wife there, unless its just a place to sleep

We were very unhappy with our accommodation. The floors were really dirty (particularly behind doors - see images), the roof in the bathroom was mouldy and poorly lit, the shower floor was so grotty that we couldn't use it. The window faced the street (which was very noisy), was missing a blind so the light and noise could not be mitigated and it was really cold and damp. We paid for two nights and arrived late on Friday. We checked out on Saturday. We reported the conditions to the hotel and we reported that we were leaving due to the conditions. We were not offered any resolution, no offer to send housekeeping to rectify, no offer to return any of our money, the staff were very dismissive. We even approached the hotel after we returned to Tasmania to see if management had a different perspective and we received no response. We wasted our money, were forced to spend substantially more for another hotel at short notice on a Saturday in the Melbourne CBD as we had a family event to attend. We wasted countless hours trying to find alternative accommodation and moving between locations. It was the first time my husband and I had travelled without children in years and we had high hopes for a wonderful time. This experience ruined our holiday.

The location was convienient but bear in mind this is an older property so there isn’t much to keep the nightlife sounds from disturbing your sleep! The blinds don’t cover the full expanse of the windows either and no curtains, so the night lights and sun will stream through.

It's a great location a few door down from our favourite pizza haunt 39 and had a sharp rate. The room we stayed in (203) had one half of the window covered with a block out blind for morning light, but the other half was not covered so you got sunlight streaming in from the moment the sunrise, not ideal for a holiday weekend sleep in. Because the room looks directly out onto little bourke street and we stayed there on a saturday night there was noise coming in from (most likely drunk!) people on the street at various intervals between midnight and sunrise. If you are going to offer overnight accomodation in that location then would be nice to invest in some noise proof glass etc. if possible. Given we are both pretty deep sleepers and wanted to get away reasonably early neither the light or the noise was catastrophic for our stay, but a heads up for other guests.

Location is great, right in the middle of Melbourne CBD near Melb Central, Mall etc. Room was clean other than a giant hair ball I’d say accidentally left by housekeeping. Otherwise, clean and tidy. If you want a peaceful nights sleep, probably not the place for you as we had people partying in the street outside until 4am and the window are not sound proof. Also, the blind were broken so keeping the light out was challenging.

The bed was comfortable enough and the room was spacious for the price. The shower in my room only heated to lukewarm temperature, and the fall in the shower isn't steep enough to prevent water leaving the shower area. Hand soap dispenser was placed so that I had to reach across the toilet to access which isn't ideal. Noise in the hallway is very audible

When i checked in, there was nobody at the reception desk. I waited about 10 to 15 minutes, one guy came in and said he went to order food. During the check-in process, i asked him about possible late checkout at 12pm the next day as a gold member of Expedia, he said "no problem'. However, on the next day morning, the reception rang me before 11am and told me i have to check out before 11am, otherwise they will charge 50 dollars as fine. I explained to them about my gold membership with Expedia and the previous guy at reception said OK for late check out, but the new guy still insisted on his rule. There is no consistent service in this hotel and i will never come back to stay at this hotel in the future. The room and facilities are all very old and cannot be ranked as a hotel. I would not recommend other people to stay there as well.

The sheets were fresh and clean and fresh towels delivered each day. The place could definitely use an update but we were only there to sleep and shower as we went to Melbourne for a concert, to do sightseeing and shoppping. It’s very central which is why I chose it. The lady at reception was lovely and helpful. They even kept our luggage for us at reception after checkout so we could do some more shopping before we left for our flight. I would stay there again. Not for a romantic weekend but def for a quick weekend trip.

A good cheap hotel, perfect for the quick trip to Melbourne. Will stay again, quiet and central.

It is a place if you're just after a short stay in city, the facilities are a bit old but the room is clean. Air ventilation is not going well but still acceptable. The best thing is the location, just right in the heart of CBD. 2 mins walking to shopping mall, 3 mins to Chinatown. You don't have to worry about shopping and foods. You just need to worry about not enough budget to spend on.

Room 305 had everything I needed and was clean and comfortable. Extremely convenient location if you’re relying on public transport. Staff are available 24x7 and helpful. Anything you need just ask. Road traffic, helicopters, airplanes and heavy nearby construction at all hours and roudy drunks outdoors made sleep scarce.

reception was courteous, allowed us to check in before time, and offered an optional room better than booked. he explained any limitations at the time ( no room service), but welcomed us to call reception if we needed something. an unfussy nights stay for a decent price.. well done garden hotel.

Plenty entertainment & great dining situated only minutes away

We arrived early to drop our bags but were able to access our room upon arrival. Remember breakfast is later on the weekends, but we’ll get a breakfast box and coffee to take with us in the morning.
